This video was probably made to prove that metal singers are better singers than pop singers. But it all depends on how you look at it. It proved to me that all six singers are very good singers both with the whole instrumentation and acoustically. All do what they do best very well acoustically as well. So, if i had to give a score it would be metal 3 versus pop 3. I know that Simone and Floor have been classically trained and the pop singers maybe not, i do not know. Sharon is also self-taught. But I am sure all these singers will have their vocal coaches, etc. to ensure that they have the best possible voice all the time. Because if you do not have that, you won't hold out long in music. Do I like the metal singers more? Yes, because i like the musical style more than the pop style, not because one is a better singer than the other. Now Floor is arguably the best rock/pop singer in the world. Her versatility is next to none. So, as stated below a comparison with her is not really fair.

I think Ariana could perfectly Sing Nightwish Annete Olzon albums. Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera could,if they wish, jump into rock genre. Lara Fabian, Celine Dion( check her Song Taking Chances), Anastacia albums are in my collection with Dimmu Borgir or Therion. They are great singers!

Taylor gets my respest because she can sing and sounds better without the added effects to her voice. But the best part for me is that she is not afraid to play her guitar too. That just makes her even better in my opinion.

I agree 100%. The Pop-singers, fully concentrated to hit all notes. Sharon, Simone and Floor have a lot of fun and are perfectly singing like it would be just parenthetically. It seems to be without any effort but it is only pure perfection. And, only this time, Simone is the queen of singing and Floor only the runner up. One of the best flat shares in the history of music.

what i find most remarkable (and kinda sad) is that all 3 metal vocalists (floor jansen, simone simons and sharon den Adel) were all from the netherlands and here in the netherlands they are hardly known but are loved in the rest of the world lol

I don't see the point in these kinds of statements.
Of course Floor is one of the best from a technical standpoint, but someone like Tatiana Shmayluk has similarly impressive abilities but different ones.
Personally I like Sharon better, but that's because of the emotion in her voice. And so on, there is no objectively 'best singer'. Music is mostly a matter of personal taste on these levels.

This was a surprisingly fair video, most of the time videos like these are very anti-pop, but you actually picked really good pop singers instead of really bad ones. Obviously floor skews the curve so much that pop singers will never be able to compare, but kudos to you for giving them a chance!
Floor Jansen is life. Simone Simons is also Life. As such, Sancta Terra live is the source of all great thing within all the universe.
Just love Floor and Simone, they are the best female vocalists by far!

I really don't care what other people say about Floor and Simone. About Sharon, her voice doesn't do that much to me same like Tarja. Cristina Scabbia is awesome just like Amira Willighagen (young Dutch opera talent, she has a beautiful and pure voice!), Charlotte Wessels, Fabienne Erni and I love Lena Scissorhands too oh yes and Anneke and Dianne van Giersbergen.

I'm not sure what the point of the video is, we all know that Sharon and Simone are probably much better vocalists overall than the pop girls but this video showcases pretty decent performances from everyone. And comparing Floor to simple mortals is simply not fair even if she is singing a different song and recorded on a cell phone...
funny how all the studio effects for the metal songs probably have half the budget of the pop songs, but end up looking a thousand times more interesting.
I mean they're all great but I just love how metal always has so much more going on with it like the rapid drums and the aggressive guitar and just crazy powerful vocals even when they sing in falsetto it's just done so powerfully

No comparison, very true. I have to say though... they don't all sound the same. Those pop singers are some of the very few that actually have a voice you can recognise. In general, though, most pop singers do all sound the same - mostly due to autotune, I think. The main difference with vocalists is that being a metal singer actually requires talent.

You can see she does not have the right breathing technique to do this singing for a whole concert (watch her breath, raising the shoulders). She is pushing her voice too much and has a high risk of hurting her voice in the long run.
In Opera Floor does not even beat Tarja, let alone the AAA sopranos. She is classically trained but she lacks the projection and is more a chamber music singer. Yet she is an awesome singer, one of the best. For me I love Sharon. She is the less skilled of the 3 metal but the way she naturally colors her notes is what seduced me 20 years ago to her voice.

So the pop acoustic versions recorded in proper venues and the metal ones either in a studio building stairway or with a mobile phone :-D All of them sounded good though.
Man, adding Floor to any challenge makes it basically one-sided. I doubt there has ever been a greater vocalist than her. There are few who come sort of close, but no one is in her league. She isn't human, she simply is THE GODDESS.

I’m not a big fan of pop singers as I’m not a big fan of Nightwish anymore for that reason but I still respect them a lot. I like that Tarja adds pop techniques but you know she isn’t going full Ariana Grande on us lol.

I think Annette (where she isn't the best singer in comparison) has the better written albums.

