      Good, people are overreacting about this film saying it "ruined the franchise" like really? There's 3 other amazing films in this franchise and it's not like it was a cheap cash grab like Megamind 2, they still made it look good and made it fun and stayed truthful to the main characters we saw.

      That's what the Chameleon said to justify her actions, but the best explanation is that she wasn't allowed to learn kung fu because the Chameleon was always greedy and wanted to learn kung fu to have power and terrorise everyone. When she didn't have what she wanted, she power herself with sorcery and attempted to have the kung fu skills the easy way by stealing them with magic, thus corrupting the very nature of kung fu by combining it with sorcery. The way she talks about her past, the fact she doesn't have envy of Po and the other masters for knowing kung fu and way she looked in a greedy way to them are red flags that she is manipulating Po with a sad story.

    • @echidna7970
      @echidna7970 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @turbolid it might have been better if she hadn't tried to justify her action and just lean toward a pure greed character, if she started off fine and learned her specific kung fu and a few other kung fu types before they realised she was collecting kung fu out of greed and forbid her to learn more leading her down her dark path and stealing everyone's kung fu, maybe even stealing Pos kung fu having to find new strategies to fight and defeat her truling finding his dragon warrior within himself as if it truly couldn't be stolen or something idk but they definitely should have leaned in with her having to stop kung fu because she's pure greedy, if they wanted redemption ark it could be for her to accept her original style of kung fu 🤷‍♀️

    Kai is personally my favorite Kung Fu Panda villain. I like his connection with Oogway and how you can feel bad for him because of how he felt betrayed by Oogway. This betrayal explains his actions. Also he’s just cool as hell. His design, theme, weapon, color, and the way he fights are so awesome. In a way Kai isn’t truly evil, his motivations have been twisted by betrayal and his want for power.
    Also J.K. Simmons. Just J.K. Simmons.

    Kai is a spirit being who can go toe to toe with Oogway, defeated Shifu and nearly defeated Po, until Po’s friends helped him. That’s how unstoppable Kai is, that everyone who was defeated by him put up the best fight they could only to get defeated until Po stopped him for good. It is this unstoppable nature, being bad to the bone, having a good voice actor and a badass theme to top it off that makes Kai my favourite Kung Fu Panda villain. Tai Lung is a close second, followed by Lord Shen in third place. Unfortunately, the new villain in Kung Fu Panda 4 is last place in my book because she doesn’t live up to the 3 original Kung Fu Panda villains

    Number Four: The Chameleon - Not awesome, not terrible, just an okay villain
    Number Three: General Kai - Pretty good, but I would’ve liked to have seen him take the chis of the other masters in the spirit realm
    Number Two: Tail Lung - A cool villain that only wanted to make his father proud
    Number One: Lord Shen - Fast, intelligent, manipulative, and the literal opposite of Po

