I would, but I don’t want to
Yep

"Purple Hair"
when her hair is the hottest pink I've ever seen LMAO
Ikr
I’ve always been bothered by that lol
Was looking through the comments to see if anyone else noticed 🙈
i replayed cuz i thought i've heard it wrong ;-;
so many people on youtube see purple when its pink, they need their eyes checked or fix the hue on their tvs lol. dragrace, super hero shows with pew pew energy effects they always say "i love her purple hair".........ITS PINK "the purple energy of her blasts are cool"........PINK! PINK! PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKK!
"with purple flames for hair"
*pink wig flowing in the wind*
DeYonte' Goodman
Yeah, that part never made sense to me. Out of the whole movie, the one part that little ol' me could not comprehend was the fact that Max called Lava Girl's hair purple when it was obviously hot pink. I never questioned anything except for that part of the movie when I was growing up.
What was wrong with past me?
@@longliveplanetawesome3223 its ok we all did that
It’s not a wig🤚 she actually died her hair for this role
Haylee Kurtz I was about to comment that
It’s is not a wing, the actress actually dyed her hair
This movie is like an actual fever dream, and to watch it as an adult is so different than growing up with it as a kid. And I'll tell you the one, biggest reason why we loved it. Texture. The texture in this movie, from the costumes to the horrible CGI stuff to the milk and cookies scene - everything just feels so satisfying like you can grab it. Plus most of us saw it theaters or at home with 3D glasses (because the DVD case came with them too lol) so that was pretty cool for the time :)
would you say that Mr. electric is an off brand MODOK?
Never knew this movie as a kid, but I can really imagine the satisfying feeling 😁 like, for a kid, it can give you the feeling of actually being able to escape in some kind of fantasy world lol
I remember that! And I remember we lost the 3d glasses, so we spent a very long time trying to figure out how to turn off the 3d settings in the main menu.
Wow. I think you are correct.
As a kid, I definitely focused on that. The lines in lavagirls suit. The way the cookies looked. I remember that.
Something about it definitely grabbed my child brain. Despite being one of the ugliest weirdest dumb movies ever made.
That actually is the main reason I loved it
It looked AMAZING back then
Except now it looks horrible XD
This movie is so special and charming because it was a faithful recreation of a real child's dream. It's not supposed to feel like a dream, it really is a dream, which lends it authenticity and makes it connect with children in a way no adult could really understand. And because the dream was that of the director's kid, this movie is a love letter from a parent to a child. Instead of adults trying to make a digestible mass marketable product based on what adults think kids like, this movie actually listened to what kids wanted. No movie better captures the wild imagination of children in such a way, and in that way it's an artistic accomplishment. Art in movies isn't about making the most easily to understand series of events possible, art in movies is capturing an expression.

Raging Robloxian plus the background and cgi looks like it would be really futuristic for the 1800’s
Could be metaphorical representation of max dealing with his trauma and dissociating. The tornado representing a panic attack and sharkboy and lava girl showing up to take him to planet drool is his mind checking out to save him
Maladaptive day dreaming
The reason this movie was so good as a child was because these types of movies were the fantasy all the kids had. You could really imagine this happening to you too when you were a kid. And because the writing was so childish, all the kids could understand it very well.
So strange that a boy raised by sharks grew up to be a werewolf.
He went from sharkboy to werewolf side chick
right.
Yup. And is now in kahoots with a weird vampire.

Omg-
This movie was written by a five year old. No joke, a five year old wrote the story and the dad wrote the script.
Wow.
That might just be the best thing I've ever read.
No wonder everyone loved this as kids, it was made by a kid
@@hanaomer4419 hell yeah
Makes sense
The only thing I remember from this movie is that sharkboy and Lavagirl represented his parents, because they " Hurt each other when they were close." Or something like that. I always read it as a form of coping for a generation of kids who's parents kept splitting.
I remember my 3,4,5 year old self being really confused and interested in this movie.

