I can't wait to purify myself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.😁
"That ain't Lake Minnetonka"
Funny, because it was.
@@watercraftjournal I was making a Purple Rain reference in response to the original comment. Hence the quotation marks.
Looks like a pretty lake.
Game. Blouses.
Like always you knocked it out of the park with this review. Thanks Kevin for going above and beyond to bring us the information we want and need
Appreciated!
So cool. Love the handle bar steering and modern look. Not to mention the various configurations you can pull off
Very configurable!
Great video Kevin. I’m so jealous of your job!
Thanks! 👍
Finally... great review. You addressed all my concerns and which one was the best combo. Thank you
Glad it helped!
Finally a good review. Nice job!
Glad you liked it!
Best review out there for the Switch
Ty
Appreciated!
Really great video, I can’t wait to get mine!
Hope you enjoy it!
New to boating, so I’ve watched MANY of the CZcams videos on the Sea Doo Switch, which has piqued my interest. Many good videos out there on this game changing design, but yours is by far the most informative and professionally done video I’ve seen yet. You’ve got me completely sold on the Sea Doo. Well done! 👍🏻
Awesome, thank you!
We’re newbies and starting our journey did you move forward with this one?
I’ve decided to go with a Land Yacht instead…bought a Class A Motorhome!
Great option for out-to-sea novel writing. 📚
Go to it, Hemingway!
I love all of them🤩
Cool!
Great content, appreciate you sharing. Looks like y’all had a blast testing! Seadoo may have themselves another great product out on the market.
Billy D
Most definitely!
Awesome video, really like the fact you show moving the seats, complete view of both SC / NA motors and reviewed all models at idle and moving at full speeds. The one thing I can say is at 7:30 the Sea-Doo does not have the Sport Compact with the 230HP available, unfortunately. My favorite segment is at 9:28 - this is why I preordered that bad boy. Cheers
No there isn’t a 230HP 13-footer.
@@watercraftjournal Correct, the video implies all Sport models come with the ability for either 170 or 230 choices. Just wanted to clarify :)
@@WeTryMotorsports They control the hp output via computer tuning and addition of a supercharger. its the same 1630 ACE Rotax. you will see 230 hp 13 footers.....
@@jimmykol I don't like to say this on other channels, but I outlined exactly what you're saying in mine - so I understand this completely. I'm talking about stock, out of the gate from Sea-Doo you can't order a Sport Compact with 230hp. I pre-ordered a Sport Compact and I fully intend to tune it immediately. I already have the maptunerX
Best review on youtube👍
Glad you think so!
The switch looks like an excellent product I can hardly wait to try one
Fantastic video kevin. So informative and eloquently put.
Glad you think so!
Awesome video! Can you wakeboard behind any of them without the supercharged version? I don't want to mess with a supercharge rebuild every few years. It doesn't look like any of them come with a tower to hook up a towline up high? I wouldn't want the 13 footer. I'd like something that holds at least 8 people.
Yes you can!
I love this. It is a jet ski with a boat built on top of it. I have been concerned with the polytec hulls as replacement is labor intensive. Adding that much more bulk to an impact will surely make them more prone to damage than the Gti. However for the money this is awesome and I suppose if you didn’t let anybody borrow it then it will probably never break.
They’re pretty stout for what they are.
The switch hulls are built in sections so you only need to replace what’s broken.
Do you mean this type of hull is super expensive to repair?
We just got one and it is awesome lol I feel like I’m driving a huge jet ski we got the 18ft one
Nice!
never been on water, like only touring boats but i want this to be my first entry to boating and yachting maybe
That's awesome!
I would love one, as we are currently looking at purchasing a pontoon, but unfortunately the deal is we need a pontoon with a fishing package, and these don't seem to have that option. Great boat though!
Being a single Man I'd love the 13' sport set it up for fishing, out on the lake to fish with a couple of guests, good times coming 😊
Thanks for the thorough report! I have one on order. Any news on when they will start to be delivered? You seem to have the connections to provide solid info. Thanks!
Not yet!
