Getting my pre-order in this week and loving the reviews by everyone so far. Getting mine with the dock too as it will replace my current gaming pc. I'm hoping it's going to give me the gaming excitement back again I've lost the last few years.
Looking to buy this soon. Great review Saf
Your video looks aesthetically appealing😍. Really loved the background behind you
Had $788 in chase points so I ordered best buy gift cards. Selling my steam deck... The fact that I'll have access to all those games on gamepass pc was what sold me. This is gonna be my personal treat to go along with Diablo 4 releasing in June! Can't wait🙌
steam decks cant use windows?
Holy cow I’m amazed but I’ve never been an early adopter so like always I’ll take a wait and see approach. But all I can say is they did a incredible job putting this system together, I would pick up the top spec unit in a heart beat.
699 dollars for the high end version, this price is a great one for the specs its having... will purchase this one once available in our country
It really is a good deal for what you're getting!
@@SuperSaf is this better than an Xbox series X?
@@bendeguzvarga1912 No, it's more like a series S
@@bendeguzvarga1912how can you expect a handheld gaming device with 15watt to perform like series x???
I pre ordered mine already I can’t wait!
Such a great review! I really appreciate it!
Play all your games anywhere, anytime and have access to all the different games Libraries (GamePass Ultimate, Steam, Epic games, Ubisoft games etc) all in the palms of your hand. Accessibility and inclusiveness is key to bring games to everyone, especially if you don’t have the money to spend on a powerful PC. Great job ASUS. When we all play together we all win. Great review !
a powerful pc would only be like $300 more for substantially more performance. that’s why i’m gonna pick up the steam deck for $300 less than the ally. also have the option to dual boot into windows. also from what i’ve heard even aside from the mobo issues, i wouldn’t trust asus for a second. just my reasoning tho
@@logangagnier8937 ok
@@logangagnier8937 steam deck is weaker, less performance, less refresh rate, less resolution, less charging watt (slower charging) that's why Deck 64gb (80% less storage) is -45% price of Ally Extreme
The white color is so beautiful 😍
Pre orderd one already!! Cant wait
This is preet sweet. May have to check this out at some point!
legendary 😍👏🏻
I’m planning on buying this since I just finished college so I can work over summer.
Yes! Pre ordered one ☝🏼
I pre ordered mine today. I can’t wait. I came from the steam deck (that I love) but it can’t play Xbox game pass games. With this I feel like I can do so much more. I’m excited, and great video
All games run like 30fps More on this with higher settings over the Deck.
Elden Rings runs very smooth here. Definitely buying one as well.
I feel like we're about to witness the Game Gear of handheld gaming PCs with the ROG Ally. It's got more power, but worse battery life and jankier/less intuitive navigation than it's competition, the Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck was great but my of my favorite PC games weren’t even partially supported so. I was mostly playing some games that I kinda wanted to play. With the ROG Ally coming I’ll finally be able to play all of my favorite PC games on a handheld with even better settings than the Deck.
you can with a little bit of tinkering play game pass. But the Ally is sick for sure
@@sirdinkus6537I wish someone would do a battery test video and compare it to the steam deck. I'm not planning on buying one because I'm happy with my steam deck but I'm just curious
Hey.
Love your Channel,
Gould you test some sports games like fifa, madden, nba and so on??
Very good video.
Thank you!
Pre-ordered one and selling my Steam Deck as soon as the ROG Ally ships.
Ordered 😊
After watching some reviews of ROG ally, I decide to wait for 2nd generation of steam deck and ROG ally.
My boss on this
Waiting for your pixel fold video!
Soon!
Some youtubers having problem with input lag, do you had this kind of problem?
A lot of reviews say there is input lag while playing FPS?? Could you clarify on this issue. I will cancel my pre order if this is the case.
What a good video. 👍
Cheers mate 😎 👌
2weeks later I want to hear more about your experiences and less about specs. I can get specs at the initial review.
