Prior to installation, we recommend taking your motorcycle to your local Rockford Fosgate Motorcycle audio dealer to "flash" the radio. The factory equalizer setup is designed for low-powered systems. Since we'll be using an external amplifier, the flash will reset the EQ to accommodate the higher-powered amplified system. Thank you for the video. I did step by step like in video to my 2020 SGS and had no issues, my only concern was I went to Harley to get flashed and they told me that I needed to get flashed after install. I went a head and did the install first even though I was concerned it wasn't flashed first, I took the fuse out of amp power cable because I figured that would prevent any problems when power came on. I took it back to Harley and got it flashed. It's crazy how crisp and clear the sound is, I highly recommend this setup.
Thanks for your feedback Brian! Many shops suggest flashing first, but as long as you don't play the system you can get it flashed afterwards. There is a massive built-EQ setting that needs to be removed in the radio. Typically, if you play the system without "flashing" the radio, you'll likely blow up the speakers. Sounds like you played it absolutely safe and everything worked out! -Eric
Completed install last night. I am impressed! With the stock system on my 2020 SGS, I would lose the speakers at 80-82 mph. Today I’m doing 90 mph and it’s LOUD at half the volume. RF, thank you for providing this video. I watched it in segments several times as I installed this kit. Between the simplicity of the kit and this video the project is idiot proof.

Just had my 2015 CVO Limited done with this setup except I put in 4 - 6 1/2” circular speakers. It’s mind numbing the difference. I highly recommend this setup.

Russ, did you have to get special wiring, because of the CVO limited. I have a 16 CVO limited and Harley thought I might need a special wire harness to install this kit.

Glenn, Thanks for taking a look! A popular choice is starting with the Stage-2, then add the saddlebag kit later. This would be the TMS69BL14 6x9" kit. You wouldn't need to modify anything because the system would already be configured with the Stage-2 installation.
I have a first generation system, with the DSR1 integrated. It seems the T Harness in this version would eliminate a lot of the current wiring setup and a cleaner look. So, would the T harness be available separately?

Can you elaborate a little on how a DSR1 integrates in to the T harness. Im looking to purchase this system but also want the DSR1 as well
Hi David, yes certainly. I'm assuming your integrating the DSR1 into our Rockford Fosgate T-Harness as supplied in the HD14RGSG-STAGE3 kit. Here's the steps to follow:
1) Remove the DSR1 from the box and have it ready. NOTE: you will not use any of the harnesses included with the DSR1.
2) Find the extra harness that came with your motorcycle audio T-Harness labeled AMPLIFIER INPUT / DSR1 OUTPUT / SUB.
3) Detach the AMPLIFIER INPUT jacks and plug the extra harness from Step-2 labeled AMPLIFIER INPUT into the corresponding amp AMPLIFIER FRONT/REAR INPUTS.
4) Plug the other end of this extra harness labeled DSR1 OUTPUT into the 16-pin DSR1 OUTPUT.
5) Detach the remaining 16-pin to dual 4-pin harness from the main T-harness (originally plugged into the amplifier) and discard it.
6) Plug the remaining male 16-pin connector from the T-harness into the DSR1 INPUT.
7) Find the smaller 18-pin male connector located the main T-harness containing a BLUE / RED/ YELLOW wire and plug this into the DSR1 VEHICLE data port.
8) Find the amplifier B+/GND/REM connector and swap the BLUE wire from the H-D12V turn-on connector to the T-harness BLUE/WHITE wire labeled AMP TURN-ON.
9) Turn the system on low volume and connect to the DSR1 using your Android or iPhone Bluetooth.
10) Start tuning your system!
I purchased the TM400x4ad model amp +amp install kit, rear saddlebag speaker kit and TMS65 speaker kit for my 2015 SGS. Your video mentions a T-harness. Will the wire connectors, supplied in the amp kit, also work on the stock head unit or i it easier to purchase the T harness? If so, can you direct me to the link? Thanks

i have this kit to install on my 2020 street glide special. Am i going to need some.kind of bypass plugs that i mentioned on the 2nd page of the amp tuning guide? Are they invluded in the kit?
Only if the factory system is equipped with an amplifier you will need bypass plugs. They are included in the kit with the amplifier mounting bracket. The amp tuning guide I showed you earlier indicate where on the motorcycle they will be located. You'll plug the bypass into the empty harness once the harness removed from the factory amplifier.

