Toyota's NEW SUV Just Changed Everything

- Toyota just destroyed the American SUV market, and things are about to get ugly for Ford, GM and Jeep. Over the past few months it seems like the SUV wars have really heated up. Ford revealed the New Bronco Raptor, the Jeep Wrangler got a facelift, Chevy released the new Blazer and now after years of Toyota not selling a Land Cruiser in North America Toyota dropped the most anticipated SUV reveal in the last 3 years. With the 2024 models coming out later this year, that more than likely means there could be some deals on the previous generation Land Cruisers. So I went down to my local Toyota dealer to check some things out and see if I could find any Land Cruisers on the lot.

It’s sad that $55,000 is now seen as a good deal for the base model of a new SUV.
53 for the top pilot.
Actually, no, it’s not sad. This is the iconic Land Cruiser. If they put in the same thoughtfulness, reliability, ruggedness, that they put in the original Land Cruiser? Without all of those unnecessary frills? It’s not a sad day for a Toyota 4x4 enthusiast. It’s celebration time.
Murchandising...murchandising
@007diego2 but they didn't, the 1958 is al cheap plastic not worth 55k, landcruiser name or not
Or $65K once the dealership puts their additional mark-up on it.
$45K for an FJ Cruiser that's ten years old? What planet am I on?
A dust ball full of idiots
For real my jaw dropped.
That’s a Trail Teams Ultimate Edition. It’s the last model year color and it’s rare. Low mileage versions have recently gone for $70k plus.
@@holeinjuan1644 The more ya know I guess. I just could never see paying that kinda money for an FJ...
@@red0death1that clean and rare with an everlasting engine.
I don't blame them at all.
The price of new cars is out of hand.
As the dealer lots slowly fill, dealers will start to go broke because they can't sell enough of these over priced vehicles to stay a float. All of the brand's are overpriced right now.
Not Toyotas
@@leonstokes6126doesn’t matter what brand. They will all suffer. You haven’t been through a recession have you?

The dollar is losing buying power. I did an oil change for my Lexus GX460 at the Lexus dealer yesterday, and got charged $190, also they tried to sell me a cabinet air filter change for $175! I bought the most expensive air filter from auto parts store and changed it in less than 1 minute for less than $20. I have to say we all love car dealers
No it’s not. You got ripped. You need to learn how to DIY. It saves $$$ and my valuable time. Dealership jobs are basically welfare.
Exactly, you were ripped. Why would anyone ever pay the dealer for an oil change?
Nope, those are just classic stealerships
Nice ride you got 😮
I used to work at a Toyota dealer in 2012 and Lexus owners used to get their oil changed there all the time for a lot less than their dealership charges lol. It's just oil, not sure why they charge some much. The dealers were across the street from each other.
My guess is that by the time they hit the market the base will be slightly higher, maybe even low $60,000. Then the dealerships will add their $15,000 markups for things customers don't want, such as nitrogen filled tires, paint protection, etc.. Now we're looking at around $75,000. What a bargain.....NOT!
Yep. Then they'll be back in the same boat they were in before. Not to mention they want people to pay $60-70k for a 4cyl hybrid Land Cruiser.
I’ll need a NA V6 option or I’ll just keep driving my 100 series.
Agree and all those things are BS items anyways. I got new tires recently at a tire shop and they filled them with nitrogen for free. I didn't ask for it. Dealers are rip offs. I will not buy a car with market value markup crap. Good thing I'm don't need a vehicle.
Facts right here
For sure. Prices will have to drop someday. Look at past history.
Also, dude is talking TOYOTA and gets into a Yellow Jeep.
If I'm spending that kind of money, I'm getting a Lexus.
My goodness
You're not getting a Land Cruiser type of SUV from Lexus for $50k. The LX models hold their value really well unless you get an older one.
I hate their front ends.
No way I’m spending $80 grand for a vehicle. You can have it.
People are buying Jeeps for that much. Crazy times.
This reminds me of when GM came out and said the base vette was $59,999.....but theyre all $100k
And the rear end looks like trash. haha.
Not quite a $100,000k ... and you gotta remember, no one ever orders a base Vette.
