Nobody does it better than Brian, had him build a transmission for me for an excursion over 10 years ago, when it got a leaky TQ he offered to rebuild the whole thing again I just needed to buy a TQ and he would do all the work and consider it "warranty work" world class guy.
I don’t need to but so want to have him build my trans in my 2000 F350 and it’s already a built John Woods trans
Brian has one of the best reputations for 4r100 transmissions. Good choice.
Yes he does. Great guy who really knows his stuff.
I went there in 2008 and spent the day watching Brian rebuild my transmission. It was a great experience. The whole crew there are just great people! My transmission still shifts great. I also don't put anything but Shaffer's synthetic fluid in it and motocraft filters when I service it.
Definitely a fun experience and Brian is top notch. Hope we get to go back for another someday. Thanks for watching.
Hell of a shop and mechanic . I grew up around my grandpa rebuilding transmissions in the boot hills of Missouri and a lot of people travel distances just like you did and to get good honest work and we can’t find solid honest trans world near Memphis area . Keep the videos coming and maybe get the 250 you drive in Brian’s shop and get the trans built up in it .
Great video. things have changed a bit since i went back in 06/07 IIRC. We stayed in a cabin at the lake, I don't think the place is there anymore. Brian used to have the customer over to his place but that was before my visit. We enjoyed it so much, we ended up staying the week there.
I run 250/100's and run my truck pretty hard. Never an issue with my tranny to this day.
Brian and his crew were top notch. Very small friendly town, hard to find people like that in most places.
I'm not looking forward to when he has to retire, hopefully his son will take over but his son had his own business in the next town over back then. So much to say but will leave it at that. Definitely worth the wait, or worst case have it shipped. Brian will work with some shops/ dealers or have it shipped to them if you can't do the swap yourself.
My 7.3 is currently in the shop getting a transmission. Super pumped about it and have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Brian and his crew.
That’s why we decided to make a video of our experience. There wasn’t much to find on CZcams or the internet, as far as the hospitality, the cleanliness and neatness of the shop and the quality of work. We talked with Brian before making the trip explaining our CZcams channel and that we weren’t out to steal any of his secrets just wanted to show the overall experience and quality of his work. And I feel that the video showed it. Thanks for watching.
Finally great video on BTS and their transmissions. I will be giving them a call on Monday.
They’re great and that’s why I was so pumped to make a video on their quality and hospitality.
What an awesome experience.
Hopefully I can get this mess cleaned up, and Miss Tina and Brian will still have me.
Congrats Troy,
-Troy
Brian and his wife and the whole shop crew are truly one of a kind. The only thing that would have made it better was if I could have turned some wrenches with Brian.
Well I bought one of their transmissions 4. R 100 for my 2006 ram, One of their full billet transmissions and Was totally impressed with the way it performed in my Dodge, it is a 1080 horsepower at the tires with 35/12-50., And it will do 50 mile per hour burnouts on demand, My truck is a daily driver, Is with compound turbos, And 150% over injectors, my wife takes my grandkids to school in this truck and it drives perfectly.... Just put it in drive, And 4 will drive, and hang on to the stirring wheel it does everything flawlessly... Faster than my sportbike, and is absolutely insane.... And for all you 48re guys I never thought it would hold up in four wheel drive with the power that I make it's absolutely crazy, i do not have a crazy shifter, I just put it in D.... BTS transmissions are awesome!!!
Thanks for the comment. BTS is awesome.
Had mine in my early 99 for just over 10 years. Has never had an issue.
I have a John woods in my personal 2000 7.3 it’s great but I wish I had a BTS cause Brian really knows his stuff.
Thanks for the video. I had a BTS in my old 7.3 and have nothing but great things to say. Wish I could have made the trip.
Thanks for commenting, Brian and his family are great there at BTS.
Very cool to see the experience at BTS ! I hear they're one of the best. Also Ive seen over 200*F on my trans temp before, on my stock trans here in California when its 110 degrees outside just driving normally! shows how weak the stock trans cooler is haha. Awesome video!
It was a fun experience. Thanks for watching.
best ford trans money can buy, and it's the ONLY one on the planet that's guaranteed for the life of the original owner....have had one in my Stage II 1997 F350 4X4 Crew 7.3 for 8 years, and I pull a total of 21,000 lbs with it....never a problem.....Brian's is the Boss Hog.....
It’s not 😂trust me
Man, my install was scheduled for the 19th of July. . . . .
Needless to say, I wasn't there. :|
O snap, I hear Tina. Such a sweet lady. Don't get folks like that back here. Makes me feel like a heel.

12 13 years ago my 2002 Ford f250 powerstroke diesel which is very hard worked however very well maintained I was backing out of my driveway and it shuttered it vibrated horribly when I put it in reverse and accelerated out of my driveway. Transmission. I was fully prepared to get BTS to do the transmission and spoke to Brian in person on the phone he never rushed me. He said do me a favor change the filter on the transmission. He goes I believe that will fix your problem. And that man was 101% correct and my friends I have put $60,000 miles on that truck since then I have $190,000 miles on that truck
Bran is that kind of guy, genuine and honest. That’s the kind of guy I strive to be also and the kind of guy you want working on your truck. It was a pleasure hanging out with him and his crew the day we went. Thanks for watching.
I wanted a BTS. Went through 4 automatics in 3 years. Tried calling Brian 3 of those times. Left messages and never got a call back. Just swapped to a zf6. Couldn't be happier.
Zfs are cool and fun and have their place but aren’t much for trucks throwing down some power. Thanks for watching
@@AutomedicGarage I'm just under 500 hp. The auto is faster for sure, but I couldn't get anyone to build me a tough enough one. This zf6 is built and should last forever. Enjoyed the video.
