Backyard Shifter Kart Goes Airborne on First Test Drive!

- We take our home made shifter kart on its first test drive! This isn't how to build a shifter kart in the traditional sense- this is a DIY shifter go kart. We took a transmission from a badly blown up Yamaha Blaster engine, and adapted it to run with a Tillotson 225 racing go kart engine. In today's episode, we don't full send the go kart, but we do get a taste of this go kart's performance, and it's fast!
Thanks for Watching!

can we just appreciate having Charles full time this guy is a perfect addition to the show
I need something like this in my life. Just got the solid axel yard kart frame. THE BUILD BEGINS!!!
Look into Cyclekarts...
Post yer build on CZcams.
@@wjpreslar mine is
We're pushing the power limits of the yard kart chassis!
Ike quote of the year, "Don't do what we do, now hold my beer!"
Princess cart?
Ya think? 😂
I have a go-kart idea I'd like to share with one of you guys for your build off
Definitely that chassis was flexing alot. Wonder how much it can take? 😅
Charles just earned his spot in my mind as the bravest of the three. OMFG! Wet conditions too lol! crazy dude.
First the haltec and now this!? Good job, guys. I like where you're headed.
THE MACHINE!!
Bert looks great!
It is so much better with a transmission, it is way more interesting to watch too! Impressive! This is one of my favorite builds...
Always thought a small 4speed box on carts would make all the difference.now if someone can sell us one they be making a good amount of sales!
Wow I'm really impressed with how well it worked with a crankshaft driving another crankshaft.
Whenever you need to weld on or near a gas tank you can drop a chunk of dry ice in it and the co2 will displace all of the air and fuel vapors.
I’ve always wondered what the limits of the pump-style engines are and a dog box transmissions is definitely the key to that. If I have the time, money and knowledge I’d love to make a proper transmission setup for one using the gearset from an atv or something and probably a custom crankcase cover/transmission housing system
I think this is one of the coolest builds you’ve done yet and man does this thing have a lot of potential! Can’t wait to see this once you get all the bugs worked out and the course is a little more rideable. Great work guys.👍🏼🤩❤️
Badass I thought about doing something like this years ago but never pulled the trigger you guys did it flawlessly I love it great job
I kinda wish it had a real clutch and direct gear to gear on the motor and transmission instead of the centrifugal clutch on the Tillotson tho its still really cool
One of the best things about using a second case as a transmission is the MANUAL CLUTCH! Personally, I would have hooked it up direct between engines and use the blaster clutch. Even a stockish engine will feel MUCH faster with the control of a manual clutch!
Would love to drivee that one. Back in the mid 60's I had a go kart that had a little 3 1/2 horse Briggs. Straight drive, no brakes. My dad paced me in the 61 Rambler at about 67 MPH, man I loved that thing.
When I saw you setting up that shifter I thought you were going to go with paddle shifters but what you got works too.
Man oh man we need to see a top speed run at the airport for this one!
You guys are making giant leap for mankind doing something that everyone only dreams about
Gotta do the new Rock Paper Scissors Lizzard Spock.
bazinga
It's like you guys just steal these ideas out of my head lol, love seeing it done though especially by my favorite channel on CZcams, I've been watching your channel for almost 6 years now
Funny that I did this exact same thing back in the early 2000’s when I was 16. Used a kx80 motor and a 10hp Briggs powering it. But I did a direct drive to the transmission and used its clutch. Also it worked out great having an up and down gear shift on my left side. All in a big off-road kart with 4 wheeler rear tires.
I love that shifter setup. Simple and effective. That thing is gonna move when you get the bugs worked out.
That was great guys, time amongst friends is the best way to have fun. 😀
Awesome videos that bring back memories of my go-cart, mini bike times in the 80s.
We need more of the shifter kart. Build a second one, go head to head.
WOO HOO! you guys always make the best craziest projects, I love it
It,s a fine build - scary fast and maybe even faster when your track dries out.
