Well, there are no words, super, amazing work👍
I couldn't agree more.
I have one of these I bought in St Andrew’s Scotland in 1966 . Still runs great.
Nnn
I have some words: "Roll on, my beauty."
This was a blast from the past! I never owned one, but a good friend from school did. He lived in a close, so traffic was minimal and we could play in the road. We never used the steering post, but fired it up - and nobody in the early 1970's got into a tizz about schoolkids playing about with matches or methylated spirits - and just let it go. Great fun!
If you lived in a 'close' you were slightly better off than average then, your friend probably had well to do parents, bet he got the number ten meccano set as well!, very happy days though, when the world was normal.
Great fun they indeed were. I too never owned the engine featured on the video here, but did have a stationary Mamod engine that I had hours of fun with.
In an attempt to make this engine "mobile", I fitted it out with wheels, steering linkage and a pulley drive system made from Meccano.
With an over filled meths burner creating huge flames that licked out from the sides of the burner box, the engine moved pretty well under its own power, but was well and truly defeated come the slightest incline.
@@keithpearson7539 - Yup. Good to see someone playing with such a potentially lethal toy in the correct manner. Enquiring minds, and all that. 👍👍👍😆😆😆
even extends to my generation (im 14), me grandad gave me his old mamod and its brilliant fun!
@@brianartilleryhmm how old are u now dude?
This shows just how good Mamod toys were when built originally.
Great restoration, a reminder of my happy childhood, we had some properly dangerous toys to play with back then, but it taught us respect for things that, if not handled correctly could bite you back!.
True… quite dangerous toys.., Always thrilling to light them up 😱😰😅
Steam engines, electrical, and chemistry sets from the 70s. All toys that taught children to respect fire and current.
Yup..........
Remember when it was perfectly normal for a 12 or 13 year old kid to carry a pocket knife ? .......... In school?
No one thought a thing of it.
@@jonduggan7433 still do, we sixties and seventies kids had our fights like everyone else but, we wouldn't even dream of taking our knife and sticking it in another person, it was unthinkable, scores were settled there and then with fists if required, of course what the government media and cops don't tell you is that knife crime isn't committed by 'us' if you know what i mean.
Yes, used to have a sheath knife on my snake belt on display!
It is sad to see that back then this thing used to be every little boy's dream, and now everyone just wants PS4, XBox, Iphones and Gaming PCs.
I can’t agree more 😕👍
Not me I still like 1980 - 1845 stuff
Back then it was the toy to have. Now a ps5 is the toy to have. The concept hasn't changed
Another fantastic restoration: I love watching your restoration work .
Thank you !! Glad you appreciated it 🙌
This could not have been an affordable toy for most kids (or adults) back then. Very nice restoration!
I found an advertisement for a later model(1969) it was $24.99, or about $250 USD in today's money
@@liveyourbestlife3785 Thank you for sharing!
The main thing I really love about your restorations ? Are they are real rust and patina . Not those 100 year old finds with that fake ass material that most others have on them .
Oh finally someone who knows !!! 😉 Thank you very much 🙏
Britain produced some great toys back in the day; Dinky, Meccano, Corgi, Matchbox, to mention a few and Mamod is one of them. Great restoration.
For sure !! Thank you very much 🙏
Великолепно сделано!!! Отлично! Браво. Снимаю шляпу... Побольше бы такого контента на фоне китайских "псевдо-реставраторов". Жму руку и желаю и дальше заниматься любимым делом и радовать нас!
Thank you very much 🙏 Glad you appreciated it 😌
Superb restoration ! Maybe use some wood alcohol (hydrat méthyle alcohol) instead of naphta, it will not smoke and avoid soothing ! Thanks for sharing !😊
Oh thanks for the tip !!! I was wondering why it was smokey… 😅 I hesitated… 😕
@@TheFabrik your welcome 😊
Yes, those burners were designed to use methylated spirits (which you got from the chemist in the UK after signing the poisons book). There was a later version which used a slightly different burner which took solid fuel tablets. @@TheFabrik
@@user-pf3ye6yi9ni have a bottle in stock :) I’ll try that 😌👍😊
As far as I remember the instructions said to remove the plug in the backhead (which should have 2 "handles" yours is missing one) and fill the boiler via the safety valve hole until water runs out of the other hole. There was a specified quantity of meths to use, this was to make sure that the fire ran out before the water did. Later versions had slightly more complex valve gear with a forward / reverse lever. @@TheFabrik
Very complicated restoration but very well executed. Congratulations!