3 have been delivered in Pensacola, Florida, 9 to go Thru January they say……
Great looking product I wonder if they sold normal seats that you can detach and put in the water for just floating in the water seating and fishing off of or maybe just a roll up towing island that you can just roll out and walk on to fish off maybe even detach a seat and attach to the island to seat on. That would be cool too.
Define "normal seats."
You can modulate it to a sandbar bit probably would break after a few times
Its ben good 10 years sense looking at water craft last thing i was looking at was sea rays. But thease seadoo has come up on game the new fishing skis and these
That's the hope.
Not for me as I purchased a 23' Tri with 200 Merc, but I can definitely see these things selling very well, Seadoo sure does now how to hit a niche out of the park. These will be all over lakes/rivers next year assuming they can make enough.
Yup!
Well, like every one else they can’t. Pre sold in Florida Thru 2023
Awesome 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
They will sell a ton. Great video.
Yes they will!
$60,000 dollars for a pontoon boat? Good luck in the USA with that. Yamaha still dominates and obviously for far less you get actual creature comforts (protection from the elements most importantly.) Compared to an outboard run all aluminum pontoon this checks zero boxes...again at this price and in the USA.
Look forward to being proven wrong absolutely but pure battery electric is just now fully in the water (TwinVee) and given how quiet pure BEV, more reliable, far less complex, awesome amounts of torque and well suited for watercraft propulsion and I think this ICE Platform base is going to have a lot to prove in as somehow "latest and greatest."
Nice marketing material tho..
Thanks for the review. What do you consider a moderate chops lake? Here we have some days with high west winds with 3-4’ high 🌊 waves that can start with a calm lake to white froth chops to 3-4 ‘ waves in 10-15 minutes. How the Switch will react in those kind of waves if we need to come back home and are in the middle of this?
It'll beat it to death.
Couple of things…First, any Sport model gets a standard Bimini. You’d only made that mention for the Cruise models. Base models do not get one, nor can they get one. 2nd, the 13’ Compact Sport does not get the standard 2 speaker BRP Bluetooth sound system like the longer versions do, and is only available with the 170 hp. 3rd, as an FYI, the gas fill cap/tube is under a small Velcro section next to the Captains chair outside. 4th, the trailer comes with a built in ladder to access the pontoon from the ground. 5th, if you preorder (and this is the only way you’ll ever see one first year they arrive in 2022), SeaDoo throws in an extra year of warranty, giving you 2 total. Much more details, but these are a few.
The Compact version in either base or Sport, has only a few of the padded sections for comfort…but you can purchase a kit for more. Also, on every length model, every seat has under-seat storage, and the seats lining the rear and sides, fold flat, as well as being removable.
OK, that's for all that info. As you might've guessed it's a little hard to cram EVERYTHING into a brief 10-12min. video.
@@watercraftjournal oh yeah. There’s even more to tell, too…lol. But, I very much liked and appreciated the review…I’m ordering one for myself too…getting the Compact Sport, because I like the 170 hp, and Bimini…and it’s mostly just my wife and I that’ll use it, with perhaps one other couple. Don’t care about the stereo…I’ll bring my own Bluetooth speaker. Buying the mat kit which runs the soft mat material over all of the center section….this will be a hit…those that don’t get the Captains set up, to be able to drive it like a jet ski, don’t get it. It turns on a dime as you said, and the Intelligent Braking Reverse is no joke…I’ve watched, silently, some of your other reviews..love ‘em. Just with this one, I had a little more “first hand” info..lol.
how do you board the 21 switch cruise from the rear. I see the labels to be sure to keep the doors closed on the rear 1/4 panels, but don't see how either of the swinging quarter panel doors open so that you can easily board from the swim step. Thanks!
Easy, you crawl over the back seats that slightly fold down. SUPER CONVENIENT!
Great video, that's a lot cheaper then the Ventura I've been wanting. Only thing I'm not liking is the what I believe is plastic windows. Reminds me of my 1st jeep with half doors with the zipper windows... scratch and get damaged easily.
They're very similar, yes.
I miss my first Jeep. 🤣
The Ventura is a Cadillac in comparison.
Good for sea doo making more $ on upgrades/replacements
If I can just ram this thing up onto a sandbar for a day picnic (without damaging any prop) then this thing is awesome!
