  • If you own Acura RDX and don't hear deep base sound from the OEM audio system, it might be the #anc Active Noice Cancelling feature that interferes with your audio system. In this video, I show you how to disable it through the Acura OEM audio head unit. In my own case, I can't hear the difference in audio sound quality between ANC ON and OFF. On other hand, it's good to know how to disable the ANC system in Acura RDX. By default, ANC will always be ON every time you start the engine. Therefor, you have nothing to lose by testing out this method to see if there is any difference in your own Acura RDX sound system. Best of luck!

How Does Active Noise Cancellation Work?
Active noise cancellation is an in-vehicle system that helps reduce unwanted background noise. Most systems use microphones to monitor sound levels and frequencies. A processor takes that information and generates a separate signal with an inverted phase. The car's speakers then play that distinct sound, which interacts with existing sounds and partially or wholly cancels them out. Without getting too deep into the science, the resulting sound is either inaudible or less audible to the human ear.
Though they use parts of the stereo, active noise cancellation systems work regardless of whether the audio system is on. They are particularly useful for canceling or reducing sounds produced by the engine, tires, wind, and road. However, they do not hinder the driver's ability to hear exterior sounds, such as a siren or car horn.

Will this work for a 2015 Acura MDX Nav? Mine has the dual screen interface

Does it work on your Acura MDX? Do you hear the difference between ANC enabled vs. disabled?

does turning this feature off also turn off the the fake engine noise fed through the speakers?

If you read official Acura document about this feature. It claims that ANC can reduce outside and engine noise up to ~10db if enabled. So it is ON all the time once you start your engine as I said in the video. When it's OFF, basically you don't have ANC feature enabled so whatever you hear is actuallywhat it is. In a sense, your speak does not have/produce the "fake" noise as you said. But I wouldnt say it's "fake" engine noise but rather opposite sound wave of surrounding engine noise.

@@lavithhcm ive been reading in various forums the ASC control system has both ANC and an engine noise soundtrack that is played through the speakers. frankly, i couldn't believe it when i first read it. in addition to the idea of fake noise being stupid in a gasoline powered car, it would seem to undermine any attempt at keeping the cabin quiet.

@@jeffborkowski to be honest, i can't detect any changes or differences with my own hearing ability whether ANC (active noise cancelling) ON or OFF as shown in the video. But some people online claim that their audio system sounds better when ANC is disabled. Thus, I make the video for you to decide on your own if you should enable or disable Acura ANC feature.

@@lavithhcm understood. separate issue though. the ANC is only part of the functionality of the ASC control box as I understand it. the other being a digital/fake engine noise which is AMPLIFIED by being played through the cars speaker/sounds system. which sounds crazy to me and beyond stupid. but is what ive read in numerous places. so my question was whether disabling it in the head unit as you show kills both.