I love the attention and extra work you put into sound recording and scene setup. Your videos are a work of art! As I said before, you're the Stanley Kubrick of Restoration Video Creators!
Wow thank you very much !
You have no idea how it helps !! 😌🙏
リアル蒸気機関シリーズはやっぱり良いなぁ!
Toys from a different age for sure. Beautiful restoration!!
I had one of these as a kid and I just loved it, if I remember right the fuel used was mentholated spirit. Sadly I have no idea what happened to it as I grew up. Great restoration.
Thank you ! My mistake 🙌 Zippo fuel was a bad choice 🥴
I had that model, back in the early 70s. I recall the only time I could play with it, was when dad was around. Pretty sure my mother still has it in her loft. Great work.
Glad to bring the memories back 😉🙌
Took me back to Christmas day 1965 unboxing my one. Best present ever. Thanks for bringing that little boys memories back to me. I might just get it out and fire it up again!!
Thank you ! Always touching to bring the memories back 😌🙏 I hope you’ll enjoy it still 😉
Absolutely beautiful.
Masterful work.......👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Nice job and awesome editing 👍
Thank you so much my friend 😌 I learn a lot watching you ;)
Great work and fine result. Your humor is much appreciated!
Thank you !! Glad you enjoyed 😌🙌
god i remember these as a kid !!!! they were soooooooooo expensive !!! i would have loved the car one but als never ever had the money !!! thats beautiful work right there !!!!
Thank you very much ! I think Mamod is still producing ans selling those steam toys 👍
Fantastic, i owned a few of these engines when i was a kid. Most were incomplete but all worked. A testiment to their ruggedness
Glad to bring the memories back 😉🙌
La rareté du jouet n'a d'égal que la qualité de la restauration, félicitations!
Merci beaucoup 😌🙏
Before it was a working model steamroller, now it is a display worthy.
Браво мастер, реставрация катка блестящая. Игрушка интересная. Спасибо за видео, лайк однозначно.
Thank you !!! 😌👍
I used to live by the Mamod factory, Thornes road Brierley hill, birmingham. All the kids had one,,great memories,, Great vid..
Oh wow you are lucky :) Someone told me it was a very small factory, family business…
@@TheFabrikI went to the factory back in 2018, it was great
What an amazing restoration 🎉❤
That was so satisfying to watch. I have a Mamod Traction engine that I was given for Xmas 1968. It still works and is in pretty good condition.
Thank you ! I hope you’re still enjoying it 😉
Congratulations on a beautiful job. I have this exact road roller. Mine is still in the original green and black but i may n÷d to change that. The brass & black is much prettier in my book.
Beautiful restoration, videography, and editing. Well done, sir.
I think toys from the past were more fun than today's. At least the ones you restore are super cool! 😎
Thank you very much !
Absolutely stunning results! It's so satisfying to watch.
I love hearing the sounds that the process of restoration makes. What a beautiful job you do on the toys.
Terrific work and what a cool little toy that could NEVER be sold to children today! Makes me miss the good old days when a kid could walk into a nickel and dime store and get a cap gun that shot off real little gunpowder caps or a dart board or a pressure pump water rocket or a chemistry set with real chemicals...glass test tubes and an alcohol lamp. When I was 10 years old, there used to be a mom and pop store in town called Green's where you could buy replacement chemicals, Estes rockets (the big "D" engines!), working steam engines and gasoline powered Cox piston engine airplanes and dragsters. Nobody got hurt, everyone was happy, nobody made pipe bombs from the innards of solid rocket motor cartridges etc...just good adventurous clean fun for curious kids! What happened to us? How did our society, in the name of keeping us safe, take all of the discovery, adventure and fun out of being a child? Electric motor planes...Velcro tipped darts and boards? No mini explosions...no smoke...no little piston engine noises etc...boring!
