I miss the sound of Detroits. I liked working on them. What I don't miss, is carrying one end of a 6-71 head up the spiral staircase of a Hatteras motoryacht. 30 years of turning wrenches and I feel it. Those 53s are screamers with the straight lobed blowers. Didn't see a lot of 2-53s, mostly 6V53N and 8V53N in boats. Even a few 6V53TIs.
Found this 1958 Detroit 2-53 in a junk yard and dragged it home.:) Took two years of scrounging up the parts to make it whole again , what a hoot to operate.:)
@@gcrauwels941They are pretty high performance 2 strokes! Im using 6 gallons of XD-100 BRP etec oil in my 8v92, i get it at walmart! Klotz techniplate is a ripoff!
Great videos, you've already got quite the following, congratulations! 🥳🥳🥳 Time and energy permitting of course I would like to request you create a video specifically comparing cummins vs detroit diesel engines, and another (or the same) in which you tell us about the different DD engines; this coming from at least one fan who is very interested, but does not know too much about these matters. ... and many thanks in advance if you're able to oblige 🙏🙏🙏
I don't do this for hire, but only work on my own equipment. I have plenty of video's rebuilding both the 4-53T, 353T and 2-53. They're very easy engines to rebuild if you have any time on other engines. Here's my playlist: www.youtube.com/@detroitgarage9430/playlists
May try to get in touch with Scott Crosby. He's here in the Mid TN area and is another 2-Stroke DD guru. I don't know his contact specifics, but his CZcams channel is called Bus Grease Monkey.
Super cool! I think Detroit 2 strokes are pretty rare. I have been wrenching for 20 years and never once have I seen any form of a screaming jimmy up close. I remember hearing them in city buses when I was young but that's about it! I would love to see a modern high performance 2 stroke with common rail injection etc... It would be a great engine to use my turbine powered turbocharger idea on.
They're pretty rare, but may have a comeback with Achates Apposed Piston Diesel. If you haven't seen or heard of them, worth a look as they're a really nice common rail engine with after treatment. I daily drive Silver 4-53T swapped 2009 F350 with just over 50,000 miles now. Not for everyone but I certainly enjoy it.:) Here's the video.:) czcams.com/video/v-WQ32fafE8/video.html
Yes you are, and doing a fine job of it too... I love how that 253 sounds, even better with that straight pipe exhaust... I bet your neighbors just love hearing that thing...
Awesome that you are going to start the Diamond T project! Also, I saw this video on Facebook of a RAM Promaster with bad camshafts on its engine and I was thinking that would be a great Detroit swap. What can you fit in a Promaster?

I got a silver 8v92 to tinker with. The only 2 stroke jimmy's today are the 850 snowmobile engines
@@jlo13800 Did a lot of marine 8V, 12V, and 16V-92TABs in boats. Neat engines when you understand them.

Thanks, yes the site is slowly growing and there's an interest in the old Detroits.:) I'll have a think on that and make a video of the differences.:)
@@detroitgarage9430 absolutely looking forward to your next videos; thank you so much for producing and sharing them 😊
coolest engine swap i have seen in awhile. Never had to wear earplugs when running a fork lift before.
Thanks, it's a hoot to operate.:)
It won’t be long until you’re saying I put this 253 in here years ago!!!
Very true, time flies when you're having fun.:)
I have a Detroit 4 53 in a Franklin skidder. What would you charge to rebuild it. And let me watch and learn. I am in Middle TN

5:40 it feels like you're starting a mission in vice city
Love it, it sort of does.:)

Lol, they're warming up to it. I keep the big moves for the weekends when no one is around.:)
LOL, the title is pretty funny. Now if you could convert noise into fuel you really have something. :)
Lol, pretty accurate.:) This is the loudest Jimmy I've every been around.:) I'll eventually have to put a muffler and intake silencer on it.:)
Sound great.Nice to see you working in the Diamond T
I'm really excited to get going on it, been eyeing that one far too long.:)
Spot on!🇺🇸👊🏻
I doubt you will run over anyone with that forklift. It could rattle deaf people’s bones lol.
LOl, true. Would wake the dead.:)
Awesome that you are going to start the Diamond T project! Also, I saw this video on Facebook of a RAM Promaster with bad camshafts on its engine and I was thinking that would be a great Detroit swap. What can you fit in a Promaster?
Depending on the room in the engine bay a 3/4-53 might fit. All depends on the height and length of the engine bay.:)
Don't need a backup alarm! 😂
Lol, very true.:)
MAN! Thank you for this, I love hearing this thing sing, what rpm is she governed at?
You're welcome, I've got it set to 2150.:) Had it at 2300 for the dyno, but 2150 is fine for what I'm doing.:)
The 4-53 in the Oliver 1950 was 115 horses at the flywheel. Is that a 57ish horsepower forklift now?
No, it's more around the 40 HP range with L40 injectors. Depending on injector size anywhere from 32 to 60HP.
What no back alarm! :)
Lol.:)
First lol
Did you ever watch the video I maid of the 453 loader that stalls at idel
Yes, I replied to your video you posted. It runs really nice, just have to set the idle higher. Confirm the idle spring and end plunger are free.:)
Ok should I take the top off the governor and check the plungers inside are free ,and if they are ,ajust the scrue under that cap
@@user-iw2ij8oj1e Yes that's a good idea.:) Yes, once confirmed then put the lid back on and then adjust idle screw.
who says fork lifts cant be awesome ))
Lol, very true.:)
do you have snow plowing contract for the warehouse compound you are in?
Yes, there's a company contracted to snow plow.:) They've had it for the last 5-7 years.:)
