Another great and fair review! From what I can tell, the game seems to stay very true to the show, and it's nice to see licensed games review all right, since that's not always a given. It's also appreciated that you took the extra time to put the latest patch to the test, and that it seems to improve things at least somewhat on the performance front.
Amazing review! I love seeing beloved franchises be expanded in such fun and wacky ways! I’m a little disappointed to see the performance issues, but I’m sure this game will be creating some core memories for any kid that picks it up!
Thank you for the (updated) review! The footage in the background looks lovely, and the sceneries super creative, but given the drawbacks when you're actually playing it yourself I'm not rushing to get this. Maybe when I'm feeling a bit more nostalgic, though!😊

A shame it’s got a few faults, but it looks like a fun enough little game, I’m a fan of the graphical style they went with! SwitchUp reviews are always reliable, cheers guys!
Id say it's a decent game when it goes on sale. Kids will definitely love this one. Kids care not for faults as long as it's fun. 😄
The hub part of the game reminds me of the Toy Story 3 game for the Wii when you’re in toy box mode. Unfortunately my daughter saw this review so now I have to share my switch. Lol She has recently started watching your guys videos with me every time the bell goes off. Have a great day guys!
Oh my god there was a Toy Story game for the Wii?? Was it actually good?
@@Anni_ka I never got to far into the actual story mode, but the Toy Box mode was fun. You played as the different toys running around preventing robbers from breaking into Woody’s bank. You could also go explore and find hidden treasures throughout the map.

I really like the look of this. I hope they can further improve on the framerate issues. Some of the platforming segments, like the skyscraper section, kind of remind me of Blue Fire
Im sure they'll patch up the framerates someday. This is one for the "All patched up" video. A favorite of many. XD
Always like the way you guys score thing. I feel it’s fair and the way you split the scores means a great game with the odd issue doesn’t just get a low score like other reviewers.

When I were young games used to come out finished. And on 4 to 8 floppy disks plus a blank for saving. Kids today don't know they're born.

You should try out spongebob battle for bikini bottom rehydrated aswell, it's the prequel to this game

This one is not for me, but i do want to thank you guys for your hard work; going back to capture more gameplay on the newest patch after the video was done when you could've just mentioned it and save an hour, it's very much appreciated and one of the reasons as to why i trust your reviews. My six year old loves Spongebob and he enjoys playing Battle for Bikini Bottom on GC. I didn't get the remastered Switch version as I heard even the physical has quite a big download. Any chance you could add physical version download sizes to reviews? Just to get an idea, I realise when patches release the figure will go up. I'll probably end up getting this anyway as I'm sure the nipper will love it! Nice one.
SpongeBob games (almost all of them) are very creative and its great to see another game from them.

This is true, even the one on the vita was pretty creative. However I will say over the years they have really opened these games up and added better content that really makes a big difference
I've seen it for a very good price on a familiar online shop and might actually get it. I haven't been playing a 3D-Platformer since A Hat in Time and this game might be a good one to play whenever I don't have much time or just want something lighthearted.
Felt like a different universe since the last time I played a SpongeBob game, if the comedy holds up as good as it used to I'll definitely add it to the wishlist👍

This definitely looks better than the last game. I tried and gave up on the other one. My kids like these ones but never really been a spongebob fan myself, not my era. I can appreciate a good platformer though and may play this at some point. Cheers for a good and honest review, it absolutely helps having a clearer idea regarding switch versions.

Looks like they replaced the hazy lowrez-ish look of rehydrated with a bit sharper look but with lower detailed textures which I think is great. Just hope they iron out the performance issues a bit more!
It's uncanny how after the review a patch suddenly drops. You guys are too good and too fast at what you do that developers can't keep up. Lol! Seeing your review I have to agree on most points, I think what makes it stand out more than the others is the nostalgia it has (like pokemon for some) and even though it's not as good you'll buy it for the memories it brings :)
Nothing to do with the reviewers. Everything to do with the game being rushed and not play tested properly. But hey. Take your money and fix it later. There are much worse examples of course but it's pathetic that these companies cannot project manage, test game engines properly early in development or do proper Q&A
I wasn't sure if the pauses were to do with the game, the capture card or issues with the video on my end. Now that I know that it's mainly an issue with the game itself, I'll probably get this game on Xbox and hold off the Switch version, at least for now.

