Are these options, if you stay longer than around 8days really cheaper than a Monats-GA for 440.- CHF? I know its a bit more difficult to get one probably but i guess its still cheaper in many instaces.
my mom and i were so overwhelmed with all the information for the train passes. i've watched nearly every video of yours and it has made making this itinerary so much easier. great info and explanations. thank you so much!!
I paid CHF 260 for one month, unlimited use. Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places in the world and I am so lucky I am Swiss.
Cheers from New Zealand đ
We totally agree with you!!
Hands down the most useful and comprehensive video that has answered all my questions for Switzerland and its travel! Thank you
Awesome!!! We are so glad to help! đWhen is your next trip to Switzerland?
At Last !!!!!. A clear Black and White description of the various Swiss Passes available.... My wife and I were scratching our heads about which pass to get when we get there but your video has made it so much clearer. And thanks for the HOURS and HOURS of editing in your videos. Great job. Keep up the good work. Max. Australia.
Hi Max! We are so glad to hear this brought clarity to the wild world of Swiss train passes! You're right-these videos take LOTS of work, but they're worth it knowing that they're helping people like you have a great visit to this beautiful region. Thanks for your comment!

You are so kind, thank you for your encouragement! We genuinely love Switzerland and want to help others travel there too, and we're glad you can see that in our videos!
Totally agree, these two are so cute and funny, Moooooo
I donât usually comment on videos at all but thank you so much for this in-depth guide to train passes! I was convinced Iâd get the Swiss Travel Pass, but Brett, thank you for sharing your research and knowledge of your trips to Switzerland and how to save money on transportation. Xoxo
Claire, we're so grateful for your feedback, and that you decided to leave a comment! Helping people like you have a great trip experience is what motivates us to share what we're learning.
Out of curiosity, did you choose to go with a different pass? Would love to hear what you ultimately decided, but no matter what, we know you'll have a great time in Switzerland!
@@AplinsintheAlps Iâm still deciding between passes. Will be doing a little bit more trip planning before my partner & I make a final decision on which pass to choose for our trip in July (thatâs happening so so soon!)
If we happen to see you both in Switzerland, will definitely say hello and thank you!
Take care both :)
Keep us posted, and hopefully weâll see you there!!

This is amazing! So helpful!
Youâre welcome! We are so happy to help you plan your trip to Switzerland! đ
I am planning a trip to Switzerland for April, 23 days touring 6 cities, 3 panoramic trains and climbing as many mountains as I have nearby. I watched over 100 videos that made me change courses several times. Your videos from different places, how to go, how much to pay, etc. are incredible, thank you. I do not know how I did not find them before. I am almost 77 years old, I hope to return to Argentina whole and alive :), thanks, thanks.
What an incredible trip you have planned! We're so happy to hear you'll have 23 whole days in Switzerland, and are very glad we can help you with your trip plans!
Goodluck and enjoy my friend
This is one of the best and most useful videos Iâve seen about traveling to Switzerland. Iâm going to Basel-Lucerne for 3 days and I spent hours trying to understand the different passes đ Thank you for all the effort youâve put in that research man đđœ
Wow, thank you for your incredible compliment! We are so happy to help and share our research with you! Also, enjoy your 3 days in Switzerland! :)
Will you say what pass you end up picking. It doesnât have information for younger folks, between 6-16. Iâm traveling for 3-4 days to Lucerne and wondering which pass I should get, 2 adults and 3 children (6-16)
My goodness....this might be the most important video I have seen before planning my trip to Jungfrau region. Thanks a bunch. Keep up this great work.
Thatâs so encouraging, thank you Hasan! We love helping people visit Switzerland đHappy travels!
Good info. You guys are awesome. Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement! We really appreciate it:)

Thank you so much for this video! My friends and I are going to Switzerland this summer and staying at Interlaken for five days. I've only used Swiss travel pass the last time I was there. This video is so helpful to understand the different travel pass available.
Glad we could help you understand the train pass options a bit better!! đ
Well done! To the first timer the information can seem overwhelming, but just taking oneâs time with this video and using the download is very helpful. Iâve traveled to Switzerland 8 times over the last decade and as I tend to go all over and like to make spur of the minute decisions on destinations depending on the weather Iâm a big Swiss Travel Pass fan, especially when one considers the convenience of hopping on anytime without having to purchase a ticket beforehand. BUT, the advent of the SBB mobile app in recent years does make that half fare card a game changer if youâre comfortable maneuvering that. Will definitely consider that for future trips. I will note that in July and December of 2021 there was a 25% off sale for the STP, but I hadnât seen that since 2013, so it was likely an effort to jumpstart travel after the shutdown. (It pays to stalk some good Swiss travel websites). Thanks for a great video!
