The Key to Strikers in Football Manager

  • The most important position in soccer or football is the forward. They make the most money, the tactics are built around them, they score the goals and they have the coolest hair. Football Manager is no different, except for maybe the hair part, FM and the Newgan facepack are still trying to figure that part out. This video goes over every forward role so you can take advantage of your striker’s attributes to dominate in any type of tactic.
    As with my video about fullbacks, this video uses a bunch of examples! You can see how the different roles play and where those types of players will end up. These are incredibly fun FM videos to make, they do take time, but I feel like they provide a lasting positive impact on the whole football manager community, being able to understand tactics and roles more intimately. This is the sort of tactical breakdown I will come back and watch sometimes to make sure I still am thinking about football manager stuff the right way, so enjoy!

      @@youssefremy6173 I know this is an old comment but running a defensive winger with a really strong attacking fullback can work not bad. It helps cover the gaps an overlapping full back can have in the event of a turnover, I have only ever ran it out of a 4-4-2 however so limited sample size. I found it works well at lower table teams if you have a weaker defence that is getting mulched on counters.

      @@M8cool Fm20, not very original but I wanted to go with a 4-3-3 highpressing. BBM-BWM-DLP, FBs (crossing from deep) and finally RMD-PF-W. The PF had as very good CD high aerial stats, overall good physicals and some crazy agression/teamwork right from the start (he was a newgen) technic was on 12 too so he was somehwat decent at passing. By training him as PF in about 5-6 years he developed as a good passer holding the ball and using the speed of the wingers to get assistances, with experience he got notorious in composure and off the ball too. With ocasional headers the lad was an absolute leader in the frontline as a mix between Target man/PF/F9. Built the team around him also focusing less in quality (the only decent passer was the DLP) and focusing on speed, workrate, stamina, teamwork and tackling (high aggression in DM and FBS too) in defense and midfield. I've basically done the same this year but with Moukoko as F9 (got the lad on a free as Dortmund didnt want to improve his contract ha!). Team is rock solid in defense and hitting on the counter.

      @08Rolling Před 3 lety +25

      PS: Of course his weakest was his utter lack to carry the ball and finishing and overall flair, however he enabled attacks and allowed direct play with long kicks from the GK making the RMD in particular bang an average of 20-30 goals per season (1st Spanish Division) with the W over 10-20.

    I tend to play a very aggressive inside-foward style where the Striker is more there to disrupt and facilitate for the wide men cutting inside. Pressing forward is my jam!
    I also tend to not have the big bad 30-goal-a-season striker but more of "modern-day-Ajax" mentality where we have BY FAR the most teamgoals but not a single player in the top5 goalscorers.

  • @krupp_stalingrad
    @krupp_stalingrad Před 3 lety +37

    I think Pressing Forwards are one of the better striker roles. It also depends on your formation and style of play, but they offer so much defensive effort, especially in a two-striker-system that a high pressing is very effective. On attacking they tend to do similar things on and off the ball as an Advanced Forward and on support they also drop off like a Target Man oder a Deep Lying Forward. So maybe Pressing Forward is a little bit underrated.

    It doesn't matter who I play or what role I always struggle with ym strikers, my wingers are normally my top scorers by some distance. So far in my 4th season at arsenal I've had lacazette, auba, nketiah, martinelli, calvert-lewin, duro, jesus, muokoko & a saucy regen signed from barca but hes more for the future. Obviously changing them around won't help but they all had decent runs in the team, muokoko and jesus and my 2 now with martinelli covering lw or St in cup games but the rest have all been just dreadful being outscored by pepe despite him being 2nd choice and even Nelson in the 2nd season.
    Fun fact muokoko joined in January and scored more than double between then and the end of the season than dcl managed in a full season including europa league group stage

    I just wanted to share my personal most successful striker ever, Timo Werner as a Complete Foward in attack in FM19 with Liverpool. IDK why, but he gets 60+ goals and 10+ assist per season without playing for Germany, He got 81 goals in 62 games in his third season.
    The weird part is that my friends also tried to use him and Timo failed them like irl lol
    And to be clear, even without Firmino, Mane, Bruno Fernandes (it is a wild save as every save with a big club), etc, facilitating for him (And Salah being Salah, except for 1 season with 25+ assists), He keeps scoring at an impossible rate.

    Zealand, how do Inside forwards interact with a play-making/attacking forwards? For my standard formation I play a 4-2-3-1, with an IF on the left, a W on the right and an AF as my striker. I find consistent that my IF scores more goals than my AF.

      @snaggiz Před 2 lety +2

      I’ve had the same problem. I need to look into it more so this is by no means guaranteed, but I reckon IF actually starves the AF of supply because he’s looking to finish more on his own, leaving AF to go chasing for rebounds or deep outlet passes. Starting to think that maybe getting a play making forward could work better with these types of wingplayers because while I do love the overload it can create in the penalty area, it often feels like the striker does absolutely nothing because he’s trying to feed himself off of scraps.

    • @makchot3263

    Can Trequartista work next to Poacher? I was thinking the Treq moves into channels, drags defenders away, plays killer balls, the Poacher stays central and feeds off the chances. But both offer no pressing and don't help the midfield.

    Poacher took me forever to combine properly. He really needs either Messi Hollywood throughballs or a lot of people pushing up with him in the box. Trying to play him as an AF who doesn't dribble ranged from poor to average at best. Inside forwards/Striker partners on attack/midfielders on attack with him and all of a sudden he kept finding himself unmarked in the box for sneaky tap ins out of nowhere. Because he doesn't dribble, he'd also often receive and play in a free runner inside the box while being triple marked himself.

    Hello everyone, I am currently struggling with my strikers. I do play a 5-3-2, with a CM on Attacking and a Mezzala in the Midfield. My defence is insane, but I don’t get the goals. I want to have a creative striker and a goalscorer. So they do get supported by 3 and a half other players. I play Tiki Taka, which roles would be good for my strikers?