My son recently purchased a Toyota certified 2018 Sienna with 35K miles for $29 K plus tax. An independent auto technician also inspected it and said it was in outstanding condition. I guess that it was reasonably priced in this completely insane market!
We got a 2022 new for $47k and it was expensive at the time but it is what it is
Still a ridiculous prices these car companies are insane
But way better than the price of the old 200 series.
Stay patient man, these interest rate hikes should cause a much needed correction.
The news I got from this is that Toyota dealers are now used vehicle dealers, and they are also overpriced used vehicle dealers.
So is everyone else.
The upgraded model that everyone's going to want will cost you more than $80,000. #Ridiculous
Id rather buy tho bas model !
That does not sound correct to me the fully loaded off road trim for the gx550 (the Lexus land cruiser Prado) is rumored to be around 75k...
Totally insane prices on all of them. Toyota, Porsche Jeep etc. I feel a recession coming on where greedy car manufacturers will get hurts. Look at all the Ram / Jeep vehicles on hand now.
Nah. They get bail outs.

I can't even get a basic pickup truck for work under 50K CDN now.
At 45k would have been a hit. 55k for cloth seats wont make me buy it. Buyer at 45k
A well equipped RAV4 is $50K
The new Land Cruiser is the love child of an FJ and a 4Runner, with a corolla motor in it. I think the better part of it slid down the crack in the 4runner.
$55,000? have they lost their Fn minds? Im out!
55 K for a base model ! Yet another unaffordable overpriced luxury SUV for the US market. So what's new about this? 🙄
Car prices are just not worth the car/truck your buying anymore. You know your getting ripped off big time before you even start looking. Shit needs to get realistic.
Add on an 8% rate and your payment is outrageous.
Does it now make sense that OEM's will be bankrupt by 2025
Don’t worry, the dealers will jack this up!!
another commenter that doesnt understand, this has nothing to do with dealers. Its like blaming a movie theatre for hating a film. The people who are scamming you are Manufacturers, Finance Banks and their Government Lobbies. If you could see the PNL sheet for an avg dealer, you might understand they are undeserving of all the hate...
I do not, for one minute, believe that they will sell the 58 for only in the "Mid $50s". As you show, 200s are way more than that and it's cheaper than many Wranglers and Broncos.
There will be market adjustments and less scrupulous dealers will plate them and then sell them as used with 500-1000 miles. And those used ones will weirdly cost $70K-$80K.
You’re probably right on.
I have never heard of driving a vehicle 500 miles just to plate it used. The dealers have been pretty free so far in adding near worthless protection packages for $5000 as well as ordering the vehicles totally loaded up with options to increase the profit. I was on a long waitlist for a Hybrid Highlander and kept looking in the meantime. One dealer had what I wanted but needed $10k over msrp. I took 1 second to say no and immediately it was only $5k. I waited for the one I already ordered which included a $500 Costco discount that had gone awsy in 2023 but was there when I ordered in '22. Mark Miller Toyota in Salt Lake City was an honorable dealer.
Prices are ridiculous!
I love your channel! You give consumer reports a real run for its money. This is what you could call real journalism. Thanks for what you do!
believe me. With the mark ups Toyota dealerships are asking. A lot of people will be looking elsewhere for an offroader.
I'm just confused people are buying the GM Blazer! 😂😂😂😂😂
Yea, I can’t believe he brought up the blazer in the same breath when mentioning the bronco and wrangler! It’s just a crossover built in Mexico and china 🇨🇳 😂
That 3-cylinder turbo is to die for. 🤮
And I've owned 6 Chevrolets over the years.
The 200 Series just went up in value, as well as the FJ and soon to be old 4Runner. These are all part of final generation of very special Toyotas.
And the beginning of planned-obsolescence-era Toyota.
I think he made the point at how much those other dealers are not screwed, lol. 3 years old and Lc200’s are still going for MSRP. The new full size Land Cruiser (LC300) is in the USA as the Lexus LX600 and is in worldwide back order. This video was unconvincing in backing up the title of the segment, lol.
this has become my favorite channel - great content, keep it up!
