I hope a third klonoa game focuses on klonoa himself considering everything he goes through in the two games plus psychological impact and what that might imply for klonoa I'll keep this vague not to spoil newcomers for the story

I started playing this game last night and boy is it great. The controls are tight and the overall aesthetic of the game is very pleasing to look at. Phantasy Reverie Series is a faithful remaster to the first two original Klonoa games. It's also a love letter to the PS1 and PS2 action/adventure platformer era. Highly recommend for those interested in picking it up!

Its as great as I remember it.....I believe it was in the 90s the first game came out, and I had never heard of it, but picked it up because it looked interesting.....and ended up playing it alot....Ive gotten alot of great games (and some bad ones lol) going with my gut. Lol
This franchise totally passed me by, but looks great fun. Big into 3D platformers! Will definitely be picking up at some point; Base has it up for a cracking price (vs. other retailers)!
Reminds me of a game I used to love on the ps1 called Tombi! or Tomba! in other regions. I'd love a remake of those two games for switch, but sadly I don't think they were popular enough
Agreed! it was Tomba! in the U.S. and it was a really fun game. Def needs a remaster.
I love Tomba! Always glad to come across others that actually know what I'm talking about with that series. I owned a demo of the first one that I was obsessed with as a kid and several years later, I was able to get a cheap used copy of Tomba! 2 which I still have and still works.

I bought this game this morning and been having a blast with it. I love the cute designs and the performance on the switch is pretty good even in Handheld mode but my only complaint is that it's $39.99 for 2 games while the portal collection is only $19.99 for 2 games. Just hope that we get the GBA klonoa games.
Valve gave away portal 1 pretty often.

I went with the Series X knowing the performance issues on Switch. Hope they can get it ironed out cause this series deserves nothing but the best.

Yeah, I tried the demo out of curiosity and the constant stuttering was very distracting - definitely dissuaded me from buying the full version. I might have been more likely to overlook this issue if the games didn't look like cleaned-up PS2 games, but there is zero reason for the framerate to not be locked given the modest graphical/gameplay complexity here. I might pick it up on a heavy discount down the line, especially if they patch out the issues. Needs major patching.

Definitely would like to get this duology! (still remember playing Klonoa 2 on the PS2 demo disc that came with the console back in 2001).
Found it for £37 at The Game Collection which isnt too shabby.
Will try out the Switch demo first before deciding between Switch or PS5 versions. Although I feel Switch will win out purely as it offers handheld play and I think I'd survive the frame pacing issues.

Picked it up for my steam deck. Game looks and plays great! Loved these games when I was a kid.
I was planning on playing the Demo on PS5, but I would like to see how it runs on the Switch as well.

Now, was this performance review based on the demo or the commercial release? Because I do recall the demo being based on an earlier, less polished build of the game.

I had it on the Wii and became a fan of Klonoa. Seeing the visuals bumped up to HD like this is so pleasant to see.
Kind of steep on the price. Unfortunately would only get fans who don't mind paying that much for their IP. Hopefully there's a Sale soon for people who are seeing Klonoa for the first time.
i picked up physical on amazon for 30 pound and yeah i love it so much about time Klonoa got some love i just hope it sells well enough that namco noticed that people actually like these games lol but yeah is a great collection and im so happy we finally got it!