I would recommend keeping the fairing off once you're ready to power the system on. Sometimes, depending on rider height, you may need to turn the FRONT GAIN or REAR GAIN down to match the output levels to your ears. This is just a very slight adjustment because the gain settings are very sensitive.
Ok, 🙋🏾♂️🙋🏾♂️🙋🏾♂️! How important is that DSR1? I am having this system installed at the end of the month. Now, I'm not looking for a competition level sound system, just some good sound at highway speeds. I'm wondering if I should kick out for this extra piece or will the base setup will be enough?. Hi Antonio! If you're looking to actually hear your music at highway speeds, you'll need the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" flash to go with the Stage3 system. If you don't flash the radio, I can pretty much guarantee you'll blow the speakers, so this is really important. The DSR1 is an optional piece for those who want "Parking Lot" sound quality. Which TechnoResearch (or any other brand) will flash the radio on a 2019 CVO Street Glide? One I can use myself at home.
Hi Kirk, We use the Centurion Audio piece. They have a "Pay Per Bike" kit that it reasonably priced. This will allow you to flash the radio to the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" setting. You can find more info here: technoresearch.info/audio-tools-harley-davidson/centurion-audio/
Is the radio flashing only for radios with nav. I have a base model 17 street glide with basic radio. No nav or security fob system a the bike
Radio flashing is for all 2014 and newer motorcycles with a GT 6.5 or GTS radio.
Seems like a nice kit. My only concern is that the way the speakers are wired in this video, removing the bags would be a pain in that you would have to remove the main harness and the grommet to get the bag free. Can the speaker connector be installed outside the bag so it could be easily unplugged when the bag needs to be removed for servicing, cleaning, etc???
Hi David, we install the connector on the inside so the chance of it catching on the drive belt is minimized. You can use an blade to cut half the grommet, remove it from the cable, and install the grommet on the opposite side of the quick disconnect.
Question. My buddy had Rockford fosgate installed by a professional last summer on his 15 street glide special ( amp and 2 speakers in fairing and 2 in the lids ) but he said he couldn't notice it being much louder at hwy speeds. Could the installer have messed something up ? he said they flashed his radio.
The difference is you can actually hear the audio at highway speeds, whereas as many others get drowned out. If the issue is he cannot hear the audio, I would likely check the amplifier setup. What screws do you use if you are mounting it to a street glide with a Sony deck installed?
There are no specific provisions for this configuration. If the amplifier L-bracket doesn't line up with the two holes on the top back of the radio, we recommend using 3M red double sided tape to hold the assembly in place.
Can this stage 3 system install in HD road king with additional lower fairing
Good question Micky, we actually have a dedicated system for the Road King (HD14RK-STAGE2) available at czcams.com/video/ExnZK4_UzFs/video.html . The system uses a Bluetooth receiver with the same powerful TM400X4ad amplifier and features an expansion port for lowers. Look at the SPECIFICATIONS tab for the Deutsch connector required to take advantage of the lower expansion port. Installed stage 3 on my 2022 streetglide. Took bike to dealer so the could flash it and I was told that since is not a Rockford Harley system it can’t be flash is this true ??
Good Morning Miguel, thanks for your purchase of the Stage-3 system. There are two ways to flash a factory radio; 1) Harley-Davidson technicians typically use their OEM "DigitalTech" device to scan the Harley-Davidson CANbus, that also allows them to "flash" the radio. 2) Many Rockford Fosgate dealers (some are also Harley--Davidson dealerships) use an aftermarket "TechnoResearch" device, that provides additional functionality. Sounds like the dealership isn't aware of the aftermarket flasher and only wants to use their OEM version. No problem, there are 2 solutions:
We have a list of Authorized Dealers that can flash for aftermarket systems here: (rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1344/). The setting we want them to use is "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" that provides better low-end response.
If none of those dealers are nearby and it's just more convenient to have your local H-D dealership use their OEM device, then we would recommend "2 Speakers / Upper Fairing 1 Amp". This setting is flatter than our curve and doesn't have the low-end boost that many riders like. This was actually our first recommended flash setting years ago until we were able to build our own flash configuration.
I have the HD stage 2 boom on my 2014 SGS but thinking of upgrading. My bag lids are cut out for the HD speakers. Would this system use the same cutout? if no, is the RF cutout larger or smaller?
Hi Robert, can you clarify that your bag lids are "cut out" for the HD speakers? Typically, BOOM! Stage-2 systems are equipped with saddlebag lids that are pre-molded to fit 5x7" speakers from the factory. If so, we have TMS57 speakers that are drop-in replacements.