That Land cruiser white one on Porsche lot was very expansive , as in 2020 this Toyota NEW did not cost 89 000$, so yes, a dealer is a dealer, its a place were You get ripped off in style of a Zombie , all the way to the bone. TH
Thanks for taking us to your local dealers. FJ was beautiful, Land Cruiser is $$$. Let’s see how these 2024s perform!!!
There is big trouble in car land. Repos are up, time on lot are up, inventories are up. Wait.
Yeah. With all the hoopla and the fact dealers won't stock the base model and then jack up the prices they'll be closer to 100k.
Bankrupt by 2025
another ignorant comment that doesnt understand auto commerce. Its not dealer's fault.... blame Manufacturer, Finance Banks and their Government Lobby
The MANUFACTURER chooses to build X number of base model, or Y number of fancy more expensive models... They are the ones who KNOW, more would be sold if more were built at base price. Dealers just want to sell cars, theyd rather sell more of the base models but they dont get to choose... you know why? Because MANUFACTURERS make more money selling a fancy car with ABC Jetson's Amenities rather than a base model... Ask yourself, WHO is the demographic that keeps buying more and more expensive space shuttle cars? .... Dealers arent the one "jacking up prices" ... quit blaming hard working people who have ZERO to do with these prices...
I'm not paying that price for a vehicle total bullshit 900.00 dollar a month for 8 years😊
Making videos saying that $55,000 is a good starting point is not helping. In no way is that affordable for any middle-class person. You were talking about monthly payment for six year at 700+ dollars per month.
Try a payment of $1,100+.
And I agree. My next car will be around $12,000.
Pay cash baby!
I used to sell at a Toyota dealer back in 2007 and those land cruisers were expensive back then. If I remember correctly they went for 65k to 70k. If the new one is 55k that is a bargain if it’s the same quality which I really doubt.
“At JUST $55k…” JUST $55K?
I’m also not convinced it is what would be classified as a simple vehicle, given the turbocharged hybrid powertrain.
OK, not so simple. But he EPA is making small trucks with high fuel mileage uneconomical to build. As the foot print of the vehicle goes down, the fuel mileage must go up. And it is not in a linear form, it is an inverted bell curve. So, as the size decreases, the mileage needed starts to go up, and then it starts to go up very sharply, and then, the mileage graph goes vertical. So trucks and SUV's are getting bigger and bigger. For any automaker to sell a small SUV now, it has to pull a lot of tricks to get the mileage up. Toyota has solved that problem with a turbocharged hybrid engine. They cannot do it any other way without going full electric, which Toyota has (correctly) found out does not work. You want this SUV? OK, it is as simple a drivetrain as they can make, and still make EPA mileage ratings.
the vehicle market is just pushing people into 8 and 9 year loans.
Never EVER will I pay 85k for a used vehicle......
55k "cheap". What a world we live in...
Yes its disgusting, the price of vehicles.
Very well done and presented!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
So we’re going to pretend that the Sequoia doesn’t exist? The $90k+ price tag for something that looks like it’s built on the Tundra frame is what killed the old Land Cruiser. This new version slides the name badge into a different class, the midsize body-on frame offroader, with improved styling and the Land Cruiser pedigree. It should eat the Bronco’s lunch.
At that price though, This new land cruiser won't sell very well.
Starts at $55K? That's a no for me. Might as well stick with Wrangler at that price. Amazing that we consider "starting at $55K" as a deal these days? Come on now.
Ford taught me a valuable lesson, never buy a 4 banger wirh 2 turbos 😅😂 just stresses the engines out and they blow up
That's why you floor it everywhere and blow it before the warranty expires.
What 4 banger has 2 turbos?
i think its the bronco raptor or raptor R@@toddkovalcik332
I was at a few of the unveiling and promo events for the FJ Cruiser when it was coming out.
They were projecting starting MSRP at $25,000. 👀
I was like, I’m in!
Then when they actually started to arrive you had to pay a minimum of $5,000 above that.
Yeah... I'm so sick of
MSRP: 25,000
Actual price: $45,000
Like WTF?
Small engine. 55$ for entry level. Good luck chumps.