LOL this is NOT the boat to do that.
Is the 16 foot avaliable with the 230hp motor? If so is it your top pick? Or is the 13 footer with the 170hp the way to go?
Yes. And it all depends on what your needs are. It's really impossible for anyone to make that decision for you.
Great video man! How close is the fun level of the mid-size sport compared to the compact? As you said, the mid-size seems to check all the boxes, but I'd be willing to uncheck a few boxes if the compact is that much more fun to drive.
The 13' is really rowdy with the 170HP.
@@watercraftjournal So.. Mid-size or Compact. What's your pick?
im totally down for companies to make cheaper boat options for people. When a fishing boat is 80k+ things are out of control.
That was the point!
You get what you pay for. Design and construction cost $ and those 80k fishing boats hold their value. There are plenty of cheaper fishing boats out there and I’m sure your aware of that. This “pontoon” boat is like the modular home of houses.
Great video! Thanks!
What do you think on having the Switch as a bay boat on Lake Erie?
Not a bad idea
Looks cool. I'm concerned about those plastic side windows shattering if they get bumped or pushed against during freezing winter storage.
Shattering? They're soft plastic, like the windows on a Jeep.
@@watercraftjournal I only ask because I had a convertible that had a soft plastic back window and it shattered/multi-cracked during the winter.
Just curious. Has anyone set theirs up for fishing (trolling motors, etc.) and what would you do about a live well? Not knocking this thing at all. I'm just asking. It seems like it would be great for canals in bayous. No its not an air boat, not like I'd be jumping stumps anyway.
Good question!
Excellent review. Jetskis can be annoyingly loud (common lakeowners complaint). What do these sound like? Mostly wondering at the preverbal "sunset cruise" type speeds.
Honestly, modern PWC are nowhere near as loud as older 2-strokes. These are very muted and you'll never hear them wring out the throttle.
Does it disturb you when you’re enjoying your grey poupon 😂
@@jagervolant7871 ha, so very funny.
Anyone know if it’s possible to ski behind these? I assume it would have to be the bigger 2 engine options. Personally I love the small one just wish it had the big motor in it
We towed a raft in the video. You can get the 13' with the 170HP.
We ski, wakeboard, knee board and tube behind our 21/230
What about of weeds get in the jet? Can it be cleaned out topside or do you need to get under?
All Switch models come with IDF.
great idea.......could have shown the launch from the trailer! or is that the sore spot?
this would make for a grand time with the kids. Nicely done!!
They were already launched when we got there. Why would that be a "sore spot?"
@@watercraftjournal =you know launch and retrieval in the wind is a major problem for boaters
=can it be driven on/off the trailer?
=does the short wide stance [hull design] give it an advantage at the ramp?
.....hence the sore spot blip. What manufacturers show you is one thing but what they do not show you could be an Achilles heel.
Your vid review was spot on and checked many boxes. Thx
It wasn't a windy day, so it wouldn't have been a good litmus test anyhow.
@@watercraftjournal thx
Do you know anything about when it comes to winterizing the boat? Thanks.
Not much more than WHAT IS IN THE MANUAL.
with the 1630 motor is it just a tune that changes the 100hp to the 170 or are the internals different? i'd bet to save money they are the same and you can save some scratch getting the 100 hp and tune it.
Just a tune.
Okay, but the swell in Alaska’s Inside Passage is frequently four feet…. Would these work for the inside passage, or are these for flat lake and river waters only?
Absolutely not an open ocean vessel.
If there was a fishing model then I'd be really interested. Also wonder what the fuel efficiency is?
We got a new 2022 Sun Tracker Fishing Barge 22 foot pontoon with 150HP 4 stroke Mercury outboard. Fully optioned out, fishing package, under skinning, ski tower, trailer, it all came in at 46K dollars.
Has a 10 foot powered bimini top, front and rear live wells, GPS trolling motor with remote control, GPS chart plotter/fish finder, seats 11 people, sound system, fishing rod storage and tackle storage, removable table, plenty of under seat storage, 38 gallon fuel tank, cruises at 33 MPH with 4-5 adults with fishing gear and food-drinks.