@@emersontayten I have a John woods in my current 7.3. It’s a great trans also however I want a BTS whenever I require another.
@@emersontayten no will not last for ever not even close
Same over it ! Just junk
Ive Run a BTS e4od for 10 years. But i had it shipped. Wish i woulda went down there but its a long way from Buffalo
Awesome experience
Wish I could get my 7.3 to shift perfect and not cut-out
Well, my BTS transmission went out 3 years ago, after 140k miles of use....
So, I called Brian, and he said he would take care of it, "IF" I paid for the freight both ways....$750....Unfortunately he could only do it for me in 10 weeks... That is what I was told...Then I'd still have to pay a shop for R & R of about $500....
Rather than wait 10 weeks , I just went with a standard Re-Manf Ford transmission, and had it done in 3 days....Paid $3000 complete...
I've got a Y2K-X, and I'm on my 3rd transmission with 250K miles...
I knew before I purchased my Excursion that the transmission was the week spot, but did want to go with a PU truck just to get a manual transmission...
15 years and the truck is still running strong....
I guess that's the price you pay !!!!
BTS is the best out there, you could have just pulled it yourself in a couple hours, not much to it. And 10 weeks ain’t bad for a booked up shop. I have people coming to me for much simpler things after waiting months at other shops. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I had to send mine back 3 time ! Everyone he sent me would not shift then he made me pay for Sara shift solenoids. Can I install them myself lasted 4000 miles broke again
Yeah ive always heard good things about brians truck shop and his builds , i heard good stuff about john. woods transmissions too. If u put a tripledisc billet converter and do all the upgrades in the valve bodys and use good quality clutches then i think the 4r100 is a great transmission. Ohh and a big bigger trans cooler and a temp gauge is a must!
I am in a similar situation. I have the Hydra with Titan unlock. 180/30 with KC stage 1 turbo. The transmission only lasted a month. The shifts became very soft and started shuttle shifting traveling at highway speeds. Can I ask what tunes you ended up with? I have contacted BTS but they are currently scheduling out till December. I am concerned that if I install an out-of-box transmission it will not last. Nice Video
They were Brian’s custom tunes we loaded onto the hydra.
You still happy with the bts now you've had it for some time. I can't decide which tranny I wanna go with. Really leaning toward bts
Still love this transmission. I’ve had zero issues and it shifts great. Temps always stay cool too.
18:03 my dream of how I want my truck to shift
Do you have to run a tune for that trans? I’m in ca and can run my hydra but take it out for smog tests.
You don’t have to. It’s built to up the line pressure on its own. A lot of times a tune will make it slam when it shifts if the tune modifies the line pressure.
@@AutomedicGarage ok that’s what I thought. Thank you!
in 4r100 ford cut some corners with the updates is one of best tranny
Yep, torque converter is the number 1 weak link, the inner drum cracking, weak line pressure just the name a couple.
How much did the bill come to? My truck is ready
It was north of 5k with fluid and 6.0 cooler. Call or email BTS and they will give you the details. They are very friendly and kind and willing to answer any questions you have.
What lift and tires are on that truck?
It’s the rancho 3.5 and 35s
I just installed my transmission from Brian. What did he do to break it in? I saw he was running the truck while it was on the jack. How long would you say he did it for? Rpms? Thanks for the awesome video! They were a pleasure to do business with
He ran it in first second and third and reverse shifting manually. Did that a few times then let it shift through the gears on its own a couple times. That was mainly to purge air out of the system. Then we installed some custom tunes on the hydra and took it for a good 20 min test ride. They use schafers trans fluid so I would make sure you use that also. They are top notch and great people. It was truly a honor to meet Brian in person.
@@AutomedicGarage just got some shaeffers in the mail this week! Thank you for the reply
@@AutomedicGarage just got a BTS in on the jack now and would appreciate a deeper description of the air purging. I understand going through the gears manually, question would be how long each gear, what RPM. I going to do it regardless but it will be appreciated knowing something
@@jasonmorris2813 i was a good 10 minutes of going through all the gears. Then driving it easy on the road test for 10-15 min
@@AutomedicGarage just what I needed, thanks for the response. Be safe out there in the whirl
Does BTS have a you tube page ?
No that’s why they have my video up on their page
Guy says full length splined drums are not better then touts the forged drum with full length splines???? ....🤔
Full length CAST splines crack….he was referring to the factory full length splined drums that were here and there…..he’s not just a guy he’s the man….the 4r100 man….anyone who can give a lifetime warranty on a transmission and tell you you can do whatever you want with your truck has got it figured out. Brian is top notch for sure.
Wish I could find a place with this reputation near me in Oregon. 😏
John woods in California is great. That’s what’s in my truck
@@AutomedicGarage john woods is out of business
@@AutomedicGarage right now my transmission is ready for rebuild, im in san diego ca. and is very hard to find a good transmission shop, transmission its ready to ship it, brian don't answer the phone o emails, john wood out, its a nightmare
truck is seating in my house for 2 weeks, any suggestions
@@victorgranados3276 may have been from Memorial Day week they live on the lake and enjoy it as we do also. His wife is who usually answers the phone. Do t give up on him. They are good a out answering emails also.
@@victorgranados3276 what number did you call for John wood.
Why’s he scared to go over 55?
He was worried cause it was starting to slip
Bryan full of shit full splines are way stronger. Half splines strip .full splines split because they can hold the power so the weaker cast forward drum cracks instead if stripping splines. Cmon now ford been using full splines for 40 years in c6 and e4od. Full splines good up to 450hp.
If Brian was full of it I don’t think he’d have people scheduled a year out and driving cross country for his work or giving a lifetime warranty on his transmissions but if you think he is, your entitled to your opinion. I’d put his up against my John woods transmission in my 2000 7.3 anyway. Thanks for watching and commenting.