this is the kind of game that could be a great adding if we get an upgrade on the switch or a succesor for the console.
Was actually considering this one before I saw the performance issues. I love goofy platformers, and strangely there aren't nearly enough of them on the Switch. Oh well, looks like my wait continues :-(
if you can try to get it on other platforms till a patch comes out that caps the FPS

I was more a rugrat kid, we didn t have spongebob in my country or more precisely in my house. So never got the hype around the character. But it look like a cool game for the switch.

Solid review as always Mark. I am not a Spongebob fan but I am a 3D platformer fan so the performance issues are a shame. The variety aspect is cool though and I feel costumes/cosmetics are here to stay in these games now.

Battle for Bikini Bottom was nothing to write home about tbh. I picked it up on sale just to get my hands on all the collectibles in the special edition. I'll wait for the 70% off to pick this one up.

I'll probably get this on my Xbox just for the better performance. I'd love to play it on Switch, but I just can't deal with the frame drops anymore. If a game has a better performing option, I'm at the point where I'm now taking that primarily over a Switch version. Looking forward to Nintendo's next gen. They need it and hopefully will start it up before they milk the cow all the way and lose all momentum

Wasn't Battle for bikini bottom actually good? I have a bunch of liscensed games on Gamecube. I haven't played through most of them though.
Not for me particularly (I've never watched Spongebob!) but possibly a sale pick-up, I could see my nephews and niece enjoying this one and all its wackiness!
I don't usually obsess over graphics, but they do look a bit unusual in this one, I would not have guessed it's a modern game really😅 but that seems to happen more and more lately
its going for that Crash 4 look i like to call it its very stylized and cartoony

I can’t get over the glove on the head that episode was SO frustrating to watch lol. Game doesn’t attract me massively but looks like a funny game thats nice for just a casual play.

Nice to see that you can turn off the voice lines. More games should include that option. I still have "I am Ferdinand von Aegir" stuck in my head from everytime I selected that guy each turn in Fire Emblem Three Houses
That audio level will most likely turn off all the speech though which is a pain. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt Hmm thats too bad. I get that they wouldnt let you toggle off individual voice lines, but maybe including an option for lowering the chance of the voice lines playing might have been better then.

@@SwitchUpYt Full honesty, it's been refreshing to not have any COVID related things to do, back to actually teaching and doing all my Tech & Engineering projects. But also, extremely exhausting as far as the system and issues we all read about. But, I have a good job I do enjoy and I have *some* down time to slowly catch up on SwitchUp. You guys are an inspiration!
My kids mom played the one on GameCube for ages. She wasn't even into games, but for some reason, that one gotter.

SpongeBob is one of those IPs that I have absolute no attachment to and I feel like that could be the main selling point of the game 😅. I have tendency to buy games out of nostalgia and never play them (like Crash Bandicoot trilogy or Spyro trilogy) but SpongeBob is not one of them 😅. Outside of memes I don't think I know anything about the cartoon 😂. But I will say this looks very nice!

64,8% of games I own are in my backlog at the moment (Switch only) so I figured it would be nice to knock it down to 50 before letting myself loose with purchases 😋

Personally speaking, I rarely actually play a game upon release, since I have to be in the mood for that game at that time, which happens rarely xD But if you collect physical goodies like the occasional steelbook or Collector's Edition, the second hand market is no option, so I usually feel compelled to get stuff immediately, which has not been helping my backlog 😅

I've never watched a episode of SpongeBob do I don't have any nostalgia for it. I did watch someone play for the first three hours or so and it seems playable.
Of course my daughter sees this and is all excited haha.

Was considering this for a nephews birthday. There's something... unusual about the graphics 🙈 maybe it's the attempt to look similar to the cartoon, but there's so many times watching the footage here where there's big parts of the geometry filled with just a colour or a very simple texture. Looks odd.

Man I watched the series a lot but there were points/episodes were they just cranked his annoying mannerisms up to 10000% and I started to really sympathise with Squidward 🥲