We've gone 54 miles on 18 gallons. It can do a 118 mile round trip on a tank of gas at full throttle cruising speed.
Comes with a lifetime warranty for the original owner and a 10 year transferrable warranty.
This is my 3rd boat and so far we've really enjoyed it.
Has a nice swim ladder on the back with a small swim deck area to jump off into the water from and the side gate is another great spot to jump from too. Front ladder built onto the trailer makes getting in and out of the boat while it's on the trailer very easy. Ski tower is heavy duty and is up above the motor so pulling tubes is no issue and is very easy.
Build quality is solid.
A dedicated fishing model is soon coming.
Gotta get one of these
Put a deposit in now. It's a long wait.
@@watercraftjournal Good to know, thanks
I live in Osceola County these lakes can get rough I'm curious how it does in rough water
Not well.
All of 'em for '22 went like hotcakes...... I tried to get one, couldn't scare one up. Opted for a Fish Pro Trophy instead.
Nice!
Do they come with a live well?
Just FYI, my father has owned the 13' model with the 170 HP motor for about 3 months now (around 35 hours of use). In our experience, everything about the boat is very cheaply made, plastic, breaks constantly and takes weeks to months to get replacemet parts. The boat takes on water into the hull and has to be drained and cleaned rigorously and the ride is atrocous due to the very wide and flat hull. Not to mention, the deck of the boat gets scalding hot in the sun, so no bare feet onboard. I suppose if it were on a flat, freshwater lake, it wouldn't be a big deal, but as this one is being used in Pensacola Bay, Pensacola, Florida, all of the above make it a very bad boat for the area. Oh yeah, with 4 people on board, at least two have to be sitting/standing up front or the boat will not reach plane. He is already trying to sell his.
And you're surprised? A pontoon Spark.
I agree. All that black trim would quickly get too hot to touch in the Florida sun. Plus, black and gray are downright dangerous colors due to poor visibility in bad weather !
Have you copied and pasted this on every video?
@@googoo8325I appreciated the real life experience from an owner.
I like it
Great!
I’m looking into these switch’s quite seriously for next season. Primarily my boating will be done at lake Powell, mead, and havasu, all of which are known to have moderate chop frequently. I’m a family of 5, and would like having the capability to bring a few friends. Looking at the 230 18 and 21 options, how would they compare? I’m leaning towards the 21 just for assumed increased ride and comfort in chop. Is the power adequate in the 21, or does it start to feel anemic?
See our other video on the 21'. Even the 230 struggles to push a fully loaded vessel. Wait until the new Manitou pontoons are revealed in a week.
Interesting, I’ll keep an eye out. I have a young family so it’ll be a jet boat for me for a few years, but if they do jets I’ll be in. Otherwise I’ll either settle for the 18, or do the 21 and look aftermarket for a tune.
Any live wells in these models or can you add one?
Very good question - to which I don't have an answer!
I want a Compact 170 but where do I mount a Minn Kota Ultrex 80# thrust trolling motor?
LOL!
@@watercraftjournal I am not kidding. If I can find a way to do it I am going to buy a Compact Sport 170 and mount a trolling motor with spot lock. Won't even need a shallow water anchor. I wonder if SeaDoo will let you upgrade the fish finder to whatever the buyer chooses if the buyer pays for it up front and lets SeaDoo install it?
Dang. These look perfect for a boat newb like me. Take the fam and grand kids out running around.
Exactly the intent behind it!
Does the switch sport 18' come from factory with two Soft Armrest with Cup Holder (269003781) and Seat Corner Backrest (LH) (295101045)?
No idea. You're gonna have to call a dealer.
Just got on the list in Florida. Put my $1k down to be priority and hoping for the fully loaded model by spring 2023. Very creative design by seadoo
Congrats. I'm very curious about how well these hold up over 5-6 years of average usage
Enjoy!
Great review. My concern is the ability to drive in shallow water. What’s the minimum distance for clearance in shallow water to prevent damage? I live on a shallow river channel and wonder if this would be as driveable as a pontoon in those shallow waters.
3 feet deep.
8 foot draw, no problem
How is the wake on this boat for wakeboarding and for scurfing?
