Before we start, let’s make something clear. Someone asks on Quora, “Why do Americans call university, college?” It is a little bit confusing if you’re not from the U.S. When Americans talk about college they are usually talking about institutes of higher learning that you attend after you graduate high school. One university might have several colleges, such as Cornell University, which has seven. ‘College’ and ‘university’ are interchangeable. We just thought we’d make that clear.
If you say you are going to college in the UK or Australia or somewhere in Asia, it usually means a place of further education or somewhere you might study a vocational subject such as nursing, textile manufacturing or automotive repair. So, today we are talking more about differences after high school graduation rather than a comparison of two similar types of institutions.

College would be *higher* education
As a college grad, my biggest piece of advice to those who decide to continue their education is this.... do NOT procrastinate! You don’t need to finish your paper the day it is assigned, but do NOT wait until the night before it is due.
I procrastinate so hard and it causes me trouble. It’s not easy not to procrastinate too. I agree with you, it’s much better to be disciplined. I’ve only been in community college for a week, I am motivated, but not that disciplined.
im grade 9 and never procrastinate, life is good
I don't procrastinate much, unless you count putting off a paper to do more short term assignments.
Soooo.... Do it immediately so I don't forget?
It's really hard not to procrastinate. I am still practicing self-restraint. Any tips to stopping procrastination?
In high school there isn't even much of a hierarchy. Its just a bunch of friend groups and people are more rated on their likeability and entertainment value
Yea, that’s how it is for me, I go to a special higher education high school in my county so I have friends I had in middle school, friends I have in this new school, and I am team captain of another high school’s ice hockey team so I have lots of different friends groups. I’m not a “popular kid” though cause all these groups never heard of each other so to each school I only have a few friends when in actuality I have many.
Same. This isn’t middle school anymore.
I asked my daughter if she’d seen my newspaper. She told me that newspapers are old school. She said that people use tablets nowadays and handed me her iPad.

First time in high school: I miss middle school
First time in college: I miss high school
First year in the workforce: I miss college
I was happy to graduate High School. No more soap opera drama over irrelevant things. College was way more fun for me. It was an adventure everyday, more freedom, and no one cared about popularity or things like that. We were all young adults planning our futures.
First time dying: ahh I miss having a life
first time retiring: i miss working
I miss middle school now I just want to end it now
Freedom always comes with more responsibility. When you're a baby you have pretty much no freedom, but everything you need (nutrients and water) is given to you so you don't have to do anything. On the other hand, in university/college, you have a lot of freedom, but you need to prepare your own food and do other boring and repetitive tasks.
True words of wisdom spoken right there. The best way to live is to enjoy and look forward to doing the repetitive tasks. That way, you're free and happy. It's up to us to discover how.
Not true. Sometime during the teen years you get more responsibilities but don't get any more freedom until you are an adult
@@petelee2477 but with that responsibility you have the freedom to not do it properly too..

Close By at my school we have an average of 13 kids in a class!
If you major or even minor in what you're genuinely passionate about, college is so much more fun for you. Take every class and use it to further a future career, especially by connecting two classes' materials together.
Just about to start my first year, I was hoping it would be like this 🤞
what is major and minor?
In most of the United States.
High school = You better be on a prime sports team or one of the popular kids with rich parents if you want to have fun and not be miserable. Social status is important.
College = You better be an athlete or in a decent fraternity/sorority if you want to have the "college experience". Social status is 10 times more important than it was in high school.
What do they have in common? Adults and grown ups will desperately grab you and say "look her junior these are the best years of your life!" while having a psychopathic look on their face because very likely these are the same people that amounted to nothing in life.
One of the realest comments..
What colleges are you talking about? Literally everyone in college is too busy to care.. sure there’s the few that still live in the high school mindset but for the most part people aren’t worried popularity anymore.

I’m a civil engineering major in college, and so far college has been extra easy. Keep in mind I am currently a freshman and taking 17 credit hours. In the end of the day everyone’s experience is different but I have lots of fun and also get my work done ✔️
Yeah engineering is stupidly easy in the first year, they spend most of that year just catching students up on basic principles and, since most engineering students are hard workers, as long as you get the work done as soon as possible, you'll be golden.
The next years though? Sheesh. Tests on top of tests, coursework, exams, internships.