  • @nicolaseasdale1394
    @nicolaseasdale1394 Před měsícem +8

    In Defense Of Kung Fu Panda 4:
    Animation is excellent, the fights are extremely well animated - choreographed.
    THE MUSIC IS GREAT.
    THE MESSAGE about being complacent with who you are - will make it hard to accept change. One Cannot Be A Better Version Of Themselves Tomorrow Without Changing For The Better Today. I loved Po's development in this film -- as humans - we don't just grow past bad habits, we relapse, we go back in development of ourselves after we take a step further. THAT'S PO'S DEVELOPMENT IN THIS FRANCHISE. That's the way humans develop.
    Voice Acting was GREAT
    ZHEN's development was...MUCH better than I expected. She was genuinely played well by Awkwafina who gets WAY too much hate for just being the actress she is. ZHEN's chemistry with Po was well done and it's a character, personality wise that I don't believe we've ever seen Po be around. Their dynamic was fun and interesting to watch.
    HOWEVER, yes THE CHAMELEON is a GREAT villain concept, in theory but in terms of execution of this villain - DreamWorks, specifically the writers and Mike Mitchell could've done better, explored her past of getting rejected more WITH VISUALS like Tai-Lung, Shen, AND General Kai. I will add however, that The Chameleon was more well fleshed out "motivation-wise" then General Kai. We may have gotten phenomenal fight scenes, excellent voice acting, and a kickass score from Kai but we never got a solid REASON - MOTIVATION as to why he wanted to steal everyone's Chi. However, The Chameleon LITERALLY explains her motivation to Po towards the end battle. So, The Chameleon is technically more well developed then Kai, but definitely not as well-fleshed out as Tai Lung, let alone Lord Shen.
    COULD'VE PUT THE FURIOUS FIVE IN! The Furious Five not being in this film for me is definitely what holds it back from being an EXCELLENT film the most. It's a SOLID film - without a shadow of a doubt, BUT Tigress should've been developed in this film. We very well should've gotten more personal development between her relationship with Po, that has been built up throughout the last three films. As for feeling like she should've been chosen as The Dragon Warrior. I don't believe that Tigress or the REST of The Furious Five feel the NEED to be The Dragon Warrior, nor the desire due to growing past being jealous of Po being it in the first film. I feel like it not going to one of is just consistent with their development. In-Any-Case - they'll be back for Kung Fu Panda 5 - and be in damn-near the forefront of the film according to Mike Mitchell. Mike Mitchell has said that seeing the Five in the ending of this film, is meant to lead us directly into the next film with The Five. Also, apparently Mike Mitchell is the BIGGEST advocate for a Furious Five Film -- according to Co-Director -- Stephanie Ma-Shine. Super Excited To See KFP5.
    Now LASTLY - about Lord Shen and Kai bowing down to Po after he defeated The Chameleon. Tai-Lung had realized he was wrong in the first film after he sees The Dragon Scroll is empty but just continued to fight Po out of anger. HE KNEW PO WAS RIGHT, AND DOES NO ONE THINK THAT ALL THIS TIME THE SPIRIT REALM MAKES CHARACTERS GROW? - Lord Shen also DEVELOPED, in the last moments of the second film - he asks Po, how did you do it? Stating that he took away his parents, everything. I scared you for life. And Po responds with you got to let go of that stuff from the past cuz it just doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is who you choose to be now. And Lord Shen chose his fate, BUT one the boat collapses due to Po - Shen fighting, he ACCEPTS his own fate. Going from there and having time to reflect on your actions in The Spirit Realm, one can safely assess that Lord Shen definitely respects Po, due to how surprised and impressed Lord Shen was about Po finding inner peace. It's IN Kung Fu Panda 2. We can clearly see Shen would respect Po after he won against not just his weapons, but against all the trauma Lord Shen put him and all the remaining pandas. So, the villain respect scene which is a clear homage to the first film - is actually consistent with the three main villains' character growth.
    To Sum All Of This Up: Kung Fu Panda 4 is NOT as masterfully well done as Kung Fu Panda, let alone Kung Fu Panda 2. It's humor is better placed and more well done than Kung Fu Panda 3. Also the fights are just almost the best they've ever been. As a movie - Kung Fu Panda 4 is EXTREMELY GOOD - even GREAT at times but the lack of The Furious Five hurt every aspect of the film and The Chameleon being under utilized definitely bring the movie down. It's definitely extremely good but not as good as it could've been.

