  • Hey guys! Since I turned 40 a few weeks ago, it is officially time to start getting annual mammograms. In today's day-in-the-life I'm sharing how my first mammogram went, what to expect and if it hurt. As a busy mom I know how easy it can be to neglect your own healthcare but you shouldn't! Breast cancer screenings are very important and something you should make time for!
    God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. (Ps. 46:5)

    Mine hurt (big chested), I was so nervous and tense. The tech was helpful and made me laugh while adjusting the machine and the girls. I was 35 when I had my first one, it came out fine and go back at 40. The longest part was waiting for my turn, but it went by fast. Praying your results are good.

    I go today with my BFF to get our mammograms. They can be very stressful and I have experienced anxiety over getting them not because of the test but what the test could show! I had issues when I was 42 and had a lump removed but have had no other issues since and am feeling less stressed about going...especially bringing my best friend along! Glad you did a video like this because many women are scared to have one but you presented it in a way that is not scary! Have a great week and I hope you get or already got the all clear!

    I’m 59 today so I’ve had many mammograms...years ago the machines were a little different and each technician is different as well...years ago the way the tech positioned you it could pinch and some flattened the breast more than others so at times it was more uncomfortable. Overall nothing horrible but I’m glad things have improved over the years. I have a lot of anxiety so actually the waiting for them to tell you if everything was okay is the worst part for me. Thank God I don’t have breast cancer in my family and I’ve had good results every year...so that helps me to stay calm. I’m glad everything went well for you 💕 Janel in NJ

    I know I need to get one. I've had a concerning "lump" in one of my tatas. But I'm scared. My tatas are 90% implants. So I'm a little scared they won't know what to do with mine and I'm worried about what the lump will be. I'm also worried they won't do it because I'm only 32.

  • @kimmerrou
    @kimmerrou Před 3 lety +2

    I'm 44, so I've been doing this for several years- plus I have super dense tissue, which translates to you go every 3 months until they feel they have a good "reference point" in my case I think it was three or four times.
    My first time I was so nervous. I had heard all the horror stories. I actually had a hard time sleeping the night before. When I got there, I was blown away by how bad it wasn't. Oh, it's uncomfortable. The side profile one is not fun. But it is over with so quickly. I told the technician and she said she hears it a lot. She also told me in days gone by it was a lot worse. Nowadays they're able to do different things which improves the testing.
    The worst test I've been through is the Fiber optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) where they put the scope through your nose and you have to swallow something like 500 times. It's not painful, because they numb you, but it's awkward and I have a deviated septum so they tried to get it in through one nostril and couldn't, so they went the other one.
    It's all the the person who is having the test. Like a colonoscopy. It's unpleasant to even think about that. The test is NOTHING. Easy peasy. It's the prep that is horrible. I've had 3. My father passed away from colon cancer, so it's not something I take lightly.
    Sometimes the things we need to discuss are the things that we ignore because they can be awkward. Allowing the awkwardness of the situation to rule us though can be detrimental.

    • @aplacetonest
      @aplacetonest  Před 3 lety

      @@TheJazzySmiles hi! So it was totally fine! I had a wonderful technician who explained everything to me in detail and explained the process and everything. I have a lot of breast tissue (D cup) and It was uncomfortable but not unbearable and it only lasted a few seconds for each image (I only had one breast done and it was 2 images). The top down squish wasn't painful or anything but the side squish was a little painful because of the way they position the breast and its squishing against the muscle as well. She said if you have fibrocystic breasts (like i do) it can sometimes be a little bit more uncomfortable because your breasts can be more sensitive. But it wasn't unbearable and it was over basically as soon as it started. My tech was quick and efficient so I was in and out within like 3 minutes at most. For me I kept telling myself that a few moments of uncomfortability is worth peace of mind for results. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was thinking it would be! I hope your appt goes well!! 🖤

    Just had my first mammogram today. I've just turned 40. My Mother died of stage 4 breast cancer back in 2002. She was diagnosed with stage 4 at the age of 49. Ever since my Mom died I was told I would have to get breast exams and mammograms at an early age. The doctor recommended when I turn 40. Anyway the mammogram was an interesting experience. I had some added obstacles that the technicians had to get around. First of all I have a chest deformity called pectus escavatum. It's when the there is to much cartilage in the ribs and so the ribs grow inwards pushing the sternum back giving the the chest this deep indentation. I also have an implant defibrillator device underneath my left collar bone and sits just above my left breast due to a heart arrhythmia I have. The third thing is I have tiny breasts. It took 2 technicians and a lot of moving and twisting my body around and positioning my tiny breast just right on the bord but some how we were able to get it done and get some images. Now as far as the machine is concerned and what it felt like? Well, they put your breast on a black x-ray board and then cranck this clear plastic board down on top of your breast that smooshes your beast down. It feels like your breast is claimped down tightly between these two things. You just have to relax and stand still. When they turn the machine on to take the picture they tell you stand still and hold your breath. The machine makes these little beeping sounds. It goes beep...beep... beep beepbeepbeep and during that time it takes the x-ray picture. Right after that the technician tells you that you can breath now and the machine releases your breat. They have to do a top and bottom image of your breast and side image of breast. For the side image they just rotate the machine and instead of black x-ray board being under your breast it's on one side of your breast and is claimped down again between the 2 boards. As women have said it feels uncomfortable but not painful and its really quick. Like your boob isn't smooshed for too long.