I thought Saf will upload a video on the new Pixel 7a... the SuperSaf-style camera comparison with the iPhone 14 will be cool :)
Sorry mate, still not got the Pixel 7a
@@SuperSaf No problems. I am waiting for the SuperSaf style camera comparison video :)
Will you be able to play games on tv or monitor via the rog phone 7 - through the dock
Nice one 👏
Look forward to the new Sony Xperia review
Love it
Does it support video over USBc? I plug my steam deck directly to my usbc port on my monitor with a single cable wnd it will slow charges while playing.
I would also reccomend ppl checking out *Ayaneo* and their lineup, for a more powerful handheld / alternative!
this video feels so sponsored but im excited to get my hadn on one!
Love my steam deck with windows on it iff a sd card that runs great.
Pre orederd My rog this morning from currys in the UK
This might be a stupid question, but can this play Xbox games you’ve purchased as a digital download? I keep hearing “Game Pass” but nothing on regular digitally purchased games. If it can then I may start buying all my Xbox games digitally!
Is it only for gaimg?... Or can i use it for video editing & 3d stuffs?
Can you pause game, turn off screen and and turn on screen to resume game? Similar to steamdeck or switch
Did you notice any input lag from the joysticks?
Nice I love it I want one ….🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm sticking with the Deck for a lot of reasons, mostly because I just bought it and don't have the funds for a new device, but also because the only reason I care about the Ally is it's performance boost, which in some cases is not as optimized as the Deck, at least not yet anyway. Since I'm already 90-95% satisfied with the Deck's performance, I'll be holding out for a while. Nice review tho
Z1 Extreme preorder successful in my household
But bestbuy says both comes with a 512GB SSD but diff CPU. Please clarify if Z1 model is 256GB or 512GB. Thanks
yes both have 512gb as confirmed today in the official announcement
Definitely buying this. Emulation gonna be killer on this.
Emulation is awesome, endless gaming
STOP STEEELING.
@@heretic0014 hhhh
@@SuperSaf you know it
Lol Emudeck sets up emulation for you and integrates it into Steam UU AND has a bunch of user friendly features. Nothing like that on ROG. ROG is overpriced overhyped trash.
I swore up and down there was no way they were gonna be selling a product that was "twice as powerful as the Steam Deck" at under $1000 and it seems I was partially correct. It's true that the price point they nailed is crazy at $700, but the Ally is definitely not 2X power.
Regardless, all the things Asus skipped out on, that the Steam Deck didn't, is why I'm not switching. Gyro, trackpads, extra back buttons, and an actually decent custom OS make all the difference.
Well actually it pushes 1080p gaming at the same settings as the steam deck at 720p with similar some better some worse fps so yeah that kinda is somewhat true that it is 2x as powerful because 1080p is more than 2x the pixel count as 720 so yeah
Steam OS is very limited unlike in Windows you can play any games in any platform even in steam all steam games is native 100% windows and probably 70% linux that is why there is verification in steam OS which windows doesn't have because you can play all games in steam in windows.
@@slimv3.162 Exactly, and well said.
In reality, beside maybe a few usage cases who needs all the extra buttons on the Deck? I certainly don't. Gyros are cool, but gimmicky and very little support. And Proton is not a decent OS. For all intents and purposes the Ally is better.
@@nathanjuan6042 Does that matter though? The steam deck is better in almost every way.
Being unable to play a few titles is not a big price to play for 200% performance at 10W, track pads, custom UI, custom OS, gyro, and back buttons
Finally someone that told the real thing "Handheld Gaming PC", its not a Console !
wait did he say it had gyro?. i didnt think it did but im even more excited to get mine if it does
what is the battery duration? How long can I play the game?
Do right thumb get cramped at right side while using joystick ?
Pre-ordered. Is it practical and do I need it? No. ... Do I like to tinker with toys? Yes.
This looks cool, If it had better battery life and custom software that gave me a console-like experience I might consider buying one or if the price was cheaper
Luckily for you, there's this hidden gem of a product called the "Steam Deck" that has all of those things.
Maybe stop being a poor and you can get one!
It is much cheaper and more powerful compared to the Aya neo 2 which is priced at like £1,000+ LOL the Asus rog ally is a steal it does everything at a great price all in one portable handheld pc just like the steam deck, I swear portable handheld gaming pc's are the future, forget laptops lol now that Sony has stopped making handheld consoles anyway let's see what the Nintendo switch 2 and steam deck 2 bring on in the future.