I can’t agree more with what you said. Thanks a lot for these words, always touching to bring the memories back 😌🙏 I have children and they really don’t care about those old toys 🤷♂️ so… we’re lost 🥴😅
I've read somewhere that each and every safety measure was applied after an accident, so your memories may be as well just a survivor bias.
I agree, though, that we became probably way too safe, but on the other hand - if you want this type of toy for your child and are able to learn them how to use it properly, you can still do it, buy it as a vintage or even make your own (and if you are unable to make it, the same rant may be used - because the previous generation was probably able to make such toys :D ).
Man I would have a hard time repeating one of those beautiful brass toys. I think they look very beautiful with just the Polish.👌
アンティークのオモチャは時代を超えても良いオモチャ。しかも、それを大人が、楽しんでる。
Not a restoration but a custom as you didnt repaint the boiler with the green paint.
I used to rebuild these SR's and the TE1 traction engines with the brass and black look. Done a few mods and even built a showmans traction engine after buying the parts direct from Mammod. Great steam engines to get running. I also converted one into a crane which I got the jib and made it work raising and lowering the hook with the flywheel. I love watching these mamod rebuilds. They are well worth keeping around.
Thanks a lot. Not easy to catch that exact green, heat resistant 😕
Fantastic restoration and vidio. Thanks so much. I had one when I was a kid and loved it. My kids loved it too, years later. I then sold it on to a swedish family. hope its still going!
Not only are your restorations relaxing to watch but I love the editing and the once and a while funny elements👍🏼🙌🏼
I'll give you 8/10, the wheel treads were lathe cut & never polished like you did on this restoration and also the boiler doesn't look right unpainted. Not bad on the rest of it as it brought back a load of memories of mine from Christmas 1976.
Glad to bring the memories back !! I couldn’t find the same green color, heat resistant 🤷♂️
I’ve got one with a roof and log trailer that I bought at a garage sale for $10. Couldn’t believe my luck! Still got it and I get it out now and then to show the grandkids but they either don’t have the patience to wait for it to get up to temp or they are afraid of it. Doesn’t matter - I love it.
They don't make toys like that anymore. Great job on restoring this old classic.👍👍
Thank you very much 🙏
Great job and great vid Changing the "mood" of the little pipe after polishing the steamtank is sooo funny ! 😂 😂
😅👍
Beautiful work and fantastic restoration. Personal preference but I think it loses something of its character without the olive green paint, looks less steam rollerish?? XD
I tried to catch that green color, heat resistant. I couldn’t find it 😕
@@TheFabrik aww that's a shame, I'm glad you tried to find it though!
Absolutely beautiful restoration.
That is so cool, and wow what a restoration job.
Fantastic job you did restoring the live steam road roller. It looks much better and it works like a charm too. Excellent work.
Brilliant restoration. Brings back many very happy memories of my childhood. Thank you.
I have a Mamod roller in a similar condition. Wish i had your ability to restore it. Fantastic.
You always have unique items to restore,
Deserves an Academy Award! 👍👍
Gorgeous restoration, I love that you decided on the polished brass instead of painting it again.
I tried to find the exact green, heat resistant. Doesn’t exist anymore 😕
Oggi questi piccoli capolavori del passato li chiamano STIRLING e su Amazon costano davvero tanti soldi, ma non sapevo che in realtà hanno origine ben più datata. Bravissimo
Thank you !! Mamod is still producing this model
WoooooW!!! Esos si eran JUGETES!!!! Que bien te quedó!!!!! Felicidades
your engine is a rarer nut and bolt version rather than the later more common riveted versions , it also has the early whistle and no regulator so a first edition and a very nice restoration
Yep exactly👍 Thank you very much !
Magnificent. Excellent job.
Well done! That's a lovely wee thing. It looks better now than when it left the factory.
I would have given my eye teeth for a Mamod steam engine when I was a kid.
