Not that it mattered in the end....but the Firefighter that broke out the windows doomed the house by allowing the fire to spread! He must of wanted the place to burn down to the ground.
It had already self vented so breaking the widows was irrelevant. But it did allow for a quick visual of the interior as well as an escape route, which is why a ladder was placed there as well as on the 2nd division, because there are often vagrants in these places
I’m in no way trying to Monday morning quarterback this fire because you guys fight a hell of a lot more fire than I do. I’m just curious as to why the truck company vented those front two windows. It seems to me that it just created a flow path to pull the fire more into the building. I also understand that I don’t have a full 360 view of the house so I have no ideas what is going on on the Charlie and Delta sides. You guys are awesome and this was not a criticism, just an observation and a question. Thanks fellas and stay safe.

Absolutely disagree on it had already vented so it didn’t make a difference on breaking windows. If you’re trying to extinguish the fire and save property/lives, you don’t pop windows or create a flow path until water is ready. What if someone was in the front room? You’ve just drawn fire into that space.
See how nature has reclaimed the surrounding area? There once were structures all along this stretch of road... In some sections of the city, an arsonist or vandal could torch everything on the block, and it STILL wouldn't be a threat to anything occupied!
I wouldn't be to hard on the firefighters this fire was self venting before first due arrival. Also don't forget Detroit about a decade earlier declared Bankruptcy. old equipment and understaffed because of the measures taken to get the cities economy back on track
I for one feel sorry for these men, they answer calls everyday for vacant buildings burning, have outdated or equipment that is poorly maintained because the city could care less, and the are the lowest paid in the entire country. But they still show up for work and do the job regardless, maybe the people of Detroit need to start sending their congressman/woman and Senator some hate mail then maybe some help will start flowing for this once thriving city.
Until people begin to elect new leadership in Detroit nothing will change. They continue to follow the same failed policies of failed Democrat mayors since 1962.
@@KylesRV totally agree with you, NYS has the same problem. We have a mob boss Governor, a whack job in congress in AOC, and then there is prune face Nancey's boy toy Chucky leading them all. Truck Company....absolutely no sense of urgency Cleaning windows was not necessary, but made no difference in the end. Fire appeared to have started on the front porch. Deck Guns are under utilized....but highly effective.
Popular question Brian....in Detroit, there are plenty homeless people that squat in these houses. Usually, they light a fire to stay warm, and if it gets going, they leave. If we don't go inside, and a civilian dies, here comes the lawsuits !!!! Sucks, I know. Firefighter Walter Harris died when the roof on a vacant dwelling collapsed on him...sucks !!
If the fire isn't taken care of, it runs to the risk of catching the surrounding foliage on fire (which starts to happen in this video) and can then potentially spread to surrounding homes and businesses that are actually occupied.

Deck gun: "Here, hold my beer"
Deck gun kicked ass. Knocked that fire down. Bought a lot of time for the line attack. Good job.

I wondered that, too.
Not a single hoseline off the truck and they're ventilating? PPV? Maybe they planned on letting it burn...

That deck gun💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Engine 34 comin’ in hot!
gotta love that deck gun!!
Deck guns r fantastic....
I like these guys style. Get it burnin and then open it up so it can really take off. Hell throw a fan on it too! YES!
Yea, Detroit. How many fires do they even go to? Fire was self venting.

We have some of the best firefighters in Detroit
i would like to know what you base that on

That's what happens when Dumbocrats rule the city and state.
Thank you brother
Just let it burn down to the ground. Clean up the vacant and blight. Let em burn...
You know it sometimes sucks when the truck is first to arrive, then you look back and see a rescue as second lol.
Great shot sir do u know where i can get some shirt fron Detroit hamterick highland park fd thanks u. I am a big collecter.

If you leave any of the structure standing you will be back for another call.
Saved the cellar hole. Success!
A bit overoptimistic with the PPV fan. :)
Sad when you think how nice it was in that neighborhood once
Where I lived we used to call us urban renewal
When was this shot? Thought S4 had there new rig. 34 still running a old Pierce.
This was back in summer of 2017 I was trying to upload for months and it kept failing and finally it uploaded
I recall the squads were bread trucks, lol
Structure was fully involved
Breaking out a few windows wasnt going to matter at this point
I don't understand why the ladder company didn't open the freak'n fence.
That's truck and trucks don't have water. Ventilating without water, not good. Most people can go to fires and never learn a thing.
So what color is they Turn out gear
Black blends in more than your usual department in Detroit ;-)
You lot do it a lot different to the UK we use water
Good job laddering the front of the building . For what?
there are often vagrants staying in these places
Just incase. Just because it appears to be vacant doesn't mean its actually vacant.

LET IT BURN
What the hell is a box alarm why can't they just say a fire has been called in
Box is 3 engines truck and squad and a chief
need a little work bringing that hydrant in.... over 3 minutes to hook up and send water?

Maybe the ladder will put water on the fire. Eventually.
Another case of urban renewal.
5 firetrucks ,one truck doing most of the work? real swift detroit,I'm surprised you have any houses left to burn
Why are all fire workers just walking around?? Why dont they have water with them?
Detroit needs to clean up the blight. Bulldoze all the abandoned "squatters shacks" and actually do something to revitalize the community
the plan was to let it burn all along 😂 the guy broke windows and brought the fan to help. shit show :)
why waste man power and water on a vacant dwelling ???????