@@sirdinkus6537 I already own the steam deck I have the highest model. That's what I was referring to by a "console like experience".
Nothing comes close to the steam deck's OS, it's a console like experience.
The glare free screen is absolutely amazing!
@@lordj81poor? 😂
Bro I have the GPD win 3, I have the one xplayer, And I have the razor edge 5G!
I can pretty much afford whatever I want buddy!
I think you're the one who's poor because only poor people run around calling other people poor.
I own three businesse!
Nice try though loser!
When I was referring to the price I meant I would give it a try considering that I'm already happy with my steam deck, If it was cheaper I would give it a try but I'm not going to pay $700 for something that I might not end up playing that much because the steam deck already fills all my gaming needs.
A cheaper price might entice me to give it a try and if I don't like it it'll sit in a drawer like all my other handhelds. (Well aside from the razor edge 5g which I do play)
Razor edge is actually pretty awesome!
If I was poor I'd be posting my collection trying to sell than to get my money back like You probably do! 😂
Salam brother, you ran into my friend at Tesco extra car park a while ago, he came running into college screaming ”I MET SUPER SAF!!” And told me he took a photo with you😂😂
I feel like the steam deck give better option on controls!! The 2 track pads!! And the back buttons!! I mean a lot of people prolly don’t use em!! But at least it’s a option
Track pads are essential for shooting games, so so underrated features.
What can be done in the way of virus protection that wont hog resources?
There is definitely a lot of flaws not pointed in the video by CZcamsrs. Their processor isn't even custom to start off, they also require high amount of energy compare to the steam Deck to finally get higher performance. Asus is not being very transparent in their marketing unlike Valve.
it beasts the SD at 15W, the CPU is not custom but it is definitely more powerfula and efficient than the one from SD. what high amount of energy are you talking about?
for a 1080p device, it's performance is top notch and that is why most of the tech youtubers are very impressed by this little device
@@gamefun2525 That's cool but I honestly don't care about 1080p. I already have a PC that does 1440P at higher frame rate. What I need is a portable device optimize enough to handle AAA games while keeping up with battery and 1080p on a small screen is just the opposite of optimization, it is a waste of battery. I could use the full power while dock but when in handheld mode it seems like a waste. They could have at least increase the battery capacity and cut the cost in screen and other unnecessary marketing numbers meant to just attract unaware costumers.
I’m going to just wait for a steam deck 2. Really all I want from it is a slight power bump, slimmer bezels, and OLED. I know it’s not the most important but I don’t really like how the Ally looks, maybe it’s better in person. I didn’t love the look of the deck until I saw it in person. The truth is that for most games that you are going to play on this kind of device don’t really need more than a locked 60, an OLED would far more beneficial than 120 hz, and the 800p is good enough for the size but I’m sure full HD looks even better.
I think you’re going to be waiting a while
I hope when a SD2 happens, Valve could have fixed the cutscene upside down issues in Secret of Mana remake. I contacted Valve many times to report this issue and some other minor glitches, nothing got fixed so far. Funny thing is, the game is labeled as unsupported by Valve, but it runs flawlessly apart from the opening cutscene upside down issue. I just can’t understand the way Valve verification system works at all. I can’t say I dislike Valve, but they are definitely far from perfect. I really wish they will make all games work on their next system or whatever they release next time. I’m looking forward to see what future Proton can do to improve windows game compatibility. And, no upside down cutscenes.
That's true, i think for 2023 handhelds should be stick with 800p & oled rather than higher refresh rate, because the battery tech isn't ready, and its just wasting the cost production, and imo i think handhelds doesn't go to oled because the burning issue for long term used, i kinda i agree the rog ally design its like alien space which i don't like it, steam deck for me was matured but the problem are its bulky & looks big, i hope steam deck 2 comes with smaller size, bezelles screen, oled screen 800p, faster charger, quitter fan noise & of course better performance, i think everything else its already nice on steam deck 1.
