  • HERE IS MY #QUADLOCKDAMPENER 6 MONTH REVIEW & HONEST OPINION ON THE #QUADLOCKWIRELESSCHARGER ...
    Am I a FANBOY? Yes I guess I am, however is all okay in the 'hood? Not necessarily! Does the vibration dampener actually work? Does it protect our iPhone cameras from the vibrations caused by mounting on a motorbike that damage our camera mechanisms? The only way to test that is to use it for six months. Also, #Quadlock have some questions to answer and maybe they can comment on how their (arguably) flagship product was rushed through production at the expense of their normally superb reviews? Is their #weatherproof charging head actually weatherproof? Could they have done a better job in development and design? You will see here also the other QUAD LOCK gear I use such as the running armband, my car charger and my desk charger, also have a look at my unique helmet camera mounting using the QuadLock system ....

    Nice vid Neil. I massively rate the QuadLock products I have purchased, and had good customer service from them too. I have not bothered with the wireless charger though as it is easy enough in my instance to just connect the phone to a USB, I'd be pretty miffed if I'd gotten one and it was like that though, kind of destroys the point of it if you have to plug that to a USB-C lol :D

      Yeh it’s been hit and miss so far, it does actually charge well, but it’s not quite as good as it could be for what it actually costs. I’ll pay good money for stuff no problem as long as it’s cock on. But this isn’t quite right 🥴

    Those were probably the first wireless kits, which were replaced after a while with a more refined and complete kit, having 2-3 waterproof usb-c cable in the box. No problem with mine.
    I like to point out that if you mount the wireless charger kit on the anti vibration item, you will need to mount the anti vibration base in a way to don't interfere with the usb cable in to the wireless charger head. Safe ride everyone! 😉👍

      yes. I've held off getting the charging head for a long time till I saw the updated model. Now I can keep my phone charged when it rains without too much worry! Unfortunately the darn thing keeps stopping its charge when the weather gets warm in the day, I am assuming either my phone or the charger itself is getting too warm to allow the charging to go through. And since the LED indicator on the charging head was the one flashing the error, I am assuming the charging head itself was the device thats overheating.
      Maybe a V3 will come out with larger cooling fins?

My iPhone (still the same one) is fine, however it’s become more apparent that the damage to cameras when not using the dampener is possibly caused by engine frequencies not just physical more ‘aggressive’ off road vibrations. So far after 1 year my iPhone 12 Pro Max camera has survived being mounted to my dirt bike/trail bike handlebars with the vibration dampener. Maybe just luck, but I’ve read so many stories where the camera has shit itself after minutes. I suggest it be mounted horizontally or as close to it so the rubbers are loaded evenly. After blowing fuses on my USB charger 3 times while riding in rain and having my battery drain quickly while relying on my phones navigation app, I wondered if the charging head would fit on the dampener. I believe the vibration is due to the engine, so not something you get on a mountain bike. The micro vibrations when it's revving to thousands of RPM causes the damage to the sensitive parts of a phone camera. Cameras actually move to focus - they're not just a single solid object in that sense. Micro vibrations can damage them and would affect all cameras, not just those in an iPhone, and should not affect mountain bikes as much, if at all.

      @@devlinn1 OKAY mate let's have a look at how I installed, I too was a bit concerned about field of view but the medium setting seems to work fine with 1080 60p 50M ... I mounted on the right of my helmet because I have my Cardo communicator on the other side (which is left side fitment). Obviously the helmet type/make dictates where we can mount the Universal Mount ( www.quadlockcase.com.au/collections/shop-other/products/universal-adapter?variant=4273642693 ) on the helmet (different shapes and size of surface area) but it can be turned 90 degrees to allow a nice even fit. The universal mount isn't that critical on the angle, just get it stuck evenly and neatly at around half way front to back. The adhesive wall mount ( www.quadlockcase.com.au/collections/shop-mounts/products/quad-lock-st-adhesive-mount-twin-pack?variant=346961674258 ) I fitted to the camera/case, this of course needs to be at the correct angle as once installed there's no adjustment other than every quarter turn. I aligned the camera lens so it's exactly at the same angle/direction of the helmet visor - when it's shut of course ;-) ... the way I did this was, after installing the Universal mount I inserted and turned/locked in the wall mount (without the camera/case) then looked side on at the helmet, lined up the camera with the lens at the same angle as my helmet visor, peeled off the backing and stuck it on as far forward as the case would allow. Hope this makes sense. You get two wall mounts in a pack so if get it not quite perfect you can always have a refit. On an old Arai I actually fit my Universal mount on the side-pod, never an issue either. If you want some better images of mine drop me an email at theriderguider@gmail.com and I'll take some pics and send you them back.

