    hi, swiss here from thun (right at lake thun near interlaken) ;)
    first of all, thank you for your videos, really enjoy watching them. I know it sounds weird because it‘s my home country, but i just do ;)
    so, since i live in the bernese oberland, i can give some additional information. when the kids have holidays, all the swiss families go up on the mountains to enjoy family time. those are the times where it’s really crowded. school breaks here are the following:
    - end of december + first week of january (winter break)
    - one week in the middle of february (ski break; yes that‘s a thing)
    - 3 weeks in april (spring break)
    - 5/6 weeks in july/august (summer break)
    - 3 weeks at the end of september and into october (fall/autumn break)
    every season has it‘s advantages and disatvantages.
    If you want to ski, then you‘ll have the best conditions in january/february.
    spring is the most colorful season where all the flowers and trees start to bloom. keep in mind that it‘s also pretty cloudy and that it rains a lot.
    summer is the most popular season to visit. most attractions are open, even some ski resorts in graubünden or wallis. everything is as green as on the pictures, the cows are on the fields etc. just really typical switzerland as you have it in your mind i guess. the only bad thing about summer can be the weather. in 2021 for example, there were heavy rainfalls, floods and it was pretty cold. you couldn‘t really go swim in the lakes or the public swimming pools. this past summer on the other hand was very hot with temperatures rising up to almost 40 degrees celsius. yes, that can happen too. there are mostly around 4 days in late july/start of august where it‘s really hot. the rest of summer is very unpredictable. what is really important tho, are the days with rain. in the video it says, that almost half of the month is rainy, but that‘s not really true. actually almost every morning and afternoon is sunny and hot, in the evening there are thunderstorms and summer rain, that‘s why. that is not a bad thing tho, it helps the environment to stay hydrated and not start to burn. in recent years there have been restrictions for making fires and using fireworks on 1st of august due to dry forests. so the verdict of summer: very unpredictable weather.
    fall/autumn is when the leaves start getting yellow/redish and fall off of the trees. also a very beautiful time to travel. just keep in mind that there can be a lot of fog in those months (ocotber/november).
    what time would i recommend? definitely may/june or late august until late september. temperatures are really good, the weather is mostly good, everything is open, not too pricey and the citizens don‘t have holidays (at least families).
    sorry for this long comment. i just wanted to „give my mustard“ to this topic, as we would say in swiss german ;)
    thanks again for the video, greetings from thun 🇨🇭🤩

      Feel free to "give your mustard" anytime!! :)

      @tobimael Před 4 měsíci

      @@CamJeffs1767 hey, sorry just saw your comment rn ;) easter is a great time for hiking. the trails should be open (if it‘s not too rainy) and everythings already green. just make sure to bring a rain coat, the weather can change any minute from sunny to really rainy.

    • @tobimael
      @tobimael Před 4 měsíci

      @@sailikithathota5116 hm that‘s not an easy question. it is green in both months, so the train journeys will be beautiful. just bear in mind that both months are quite rainy. while may is the month where it slowly gets warm around 10-20C, september is the month where it gets colder again 25-15C. I guess the water temperature in september will be higher, while you can‘t swim in may. the thing is, the weather here can be really good one year and the other year it can be really bad. both months are pretty the same to be honest. you can wear shorts and a tshirt during the day, but in the mornings and evenings you should have something to cover up with

    Just got back from Interlaken and wish we could have pushed the visit out to May. Awesome trip but lots of snow in the Alps and Shilthorn was blanketed in a snow storm when we visited. Your channel was a blessing as we chose the 1/2 day pass and the Berner Oberland pass. Even the SBB person we booked our tickets with did not know about the Berner Oberland pass and initially insisted it was not offered by SBB but she discovered after looking into it SBB did offer it. We booked our travel in Geneva for our whole trip. The SBB rep was very helpful though.

    Cause I will rent my car in France, and the car won’t have this “winter/snow” tires on the rental company, only this “four all season”.
    Also in Interlaken area, not on the Alpes, but at the regular highway…was necessary to use chains for the tires anytime?

      Layers, layers, layers! I’ve been to Switzerland every month from April to September. Jana & Brett are spot on when they say it can vary every year. My go to packing for every trip are short sleeved tops, long sleeved tops, a fleece vest, a lightweight jacket, a good raincoat, and a neck scarf. On a cold trip up a mountaintop I’ll wear all of the above as the raincoat breaks the wind and holds in the body heat. I’ll also pack one pair of long pants and two pair of capris. Then, one day out before travel I look at the most current forecast on MeteoSwiss and adjust accordingly sometimes swapping out a pair of shorts for a capris and determining how many short sleeve vs long sleeve tops I take. Bottom line-don’t overpack. Travel, especially by the wonderful Swiss public transportation is so much easier. I carry a 21” suitcase (that’s checked because of my trekking poles) and a backpack.
      Keep up these videos, guys. They’re a great resource.

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Před rokem +1

      Hi there! Good question! The short answer is, that would be a very LONG day. It's doable, but you probably wouldn't have the best experience of any place if you're trying to see all of them. However, if you really want to make it happen, here's what we recommend...
      Take the earliest possible train to Jungfraujoch. It takes about 1.5 hrs to get up there, which means you'd make it up probably sometime around 9am. Most people spend 2.5-3 hrs up there, which would mean you could wrap up around noon. From there, it's about an hour 45 minutes to Grindelwald First, putting you up there around 2pm.
      The nice thing is that Harder Kulm is open late, so you can go there in the Evening, leaving plenty of time to get back to Lauterbrunnen. So this is absolutely doable, but expect to be exhausted by the end of the day :)

      Hi! Swiss person here 👋🙂 i've just seen your comment and understand your confusion, based on the description of May in the video.
      I'll try to explain the situation in May: Weather and especially Temperatures are really depending on the altitude you're at. In the high altitudes in the Alps, May is still quite snowy (but we're talking the tippy tops, really high up) in the first two weeks. In the second half of the month there will probably be hardly any restrictions on gondolas and trains. So, if you are planning to hike in the mountains i would suggest the last to weeks of May or the first two weeks of June.
      This year though, we have a severe lack of snow in the Mountains, due to a incredibly dry winter and stuff is probably going to open up a bit earlier.
      Now, if you are planning to do more of a City-Trip (for example: Zurich, Berne, Lucerne, Chur, Bellinzona, Geneva) all of May will be great. In these altitudes springtime will be in full bloom by then. I would say May in the Cities is the start of what we call "T-Shirt Weather", where you can go about your day wearing only a light zip-up Hoodie and a T-shirt instead of a heavy warm jacket. In May we use the so called "Onion-Principle", to choose our clothing, which basically means layers, layers, layers. So you have the possibility to "peel" youself out of your clothes (like an onion) throughout the day. 😅
      We are very "outdoors-y" and active people, so there are fun activites to choose from all year round.
      Hope this was any help!

      @@Mimi............... Hi, and thank you for your detailed reply. I really appreciate it and it helped me clear up the confusion.
      I understand that May is a bit tricky with weather but unfortunately it's the only month i can travel this year.
      My trip includes 4 days in Grindelwald ie 10-14 May. (I decided to stay a bit away from the main road and just a 5-7 min walk from the train station)
      Do you think any of the hiking trails will be open then? Especially around Grindelwald?
      I would like to visit some other villages in the region especially Lauterbrunnen and Wengen etc.
      The other part of my trip includes 2 days in Zermatt and 1 day in Lucerne before I head to Zurich and fly out from there.
