In terms of thematics/lyrical content, a lot of what Immortal does isn't far off from what Wagner did; in terms of symphonic, early Abigail Williams would be right up there with the whole package; hell, even add some Cradle of Filth if you can stomach Dani's midget cocaine shrieking(I can, but know it's not for everyone). Åkerfeldt is another example of great writing, thematics, transition, and classical training made even more stark between Opeth and Bloodbath.

It's not like your comparing apples to apples. All of the pop musicians that you show have proven to be strong live performers just like the metal performers. Most of these metal performers are classically trained, which pop singers don't tend to have. It doesn't make them less then, it just gives them a different sound and that doesn't make them bad. I think we mostly have a difference of priorities. Metal is a genre which loves virtuosi. It loves to the most difficult singing lines, the most intricate guitar solos and that's truly what artists work towards. In pop I guess it's a lot more about the entire package, a song that many people will like, a good public image and a lot of spectacle around it. It's not about raw musical talent and years of training in pop, so that's why for me it's definitely no surprise that pop singers have no way of keeping up with metal singers

Male/female, black/white, it doesn't matter metal vocalists are usually going to win any contest w pop singers on most merits.
They have more power, they have to in order to be heard though their accompaniment. They have more control, as it's harder to really control your voice at their levels. And since so many seem to be attempting to mimic auto-tune w their own voices, they tend to have insane range as well.
It's like a tai-bo student sparring one of the Graceys...

  • @MarcosNaceli
    @MarcosNaceli Před 3 lety +11

    1) You can't compare because both styles aim for different purposes. Since both want to reach different kinds of publics, they aim for different details in voices, music (and performances).
    2) You can always find live performances that sound better/worse of any artist. e.g.: It's well known that Simone Simons doesn't hit some notes live sometimes and you can find that with a quick search. And please, don't tell me Tarja can sing low notes and sound "normal/good" because she simply can't, at least not since ~2005 (And I'm a fan don't attack me) it's not about what someone can or can't do. It's about much more. Do you enjoy their product? Good. That's all you need to do.
    3) Playback exists and pop singers are not the only ones who use it. I've seen Tony Kakko and Tarja live playbacking and screwing it up. Does it mean we should hate them? Answer that yourselves. Is it about being virtuous? Because we can make a video about opera/bel canto singers humilliating metal singers with their own perspective of "perfection".
In conclusion, enjoy what you listen to, let others enjoy what they listen to. And if you will, start listening to things other than metal, whatever it is. Try finding what you may consider "good artists". You may surprise yourself

Well, this video just says the OP is a metal fanboy. Music is music and there are different talents and different genres but art is art. You wouldn't put up artworks of Warhol and compare to Monet for example. If you're trying to shame great singers like Christina Aguilera, Adele, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande you're just showing how piss poor your understanding of music as an artform is. Grow up and put your big boy pants on ffs. If you limit yourself to a single genre you limit the whole experience. Don't listen to what this knob has to say. Open yourselves up to all the fantastic music that's out there and let your spirit soar.

This should really be titled Pop vs symphonic metal singers since most of the metal is in that genre. Which is not really a fair comparison since the genre uses classically trained singers most of the time. And only 1 extreme metal singer which you only showed her holding a yell. Try the same Arch Enemy singer with the 3 styles she uses in "Reason to Believe" instead of cutting her off. Clean vocals, metal vocals, and extreme metal vocals in 1 song. Mine ass well just compare Opera singers vs pop singers instead of this charade.

To compare her with Floor Is unfair and though it was tight. The Cindy Lauper tune was like a metal arrangement and I liked it too. Katie would make a decent metal Chantress. And Adele is without any thought a great singer too. I am a Metal Head and also a musician and as such one needs to appreciate different styles and genres if they were made by talented people.

Metallica (a metal band) is also "pop" due to their platinum status, talent, international fame, diversity of fans etc.
They might even be more pop than Brittany Spears... although they're popular for their contribution to the metal genre.

  • @luishenriquefossalussa6196

That's why heavy metal is so unpopular right now. Metal tards are just ridiculous comparing things. Ariana Grande is better than 99% of the metal vocalists - male or female, and in the clip she's singing a song that she's not used to. The most important: you're comparing apples to oranges - metal and pop require different vocal techniques. You won't hear Jessie J doing guttural as you won't hear Tarja doing melismas.

They sell more because they work with a whole marketing team that make them popular but yet they don't even own their music or image. They generally produce music that please the masses with two different lines on their lyrics but their content is empty only full of se*x dru*gs drama and abuse etc. They might have money but that says nothing about being successful. Pop artist are slaves of their ego and their management. See Britney spears for example I would not call her career successful when she even needs to do a lawsuit against her own father. As much as I ❤ the Tarjas of the world, it's unfair to compare them to the skills of others in their respective genres (ie Adele and Grande have superhuman ranges. Grande even did SNL where she impersonated most "pop singers" in this video like it was nothing).
Also, much of the symphonic power metal bands (w female vocals) often have predictable sounds/structure..(scared to try something outside their genre's "rebellious rules" so if one listens to Nightwish, they more or less have an idea of what to expect, while "pop singers" experiment with a myriad of genres and keep evolving/growing..
Looking back, I often see metal heads as somewhat close minded and will judge and bully you based on your taste. Where as pop aka "popular music" is full of risks, experiments, collaborations, moods, FUN and HUMILITY..
But behind the scenes, talent respects talent and I can imagine Brittany going out for lunch with Tarja while their fans stubbornly argue. Lady Gaga went to Juilliard so come on huh?
Anyway Maynard of Tool has the greatest voice in metal so...shrug lol