      WOW, just Wow !!! I think you are right on the MONEY !! I agree with every point you said and I have been having more or less the exact same thoughts.
      1) Po's arc and development about embracing Change was something I did not expect and it did not feel like a rehash of previous movies. The theme did not have the emotional depth that previous movies had but still, the movie had a decent amount of theme and character development.
      2) Zhen was a cool character I think and a worthy successor of Po. Not just because she is an orphan like Po but because of other reasons as well. I think the true meaning of the Dragon Warrior is creating a legend out of nowhere. Oogway himself is just a simple calm tortoise and normally we would not expect a tortoise to be the inventor of Kung Fu. Same goes with Po and Zhen. Plus I think Zhen was the only one who could have defeated Chameleon. While fighting Po, Chameleon unleashed all of her powers and potential and over-powered him. But while fighting Zhen, if you notice Chameleon does not shapeshift at all and underestimates her. I find it ironical how she thought she was being underestimated while she herself underestimated her opponent and paid the price.
      4) Speaking of Chameleon, I think she was a pretty great villain. She lacked the complexity, depth and impact of previous villains but still was a solid antagonist. Apart from powers and the voice acting of Viola Davis, I liked how she was someone who could change from the outside while Po's journey in this movie is to accept inner change. I do agree that they should have shown flashbacks of her rejection to flesh her out more. But reason and motivation wise she was better than Kai even though he had a fantastic theme score and great action sequences. I can prove to anyone her backstory is valid.
      5) Coming to the Five, they were missed a lot in this adventure. But their absence also allowed Zhen and Po to grow more. And having the five again could have felt more like reusing the same formulas again and again. I wish Crane, Viper and Mantis reprised because their actors are relatively cheap. Then yeah Mike Mitchell is advocating for a Furious Five film maybe they will eventually get their own spin-off movie.
      6) Coming to the chemistry of Po and Zhen, I liked the differences created in their personalities. During the tavern fight, I liked how Po made sure the bunny servants and the fish boat captain did not get hurt while Zhen was more interested in stealing purses. I think the flaw I find in Zhen is that her redemption arc was tad rushed. Like maybe a few minutes could have been spend there.
      So overall yes, Kung Fu Panda 4 is not a masterpiece like its predecessors but is still a great and enjoyable movie with stylized action sequences, genuinely good humor and some great themes about embracing Change. I will give the movie an 8.8/10 and Chameleon a 9/10.

      @user-ev8qw6bw2e Před 4 dny +1

      I also agree with you about the returning villains. I wished Tai Lung had more fight scenes and the others could have had more dialogues. But there redemption arc felt very in-character actually.
      The reason why Tai Lung became evil was because of his obsession with the Dragon Scroll. Everyone thought it would grant limitless power. But it turned out to be nothing. Po realized that it was just about internal validation while Tai Lung was just angered about how he wasted his life for nothing. And in the spirit realm which looks like a place free from worldly materialistic pursuits, Tai Lung would gain salvation. Same goes with Lord Shen. We see how he Accepts his Fate. He finally comes to the conclusion that the Cup He Chose to Fill has no bottom. And in spirit realm, he would further let go of his obsessions to conquer China. For Kai, he had supernatural obsessions that could be pursued in the spirit realm but after his "spiritual death" he finally came to the realization that the Power He Takes, The Less He Has. We can concoct a lot of theories to excuse how he is still alive at the spirit realm even though he was obliterated by Po. One theory is that the Staff of Wisdom conjured his essence when Chameleon summoned him. It was cool to see the villains become sort of good guys because in their movies they were given every chance of redemption and they refused to redeem. But in the afterlife, they have finally come to realizations of their actions.

    I think something that the movie could’ve done to make Kies story better is that later in the movie while he’s fighting Poe or someone else he says, he only stole the power to protect ogway, because he failed at protecting him the first time, and he feels betrayed because he only stole the first time was to make him powerful enough to protect him, and what he did in return, was banished him to the spirit realm for 500 years.

