Crispy Fried Red Onion | Fried Shallots Recipe | Resep Bawang Goreng Renyah

  • If you go to some Asian countries like Indonesia, Malaysia or Thailand, you will often see fried shallots as a condiment to various dishes. Just like Sambal, fried shallots enrich the taste in your mouth and bring the dish to another level. Likewise, Fried Red Onion is a condiment for Rice Dishes like Biryani/Briyani rice.
    Example of dishes that can be served with Fried Shallots/Fried Red Onion:
    Hat Yai (Southern Thai) Fried Chicken, Soto, Soup, Beef Stew, Fragrant Rice, Turmeric Rice, Mandi Rice, Biryani Rice, Goat Curry, Chicken Curry, etc.
    If you are Mark Wiens' Fans, you probably have watched him eating Hat Yai Fried Chicken and he said "Crispy shallots are one of the most fragrant food on earth!" (Mark Wiens, 2020)
    Because shallots is rare and expensive here, i use red onion as alternative. They taste quite similar, but not exactly identical. The cooking technique is the same. The red onion will just take longer time to fry because of its thickness and more water content.
    Ingredients:
    Shallots/Red Onion
    Salt
    Frying oil (vegetable oils like Canola/Sunflower/Palm)

    Tidak hanya di Indonesia, kalau Anda berkunjung ke beberapa negara Asia seperti Malaysia atau Thailand, Anda akan menjumpai bawang goreng sebagai pelengkap menu hidangan. Seperti halnya Sambal, bawang goreng memperkaya rasa di mulut kita dan masakan akan terasa lebih istimewa. Bawang goreng dari Bawang merah besar banyak digunakan sebagai pelengkap nasi Briyani.
    Contok masakan yang dihidangkan dengan bawang goreng:
    Ayam goreng Hat Yai (Selatan Thailand), Soto, Sop (kambing/ayam), Semur daging/ayam, Nasi Uduk, Nasi Lemak, Nasi kuning, Nasi Mandi, Nasi Briyani, Kari Kambing, Kari Ayam, dll.
    Karena bawang merah kecil sangat jarang dan mahal sekali di sini (New Zealand), saya menggunakan bawang merah besar (seperti bawang bombay tapi yang merah). Rasanya mirip walaupun tidak benar-benar sama. Cara masaknya juga sama, hanya saja bawang merah besar lebih lama digoreng kareng lebih tebal dan kandungan airnya lebih banyak.
    Kalau anda penggemar Mark Wiens, anda mungkin pernah menonton videonya dan dia mengatakan, "Bawang goreng adalah salah satu masakan paling harum di dunia."

    I love the way you present this video. Showing the cooking as well, about how long to cook it and not just say "3 minutes", "5 minutes"! I will try this, thank you very much!
