    Darlette Yee (not sure if I'm spelling the first name correctly) I never met. However, her mother was a teacher at Dahlia Heights Elementary School in the Eagle Rock suburb of Los Angeles, where I attended from 1977 to 1980. When I told Mrs. Yee I saw her on Joker! Joker! Joker! she was as nice as could be. Darlette attended another school. My neighbor across the street, who was 11 years younger, had Mrs. Yee for kindergarten.

    I would have loved to have been on this, as I was 10 years old in 1978, and I've always loved anything Jack Barry and Dan Enright produced. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, the syndicated Joker's Wild didn't air in the market I grew up in (Springfield, MO), although if atmospheric conditions were just right, we could, on occasion, pick it up on channel 11 out of St. Louis, where it aired at 9:00 PM every weeknight (yes, I grew up out in the sticks).

  • @SyncopateTheShot
    @SyncopateTheShot Před rokem +1

    Ishan, I am curious (because I grew up watching Barry and Enright shows), did the producers tell you to look into the camera, act surprised, and smile a lot? Did they also tell you to shake hands with your opponent a lot? All contestants on Barry and Enright shows seemed to do this, whereas contestants on other shows did not always do it with producers like Goodson-Todman, etc. Merely a curiosity on my part. I would have been two years old when this came out, and I still probably watched it. Thanks for sharing this clip.

    • @Ishanamin
      @Ishanamin  Před rokem +1

      Yes we were told to greet the opposite player during rehearsal in backstage. I don’t remember being told to look into the camera but I do recall the statement of stating focused on Jack Berry and don’t look into the audience during the game. The lights were so bright on the stage. You really couldn’t see the audience anyway.

    • @SyncopateTheShot
      @SyncopateTheShot Před rokem +1

      @@Ishanamin Thanks for the reply. On the regular Joker's Wild during the bonus game, Charlie O'Donnell (or whoever the announcer was) would describe the prize package, and the contestant would keep their eyes squarely focused on the camera as if their reactions were for the camera alone. But I can see they did not do it that way for the bonus round on this version (Joker, Joker, Joker), so this did not apply to you. Glad you had fun. I was once on a game show (TPIR) back in 1997. Yeah, the guy is annoying as hell

    • @Ishanamin
      @Ishanamin  Před rokem +1

      Well, the original airing didn’t have that annoying guy. When this originally aired in 1978, my family didn’t own a VCR so my dad had the recording outsourced to an outside agency because they owned a VCR. It was only years later that we got a VCR and we put the tape in and it was blank!!! We were all dumbfounded. We pay a company $500 per episode to record it, and they gave us a blank tape, never recorded. so move forward 20+ years and I find out that GSN, (Game Show Network) is airing JJJ at like 5 AM on Saturdays so I would wake up every Saturday at 4:30 AM - get my blank tape and VCR ready for recording if I see that I'm on that episode. My finger was ready to press record if I was on that episode, if I wasn’t, I went back to bed. Finally one weekend, after like waking up every Saturday for three months, I found out that I’ll be on the following weekend because I recognized the kid I played in my first session, (the kid with the nanny) so when I finally recorded it GSN had all these annoying comedic overlays and yes, that annoying guy coming in. So in a nutshell, the original airing didnt have it but the one from the late 90's did.