Honestly this movie is a cinematic masterpiece😅👌
I mean this movie was written by a kid xD so Im not surprised its cringe, Literally the directors 7 year old son drew these characters and told him about them and the dad made a movie out of it
EXACTLY
This movie is the definition of what kids see when they are playing an imagination game. Parents just watching their kids fight with “the force”
When I was 6 I had a crush on lava girl, that’s probably the only reason I liked this movie.
i did too but i did love the movie still lmao
I think most of us at that age all did. 5 year old me definitely did
I swear this movie was a five-year-old’s fever dream. No adult in their right mind could come up with this cluttered of a storyline.
''wow, what a fever dream o.O'' was my exact reaction after this video :D
Apparently the director’s 7 year old son made the idea for this movie😂
You actually aren’t too far off. It was Robert Rodriguez’s 7 year old son who wrote the bulk of the story.
@@phyliciat.8572 explains a lot...
When I watched this movie for the first time I actually thought it was a fever dream I had
This was a literal fever dream. Max hit his head on the desk during the tornado and he had a fever dream. It is the only explanation.
truee
@@michaelconticchio7505 No
the movie itself was a fever dream
He hit his head and never woke up, his imagination drifted to another planet where he revisits his past memories/dreams but when his body senses that he's still in the classroom, his dream recalibrated but faded back into absurdity
Either way it is the weirdest movie ever
One thing that I think was severally under-developed in this move was the minor subplot about Max's parents fighting & possibly getting a divorce. There are seeds for it planted throughout the movie, but it's not really a factor. The writers could've used it to explain why Max focused on his dreams so much that he eventually got as wrapped-up in them as he did & developed that subplot a bit more so it doesn't come across as tacked on.
I loved this movie as a kid… forgot it existed for like over 10 years and thought it was something I’ve only dreamt lmao. But apparently it’s real I’m- wow. Like this movie made my childhood.

As an adult it's definitely a strange trip of a film, but as a kid it made me truly appreciate the importance of dreams. I keep my own dream journal as part of my therapy, and it's really helpful for both recovery from the past and learning more about myself in the present. But I also had an irrational fear of George Lopez till I was 7 so yeah
This was, and I cannot express this enough, was my FAVORITE movie as a child.
I remember being in like first grade and getting too excited that it was going to be on Disney that night. Or how I tried to start my OWN dream journal, only to quit after like two days.
I never realized how awful the green screens and the CGI was
Most of it wasnt green screen
@Rat Casserole Right!
It's the same people who made Spy Kids, so of course the CGI will be awful.
That was a hallmark of a Robert Rodrigues movie for a time. Lots of effects with minimal budget.

so true!!!
Why is this so true
I don't know what made young you think they look like teenagers.
True
I used to LOVE Sharkboy and Lavagirl tbh tho
I was like- 3 or 4 and this movie was on like.. EVERYDAY. I was obsessed with it. It's probably concerning how long it's been on TV because it was still on a certain channel in around 2013.
The movie is a true exercise in Jung's concept of the collective unconscious, with the dreamworld interconnecting with the other students who were asleep and the running theme of dreams throughout it. That's not even counting how the movie transcended the concept and now lives in the collective unconscious of society itself, with seemingly everyone remembering it. Overall, there are a few deep notes here that may have been overlooked by the general problems of kids movies. The concept could certainly be interesting if applied in a different film.
What now?
The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl is the fever dream that Riverdale wishes it could be

I totally disagree with you in every possible way. This movie is not only a nostalgia for many of us, including me but also holds a dear place in my childhood memory, like your dreams can come true and there is an escape for a better place that you creat which is kinda like the whole entire theme concept of the sb & LG

Fuck yes. As a 2002 kid I’ve watched this dozens of times most recently crossed and making fun of the cgi, plot, and script.
As a kid I was a BIG dreamer and I loved this movie so much. Also it was in 3-D and I kept the glasses I got from the theater. They were still paper red, and blue glasses with lava girl and shark boy themed glasses I wanted shark boy ones. Alsoooo I got the DVD as a kid and they had a 3-D version too with their own pairs of glasses. I was obsessed. The whole nostalgia of it also the concept of dreams can become reality was a great concept for a kid. Especially one with an imagination like I had. Also spykids’ troublemaker animation in the beginning always gave me waves of excitement as a kid too 😂😅
When you’re a kid the movie feels like a dream come true-imaginary friends coming to life and a whole world you created. Sure, now it’s an acid trip . But as a kid this was like the coolest thing ever to me.

Idk. This was my first suitor's (we were in 5th grade) favorite movie and the exact reason I turned him down. Yes yes yes. And they didn't/don't play it on Disney channel enough, I screamed when they put it on Netflix.
I loved the movie
Same I loved it as a kid
Robert Rodriguez, the director of this film, was notorious for two things: Making films with really low budgets (So the CGI always looked crappy), and making movies for kids. Not pandering, formulaic stuff often seen in kids movies, but movies that felt like he understood what it was like to be a kid. This and Spy kids may seem really disjointed with weird dialogue and action and a confusing plot, but to a kid, it's the coolest shit in the world. That's why these films are so beloved.
He directed Alita battleangel I'd say he is doing pretty good nowadays. It still baffles me everytime I remember it xD

Because CGI of this quality was normal back then. We didn't know any better till Avatar came out. Mind you I think they were trying to do the whole 3D thing and that didn't help
I thought it fit the style of the video so i didnt question it
I didn't either. That's probably due to a combination of my naive childhood mindset of "Hey, a movie! You guys *must* have gone through a lot of effort to make a *movie*, so everything looks good!" and thinking that the CGI was supposed to fit the atmosphere (for lack of a better word) of the film. Now I'm looking at it and it's one of the most cursed things I've laid eyes on.