I can't wait to play this game again. I loved it from start to finish and now I even get a shot at the second one too wich I never got to play.
I can't believe I didn't see this release! I guess I forgot the name till recently, I had the second game on a demo disc and used to play the slide level so much. Can't wait to order a physical copy this week.
I have played about the first half of the first game and to me this looks great on the Switch. I did not notice the frame stuttering at all and to be honest thought you were a little over the top about how bad it feels. This is my first time with thr series and would highly recommend the Switch Port.
Play Klonoa2 on the Ps2 one time and you'll understand. The frame stuttering makes it nearly unplayable
@@solidust573 I understand that but to me there is no real frame rate stuttering, so it doesn't make it unplayable. If you want an unplayable example of frame rate stuttering or slow down try Kao the Kangaroo on Switch, then you will see an unplayable platforming gane. I had a day one update as well, I have noticed a few people on twitter saying their game is not updated to 1.0.1, I don't know if this is a common thing either.
I tried the demo because I couldnt pick up my copy yet. The pixel filter is pretty neat too and hides some of the stutter as well.
I got the game at midnight last night, and I must say. Im not disappointed at all.
The game on the handheld mode is near perfect. I have not had any stutter of any kind playing the game. The only stutter I've had was during the loading screen.
The graphics are also really good. They perfectly capture the bright and vibrant feel of the series as a whole. The Gameplay also feels very good and engaging. It also really gets you to think hard about your next moves and what you need to do to advance.
Hopefully I don't get stutters on TV mode though. Otherwise, this game is pretty much perfect. I give it a 10/10 score. It was worth the 6-month wait.

Maybe I'm seeing things but UK amazon has Klonoa Phantasy Reverie for 36.95, direct from amazon, the cheapest for 34.95 is from a seller.
Klonoa 2 is my favourite PS2 game so perhaps I notice this more than others would, but they’ve changed the physics and the reach of the ring and it’s really jarring if you’re very familiar with the game
One of my biggest dreams came true thanks to tha release on Switch. I was dreami g to have that game always with me. Door to Phantomile was my first game that I've got on PSX and it strongly resonates with my childhood. I was also dreaming about playing the second part, but I've never had PS2. Now I can play it on my OLED 😁 Almost finished Door to Phantomile already ❤️ Hope it will sell well and Namco will make a 3rd entry to the series ❤️

In terms of price it was actually $80 AUD and up here. It was also sold out everywhere in 2 days, managed to order a copy from the UK at a reasonable price.
I just bought this because I loved the first game, and Im happy with my purchase...Im not noticing any stutter, everything seems smooth to me.
I love Klonoa! I ordered a physical for ps5. Luckily I did considering the fps.
Keep in mind the price of the original games. Klonoa is over $100 usd in the states, and the second game isn’t far behind it.

I was sort of dreading this was gonna be 720p 30fps on Switch, so I think I'm happy with this as I don't really tend to notice frame pacing issues as I'm playing

I don't see how you CAN'T notice a constant hitching stutter, to me that's even more noticeable than 30 vs. 60 FPS (which I'm also amazed that some people claim they "can't see the difference" when to me it's night and day). Reminds me of somebody watching a VHS/SD channel blown up on their modern display and claiming they don't notice the poor image quality (well, maybe not that bad, but still).

I just noticed the performance issue you guys were talking about. Happened to me on the Mountains of Mira Mira stage. Screwed me out of my 150 dreamstone run on that stage. When I tried to double-jump, the jump button didn't register. I'm gonna have to bring this up with the developers somehow. Granted I am playing this on handheld mode. I'll try it again on console mode.
The frame paving issues aren’t that noticeable for me. That being said, when the switch’s more powerful successor comes out, will that fix the frame rate issues?
Unknown depends on both how BC works and if needed a patch to take advantadge of better hardware existing. I think even in current hardware a future patch could solve the issues tho
Possibly, if it's an issue with coding efficiency and the CPU/memory bandwidth being an issue with hitting the target framerate. Personally, I immediately noticed it when starting the demo, and with what we're dealing with here visually/gameplay wise, there is no reason the Switch shouldn't be hitting the framerate target nearly constantly, and that's not something I can say often about Switch ports. The Switch desperately needs a successor, sooner rather than later.
I've never played the originals but I've always wanted to since I saw 2nd game reviewed in PSM(unofficial Playstation magazine). I'll probably buy this at some point but I might wait for patches or a sale.

Lol, your copy/Switch was no different than any other - it had the same performance issues, you just overlook them/pretend they're not there. This game absolutely should be patched, the constant stutter is very noticeable to anybody with working eyes.
Played the demo and the jittery framerate for me was a serious issue. Had a headache by the end of the first level. Will probably buy this on my series s instead.
I love Klonoa games but I will wait until the price goes lower, thanks for the review of the game.
6:13 It’s called 2.5D games like Klonoa, Pandemonium, Napple Tale, Ultimate Ghost ‘N Goblins etc use that extra plane to good effect!