I am currently working on this project and was wondering if it will be of if I have it flashed after install as long as I don’t turn the system on? Currently a lot of rain so I would like to complete whatever possible before taking it.
Hi Charles, thanks for using Rockford Fosgate on your ride! Yes, you can flash the radio before/after the install. You can certainly test the system to make sure all your connections are done properly, just keep it at a whisper volume until it's flashed.

Do you have to drill into the stock saddlebag lids or buy the speaker lids?
Hi Cody, this is a retrofit kit that uses the stock saddlebag. At timecode 08:58 you can see I'm removing the factory saddlebag and prepping it for speaker installation. Please note, these must be the plastic Harley-Davidson saddlebags. These are not compatible with early Harley fiberglass models or other saddlebag brands. - Eric

Hey guys great system! I went with the stage 3 with the stage 3 kit with an additional 2 speakers for the lower leg fairings that i bought through hogworkz. For a total of 6 speakers. Sounds amazing.
I do have a question though. With the amp able to power up 8 speakers on a tour pak, could I have another set of 6x9's installed in my lids?
And would the amp be able to handle 4 6x9's in the back?
Thank you Michael Sly for your purchase. That's a great system with the lower additions! YES, absolutely the TM400X4ad amplifier is really a 600W amp and can easily power up to an 8 speaker system. Since the front and rear channels are stable to 2-ohm, you'll simply add the second set of 6x9" to the existing 6x9" on the rear channels. The Stage-3 amplifier wiring kit came with 2 Y-Adaptors for use on the output of the amplifier. Dig up this Y-Adaptor and plug it into the REAR OUTPUTS of the amplifier. Output #1 will go to the original 6x9" and Output #2 will go to the second set of 6x9" speakers.

Do you guys have another cutout template for an additional 2 more 6x9's for the lids? Or will i have to buy lids that support dual 6x9's?
@@mikepsly73 Using another 6x9" template on the back side will not work because of the contour of the lid. Yes, you would need to purchase a baglid that supports dual 6x9" speakers. The only downfall with dual 6x9" lids is the speakers actually fire backwards at a slightly degree (away from your ears,) so they are not as effective as the forward installed 6x9" speakers.
So the way the wire in the bags are connected inside the bag how are you removing the bags if needed?
You'll need to detach the coupler, pop the grommet out, and route the wire through. The grommet is a hardened plastic so it can withstand the abuse. Our New Product Development did this to prevent any slack in the line, especially on the drive belt side since this is a serious liability issue. Any slack in the line can catch on the belt and you'll pull the entire harness out and wrap it around the rear wheel.
I just had the stage 3 installed on my Road Glide a little over a year ago. I just noticed the right rear bag speaker is no longer working. The system was installed at a bike event how would I go by getting a replacement speaker?
Sorry to hear you're having an issue. We need to check to see if the speaker wire has voltage or if the speaker is blown. You can quickly disconnect the speaker wires and connect them to a test speaker to see if it isn't working. If so, there could be an intermittent connection under the fairing. If you don't have a test speaker, you can also connect your voltmeter and measure AC VOLTS to see if you get any readings while playing music.
If you determine the speaker is blown, you may have too much bass boost on the radio. Reduce that so you don't blow the other speaker. For the speaker, submit a warranty claim below and we'll get you taken care of. Warranty Claim Form: rockfordfosgate.com/contact-us/41/