Fair question. We towed a raft in our testing, but Greg Gaddis did wakeboard behind one. He enjoyed it, but it obviously wasn't equal to a dedicated wake boat.
@@watercraftjournal thank you for the fast reply
It’s like Rubbermaid decided to make a boat!
Seems repetitive.
Wonder what the fuel burn on the 230 is like
Less than 5mpg.
hey i go out on lake minnetonka all the time i might see you sometime
You'll never find us - we're never there but this one time.
@@watercraftjournal awh😂come by sometime and let's have a sea doo party
kinda odd there isn't a"fish" trim level. I didn't see a single pedestal seat even. just be nice to be able to put that cooler from the fishing jet ski they got with the water pump, nd then a pedistal seat at each corner and taht swim deck on the back so you can kneel and get low if you need. maybe some rod holders and so forth...i would really consider that if i could set it up for fishing.
It's not so odd when you watch out other videos. A fishing trim will be offered in later models.
Wonder how's performance on tough water conditiom?
This is NOT an open ocean vessel, if that's your question.
@@watercraftjournal i was thinking of lake powell--watching your video i do not think they would handle the chop--when the wind comes up(common) it gets extremely choppy
I am not too sure about the longevity of this. If you look at 1:46 in the video, the floor bends just from him jumping. How do you think this will do in rougher conditions, at speed, with multiple passengers? I don't think too well...
It's not an open ocean-fairing vessel. This is an entry level pontoon for lakes and rivers.
It wasn’t the floor he jumped from, it was the swim platform…not a structural part of the hull.
Take the thirteen foot one into the ocean through the inlets
Yikes! Please don’t!
What is the plan for salt water and these pontoons with jet motor? Need a lift?
Get it out of the water, yes.
@@watercraftjournal That's really going to slow down the adoption... Unless a similar solution is in place like a jet ski dock.... Just larger. Floating docks are big $$$
I need this boat
Order soon!
I'd like to see one customized for fishing!
That would be cool!
I think BRP made a big design flaw in the SWITCH. One can only enter it easily from the front. Most pontoon boats have a gate on the side and front. You will need a L shaped dock to board it from the front. I may have missed another way but I have watched about ten videos on the new switch and not one including yours shows anyone boarding the boat. BTW all 2022 SWITCHES are sold out.
I haven't heard that all '22 Switches have been sold to customers, but rather, all Switches have been sold to dealers.
@@watercraftjournal
I call all the dealers around me (Ottawa Canada) and they all said that they are sold to customers. One is going to call me when they come in so I can see it but they are all sold out for 2022. Kevin do you have any comment on the front only gate. I would be interested in your take on this.
How does this pontoon act in a weedy lake?
We were in a weedy lake. It did fine.
How good is that upgraded sound system?
It's good. You'll want all the corner speakers.
@@watercraftjournal thanks a lot. I just called and got em as an option after watching this video.
"All" as in more than 2. Like above and beyond the 4k upgrade?
Does it suck getting the boat on a plane I had a cyclone and it sucked
The little one? No. The largest one? Yes.
For those extended water times - anyone have a "linq compatible" privacy bathroom for this yet? Somewhat surprised not many party barges with self contained facilities.
Bwahahaha!
1:45 the flex 😫
It's gnarly.
I want one so bad but I can't decide what to get. I want to wake board with it but I also don't want to go to a super high end tier at 40k. I don't need the space since it will be just me, wife and 2 dogs like 98% of the time
Lots of options!
@@watercraftjournal what is your opinion on towing a 200lb man behind a compact sport 170hp model. I've narrowed it down thanks to the youtube community and now I just need to see a video of that happening to confirm.
Just wanted to let you know you have a typo in the description, you say Spark instead of Switch.
Fixed! Thank you.
Will these break down as much as a regular sea doo?
Only if they're misused like a vast number of PWC are.
Probably. And then good luck finding somebody to work on it for a reasonable price after the warranty is out. Looks pretty sweet though!
the reconfigurable deck layout sounds neat but I would never consider buying one unless they ditch the jet drive and give it an outboard
Then you've completely missed the point of the entire damn thing.