Laura, thanks for taking the time to watch our video, download our guide, and share your thoughts here! Youâre absolutely right that this info is a lot to digest, especially for beginners! But we noticed that there wasnât any info out there for beginners, ao hopefully this is a step in that direction! Also, we love you tip about 25% off the STP đThatâs a huge savings! Have you used the SBB app? If so, what do you think about it?
@@AplinsintheAlps I've not used it to buy tickets as I've always used the STP. I've only used it to check schedules. For what I've needed it's a great tool. To be honest, until the last three trips, I've travelled on the cheap without getting a SIM card, only using the free wifi at the hotels. That changed though, when my hubby kept asking me questions while on the train about an upcoming connection. I told him if he wanted the info we were going to have to fork over the "dough" (money) to access it. 40chf well spent. Happy hubby, happy wife ;) It was time we joined the 21st century anyway!
Ha! Such a great story Laura! It really has been a stress-reliever for us to have a little bit of data to access the app too. Like you said-money well spent!
Hi guys. Great video. If you're on a budget and arriving at Basel you can also buy the train ticket from German Railwals. Buy the ticket from Freiburg to your destination in Switzerland and it can be significantly cheaper than buying vis SBB. Also, SBB offer the saver day pass. Book 2 months in advance and you can get the day pass coving all the main SBB routes (not mountain railways) from chf29. I always get this pass on my arrival day as it covers you if your flight is delayed and you miss your connection.
Hi Barry, these are great tips! We've never flown into Basel, so we'll be excited to try the German Railways ticket in the future!
We have used the saver day passes and found those to be good options for us at certain times. Although, we've often found we get a better deal going to the airport (when we'll be flying out of Switzerland) by booking a saver ticket in advance instead of the day pass. But I love the Day pass option for arrival days (since you never know if you'll be delayed and can benefit from the flexibility!)
We appreciate you watching and commenting!
@@AplinsintheAlps also, sometimes 1st class tickets are cheaper than 2nd class when booking the saver returns so always best to have a quick peak at both fares. I laughed at your Excel spreadsheet. I do the exact same thing.
Haha! Sometimes saving money is like a game to me ;) Haven't ever even looked at the 1st class fares, so we'll have to try it!
Well done. Thank you for taking the time to break this down into relatable terms. It seems the majority of visitors, like myself will spend 4-7 days in Switzerland and you have touched on the topics that mean the most to me; Trains, areas of interest and cost. Nice Job and Thank you.
So glad we were able to speak to what you really needed most! Thanks for letting us know:)
omg you guys, this is so much valuable information! I'll have to save this video for reference. Thank you!!
Fantastic! We hope that all of our videos can help you plan your future trip to Switzerland! đ
I really love your videos. So much detailed information and travel inspiration. I have a question about the "off season" though. We will be travelling to Switzerland the first week of December and most train passes are only available until end of Oct/Nov. Is there a winter travel pass? Or will the Swiss half fare card be our only choice?
Great question Dave! The Swiss Travel Pass and Swiss Half Fare Card can all be used year round. Last year, there was a winter pass similar to the Top of Europe pass (www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/corona-pass-winter/) so hopefully they'll provide that option again. Hope this helps!
Pretty detailed video guys, thanks for uploading it. I will be travelling to Interlaken last week of July and will be staying in the region for 4 days, during this stay I also plan to visit neighboring cities in the region like Lucerne, Bern and Thun apart from the famous Jungfrau region. So I believe the "Bernese Oberland Pass" should be good option for this as I believe it would include all my travels including boat trips to Thun. Quick question : I also plan to club this pass with the "half fare card" which I believe will help in not only getting discount rates for the "Bernese Oberland Pass" but also to Jungfraujoch as I believe it doesn't cover in the "Bernese Oberland Pass", plus I will be flying into Zurich and travelling to Interlaken via train, where the half fare card can be of help ! Do you guys think this is good option? Also, how should I go about buying the travel pass? should I get the half fare card 1st and then buy the "Bernese Oberland Pass"? and can this all be done via the SBB travel app? thanks again for the video đ
Hi Shantanu! Thanks for the great questions! In this case, we absolutely agree that the Half Fare Card + Berner Oberland Pass would be a great option. You will definitely save more money with the HF Card than you spend on it!
You first buy the HF Card, and then you buy the BO Pass so you can get the discount. Both can be purchased online in advance, or in the train station when you arrive. We included links for purchasing both in our related blog post: www.aplinsinthealps.com/the-ultimate-swiss-rail-pass-guide/
Hope this helps, and that you have a great trip to this beautiful country!