Giving life to this beauty great work
I just cannot believe how nice this turned out. I can see a lot of work went into this but it looks like it just came from the toy shop! I always look forward to a restoration from you and this was great to watch. Thank you for sharing your efforts with us.
Thank you so much 🙏 Glad you appreciated it. It’s always a pleasure to share 🙌
On behalf of all mamod model owners, thank you for restoring this magnificent piece of machinery
Thank you ! 🙌
The ‘before’ had some charm as it looked like what a real steam roller might resemble. Dirty and covered with asphalt. But an amazing restoration anyway.
Thank you !!!
Дело мастера боится!!!
👍👍👍
I had the traction engine, was brilliant to fire jp the steam, u could get accessories for them, still have it in my loft😊
Phantastic Restauration
What a superb piece of restoration! Great care taken with every little piece and all done to perfection. A really professional job.
Thank you very much 🙌
Merci pour cette belle restauration. Et toujours la même émotion de voir ces vieux jouets fonctionner à nouveau. Beau travail comme d'habitude. Bravo
Bril! When kids were allowed to be kids. Great job!. Nice one, Nuff said. 🙂
Thanks a lot 🙌
Thanks so much for sharing 😊
Heron would be amazed at what his invention laid the basis for in today's world.
That's the coolest toy I've ever seen.
Just….brilliant!
Phenomenal restoration!
Why do we not have toys like this anymore!
Continue the great work
A beautifully made video. So subtle, almost hypnotising. I loved the curved tracking camera on the buffing sequence. The audio is exquisite. I have a very simple Mamod model, from childhood, which I just need to clean up a bit in order to sell on. This has inspired me. Thank you.
Thank you !! Glad to bring the memories back 😌🙏
Przepiękna jest ta zrobiona robota Świetne jest Pozytywka Unikat z tego Pozdrawiam serdecznie 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 🙏
‘Railways are no good… turn them into roads!’ Haha great restoration! 10/10!
😉👍 Thank you !!!
Back in my day when I was a kid, I loved big machines, so I wanted to be a train driver.
Half of my dream came true, I started driving tractors. A big machine that could turn left and right.
*Wow your restoration of this is amazing... First time ever to see a toy of this kind too 🙂.*
Bellissimo restauro! Bravo!
Awesome job loved the vid. Thank you
Love your work it's feels Premium when your watching
Absolutely amazing! Ingenuity, technique, imagination and improvisation are unmatched. This shows how good Mamod toys were when originally built. I also work as a repairman. but you guys did a great job. But the video editing is also absolutely excellent. - with some success - but nothing compares to the storytelling videos on this channel.
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it. It’s always a pleasure to share 😌🙌
Absolutely stunning and very satisfying to watch. Looked like that roller had been at the bottom of a canal! 😂. Pity you didn’t restore the whistle’s personality, I quite liked him.😊. Fabulous work. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thank you very much ! Glad you appreciated it 😉👍
Totally amazing. Fantastic restoration. Great job!!
My grandmother used to work for Mamod - at one time when I was young I had both this steamroller and the old fashioned looking car, as well as some of the small traction engine s
Oh wow I would have liked to visit the factory !
My Grandmother bought me a traction engine when I was 8 in 1972 I still have it and it still works I'm now 60 years old My grandson as the same model as you have just restored he`s 9 and he loves it.
Work of art mate
I have a major steam engine that my great grandfather got so i got it for freee
Wow! The golden age of toys!
Fantastic restoration, I’m sure it looks better now than it did when it was new 👌
Beautiful job i like thanks
Beautiful restoration. A very nice working model--which would not be allowed to be sold today--let's not teach kids to play with fire, eh? Too bad. Such toys are very educational under proper supervision--a commodity in short supply these days.
Supernice item. Great job and video❤
What a delightful toy that would have been when it was brand new, restored beautifully for us and future generations to enjoy. Bravo
Thank you very much ! 🙌
Nice trinket.
Beautiful! Terrific piece of work 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
A work of art. 🙏🏻
Man, that thing looks great, you always do a fantastic job!