Hi Zero, just to follow up, you probably got the same reply already, but Harley-Davidson does have a bracket for based on systems that utilize a BOOM Audio Stage-2 system. The bracket relocated the TCU behind and to the side of the factory installed amplifier.
Do you lose the waterproof of the saddle bags if you install bag speakers?
The TMS69BL14 saddlebag speaker kit included with the 2014+ Stage-3 kit in the above video incorporates 3 sealing system:
1) gaskets along the speaker grille prevent initial water ingress.
2) The clamshell fitment of the mounting ring to the grille prevents a second level of water ingress.
3) The 6x9" speakers are Element Ready™ so they are designed to withstand dust, UV rays and water.
If you get caught in the rain, simply flip your saddlebag lid to dump the water and you should be good to go.
I'm getting this system put in on my 2019 RG special. If i added lowers would I need another amp and if so would it go in one of the saddle bags?
Great question Michael... the included TM400X4ad is powerful enough to run 8 speakers. Simply use one of the included Y-adaptors (from the amp install kit) on the front channels to connect both your upper fairing and lowers to it. You can use one of the harness supplied with the amplifier to connect to this Y-Adaptor and use a length of speaker cable to connect the lower speakers. (edited to include lower output harness from amp kit)

@@mikepsly73 Wow, you have a high stakes job ... glad I'm able to help online since our phone lines get pretty backed-up in the a.m. Yes, the TM400X4ad actually produces around 575+ Watts, so a lot of customers consider it "under rated". It's also stable to a 2-ohm load, which is what the amplifier will "see" when the uppers and lowers are connected. It's definitely not in the same category as other "motorcycle amps" that claim big numbers. Let's go back to the lower harness... I checked with our technical support and they suggested using the harness supplied with the TM400X4ad amplifier box. I forgot we included that harness, so you don't need to buy anything to connect your lowers to the Y-Adaptor, except maybe a little cable to extent down to the lower pods. You'll have 1 rockin' system! P.S. Thank you for all you do by keeping air airways safe!

He called on Tuesday and was told maybe in another 2-3 weeks. Of course he was already told that twice. Are you guys for sure getting more in stock and if so when?
I have a 2020 StreetGlide Special, where you put the amp, my bike has a Advance Automotive Antenna on top of my radio. In all your videos, you guys don’t show a newer bike. What happens to that part? Is it gonna be obsolete? I just purchased Stage 3, installed nicely, but now what happens to that part, I hope it doesn’t give me a fault, can you give me some info
Just following up on this message that the bracket to relocate the TCU to the side of the amplifier is available from your H-D dealer. Were you able to get this taken care of?

On our side, technical support said we don't get many requests on the bracket, so they usually have the installer zip-tie it out of the way.

Using the above kit (HD14RGSG-STAGE3) you would need to add a 2nd set of TMS65 speakers and build a harness that connects to the included Y-Adaptor that would attach to the amplifier's front output channels. I have a Sony head unit. What settings are suggested?
We suggest using the CLEAN setup using 0dB @ 1 kHz Gain Overlap on the amplifier so it matches the actual output voltage (can differ based on radio model). You can see the procedure and download the 0dB at 1kHz test tone here: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1126/
Can I flash radio first then install the kit ?
Great question Ivan, Absolutely YES you can flash the radio first, then install the kit. You'll want to make sure the installer uses the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" flash setting.
I installed the stage 3 kit on a 2014 street glide the bag speakers will only work when the amp is on 2 channel and they won't work when it's switched to 4 channel is that right
Hi Denver, verifying you have the RFK-HD14 amp installation kit supplied with your Stage-3 kit. This T-harness supports 4-channel fade from the factory source unit. It's important that the radio be flashed with the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" flash setting so the amp switch can be set to "4-CH INPUT". If it's flashed with the "2-Speaker Upper Fairing / 1 Amp" setting, you will have to set the amplifier to "2-CH INPUT" so it feeds all 4 channels of the amplifier.
I have the RFK-HD14 installation kit so once it's flashed I can switch it to the 4 channel and the rear speakers will work on the 4 channel setting pp

I just installed this kit and I get 2 hiss/pop noises when the amp turns on. Any ideas on what would cause this? I do have the radio flashed.
The "double heartbeat" is caused by the CANbus not communicating with the factory amplifier. This is low level and will not hurt the system. Once this happens, the hiss goes away, correct? If not, the amplifier inputs are not properly plugged in.