Great information for the one's travelling in Switzerland. Loved how it answered many questions.
So happy to help answer your questions! đ
I wish I had a trip to Switzerland planned! Lol but still a great video :)
When youâre ready to visit Europe, weâve got you covered! đ
Hi, what a great video, but I'm still a bit confused with all the options in our situation.
we are with 5: 2 adults, 1 19year old, and 2 kids between 6 -16. We are staying in Wengen for 14 days. We like to do everything in the Jungfrau region, this includes the jungfraujoch and schilthorn. besides that we like to go 1 day to bern and maybe see some more places outside the jungfrau region but all in Berner Oberland region.
So I was thinking to buy 3 half fare cards and 3 Berner Oberland region passes + 2 for the younger kids. But is that one for the younger kids necessary, or do they travel for free with us if I get the swiss family card?
Hi Jurgen, great question! If you ask for the Swiss Family Card, the two kids under 16 will be fully covered. You won't need to buy a Half Fare Card OR a Berner Oberland Pass for them!
They'll ride free with you everywhere, with only two exceptions: the last segment of the Jungfraujoch and the Schilthorn. You'll still need to pay some money for their rides there. Last time I checked, 42.80 francs for the roundtrip between MĂŒrren and the Schilthorn, and 25 francs for the roundtrip between Eigergletscher and Jungfraujoch (confirm that with the rail office though!)
Kids under 6 always ride for free. Hope this helps!
For the younger kids the Bo card is only 30 CHF, so I would think the purchase of a half fare card is not necessary for them, nor the purchase of a Swiss family card when you stay mainly in the Berner Oberland region.
The Swiss family card is free if you hold a half fare card or Swiss travel card, so itâs a no-brainer for parents who will be purchasing one of those passes. We also discovered that anyone who plans to buy a regional pass and will be flying to/from Switzerland will actually save money if they buy it in addition to their regional pass!!
But to clarify, kids under 16 do not need a half fare card (in fact that product is not sold to children). And with the Swiss family card their journeys will be free so they donât need the kids Berner pass either!
@@AplinsintheAlps It's a jungle, all those passes!

Greetings from Albania. đŠđ±
Hello in Albania! We are so glad you enjoyed our video. Thanks for watching! đ
i watched this video til the end and now i know what i really have to buy,,Thanks guys... you rock!!
So glad it helped you Hazel!
I wish I had this video 3 months back! It is so valuable for swiss travelers! Would recommend for anyone who travels to swiss. I heard mostly about swiss travel pass but knew others passes exist. I tried to get this info from the corresponding websites but it was difficult. Then I arrived in swiss thinking I will figure it out there. The pass options were truly overwhelming and did the full research which you have in video thereby wasting half day in Swiss just for this. Since my itinerary was flexible but limited to three days in the region and Jungfrau was a must, we decided to get swiss haf fare card for one year with top of europe pass. I would recommend to buy these two if one plans multiple trips to swiss in a year and one of the trips itinerary is restricted to 3 days in interlaken area with Jungfrau. We visited all the places where the top of europe pass was applicable. Bernie's pass is amazing but the area is impossible to cover/ utilize its fully value in three days. Unfortunately its not well advertised. If not for Jungfrau and my duration I would have gone for Bernie's Oberland pass. Also for us from Germany, it was a no brainer to buy one month half fare card as we will plan few more trips to swiss and for extra 65 euros we get one year validity. Half fare one year card can be applied online too by uploading passport and we got a temporary digital half fare card and later the cards were mailed to us to Germany. For our next trips we are planning the swiss super saver day passes 3 months beforehand on top of our 1 year half fare card for travel đ.
Hi Manoj and thank you for your encouraging feedback! You made a great choice purchasing the 1-year half fare card-even if you don't return to Switzerland in the next year, we're sure you still got your money's worth out of it. And now every time you come back is bonus!!
Hope you do return and see more of this beautiful country :)
Great services, thank you!
Youâre so welcome! We are glad to help! And we hope your train pass helps save money and have a better trip to Switzerland!
My wife and I are planning to go there next March. Still deciding how many days to stay there. Fullt share your view that passes may not be the best option. But with a half fare card and the booking app from SBB is it possible to load two half fare cards onto one cellphone?
Great video, it has been really helpful in planning my trip to the Interlaken area.
Wonderful! Weâre glad to help!
I watched this video three times which is the equivalent to watching a movie! đ The PDF on your website with direct links to the different types of passes was incredibly useful. Thanks, and cheers from LaLa Land, California.

@@AplinsintheAlps Do you have any travel pass recommendations for the Zermatt region?
