As active duty Navy, this confuses me. Officers make enough $$$ to have a 3-story apartment, but their dad is never there, which would lead me to believe he's enlisted. He can't be both at the same time?!
Marc Orcutt I don’t think it makes sense any way you put it I’m sure you know more about the subject than me but his story just isn’t consistent the only things we know for sure is that he was in a submarine he is a very important “colonel” which already is bad because navy doesn’t have colonel the equivalent is captain I believe it is then revealed directly he is in the air force which is another whoopsie because a submarine is just about as far away from anything sky related in the military he has kids and was married so he would have had a big housing budget along with his earnings I thought he could be nuke on the submarine which is a big paycheck but then he’s in the air force where I don’t think they have nuke officers (at least not the same kind) so if you dig deep the story is inconsistent and does not make sense any way you arrange it

Wait a minute, maybe the laugh track weirdness was intentional - in the start of the episode where Carly is not known yet, she only gets a weak audience response when coming in to the room. By the end she has thousands of fans as of her show starting properly and she gets a full audience response. Maybe they were trying to use the audience as part of the storytelling.

I was way more into Disney at this time, so post-Drake&Josh I didn't watch many Nick shows from this era. The times I did watch iCarly, it was hilarious! I think this network giving their writers more leeway to make those innuendo laced jokes and less "squeaky clean" humor that Disney had, really helped make the shows more appealing to different ages of teenagers.

Think about it. The dad is always gone, even when his navy buddies have returned. The time he does swing by is only for part of the episode, then he must leave fast, before the feds can identify him. There are hints thrown in throughout the show, including several reference to poppies (opium fields of Afghanistan). Its actually pretty dark. Especially when you find out that Spencer realized and was protecting his sister.

Yeah, but a military salary (even at the level of a general) is about 200k tops, so I don't know how he paid for it. (though things were cheaper in 2007, so maybe that's why).
Right, he only made ten times what my family made at the time. Too unrealistic. On a separate note, if they could pay for college to the point where Spencer got into law school (and presumably paid at least part of that tuition) then the apartment makes sense.

I've always loved how iCarly accurately predicted the randomness of internet humor, the constant yelling you'd find, and even some of the drama behind the scenes as other channels try to sabotage them or big corporations try to sell them out. Like I used to laugh at those episodes out of comedy and now I laugh at the uncomfortable truth and irony of it all.