Looks like the engine removal is worse than a typical inboard. Hard to tell though is this the case?
Possibly so.
So can you tune the 230 to 300hp?
No.
Sort of. Sea Doo’s 300hp version of the 1630 ace does have a few upgraded internals over the 230hp models, so it’s not a just case of identical engine, different tune like it is with the 130/170 models.
However there are tune/prop combos out there already for the GTR 230 that will give another 6mph of top speed, so I could certainly see something similar coming for the Switch.
Also, since the 230 and 300 are basically identical externally, I see no reason why people couldn’t start swapping 300 engines into these.
How fast was the 13’ 170hp??
Can’t you just tune the 100hp to 170hp?
They’re not fast at all. Mid to high 30’s.
I wonder if i could fix a 300 in the compact. That might be interesting 🤔
It would literally tear that hull in half.
@@watercraftjournal WOW. They are that thin that sucks. Well then i think ill pass on one 😅
So what ur telling me is Sea-do combine a jet ski, a pontoon boat, and a ski boat into one? And it’s affordable? Consider me sold!!
More or less!
They are good fair weather bikini girl party boats. I can't figure out why they don't build one with a windshield with a removable enclosed cab. My wife and I considered a pontoon boat, but in cool weather they are pretty much worthless to us. We opted for a regular windshield boat.
Again ENTRY LEVEL BOAT.
@@watercraftjournal The pontoon boat is a great idea/concept, but all (entry level or not) of them have basically the same Bimini sun roofs and are pretty worthless in cool weather.
You can get a full camper enclosure.
How does it handle in the chop?
What did the article say?
@@watercraftjournal why not just answer his question?
Very rude
Are you sure the anchor and line come standard with each model?
That's what the Sea-Doo Brand Manager told me to my face while he was filmed on camera pulling the anchor from the front bin.
@@watercraftjournal thanks - appreciate the color. I wish they did a better job telling dealers / consumers what comes standard. My dealer just called me and told me their accessories order is going in tomorrow and it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to get anything on my own next year. I nearly popped on the anchor. I did have him add a collapsible paddle. Guess I’ll have an extra if that comes standard as well.
I bet they will sell a lot of those anchor box lids. :-)
FYI - I checked the manual. Anchor and rope is not standard - needs to be purchased as an accessory. Confirmed in another review. I think it was about 11 mins in.
czcams.com/video/h6UEBF524XM/video.html
Meh, not exactly. We had to double check with corporate. It's standard on all Sport and Cruise models.
need a 230 hp 13 footer!
Literally will never happen.
What is the width of these?
Not sure. Look it up.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yup
Looks like sea doo found or created a new niché. Already have the wife wanting me to sell the Scarab so I won’t show her these yet.😏
They seem to specialize in understanding the market better than others.
Can the Switch go into the ocean?
Certainly. Calmer conditions are preferred.
All they need now is a Fishpro version
It's coming.
How much gas is this 170 horse use ?
Depends on how you operate the throttle.
Great video and review, but with all the plastic that things looks like a jet drive strapped to a yeti cooler… 😂
LOL
Where can I find them?
At Sea-Doo dealers
I'd love to know how these will do on Bays. Not a glassy lake. I heard in a different video the '13 should not go into chop higher than 1ft, a small openbow even handles that. The other issue I have is the options. Why cant I get the Bimini on the base model or option the 170 engine? Although the 100 and the 170 are the same engine, they will have Tunes out for these shortly I feel. Yet, I dont see any videos ont he base models, all Sports or higher. The other issue is really cost. $21k to start on a '16ft? Although, trailer is included which makes that pill a lot easier to swallow.
They don't. Smooth water only.
@@watercraftjournal living in the east coast right by NJ, the Bay is where I boat, lots of pontoons out there and handle some chop very well. Do you think the ‘16 can or is that a waste of money then?
Watch our video for flex, specifically. Then watch other Switch reviews for the same action.
I can see some other manufacture "adjusting their designs" to be comparable. They could call it "The Switcheroo".
LOL!
@@watercraftjournal I really do think this concept will be the future of pontoon boats. I think the other mfgs will at least be scrambling to "rearrange the deck chairs" to be competitive.