@@danielschriock6287 You can use a turn-on delay. Implementing the DSR1 into the T-harness also eliminates it if you're planning on DSP for the future. Our tech support can help you with a turn-on delay setup at 1-800-669-9899. Again, it's perfectly harmless and will not damage any of the equipment.

@@danielschriock6287 This happens with the factory Harley-Davidson Standard 4.3, Premium 6.5GT, and Ultra Premium GTS radios. The radio is looking for the factory harley-davidson amplifier on the CANbus. Although we flash the radio to eliminate the EQ, the radio still tries to find the factory amplifier. Since there isn't one to send an "OK" signal back to the radio, it pops. You would think the radio would be programmed to no longer look for the amplifier, but that didn't happen. Everyone who flashes the radio has this issue. The only way currently is to install a turn-on delay. The DSR1 startup has a turn-on delay built-in that suppresses this pop.
Can this system be upgraded?
Yes, it can be expanded to an 8-speaker system since we include a Y-adaptor for the front and rear outputs so you can add Lowers and/or TourPak in the future. It also has a DSR1 signal processor loop built into the harness that allows you to add a DSP and tune your bike to your liking.

Unfortunately not at this time, but it truly is plug-n-play. It's literally just switching harnesses around, including one of the harnesses that shipped with your 14+ amplifier install kit. @brandon81250 not sure if technical support was able to get you squared away, but here is the process for integrating the DSR1 into an existing Rockford Fosgate STAGE2/3 kit:
1) Remove the DSR1 from the box and have it ready. NOTE: you will not use any of the harnesses included with the DSR1.
2) Find the extra harness that came with your motorcycle audio T-Harness labeled AMPLIFIER INPUT / DSR1 OUTPUT / SUB.
3) Detach the AMPLIFIER INPUT jacks and plug the extra harness from Step-2 labeled AMPLIFIER INPUT into the corresponding amp AMPLIFIER FRONT/REAR INPUTS.
4) Plug the other end of this extra harness labeled DSR1 OUTPUT into the 16-pin DSR1 OUTPUT.
5) Detach the remaining 16-pin to dual 4-pin harness from the main T-harness (originally plugged into the amplifier) and discard it.
6) Plug the remaining male 16-pin connector from the T-harness into the DSR1 INPUT.
7) Find the smaller 18-pin male connector located the main T-harness containing a BLUE / RED/ YELLOW wire and plug this into the DSR1 VEHICLE data port.
8) Find the amplifier B+/GND/REM connector and swap the BLUE wire from the H-D12V turn-on connector to the T-harness BLUE/WHITE wire labeled AMP TURN-ON.
9) Turn the system on low volume and connect to the DSR1 using your Android or iPhone Bluetooth.
10) Start tuning your system!

Please explain the differences in the stages
For 2014+ Road Glide / Street Glide kits, they are listed below (other kits are similar but vary on the bike's features). All stages utilize the same Power Series TMS speaker line and same amplifier.
- STAGE2: Fairing Speakers + Amplifier
- STAGE3: Fairing Speakers, Saddlebag Speakers + Amplifier
Note: there is currently no STAGE1 system.

hey I have a 2019 Electra Glide Standard with fathead Cycles Sony xav-ax7000 kit thinking about adding your stage 3 kit. I've got a two part question. Can I use the "fairing" 6.5's for the aftermarket lower fairings I'm going to install. Secondly are the saddlebags water tight after installation. I'm what most would call a die hard biker it will be rained on.
@@Killapickle87 Yes, you can use the fairing speakers for lowers. You would likely use the HD14RGSG-STAGE3 and add a 2nd set of TMS65 speakers. You would need to build a harness that connects from the amplifier's output Y-Harness to the lower speakers themselves. You can find details on this kit here:

Yes, the saddle bag kit uses a 3-part seal to keep water out. Just be sure to dump any water from the bag-lids so it's not sitting in a puddle.
Why dont i see any midrange or tweeters on these speakers ??
Great question Paul. At 3:53 we show a good view of the front of the speaker. The tweeter is in the center, and the midrange surrounds it. The reason for this is correcting for phase alignment. By aligning the tweeter voice coil and midrange voice coil on the same plane, the acoustical propagation of sound waves emanate at the same time. This keeps both drivers in phase and eliminates any need for any DSP time alignment.