You really think 55k will get one ? Lol no. There will be a huge mark up. Expect at least 5 k over MSRP
55 thousand is quite the rip off because this model is cheapened with only one controlsble sway bar, cheap plastics, a tiny hybrid electric motor that adds owner cost and maintenance and the third row seat had to be removed for battery space! The stock tires are garbage further adding cost. I hope the 4Rumner isn't ruined. Toyota is duping you.
The USA doesn't get the full-sized J300 Land Cruiser model so this smaller vehicle is simply known as the Land Cruiser in the USA. In other markets this new vehicle is known as the Land Cruiser J250 and the Land Cruiser Prado.
Exactly. CZcamsrs keep trying to say the land cruiser is now cheaper ignoring the fact it’s not the same vehicle or anywhere near the same.
Will Toyota be able to get vehicles on the dealer lots? Lots remain pretty empty in my area.
Gotta admit...the new Landcruiser looks very good...but Toyota dealer are insane with their mark-ups, a $55k Landcruiser will be $65k
I don't believe they're allowed by Toyota to mark up to that extent
A dealership here in DFW dealership told me they will be adding $20k to the MSRP. Headquarters is in the DFW area.
only 55k hmmm. maybe ill pick up a couple of them!!sheess
And half of the Toyota dealers will each get one!
No kidding. The first wave will all go to a few well placed markets and then everything will be order and wait at extremely high prices. The regular guy will maybe see one for sale on a lot in 2026. 😅
FJ60 with that straight six! What a rig that was! Great family hauler!
One if the best ways to prolong any turbo/high compression is to change oil every 5k with proper oil. Installing a good baffled catch can is an inexpensive add-on too.
You can easily do 10k miles with full synthetic. Many euro companies have been doing this turbo stuff for decades.
@@2steaksandwiches665 "Full synthetic" isn't some miracle fluid, it simple means the base oil isn't a mineral oil. It the additive package that makes the oil good, bad or in the middle. You want the best? always choose Shell oils.

Please forgive my ignorance… How does this “new” Land Cruiser sit Vs the LC300?
I was under the impression that this new one was an LC250, aimed at replacing the LC150 commonly referred to as Prado?
The Land Cruiser was, and designed to be, a genuine long distance overlander. Thats why it was so expensive and why it was identical in size to the sequia for twice the price and sold that way for years. Twice the welds, twice the fastners, twice the structutal rigidity,,, genuine long distance overlander. Something a sequia, suburban, jeep, expedition, bronco, cannot do. They cant and wont hold up to that abuse of long distance overlanding. It always sold in small numbers in the us. Toyota went retro for sales and the smaller price is gonna result in a less rugged overlander.
I guess I really am lower class, 55000 for a car is way to much for me.
10 years ago a new F150 Lariat 4WD was selling for $40K and now they’re NOT selling for $125K and Ford, Chevy, Fiat Ram can’t understand why.
That FJ cruiser is expensive. Its an old truck.
These car manufacturers have lost their minds. $85,000 for a four year old vehicle. People are just going to start keeping their cars.
First of all
This is Land cruiser PRADO as it is known here in the Middle East which is smaller than the Land cruiser 200 itself. And it is marketed as THE NEW Land Cruiser in USA.
I think we will have it in middle east soon but with the name PRADO. It is the same size and platform of Lexus GX.
If you said it is cheaper than the previous model because it is smaller.
Don't let them fool you by this marketing campaign so this give them the excuse to raise the price up but lower than the previous Land Cruiser.
Consider the Landcruiser 250 is the replacement for the Prado, which was the cheaper version of the 200 being smaller and with less power and displacement.
When did you get the New Yellow Jeep ? I liked your 2015 Green Rubicon, did you trade it ❓
I still have both right now. Haha. Video on the yellow one and why/how I got it real soon. Green one will be for sale… maybe. I did not trade green one as dealers are not giving shit for trade now.
As long as the 300 series exists this U.S. Prado version will always be nothing more than a lesser cousin.
That 200 for 85K is a great deal. It will last for 500k miles minimum. Plus I’m guessing you could talk them down a bit.
