  • This video continues from the Carb removal video, now on the bench the carb will be completely disassembled cleaned and reassembled with a James gasket kit P/N JGI-27006-88. On asssembly it will be mildly jetted with a CV performance Jetting kit model CVP-TC80X. During the assembly it was noticed that the Idle mixture needle was fully seated indicating an issue. Furthermore, both the washer and o-ring were missing from the needle and replaced with a separate kit from JP cycles, Part number 56-2008. An unexpected amount of carbon on the top end indicated much back firing in the carb, necessitating a deep cleaning.

    New owner of my first harley. A twin cam 88 03 dyna with 12K miles. It's been off the road a while and needs the carb cleaned. I HATE cleaning carbs but this video series with some of the best step by step instructions, details and everything so clearly done will help me greatly!! I know how to clean them but those brass jets etc give me PTSD. Thank you very much for such an awesome "how to" video!! You've earned yourself a new subscriber!

    Great detailed explanation!! However being a long time wrench myself my experience with CV carbs that wasn't in the video. I don't apply oil to the diagram and exl pump. They tend to swell up. I also put white grease on all screws! Especially the bracket screw & bowl screws! I like to check the bowl for flatness and file any uneven areas! As well as the slide rails tend to have uneven areas and hit them with a jewelers file. Then buff them smooth. This tends to fix slide binding and chatter. I also polish the front of the slide. Instead of scribing marks on the mixture tube screw tube I use a sharpie. I like the red mixture screw knob !! Curious to know if the needle in the Kit is a 88-1200 needle which the same company sells separately? Just my two cents!

    Most correct detailed video I've seen yet. But! I have a question? I've watched your video part 1 and 2 at least 5 times now. I pulled the carburetor off and drilled plug out removed everything and cleaned real good. after putting it together it ran great. But, after taking it on a 10 mile run to fully warm up engine , it started spitting and dying at a stop. I had to idle it up to around 1150-1200 rpm's to keep it running. when I got home, i tried adjusting the mixture screw and it made no difference even if I ran in all the way in to seat. I have had this thing off 5 times now trying fix but can find a thing I did wrong. I even replaced the intake rubber boot to the carburetor. It was real hard getting the carb. unseated from the intake too. 2006 FXSTB night train with 17,000 miles. I sprayed carb cleaner around intake and other areas of carb and nothing. You have any ideas that I might try? I'm a 70 yrs old Vet and was a auto mechanic for over 45 yrs. I've rebuilt a lot of carbs back in the 70's and 80's but I lost on this one. Can you help

    The carburetors get pretty sooty with the crankcase breather that is routed through the air cleaner and directed into the carb inlet. It also leaves deposits on the intake valves and piston tops. They sell kits to vent to atmosphere or a discreetly mounted catch can. The bikes run better without the hot and oily air coming in through the intake.

    • @delorean1
      @delorean1  Před 3 lety

      true, but when I do removal and install demo's i generally do it by the book along with design faults. What you see here has more to do with backfiring due to a failing sensor than a breather return.

Saw on line there should be a ball bearing in the float body that should be loose.......Din't check that , any suggestions? Thanx again

    • @delorean1
      @delorean1  Před 2 lety

      Im careful about simply recommending cleaners for the carb in a tank. Many can attack the aluminum. Id recommend googling a specific cleaner for carbs in an ultrasonic tank for aluminum and purchase that.