    I don't know if the dampener works. All reviews I've heard on it don't fix the issue. You can't get proper results unless you were doing this with an iPhone 11 (or newer) model OR an Android that also has Image Stabilization, because that is where the camera issue happens with the servos inside. Along with that, trail riding won't really "aggravate" the dampener compared to a street bike is running at 10k+ RPMs and causes much higher frequencies of vibration. Appreciate the review, but I feel this still doesn't suffice that the dampener helps for those having issues with phone mounts ruining their camera.

Yet QL in releasing a specific case for said phone HAVE implied such fitness for use and yet walk away from liability caused by their product through insufficient testing/ research and product development. Funny also despite this, ppl who have had their phones destroyed without recourse from QL aren't leaving poor reviews on the QL website we're lead to believe? riiiiight. anyway top reviews and info. much appreciated.

      I don't think it's just a Quad Lock mount problem. Any mount from any manufacturer can cause phone camera damage as from what I understand now, it's caused by frequencies specific to certain motorcycles - not in fact an issue which I initially thought was down to undulating surfaces we ride over shaking the hell out of the internal workings. My belief is still that Apple should be selling a more robust product seeing as it's as expensive as it is compared to Quad Lock supplying a relatively inexpensive mount.They sell their mobiles with the intention we use them in every day life, and for a great number of people that includes attaching them to their motorcycles. I just feel that it's something Apple should be addressing rather than Quad Lock or any other firm curing the problem by having to manufacture a dampener.

In fact any high end phone could suffer from the issue, because it’s the optical image stabilizers that fail. Only the high end phones have physical image stabilization. It’s not really something that can be “fixed” without removing the system that makes the photos and videos so phenomenal.

    @michaelwilliams3861 Před 3 lety +1

    Hi, just come across your channel. A few words about what your saying. Why would apple change something that only happens to such a small number of phones? I don’t know anyone that’s had this issue, and know one that’s knows anyone that has, so can you imagine the percentage of apple phones , that are in the world that have this issue? They don’t make phones to be put through that frequency of vibration. Not economically viable. And about the WiFi charger, I think quad lock have addressed the issue now. And it doesn’t take the brains of an archbishop to waterproof that connector, while your waiting for the mod. A bit of rubber compound would have sealed it up, it’s a permanent cable really anyway. Sorry for the rant lol

    • @TheRiderGuider
      @TheRiderGuider  Před 3 lety +1

      Firstly it’s happened to my phone ... twice. Once before it was a recognised issue. Which Apple fixed without knowing what caused it. Second time they questioned if I was mounting on a motorbike, so they had by that stage realised there was an issue of enough magnitude to have their staff aware. Their own research will have pinpointed which batch or which model has or had the issue and they could have recalled. Having paid a three figure sum for what Quadlock advertised as a weatherproof product, no customer should be expected to then have to go and make it actually weatherproof. Apple I think are duty bound to fix the vibration issue, but Apple despite their worth didn’t address it to stop it happening. At least Quadlock threw a load of research and money at it to produce the dampener.

    yes,very nice system, but expensive, end every body with a allen key can take it of in a minute, i realy don't understand why there is a connector, why not just a cable coming out of the unit with an connector at the end, then they have to cut the cable to take it off, so its a bit safer, and completeley weatherproof

      Hello mate, not heard of any Samsung issues … and not all Apple, just certain models.

  • @preston2adelaide
    @preston2adelaide Před 3 lety +4

    I’m also a Quadlock fanboy and use it daily - I was even one of the test dummies for the dampening device so I’ve used that for over 12 months. The issue isn’t unique to Apple though and the fragile stabilising tech breaks Samsung phones as well.
    The issue comes from the high frequency vibration from the engine which resonates through the bike and into the phone. It isn’t from bumps in the road/trail and hence why it isn’t really needed on your mountain bike.
    I’d be interested to hear why there are zero reviews on the wireless charger??

      @TheRiderGuider  Před 3 lety

      Oh wow that’s interesting. Nice input mate. I’m impressed with the dampener for what it does to be fair and like I said in the video ... great value. I’m looking at a way of permanently sealing my wireless charging connection and fixing it, just got to find the right product, windscreen stickaflex or similar would do it I reckon, just a fingertips worth 👍🏼

      Having spent $140 on a advertised weatherproof item … does having to then spend more money and time to actually make it weatherproof seem reasonable? I’d say not.

    It's not an "Apple" or "iPhone" problem. It's a Modern Phone problem. All high end phones these days have physical image stabilization, and those, will suffer, without the dampener.