That's awesome! I'm working on a 1978 rear engine sleeper Murray lawnmower that goes 80mph! Bring back the lawnmower!!!
Charles is a firefighter!!!???
He was kidding
@@isaacitllbefine7231 I figured....
Love the vids guys Been watching for a long time I’m now 17 and you guys have motivated me to start my own build and to build up pit bikes thanks you so much for the entertainment and the knowledge that you guys pass in your videos
You guys are still the kings of karting. Great build. That thing GOES.
That's how i shift on mine and it's really fast. My wife she has one also and she loves it. Ours is lifted higher about 5 inch's off the ground cause we go trail riding all the time. We can switch from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive easy. But to take it out of 4 wheel drive u gotta back up a few inch's. The youngest son he has his RZR and he loves it. We have one and we go mudding all the time. I had a good friend of mine put a suspension lift kit on it and my wife was like WTH it's higher. She can easy get in and out of it good.
What go cart do you have that’s 4 wheel drive?
Epic ride you guys made Happy New years to y'all
That thing seems like it has more than 25 HP. Probably has impressive torque too and even a good top end, You guys designed this very well.
I suggest getting a decent quality rain suit to wear during wet riding times. Keeps you dry and warm!
Any OIL inside the case for the bearings?Looked Fun as heck.( Fen-Ders) If the shifter rocked,1 side Up-shift,other Down, instead of push-pull.A double- L across for fingertips.?Edit=Paddle shifting, but as a rocker.
We do have oil in it
You should fill the case.
@@isaacitllbefine7231 hi Ike. I hope yall had a great Christmas.
That’s a great paddle rocker idea
@@isaacitllbefine7231 yall should clean this up. also this also has me tempted to do this over a juggernaut pulley
A Jeb certified power shifting machine right there !
This is revolutionary. We’re gonna see a lot of guys using blown up sport quad/dirt bike engines and converting them to transmissions
i remember when you guys hit 10k now you got 1mil much love
Great stuff guys thanks. Happy New Year!
Very cool to see the blaster transmission used with that motor. Nice work guys 👏
Let's see that Opal GT!
Not much to see! It's mostly Swiss cheese! 😆
Coming soon
Love them, quite rare now,
Agreed- we need a restoration series lol
@@WyFoster They came from the factory that way hahahaha
Good to see Charles out there enjoying the fruits of his labor's 👍
i remember when you guys built that “delorean”. That series was what got me into your channel, i haven’t stopped since.
Now you need to take the engine and trans setup and put it in a full suspension kart and you’ll see what it’s really capable of.
Hoping you guys the best for 2023 can't wait to see some of the projects I heard y'all talk about... Rock on! Happy holidays
I have thought of something like this too! I am glad to see that you guys have done it. Next one needs to have reverse on it.
Holy Sheeeeet that thing rips! Props for him having the stones to send it, too!
John sure is good at throttle control, it shows in many videos.
God bless you guy's for providing good clean fun!
Well done guys....great inventions
Loved it guys looks real fast lots of potential.
Well you’ve done it again. Good job guys
Omg that kart is awesome! I had no idea that setup was possible.
Bad ass cart guys!!
Bro. Y'all gotta get ol Charles a full-face helmet, half helmet will have your jaw ripped slap off. We want y'all around.
Could this mean C&C is shifting into a new gear for the New Year! I'll go with Ike's take- "that thing is fast". As is, in the dry, that has to be a top ten or so cart! FR
Well said Fred!
@@kevinsellsit5584 It was a cheap shot from the "cheap seats" and someone had to make it! I'm out of excuses, may I be excused now? fr
That kart hauls the mail!!!!
You are giving it a column shifter neat.
That thing is fast, Charles was movin!!!
wowww!!!! that thing rips!!! nice job!
What a ripper! Awesome way to make use of what would otherwise be a scrap 2-stroke. The "dry time" on this kart will be directly proportional to the ⚽⚽ on the driver.
