Great “huecas” to taste good food.. You need to check an iconic “Hueca “ in Quito, “ Los sandwiches the “San Agustin” they been open since 1837, one of their specialty are los sandwiches the “pernil “👍🏻
I didn't have the sandwich but I have been there. It felt very touristy at lunch time and my food was only ok so I haven't featured it.

I'll have to try some of those huecas on my next trip. I have gotten quesadillas at that same place. They are good for freezing to bring home to my mom in the U.S. They're just as delicious when thawed! ... I'm not a breakfast eater, so, I'd say my favorite breakfast is any fresh juice (they're all so delicious) and cafe pasado. Thank you for sharing all those great places!

I'm subscribed. When I lived on ecua I loved eating patacones, egg and coffe or bolon de Verde, egg and coffe. Or fresh bread from the bakery!
I just finished up an Esmeraldas trip and they take bolon to a whole new level with shrimp.
I'm having hunger pangs big time after watching this. Tigrillo definitely a favorite of mine but it's hard to beat the freshly made tortilla choclo at Mercado 27 de Febrero,Cuenca on a Thursday morning along with a cup of their morocho- yummmm. I'm returning to Ecuador soon, can't wait to eat all these things again. Thanks for the great videos.

@@ayngelina Most of my favourites were little almuerzos places around where I lived in El Vergel (Ave Diez de Agosto y Jacinto Flores). There was one under a house down from pollo broster place down Diez de Agosto. Can’t remember name but owner was Santiago. Of course, there’s all the places in Las Herrerias but I think you might have already over those.
And, of course, the deli run hotdog stands like the one outside Poplar supermarket in Ave Remigo Crespo Toral. Perhaps some of these haven’t survived Covid. Oh and also the almuerzos place opposite Parque de la Madre near a heladario and the Indian restaurant. Hope there’s some ideas there for you

Tigrillo by far is my favorite! However best empanadas are at Empanada El You on Isla Santa Fe are a great start to the day.

Favourite breakfast in Ecuador : Tortilla de yuca, sunny-side-up eggs and a mountain of fresh fruits.
Yuca is 100% one of my favourite things in Ecuador.

Interesting, when I hear Fritata, I default to thinking of an egg dish. That looks like the most delicious dish of mote, we've ever seen.

@@eduarditobedoya3560 I'm pretty regional with my eating. I only eat ceviche and other seafood on the coast. It's because I'm from the coast of Canada and I know that maybe other places can get seafood the same day, but they usually don't have cooks who grew up eating seafood and know how to beat make it.

Los mejores sanduches serían los de pavo y chancho ya que eso son los más típicos del pais o bueno en guayaquil es donde mas se consume esos dos tipos igual toda la comida que probaste se veía super rica! Esa quesadilla no sabia que se hacía con achira también, desconocia de ese dato, yo solo sabía que la achira lo hacían en panes en el cantón Girón que allá es muy común consumirlo así. Otro lugar que te recomiendo queda en el centro histórico es un restaurante se llama "hasta la vuelta señor" , queda en el palacio arzobispal, no es barato pero te sirven algunos platos típicos como el quimbolito, caldo de pata, el rosero quiteño, el tamal de gallina, las bonittisimas, etc. Otro lugar que te recomiendo frente al parque central de pomasqui está el local "el parquesito" ahí venden chicha de morocho, distinto al morocho tradicional y que hoy en día pocos lo conocen y existen pocos locales que lo hacen. Ahora que se viene la Semana Santa te recomiendo a que pruebes el molo de papa que es como el puré de papa pero nuestra versión ecuatoriana y aunque no es tan famoso como la fanesca en la sierra también se lo consume junto con el dulce de higo! Gracias por dar a conocer nuestras comidas típicas, como siempre un excelente video!

My favorite depends on when. Kinda hard to beat coastal seafood overall.
Esmeraldas has ruined me. The food there was so exceptional every single time it's hard to go back to normal coastal. Planning a Manta hueca video soon so it will be interesting to see what they have as Cuenca has such a strong hueca culture but it's so very different in other cities.