I grew up in a bubble community where everyone looked like me and more or less believed the same things. Best thing to happen to me in college was me becoming more open minded. High school was harder because of having to be told what to do and I honestly struggled to do well. I really like college and did well because you get to choose your own schedule, professors and it’s up to you.
I did my first 2 years of high school in Switzerland and now I’ve moved to Italy to finish of high school and it is very different, I’m used to having lots to study but more responsibility and freedom when it comes to class
Our teachers were very different to now , my old biology teacher sometimes would cancel class because he was tired so we’d go home early.

X files uni helps you think like an adult and think smart and critically. Im only in my first year and i would of never even heard about half the shit we’re learning
That was one of the biggest adjustments I had to make when in college was enforcing a schedule on myself rather than teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors micromanaging you. That was quite a shock initially as I am and have been a notorious procrastinator my whole life, so there were some assignments and papers that just barely got completed in time to be turned in. It's definitely a strange feeling when someone else is behind the wheel for the first 18 years of your life and then suddenly "BOOM, okay go be an adult now." Uhhhh......how? How is life post highschool
It’s been 5 years
With College and University, you have greater choice over the schools that you attend, the degree and major that you do and the kinds of classes that you take. This means that you are around more like-minded people in your classes with similar interests so it’s easier to make friends. Although the degree of choice is based on your SAT and the strength of your college applications.
This is opposed to high school where you don’t get a choice (or much choice) of where you go and the kinds of students that you are around. You will be around many people with varying and differing interests and it’s challenging to make friends if you re an introvert or have interests that are not considered to be overly popular (I.e. if you’re not into Sports).
College and University is more freeing whereas High School is more restrictive with the kinds of classes that you need to take and the differing personality and social types of people that you are around in classes.
There were student discounts I could have use of that were not on campus? Woulda been nice to know that 4 and a half years ago. Of course, I like that your spreading the word now. Cheers!

im actually scared shitless since I am going to college in a month
It also depends on the classes you’re majoring in
It depends on what major and how you acted in High School. Hardest to easiest would be Engineer, biologists, math major, humanities, business, arts, and physical education majors.
People who cheat, disruptive, popular, or social often tend to drop out cause they have no self control.
I'm a Junior in Marketing at a moderate University and life was heaven compared to my High School. People cheated off me, ask me retarded questions and regurgitate information. RIP MAC users cause most of them don't know even know Ctrl +F or where the save button is.
The people with High GPA tend to suffer the most because they focused so must in remembering that they don't know how to use it creatively. Just copy and paste everything.
Delicious Apple rip, I’m social, cheat, and am pretty disruptive around certain people people like good friends. Overall I’m quiet in like half of my classes, how do you think I’ll do? I’m planning to do running start senior year btw.
Sergio Buryy im in highschool, I have a 3.5 gpa not very social and kinda lazy, Im not sure how that will do in college
Depends on how you can handle preparing your own life. College is like IKEA, you choose what to build and you build it yourself. You feel proud in the end because you were smart and committed enough to do it. High School is like other furniture stores. Where they already built a system for you but you don't like most of it. The place is old, small, and outdated.
Hardest to easiest for me would be Arts, Physical Education, Humanities, Biology, Business, Math, Engineering. Almost the opposite as you!
Yup
My school assigns an average of 4.5 hours a day
You should do a secondary school vs high school
college in australia is primary - secondary P-9 in 1 campus, high school 10-12 different campus, on rare occations some schools have P-12 in one campus
in Australia we call it University (Tertiary/Further Education, not college)
USA:
university is the the institution
colleges are campuses under the university
I’m starting college tomorrow
Wish me luck😭😭
"I'm tired so class is canceled" had me dying because that's so true
Another big difference between both is how the schedule is laid out where in high school it's one class directly after the other with only a 5 minute break in between 5 days a week whereas in college times in between classes can span across a couple hours with some classes only happening two days a week and depending on how you have your schedule laid out, you could have classes for only 4 days or even fewer and classes being only a semester long instead of a year long
I only have 1 year left in high school and I don't have any idea how college/university is. This video really made me more relaxed about it