One problem of steam deck is that its not windows and all PC games in any platform even in steam are 100% native windows while probably 70% Linux only that is why there is verification of games in Steam Deck while in ally there is none because it can run all games in steam that is why it needs long term support because of that issue. Ever wonder if some upcoming games is gonna work on steam deck or there is some games that you are waiting but is not sure if its gonna be playable in steam deck or not. You will not have that feeling in Ally because its a windows all games work on windows no bothering and checking for verification just wait for games to release and then its good to go.
I don't get either the ally or the steam deck if you're wanting to play online only games portably, but don't have internet or don't have net where using large amounts of data is prohibited... If there was a easy way to play off line xbox 360 games that would be something... (Yes.. xenia, but absolutely no clue and pirate games that I already have on disk...?)
anyone with 16gb ram running windows? I have 16gb on my mbp and it barely lasts. I do have a i7 and Intel processors are shit in my experience. Not sure if it's the ram or the Intel that causes my mbp to freeze up. Point is, would this 16gb work on this handheld running windows knowing you can't upgrade the ram? Or would the asus gaming laptop be a better choice.
I hope red magic team will come up with something similar to this
I have to get this , getting tired of carrying mt legion 5 pro everywhere
Wish they add option for 1tb version 🤨 512 is not gonna be enough for me

What platform is that TMNT Game on?? I MUST have this on my ally!!!
Xbox Games Pass
can i play my games (cod mobile) (warrobots) directly in google play with rog ally without downloading an additional emulator?? So can I play android games directly with ally without an emulator??
you can use powerbank for external battery likes steam deck?
Of course...
Anyone know how long the charging cable is?
Can I play Civilization 5 pc ( version) on Asus ROG Ally ?!!!. With thanks
ive heard there is a fair amount of stick delay in fps games. How much did you experience?
Never heard any reviewer complaining over that. And controllers speed responses are all adjustable.
@Powerhouse I was watching a review yesterday and I can't remember who, but they were playing halo infinite and call of duty as a display of fps, and the input delay between moving the stick and the screen rotation seemed like it was kinda slow
Thats not the only issue the ally is currently dealing with
@@agent47isn1 do you know what else is causing issues. I'll be buying either this or a steam deck soon
@@kylebaird9954 buttons stick, janky ui, not all games recognize that is a handheld and has Xbox controls, doesn't last very long, doesn't play games better than the deck at 15 Watts which is default settings lol
Ps2 and GameCube emulation how long we looking at roughly?
3 to 4 hours of emulation
Watch the alley, won't get a lot of support the way Valve does for steam deck...its not a big deal playing 1080p to 720 it really depends on the game of choice and how much power one is willing to sacrafice
One problem of steam deck is that its not windows and all PC games in any platform even in steam are 100% native windows while probably 70% Linux only that is why there is verification of games in Steam Deck while in ally there is none because it can run all games in steam. That is why Steam Deck needs long term support because of that issue. You will not have that feeling in Ally because its a windows all games work on windows no bothering and checking for verification just wait for games to release and then its good to go. You don't need that much support on windows unlike in Steam OS which is Linux base.
Can it run:( beam ng drive) ? It requires a extremely high prosser
Wondering if anyone has tested Diablo 4 server slam on one of these?
Can you extend the battery life by connecting a power bank to it?
Probably not because you'd have to have a power bank strong enough to charge it
yes you can, just buy a 65w battery bank
I think he can't say anything negative about the ROG Ally since he is sponsored by ASUS, but if something breaks within the handheld good luck dealing with CS and their warranty void issue. I also do want to mention that the one thing that is lacking what the Ally don't have is the sleep feature, which is important if you have to stop what you are doing and resuming back on the games you play.
Reviews on Google and CZcams show that it's overhyped and underwhelming at best. It's not a Steam Deck killer, it's not even a competitor.
@@TheMahayanist better than steam deck
@@icy5982 Yes until the battery dies after an hour. Even running a game at the same wattage as the steam deck which is 15 w It still has way worse battery life.
People think power is everything,, ..it's not
@@mrhow2712 power Banks solve that problem. Deck is still good but can't play latest generation games very well. The Ally is the solution.