My favorite is humitas de dulce, sal y quinbolitos and of course fritada, hornado and we have something in common I love tortillas de papa ❤️

OK, so my favorite breakfast. Are you asking about a dish or a location? For me, I loved "Desayunos el Charito" on the 2nd floor of el Mercado 10 de Agosto. When I was last there, the owner was Don Rogelio Brito. He and a small, talented friendly group of ladies served many great dishes. If you're planning a return to Cuenca, would you be nice enough to see if they're still open?
I'll be in Cuenca at the end of the month!

It's called tigrillo and it's boiled plantain that is mashed and often then pan fried with scrambled egg and cheese as the base.

carisimo ese mote de sanJuan....una hueca digna de ser visutada en cuanto a mote es la que hay en la alonso de ángulo y maldonado. El puesto que esta junto a los encebollados.

OMG I live at avenida de la Prensa 500 metres from Fritadas Bolivar. I've never imagined it would be worth it. I trust you and I will follow your recommendation soon! Motes de San Juan are good, but also too overrated. There are cheap better places for mote con chicharrón.
I’m not a huge mote fan, I like more sucio the most. But seriously get the tigrillo. It remains tops with Zaruma and Nothing else comes close.

@@ayngelina please "Mote con chicharron" in Spanish.La Magdalena. Its a "barrios de Quito" small. " papas con cuero"barrio Atahualpa frente a los bomberos. Morocho con empanadas de viento .

No it's from the coast. You'd need to find somewhere that has a cook from Manabi. Although perhaps Supermaxi might ocassionally stock it.

I would like to explore those Huecas, and I have a motorcycle. Is it safe to park close to the Huecas you describe as not safe to walk to?
I will be back to Quito in late April to conclude my nearly 6 month Motorcycle tour of Ecuador, and this video just became a big chunk of my to do list. Gracias!
Don't miss the empanadas video czcams.com/video/qp-ufNx68vs/video.html it is actually my favourite. So both places in San Juan are take out and early in the day so you can stand by your motorcycle. For the spots in Centro Historico we parked in a parking lot by the Basilica, we've actually used it a few times and it's fine. For the brewery we parked right in front of the security guard at the bar there.

Yes it's still open. A lot of these hole in the wall restaurants aren't on Google because they don't bother to put their business on Google and are neighbourhood joints. It is literally to the left of the hotel.
Wow! Going by view counts (5,543) at the present time, it appears your "Hueca" video has really attract the masses. Are you surprised this has received more than your incredible Galápagos videos? Do you think you'll follow up with "Huecas Quito Part 2" and the same for Cuenca? Do you have a Huecas video for other Guayaquil or cities?
Galapagos is a bucket list journey and so I think people start watching videos when they want to plan. But Quito and other huecas videos are accessible for everyone. I am planning a Cuenca part 2. And I will do one in Manta, but I don't know about Guayaquil. Not every city has a strong huecas culture like Cuenca. Even in Quito it was tough because I wanted to give options for central huecas that tourists would be near. There are others I've been to in Quito but they would be a long drive for a tourist.

Honesty, I realize you're doing us a huge series of favors by not only helping us to become more comfortable getting beyond the traditional spots, but even considering our logistics. You're very kind, and have really thought this out much better than I feel I could have. I recall going to Spain, and trying to follow some of the published best eats in Madrid, and really feeling disjointed. We didn't have a bad meal, however logistics can be huge.

I don’t like that much fritada ósea it’s ok 👍 if the people knows how to do it it’s really good 👍 but I’m not such a fan 😅 I am in love with hornado or my lovely chicharrón 🥰 chochos yummy 😋 I loveee tamales 🫔 de pollo hayacas or empanadas de morocho or cangrejo also yapingachos , locro de papá , caldo de pata , i like sanduches del arbolito el tradicional 😅it’s good ! Quesadillas are also not my favorite thing 😅 I prefer aplanchados but only from hansel&gretel restaurant
The funny thing is if you look at the video you see we bought TWO things, Andres also loves aplanchados. But we had them a few days prior in Salcedo (video next week) and they were SO amazing, that having these ones were just OK.

That no everybody knows how to make amazing aplanchados o juicy fritada or the perfect chicharrón … all depends the place… for example for me the only aplachado the number one ☝️ is at hansel&gretel cafeteria so good 👌👌👌