Bang on the money about just capping it at fifty, such a (I'd guess) simple fix and could make a big difference. I'm not usually particularly sensitive to frame rates but that did make me feel ever so slightly queezy playing the demo.
An option would be nice. Ideally, they should fix their code - that constant stutter is unacceptable. momentary low framerates are one thing, but hitching stutter is another. Personally if I had the choice I'd take a locked 50 over a sickness inducing stuttery pseudo-60 anyday.
Looks like it’ll be a good handheld experience. I’ve found my self less sensitive to framerate inconsistencies on the small screen and it looks like a good match for the oled screen.

In the US, Bandai Namco aren’t even releasing the Klonoa collection in physical or a demo for it.
It feels like Bandai Namco has taken a page out of old Capcom’s playbook for the worst when it comes to bad decisions[unless it’s Pac Man related].

started to play the demo. part I controls is a bit different to the og PS1 Game. Graphicalwise beautiful, the music is the same but sounds more cleaner than on the PS1 Version. Part II also different from the controls but a bit more smoother than part I remake🤔Leveldesign gorgious😍
I think pac-man head was a funny touch actually, maybe I've on happy binging everything NAMCO lately,. Also recommend cute ps1 tennis game smash court 3 released in JP only, with cute pacman and klonoa caracters and these characters drawings on court as well!! Can be played through retroach
Good thing this came out on other platforms and we're not forced to play this on that potato Nintendo tried to pass off as a console.

After about half hour of play I started to feel a bit sick. This was when I played docked and handheld. Hope they patch it for stability because I’m gonna have to play it 30 mins at a time 😀🕹

Got it this morning on ps5 it wasn't on the shelf though on any system at game 😍
I like the first game and play hell alot of it, one of the reason is the characters only talk like pokemon. But the second game they talk like it's a completely new languages, as if each character talk differently and everyone understand each other. 😅 kinda throw away the fun, imo
But, both have their own challenges and they are fun to play.
I do recommend turn off the tutorial, coz they popped up in every places, you dont need to read this game has to offer, you need to experience it yourself, as this is not a very hard game, a little trial and errror wont hurt much 😁
But you can read detailed info from the pause menu, just in case you wanna know some things, anyway have fun 😉
It's not 60 fps? I haven't noticed any performance issues at all but then again I don't know what I should be looking for regardless this game is gorgeous on switch

For all Patched Up; Kao the Kangaroo got patched with the autosave, HUD, and audio glitches fixed
Maybe revisit or maybe wait until Switch performance is worked on.
Man Switch needs new hardware. Good thing I can still overclock but I'd prefer more powerful and updated hardware now.
Finally a Wii and a PS2 game run 1080p/720p 60FPS on Switch like they're supposed to (*cough* Sonic Colors Ultimate *cough*).
Eingendlich Stört es mich nicht wenn die Bildrate nicht Konstant ist. Aber dieses schwanken der FPS macht mich Wahnsinnig. Das ging dann so weit das ich ab Level 3 nicht mehr weiter Spielen konnte. Ich hoffe mal das es noch gefixt wird.

For patched up, world war z adding horde mode was good.
i do hope the stutter can get fixed via a patch since these are some fantastic games but the performance did make it feel somewhat "off" compared to the originals.
Looks decent, but I'm actually more interested in the next All Patched Up video! Can't wait to see which games have been improved over time and are worth giving a second glance

I think it's worth mentioning to as a general thing but supposedly there's some minor frame rate and freezing issues on PS4 as well for some bizarre reason.
Feels like they didn't get much time to focus on optimisation. Because PS4 at the very least should not be having any issues with this at all.
As far as I'm aware, PS5 is the only version that is apparently flawless in regards to peformance.
PC your mileage may vary but also worth looking at if it matters a lot to you.
