Just on doing my 2008 XC90 D5, and had the reverse problem you had - my old part looks like your new part and vice versa! The weird thing is that, though I haven't installed the new one yet (genuine Volvo part), my engine appears to have holes for both styles of idler assembly! Very strange.
I reccomend you changing that power steering pulley asap. My friends euro 3 d5 had the power steering pulley destroyed in pieces as the car was running then the auxilary belt made the cam belt snap and the engine got locked up.
Regarding the plastic power steering pulley that seems to be in poor shape on your car: Mine is a 2007 car and I dont think this pulley is plastic on mine it looks different. So maybe they changed it to a better pulley probably during the transition from "1st gen" Euro 3 D5 to the "2nd gen" Euro 4 D5.
I am amazed at the detail with which you explain how to make repairs and the quality of the video footage is amazing. Thank you 😁👍
That’s very kind, I very rarely watch other videos so I have no idea how they compare so thanks for the feedback.
You explain everything really well and methodically.
thanks your video helped me.
You're welcome!
I love your car , I can't wait to start repairing my S60
Your lucky that snapped steering pulley didn't shred your belt and take your engine out.
It’s been like it for years in all honesty
I think you’re right to keep the V70 running. The E3 is better built than the E4. I’ve had both and the earlier one was smoother and gave better mpg.

I think the holes are there for both on mine as well, no idea why they changed them.
Cool men ..thx💪

I’m looking for another donor car. I had one ready to fit from a donor car and I accidentally dropped it and smashed the pulley.
Hello , I had my alternator replaced on my volvo v70 i think the serpentine belt is too tight . How tight should it be ? thanks

I’ve had a spare pump from a Euro 4 ready to fit to my car and I know it was plastic because I accidentally dropped it on the floor and it smashed 😳
@@IAMASPANNER right then let us proceed with caution around this type of power steering pump. 🙃 Did they use the same pump on other engines?
The generator clutch may also not work
