  • This fire was in Rogue River Oregon, right across the street from my Mom's house. I drove up on it when going to visit her right as it started. the tent trailer out front was on fire first then the propane tank vented a fireball into the garage. Has to be the worst and scariest sound I have ever heard. Everyone made it out of the house, but it was a total loss. Be safe out there.
Listen... Getting tired of all the hate about videoing instead of calling 911. My Mom was on the phone with them right next to me so I didn't feel it necessary. Yes I shot the video, I wanted to document it in case it jumped to my Moms house, and maybe help the investigation. In a stressful situation what would you do? Yeah it's easy to say you would do this, you would do that... You weren't there. It was the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed. Before you scream why aren't you helping?? Well as I said in my comments below, I ran to the house to check if anyone was inside... It was too friggin hot to do much of anything. I am not a firefighter... After I turned around the friggin propane tank went and thats when I started recording. So please keep your negative comments to yourself. Thank you.

First of all, I would like to give thanks for all of the positive comments and support. This is my fire department and I was on this engine. It is sad that some people have to be negative during tragic events. I would like to clarify some details that most people are not aware of when watching this video.

House was a total loss before the FD even arrived. I am so sorry for the people who probably lost everything.

That older kid trying to calm the little kids down is a champ. "They're just items. We're all safe." What a nice kid.

As a former fire Captian and training officer I felt I need to comment. The fire service accross the country is strained with shortages of personnel right now. We were back when I was in the service. That being said efficiency could have been better and a quicker fire attack could have been made. We trained to let one FF out at the hydrant who pulled a 2.5 line the engine would roll to the fire, FF would take the hydrant/make connection and charge it when pump operator was ready. Captian and other 1 to 2 FF's would pull a preconnect Crosslay right after exiting the engine. Pump operator would make 2.5 connection from supply bed to pump and signal for water. Attack FF's don't have to wait for hydrant connection and can start protecting the exposure houses with tank water. Supply water is one to two minutes away via hydrant. This is all with a crew of 3 to 4 FF's. Not bashing these guys, they saved the other structures from the looks of it. They are fellow fire fighters and just them putting their lives on the line is commendable. We learn from experience and debrief after fires to critique what went well and what didn't so we can do better next time. We trained on fire attack at drills regularly and could make these attacks in approximately 3 minutes or less from the approach to the home.

It is so heartbreaking to hear those children cry. Brings back memories of my own house fire and how scary it can be. Prayers for the family that lost their home and the ones that received damages during this time frame. Hope everyone is safe.

As sad as it is to lose everything you own if everyone made it out, that is what is important. Thank you to first responders and neighbors who helped comfort the kids.

When I was 15 yrs old My house burned down as I was throwing pots of water on it. Needless to say I lost that battle very quickly. Now as a 55 yr old grandpa I have a 5 lb ABC Fire Extinguisher in every room and 2 in the kitchen. The fire department is 5 - 10 minutes away but the extinguishers are a few steps away.

Please please listen. Valuable lesson to learn here. If you’re ever in a situation where your home/building you’re in if you can do so safely close doors on your way out of the building. This closes off oxygen to the fire and can actually help to keep the fire very small. Has been shown to actually save more of the structure and help responders put out the flame faster. Really sad to see this happen but really glad everyone is safe.

As someone who was in a trailer fire and witnessed them as well, I was 10 and 11 and at 62 I STILL deal with the occasional trauma. Especially when staying overnight at any of my relatives in mobile home communities.

I will admit that I know nothing about Rogue River Oregon, but when my house caught fire, every firehouse in the city was represented and were there within ten minutes of the 911 call. I am not positive, but there may have even been some mutual aid units. My heartfelt condolences go out to those who lost their home and belongings. Having been through it myself, I know how devastating it is. I lost my two poodles from the fire and they were the only family I had left.

This is the problem of building houses too close to each other there should be a mandatory distance between them I’m surprised the insurance companies don’t have something to do with that

Crazy how people think that a Fire truck is just parked down the street waiting for calls. A lot more goes into it especially in rural areas. People need to be more prepared to handle things on their own.

Next time instead of asking if anyone called 9-1-1, make the call yourself. The 1 minute of footage you will miss is worth the time. Amazes me how people are so focused on recording emergencies fully expecting someone else to call for help.
