    Who could resist peeking inside such a mysterious box? Hidden in the ramshackle a of an old Scottish castle, the antique chest was hefty, dusty and large. In fact, you would need both hands just to lift its giant, creaking lid. So what was inside? Why, untold secrets and intrigue, of course.
    Documenting the discoveries in photos and videos for imgur and CZcams, our intrepid explorer here goes by the online name of “annesrat” (though she is also known as “lumpytuna” on reddit). Interestingly, the castle where she found the chest, which she once described as “tumbledown” and “cold but beautiful,” has been in her family’s possession since the 14th century.

    Awesome video. If I ever found any thing like that I'd immediately give it to a museum, where it could be properly checked out and taken care of. They're priceless pieces of history!!

    The green glass is for reading of maps, when the sun was to bright. It was hard to read the maps. But with the aid of shaded glass it made it possible to see it better. My father had one with his navigation equipment. It was passed through family and he was a navigator in the army and taught me. To read maps by nautical will the lines, the degrees, north, south, east, west, where the shipping lanes, were the depths, and shallow rock was, there's a lot. Also how to read the Stars along with it. If you know where certain stars are you'll never get lost. If you always, remember your water always flows north to south.

    The battle plans of the American Revolution had to have been after the war was over. If they were from the time of the war We were not yet called Americans. It would of more than likely read Rebel forces under command of Washington had it been from the time of the war. England didn't recognize us as Americans yet So the things must be from a long line of military persons in the family add to over the years by several men

    That must be a strange castle...to have an attic.

    • @brlarson78
      @brlarson78 Před 5 lety +2

      Not all castles are the same. Some look more like thick-walled chateaus, while others are more traditional looking.
      Castles that have stayed with families for many generations have often been modified - especially in the living quarters area. Some rooms were made smaller, others opened up and more fireplaces added, etc. Not infrequently, an attic (or two or three for different areas) was added; sometimes for storage, and sometimes a dormer or two were put into them for servant’s quarters.

    Omg I'm a button collector!!

    • @brlarson78
      @brlarson78 Před 5 lety

      Ramona Ray I doubt those are cloth buttons. They look more like patches with examples of different guild designs. In some areas of England, Scotland, France etc., the local guilds had no small amount of influence. There were (and still are) Guildhalls, Guild Societies, and often a fine carved and painted sign on the road entering into the town or village, announcing which guilds could be found in town. Each guild member had his own design, suggesting his business. Some designs were standardized, and others more personal to a unique merchant’s business.
      These stitched badges with their fine designs weren’t necessarily worn every day, but were certainly worn for special town or national occasions. A guildsman was a respected member of society.
      Old guild badges can be found all over Europe; there was a good collection in the Swiss National Museum.
      BTW, by the 17th century, most buttons were being made of wood, bone, or metal, not cloth.

    Holy shit, her family OWNS the castle? Museums will gladly pay top dollar
    for these antiquities.
    All I found in my grandmother's atttic were
    stacks of seedy, vintage men's magazines from the late 60's/early 70's.
    "Oui"--"Cherry"--"Club"
    "High Sociey"
    Bound in cheap newsprint, VERY bad photography (every layout has this nauseating, colorized sepia look.) And "WTF" models??...SERIOUSLY unnatractive females with bad skin, dirty feet, & hideous make-up...
    the bad graphics didn't help either. Woof.

      StopListenThink Read that letter over again; “when first he saw her”, her lovely form, he has been thinking of her, longs to be with her, and seeks some relief, etc. Yup, if I’d gotten s letter like that when in my teens, I’d be thinking “Oh my, I need to send off military supplies”? For the first page at least, I see (and feel) a letter of long-suffering love, sprinkled with flattery and confessions of his agony when away from her. For the “good old days” of the 16th and 17th century, that sounds like a love letter, and certainly something a girl of those days would keep.

    • @insertnamehere2635
      @insertnamehere2635 Před 5 lety

      @@brlarson78 is possible it was a letter for help. In case the letter was intercepted do you think there going to be all" hey man send troops to my location its, here coordinates listed" ummm no they send coded letters like this so if it is infiltrated they won't know immediately what it is and hopefully they would be like you and just say oh it's a love letter. They still to this day send coded messages. You have to think of the time these were written. That didnt sound like a love letter to me either. Not truly with how they used to speak in that era. I believe more of a coded message of some kind as well. I would not want a love letter like that. You would give me relief? Really, sounds rather perverse if used in context to a love letter. Even for that time. A letter of lust would be more like it , if not what it most likely is, a code.
