Mark Heying Well, look at them-they are enormous compared to the other two teams. They had already beaten team 2 before any of the groceries were added to the sweep total, and they more than doubled team 3’s total. I’m amazed they didn’t eat them.

According to Randy West, whom replaced Johnny Gilbert on the PAX-TV run of Supermarket Sweep, the deli items were real, and ended up taking home some of the gourmet cheese, as it couldn't be donated, due to 100-degree heat, during the 2000 season.
Then why do a lot of game shows offer that as the top prize still? Lol. $5K is still a lot and considered to be sufficient by a lot of show's standards.
Why does the announcer giggle a little as he announces the 2nd group of contestants to play? He does it on EVERY episode. He doesn't do this with the 1st and 3rs group. 🤔🧐

This was a fix if ever I saw one. How did they get all the questions right, especially the round robin game with no clues. How did they find the Spam in the mini sweep that fast? They must have been related to David Ruprecht, or worked on the show. Just sayin'.
It's not fixed. First of all, the contestants are given a walkthrough of the market before the show so that they have a general idea of where everything is. That's likely how Regan was able to get to the SPAM so quickly. Second, there's a television monitor in front of the contestants which shows the scrambled word, and if they're good at word puzzles, then they can figure it out without having to hear any of the clues. Plus, if it was fixed, then the FCC would have pulled the show off the air. Contestants are not allowed to have any connections to anyone working on the show or the network.