    Lord Shen is not only my favourite Kung Fu Panda villain but probably my favourite animated movie villain of all time, I love how sadistic and manipulative he is, I love that by trying to avoid his fate he only ends up sealing it, I love his connection with Po, he literally killed Po’s whole village and he is the polar opposite to Po, Shen always thought his parents never loved him because they sent him away which is why he tells Po that his parents didn’t love him because Shen doesn’t understand that the whole reason Po’s parents sent him away was because they loved him and they wanted to keep Po safe and when Shen is finally told that his parents did actually love him, he has a moment where u can see how much that genuinely means to him but he still doesn’t change because he knows that it’s too late for him to turn back now, he’s gone too far to stop and u can hear the pain in his voice every time he talks about his parents, all he ever wanted was for them to love him. Shen isn’t the best at Kung Fu but he makes up for it with his mind, Shen is a strategic genius who carefully plans everything he does. At the end when he asks Po about how he found peace, he’s asking for himself because he wants to find peace too and I believe that in that moment he realises that death is the only way he’s gonna find peace which is why he still continues to fight Po even after Po has told him that he still has time to change his ways. Also I love Gary Oldman’s acting for Shen, he was perfect for the role, he manages to make Shen threatening but also understandable at the same time and I love that. Also a theory I have seen before which I genuinely believe in is about the prophecy about Shen, the prophecy states that Shen will be defeated by a warrior of black and white and Shen assumes that means he’s gonna be defeated by a Panda but what if the prophecy actually means that Shen will be the one to defeat himself, think about it, Shen is black and white (yes I know he also has bits of red) and everything Shen does to avoid the prophecy only ends up making it come true, Shen massacres the Panda village which causes Po to be sent away and grow up to become the dragon warrior, Lord Shen army then attacks the valley of peace which then causes Po and the furious 5 to go to Gongmen city, then Shen sends the Soothsayer away, which means that she’s able to teach Po how to gain inner peace which enables him to be able to defeat Shen in the end.

    Nice vid bro. I agree with your list. However I would put Tai Lung over Shen. reason being that with tai lung I just find his scenes more interesting. I relate to his story more. I also literally can’t even blink when I watch his prison escape scene. he’s also like a perfect mirror of Po for the first movie. he also had every reason to be doing what he was doing Kai kinda got what he wanted at the start chameleon was just greedy and Shen was just clinically insane but tai lung was right.

    After watching all three of the Kung Fu Panda films, I can definitely say that Shen was my favorite villain from the series. Not only was he smart, powerful, and threatening, he was also Po's most personal enemy. And if it wasn't for Shen's actions, Po may never have existed, and Tai Lung would've gotten his revenge.

    Thank you someone else who doesn't think this movie was that bad, I mean common it may be the weakest of the 4 but the biggest reason is because of nostalgia, a lot of OG characters didn't return (mainly furious five) and sure they should have done the chameleon a bit more like Shen, but it still looked really good, a small step up from 3 and it was just supposed to start a new adventure weather we watch it or not, so yes it's not the best but only for nostalgia and by itself it's definitely good, and this film did not ruin the franchise unlike Megamind 2 I mean common at least we got Jack Black back, and he still played the role amazingly, so everyone needs to calm down.

    • @GhostNiteFN
      @GhostNiteFN  Před měsícem

      She said people told her she was too small. But looking at mantis that proves that's false. Mantis became who he is through the training of Shifu. I bet if mantis went to other places they would of denied him because of his size. I think it just proves that anyone can do kung fu same with Po how they had doubt in him in the first film because he was fat and all. But the Chameleon instead took it a more evil approach I guess. I think if you analyze it, it can make sense but like I said, they don't deep dive of her back story much

    Shen for me is number 1. Shen is lustful so that was why he turned bad. Shen is very weak on his own as compared to the other villains.
    Tai Lung is only fit for the 'bonus'. Because his outburst was caused by Shifu, and then he redeemed himself in 4. Of all of the villains, Tai Lung is not seen as one of them, for Tai Lung is Shifu's student and a master in his own right.

    I agree with this list both Tai Long and Lord Shen are both best villains. As much I love Tai Long and show how angry and lost he is, but I feel like Shen is more evil he kills all the pandas because he would be defeated by a warrior with black and white. For Kai and the chameleon Kai is more better than the Chameleon because Kai actually has a back story of how he became evil and we didn't get to see the Chameleon back story. Kai wanted power I believe what made Kai wanting more power is he was corrupted by getting power, the chameleon just wanted to steal powers from other villains because she wanted to be the most powerful villain in china, that doesn't really make sense. What I think what they could have done better with the Chameleon is give her her back story more of a understanding point and idea of what she wants, For example Lord Shen wanted to use gunpowder for fireworks, Tai Long wanted the Dragon Scroll because Shifu train him to but didn't stan up for him that's an example of what the villains want. But now that it's confirm that kung Fu panda is supposed to have six movies I feel like kung Fu panda is gonna be ruined which should of stayed three movies but I could be wrong that's just my thoughts though.