We actually havenât been there yet believe it or not! We do hope to visit sometime next year.
@@AplinsintheAlps Thank you for the quick reply.
Youâre welcome!
Great video, full of excellent information. Does the Berner Oberland pass help with Glacier 3000? Or simply the half-fare card. This video,( and your other ones) have truly helped me narrow down my plans. Jim.
Great video and thanks to your free hard work spreadsheet. Really helpful information for us visiting Swiss. We'll be visiting Switzerland this coming May2023 for 6 nights. Interlaken will be our hub as we visit Lucerne and Zurich a day each then spend the rest in the Jungfrau area. Now I have an idea what passes I'm going to need.
Fantastic! We're so happy to help you find the best train passes that fit your personal itinerary! Happy travels - and be sure to say hi if you see us around Interlaken in May :)
You had me at mega spreadsheet!
We're so glad you love a good spreadsheet like Brett!
Hi both(Guy & Girl), U are doing great informative, useful, colorful Suisse videos âđ
Thank you for your kind compliment! We are so glad you found this helpful!
Great video!!!!! I could not believe what I discovered when I was researching rail passes for our trip last year. I thought it couldn't be true. Am I the only person to see this? It's less expensive overall to buy the half fare card first and then the Berner Oberland Regional Pass. Plus!!! Every other ticket you buy is half price!!! Great information!! Love your channel!!
Just gone through your check list, very useful thank you.
(We still prefer the Swiss Travel Pass tbh as it's much more convenient for us)
Glad to help! And also happy to hear you were able to review the info, but still make the best choice for yourself. Good work!
You guys are awesome Thank you so much for all the information.we supposed to go to Switzerland this spring but we donât know much about it.and worried that everything are really expensive so we just went to Italy and just came back last week.I loved your content thanks to both of you so now I need to plan to go to Switzerland.we always stayed at Air B&B when we travel I hope will find one that it will accommodate for 6 adults.again thank you so much for all the great information đđđ.
We truly hope you feel more confident about planning your trip to Switzerland now! đAlthough we love Italy, Switzerland has a lot of beauty as well! And you shouldnât have a problem finding an Airbnb for 6 adults in the Interlaken areađ
Thank you very much .. Yes Iâm very confident now for sure to visit Switzerland Iâm planning to go there next Spring since we just came back from Italy.is next Spring better to plan? weather is perfect?you guys are awesome Iâve telling you guys with my whole family how great you are in your CZcams đđđđđđ
So glad you've found our videos helpful. And we're grateful that you've recommended us to your family!
Spring can be hit or miss-this year was really warm, but last year was really cold. If you want to hike above 2000 meters, you probably need to wait until late June to be safe (and some of the mountain railways and gondolas don't run until late May or June, so you'll want to check those schedules). But spring is absolutely beautiful for waterfalls, seeing more snow in the mountains, and less tourists!
Great videos- thank you so much for all the research and work done to create them. We are planning on being in the Berner Oberland region for 5 days, with 4 of those days being mountain excursions including Jungfraujoch. Based on your videos and my research, it appears a 4-day Berner Oberland pass along with the half fare card is our best option. We will also be taking train to Zurich on the last day. Would you agree that the BO pass along with the half-fare card is our best option?
Traveling Switzerland for the first time ever in September. We want to be all over the Oberland Alps.
Hi Maria, do it! There are so many beautiful places to explore, with many that most travelers never even see!! The Berner Oberland Pass really is a great deal that will allow you to adventure all over this beautiful place. Enjoy!
Love of all the helpful info. We are planning to visit in September. Definitely want to go to Jungfraujoch and possible the Shilthorn. What pass would be best ?
Founded you on CHannel Makers YT channel, and glad that I do, because this topic is very important for me because I want to go to travel in Switzerland by budget, and even if Switzerland is a very train friendly country, without knowing the passes and how they working it can be very expansive and sometimes is quite confusing.
So thanks for the video and topic, it is very helpful for my research.
Hey there! Thanks for following along from Channel Makers!! And we're thrilled to help you plan your Swiss vacation. You're right that the train passes can be confusing, so hopefully this clarified some things. Happy travels!
Thank you so much for your awesome video! Which pass would you saw would be best for a month long trip around Switzerland? I am planning on visits all around and would like to ride the scenic trains. I was thinking maybe the half fare one would be good?
We definitely think the Half Fare Card is an amazing deal-especially if you'll be visiting for an entire month! If you happen to be spending a few days or more in the Jungfrau region with plans to ride lots of mountain lifts, you might also benefit from one of the regional passes we mentioned in the video. The combo of Half Fare Card + regional pass is one of the best buys there is!