What an epic yard kart boys. So much fun
Great job guys!
Nice! Glad to see it worked out so well!
That was an EXCELLENT episode! I really enjoy watching you guys flying around your track. Now I kind of want to go back and see what the hell the lawn dart was.
Happy and Safe New Year to all of you who make these crazy awesome cars!
That thing sounds amazing i have always thought how cool these mini bike motors would be with gears
Soon if not already you guys will have a fleet of Go Karts that you can just take out and go for a cruise all together. I would kill to have the chance to do that with my friends.
Awesome kart!!! Keep it up
Love the video guys...Your stuff is very cool and quite creative. you guys knocked out of the park on this one again I like your new shop its pretty cool and your new helper is awesome too yall are great. happy holidays and a great new year it would be great to see a best of 2022 highlights on the challenges youve overcome... Love your show im 57 great job guys Cheers
Much respect fellas! Great build.
Great job been watching you guys for a hot minute and working on a similar idea to this hope to be able to show you something one day
You guys should use a box blade and a tractor to grade that stretch of the driveway the Charles was ripping down.
That looks really fun.
Didn’t know Charles was a volunteer fireman🥺 Charles is just an overall good guy. He’s grown on me.
Me too. Wasn't sure at first but I can't imagine C&C without him now.
He was kidding
@@isaacitllbefine7231 HAHAHA
It's utterly fearless Charles lol
What's up fellas always good to see you guys post ready to watch the video under 20 for comments whoop whoop
Mud guards is a must with that one. Great build!
A buddy of mine build a go-kart with a built 2 stroke 750 Kawasaki triple. He took it to a drag strip and it ran a 9.6 second quarter mile and he never got into 5th gear.
awesome project
I rode motocross for longer than Charles has been alive. You only need a clutch twice in a race. At the start line, and at the finish line.
agree
Awesome video guys
Cool build 😎
Run exhaust fumes thru a hose into the tank and that will get rid of any gas fumes left in a tank after draining it and flushing it with water. I have welded up alot of motorcycle tanks in the past and have never had one problem what so ever. Love your guys channel!
Just a heads up some people may be getting unsubscribed from your channel by youtube. Just have people double check as you guys deserve all the subs you can get! Love you guys and all that you do.
Hell yeah guys free video Charlie Western PA 👍👍
Dude this is effing awesome it’s my favorite so far with the torque converter and the manual it’s like the old gallardo’s with the flappy paddle gear box and when you put the clutch on it it’s gonna be like the tt vipers with the sequential transmission lol
Love your videos keep it up
Bloody hell thats fast!
Another great video guys 👍. This Old Man from Washington NC enjoying it with my coffee. Once you finish the additions it's going to be awesome. Love you guys. 🛵🧔💝💝💝
Happy your still with us!
Amazing!
these are my fav conditions. Wet , over powered and bouncy as heck.
Charles :” the one two shift ahhh haaa haaa!!!!!!”😂😂
Very good ... excelente, me gustaría hacer uno tambien 👍👍💪
This is probably one of the better concepts fellas. My belief the centrifugal clutch is saving the engine from a certain demise. Once you go direct and try using the clutch it's more likely to break the crank or the rod. With that said and your willing to test it I'm willing to watch. Happy New Year and best of luck 👍
Here’s an idea for future builds. Make paddle shifters using cable. Run the cable through the chassis to the main shift rod. Run up/down shift cable out either side of a pivot on the rod. Just a thought so you can shift without letting go of the wheel.
You guys are living my dream, just keep livin man….L I V I N! Lol
The look on Charles’s face in the thumbnail says it all 😂
Cool seeing you gys try new hhings
im sure others have done tis as well i know chris from ratherbwelding did this years ago
Time to bring back the 200cc purple shifter kart for a head to head on a track race kart with medium power VS high power sketchy yard kart
I think yall are on to something using that bottom end for the transmission. That thing MOVES.