    I hate how much hate there is for the Chameleon. She's not a bad villain. She's an underdeveloped villain. @Alex-ng6hc Před 17 dny

      @addictedtofauna3838 What you say is true. Tai Lung was fueled by desire, whereas Po was fueled by passion. However, the Chameleon can relate with Po because she, too, was ridiculed for her size and status. She let rejection fuel her anger and followed a darker path with a deep hatred for kung fu masters, something that Po could've done if he let that happen to him. But I suppose it's a contentious argument

    My list is the same in terms of rank. Although I didn't like Kai as much for me he was more like 6-7 out of 10. I feel like people focus too much on his theme, and his connection with Oogway, which while good isn't enough to make me think he's much better than your average animated kid's movie villain. Despite not having much to do in the 4th movie I feel like it actually still helped Tai-Lung and Shen a fair bit. It obviously helped Tai-lung more since he had an actual speaking role, but I like to think that they both learned the lesson of their mvies. I.e. Tai-Lung learned that he didn't need the scroll or the title to be special and already was. Also if he met with Oogway I'm sure Oogway would tell Tai-Lung that Shifu was extremely proud of him since the moment he adopted him. He might actually tell him that Shifu's arrogance in Tai-Lung and his ability are actually what caused the problems. For Shen, I like to think that, without anything else to do, he actually took Po's advice and let go of the past, while trying to better himself. Which I think would have led to him achieving inner peace. It would then make sense that he'd respect Po and be grateful to him for guiding him to peace in his afterlife. For Kai, I guess he respects that Po beat him handedly and he probably also respects that Po gave him and the other villains their Kung Fu back since He probably had the ability not to. Also, The Chameleon was ok, pretty generic animated kids' movie villain 5-4 out of 10. The main reason I think she might be weaker than average is because her reasoning is the dumbest thing in these movies. She claims that she was too small, but Master Mantis and master squirrel (Who hasn't even been referenced in a previous movie) exist, it would still work if she said that was the reason, due to insecurity or something, but we were shown or told that that wasn't the case. Like how Shen says that his parents hated him although the Soothsayer says that it pained them, Possibly to literal, death when they had to banish him. Not to mention, the fact that it still doesn't hold up if they don't since she can change her body type. Like when she became an Elephant. It would have made more sense if she was just bad at Kung Fu and didn't want to put the work in, that Po did. So decided to take the easy way out. They tried to make a parallel between her and Po loving Kung Fu (And Kung Fu Masters) and wanting to learn it, but being refused or ridiculed due to their body types, although again it completely falls apart when she can just change whenever she wants. It also would have been nice to have more backstory. A big question I had is why is her lair distinctly non-Chinese when everything else, including Juniper City, is still very Chinese-looking. It would have been cool to see that. Maybe she's from outside of China. I want to say her lair looks Aztec, although I don't know enough about Aztec architecture to say, also Chameleons are only found in Africa, Asia and Europe. While that doesn't necessarily mean that she's not from South or Central America it does make it less likely.

    Kung Pu Panda 4 in my opinion, was excruciatingly mid. The dialogue was kinda crap, and while there was some cool action scenes, it doesn't make up for how dull the villain is. the Chameleon just pushed someone down the stairs and expected everyone to find her menacing. Also, she wasnt well developed, considering the fact she IS the big bad of the film. The only thing I liked about the chameleon personally was the fact that she doesnt relate to the theme of the movie, which is change. She can physically change into anybody but not on the inside. Also, Zhen wasnt really as bad as I thought she was gonna be. Pretty ok character, just not comparable tp the others. 6/10