The sleep mode is a killer app, the ability to put it into sleep mode in 1 second and another second to start the game where you left off, is so cool, Microsoft have been trying to do that in years, but have never managed to do it well and reliable.
Plane is a no go for an hours worth of gaming unless you have a plug with you.
It looks like decent hardware though to be fair.
You can optimise it to get more gameplay, at lower watts its close to the steam deck with the same setting, if you're playing AAA games then yes its shocking 😂
Why is “ 2 weeks later “ in the title if this video has absolutely nothing to do with having the it for 2 weeks?
Windows should make the way free for more of these devices with a windows lite version , still I think I gone go for the steamdeck this summer. Pricewise it much cheaper and most games I play are allready running by steam. 699 dollar is a nice price but in europe it's 799 . So NO
Can you try destiny 2? I need to know it can handle for this game.
The steam deck can as long as you're on windows so I'm sure this can too
Can you play PS games here?
Can it run with RTX? At least all minimal settings and 720p fsr?
Good question I'm guessing no
Better then steam deck? 😮 i have steam deck cant be ask sell that to get this or shall i?
Hey man can you please at least crank up the texture settings to high/ ultra .
I think it only has 4 gb vram so no modern games can run past at most medium.
Nikhil Chinappa is that you?
My only real complaint is the 1920x1080 display. Retro gaming gets far smaller black bars on 1920x1200. Small nitpick is probably the memory. An option for 32gb of LPDDR5X would get you a little more performance and would be more future proof.
Dude 32 gigs of ram is dumb games barley use 16 and also it's ddr5 and games use even less also go up in res not down it becomes a better aspect ratio
@@itsquiwi8780 and does the amount of RAM that games use go up or down with time?
is it also safe to play it while charging?
Yes it is like a laptop that has bypass charging
720p good for a handheld as it helps performance a lot.
Yeah 1080p screen and then you have to ended up switching to 720p looks far worse than the deck and Switch does, man imagine if Switch has a 1080p screen but most of the time the games run at 720p and 540p which make it even far more worse, the switch occasionally run some games at 540p and 480p but it the screen resolution kinda mask that problem.
I have a question I saw and another video that The power was still dropping while it was plugged in to the device is that something that's been happening with you? And hopefully that doesn't happen to me hopefully this is the software update fix
I expected it to be 999. It’s insane that the price was just 699
Only 780$ after tax thats super cheap😅😅😅
Yes that is still cheap, remember these handhelds were 1000+Eur before the Steam Deck arrived.
Everyone complains about battery life.. honestly are you gonna game on this for more than an hour and a half? And if so... why wouldnt a small 5000mah anker battery pack not be a great addition to extend this? Ppl act like theres no solution...
@@chrisc2252 how many hours would you recommend playing this while plugging in?
Next.. ROG Phone 7 please...
699 for windows updates installing stuff you do not need… Still good device from the specs and early reviews.
In my honest opinion after watching this review I feel like the Rog ally has some potential but not a lot. It's cool that they give u a lot of memory and the option to hook it up to ur monitor or TV, but all that is pointless of the battery life don't last long. I think it's kinda stupid that u have to play with the settings in order to save more battery life. U should be able to play at the highest setting without having to worry about the battery life. Even tho the price is fair for all that u get. I still think it's not entirely worth it of your jus going to play games or jus use it as a computer. I have have the logitech G cloud and it pretty much does the same thing as the rog ally and it's cheaper. It also has a higher battery life and a sleep function. The only thing I could really complain about it ia the memory but that's easily fixable.
"Other devices in this category only have a 720p display"?
All other devices in this category (portable x86) except one have 1080p or greater.
Wow. In Germany it's 799,99 Euro
ROG is actually the best device in the GAME. Sony Playstation wasn't 1st gaming console in the beginning.
Now how u upgrade memory
Open it and pit a mew SSD inside, already a video out there showing how easy it is
Why sunglass black eye much
Steam deck ftw! The ally is pretty cool and I hope it’s successful because I’d like to see how Asus will upgrade it is the future but I will be sticking with the deck for now
Same!