Probably the biggest problem I have with pop music is the autotune. It's everywhere. The human voice isn't perfect, and if you try to make it perfect then it sounds wrong. Apparently many people like this though?
I think it sounds ridiculous too, I don't know why pop is so popular. Really, though... they use autotune because the majority of pop singers have no talent. The ones in this video do, granted, but the majority of them have no musical knowledge or talent so they could never go full-on clean vocals, no autotune like the metal singers do.
This was nice, the pop singers did a better job than I expected.
But you should probably update this, and replace Floor's part with How's the heart :)

Acoustic versions always show the true talent within a singer. It’s always raw and true and usually better than an auto tune/studio song. If you sing great acoustic, then you can truly sing.
Not too many vocalists can hang with Floor Jansen.
This is the first time I have ever seen Emppu with an acoustic. Every other time Nightwish uses one, either Marko or Troy is playing it.
That was way back in 2012 when Floor first joined the band and before she mastered all the songs.

I respectfully disagree. She is just a bog-standard growler and shouter. Which she does well. But not as amazing as the women from the melodic metal section.

They kinda have their own groove metal / opethy/ dark metal vibe that doesn't match up with one genre. I think it's why old rockers like me who avoid screams and growls of metal can get behind this band. I saw them 4 times in 2019. Lotsa folks of all ages there.
Sorry but growling despite being cool is not an example of exceptional vocal prowess. And she is Pretty mediocre when it comes to singing, small range and bland tone.

One word - vibrato. The metal singers have it, the pop "divas" don't. Maybe not that apparent in all the instances here and less clear due to the audio quality, but plain and simple. A highly skilled and and experienced vocalist has a well-controlled vibrato, someone who isn't doesn't.
If you want a vocalist battle, just simply show 2 version of Nemo performed y Floor Jansen, one in Wacken 2013, one in London 2012. No need to show more.

I find a comparison regarding skill a bit difficult when all sing different songs with different instrumentalization and arrangements. As you wrote all are outstanding women and artists. Most is a matter of taste.
Still, I have my preferences and more often find female metal vocalists underrated by most people. But hey, maybe they just don't like this type of music?
Anyway, I am happy to see Simone and especially Floor in your video. I personally adore Floor. She shows her great voice and singing in many different occasions and she has an awesome stage presence.
After watching this video, i can say that Pop and metal is like butterflies around valkyries
When i listen to FFM (Female Fronted Metal) vocalists, I got shivers down my spine. When i listen to pop stars, i feel nothing. Enough said.
I think all three pop singers sounded quite good without the studio tricks. Katy Perry impressed me the most because she seemed least likely to have it in her. That said, I still think Simone and (especially Floor) curb-stomped every one else here.

Wow! When it started the Floor’s, shit got to another level, really. All acoustic from the Pop side were nice though.
Worth noting that the metal valkyries all sing amazing duets and harmonies with each other via Ayreon and with guest appearances. This isn't as common with US popstars for commercial reasons. Duets are normally male female not female female.
You get alternating pieces like Lady Marmalade from Moulin Rouge. Not harmonies like Valley of the Queens.

Metal all the way!! It takes a lot of dedication and training to sing like they do and it shows! Just one little point, the second clip of Floor was taken in a small venue with poor quality audio,. There were so many better ones to chose from! Strange choice, especially when she is the best singer in the world!!

Also auto tune hasn't made as big a mark in Metal YET. I am sure some people will use it because pretty much every other genre of music gets merged in one of the plethora of metal sub-genres. Metal heads love to mix music genres... we simply like big drums and distorted guitars as well. :)

Sharons voice on Acoustic I am crying literally it's just so beautiful makes me so happy I tear pop never does that to me like ever even ones I really like for pop. Also, all pop songs designed for young people all really immature lyrics as well like how people can listen to it genuinely 30+ I have no idea. Once in a while they pump out actually something good bet never has strong replay value Metal songs I can listen to same song 3 times in a row no problem.
For Floor it should be Ghost Love Score (Live at Wacken) and acoustic How's The Heart (for Planet Rock).

Yeah people who don't like metal it's not just the singers as well it's everything it's the variety Metal artists pump out almost pop tracks to super emotional beautiful ballads. It's and endless rabbit hole of music it's also the community as well it's teh artists themselves are humble lovable people. It's the whole scene that attracts us to the community.

Autotune is pitch correction, not a fabrication of talent or hard work. It’s rather routine and I would think standard to use in studio recordings which is why the creator of this video used both versions of songs to compare their sounds. As stated in the beginning of the video, all of them are beautiful and talented in their own ways and are simply divided by their singing styles and genre they create songs for.
They all use autotune and other sound enchancements, both in studio and live, and is pretty much the industry standard right now.
Their all good singers in their own right. Pop singers tend to use head voice. The three symphonic metal singers are all operatic singers, they use their full range of voices, head, chest, open palette. And then there is Floor, even with her weakest song, she’s on a whole different level.
I do agree that all of these women are talented, but for me it’s Simone, her voice is angelic.

The big thing I notice with pop singers is they often have great voices... But the music isn't on the same level. The studio recordings are usually bloated with effects and backing tracks, and tend to feel rather artificial and derivative. I hear the latest hit, and feel like "wait, didn't I listen to this last year... or 10 years ago?" The melodies, chords, meter, themes, cadence, and general polish across many different songs feels homogenous. The singers HAVE the skill, but it feels kinda wasted.