Finally someone that sees this car for what it is
People are getting fooled into believing it’s an actually new Land Cruiser
Beautiful looking vehicle, I'm not a fan of round headlights (anymore) but the rest of the body design looks great, keep it at that price point (or lower), they will have a great seller on their hands (personally speaking).
It's going to sell like crazy. Huge win for Toyota.
@@MotorFeedbrand prostitiution. No way will it have the durability of the old land crusiers at that price. Its gonna be another mall crawler instead of the go to vehicle for the un, taliban, and isis.
@@Henry_Jonesit’s the planned-obsolescence cruiser.
So question. Given the entry level Land Cruiser price for 2024, will this steal sales from the new upcoming redesigned 4runner? Seems like they will be direct competition with one another. Thoughts?
To some extent but not direct. The 4R is three row, the new LC is two row so I see families buying 4Runners and a different customer base buying the LC. Bigger difference will be that the new 4r will be built in Mexico on the Taco line. The LC will be built in Japan.
I like the front end look of the base model more. Always loved round headlights
Absolutely absurd when $55k is "more affordable". For a depreciating asset? No thanks
I just paid $21,500 OTD for a 2014 Xterra Pro-4X with 54K miles, excellent CarFax maintenance history, and having ZERO undercarriage rust, having spent its life in SoCal and Vegas. And with proper care, the motor will last 1M miles. It's just stupid how much they can ask for the same era FJ, which has less room, less torque, and no advantage off road. The only thing I don't like about the truck is its color, Lava Red.
thanks for the report.
Imagine if we did away with the BS dealership system, and you just bought a car directly from the manufacturer.
sorry but $55,000 is bogus more like $65,000 to $70,000 with a market adjustment !!
Sadly some dealers will probably ask over MSRP. Hopefully there are still some good ones out there who won't do it.
Nice video. You make solid content. Prices of new vehicles are so high, if Toyota makes the land cruisers attractive and of quality, they will steal all of Fords customers away from them.
can you talk more about the engine issue of the tundra and which year is the issue in and what years might be the better buy thank you
What only $50,000 for an SUV? They are practically giving it away…
It's a two row SUV that starts at 55k.... That's absolutely bonkers. What a joke of a price
What are they going to do when no one buys any new vehicles, because the consumer can't afford it.
Paid off my 2020 Tundra last year, and unless god forbid it gets stolen or totaled, I will never buy another truck again, THEY ARE WAY OVER PRICED with less inside!
Now all we need is Nissan to update the Armada/Patrol
yes change the name from armada to patrol might sell more
Apparently it’s happening for QX80 and Armada for 2025. Spy shots are already out there. The problem is that the new QX80 is expected to start at around $100k. They have to be doing something very good if they want to charge that much.
i like it how car companies bring $ 50k vehicles to their lots that hardly anybody can afford in this economy.......
Should be called the 55 Grand Cruiser! 🤣
Car prices are a good indicator of either irresponsible spending, wealth disparity, or some combination of the two. How many people do you know that actually have $50k+ to blow on a new car? Our priorities as a society are way out of whack.
I’m still not a fan of the smaller turbo engines. Tundra engines weren’t up to Toyota standards initially, not sure about current standards though.
When can I get a rav4 XSE hybrid for 40k otd?
the old landcruiser... just aint what it used to be. its gonna suck
I recently priced Land Cruiser model 80s. 30 years old, with 300,000 miles, and they're still going for $20,000.
$55,000… Entry level… 🤷♂️🤯
The sad part is that like dealer advertisements, where they never have the vehicles available, it'll be the same song and dance of non-availability for the base model. However, we can put you in this one on our lot for $80,000 LOL!
It does not matter how great a Toyota is. Toyota trucks and suv does not sell well because Toyota dealers are not willing to sell them..
45k for the FJ cruiser, what was it new in 2014?
Too bad Toyota messed it up by putting a turbo engine in the SUV. The turbo put extra pressure on parts which will make the Toyota not as reliable and not last as long as Toyota is known for.
$55,000 plus $45,000 dealer markup equals 100,000 only the dealers are going to make out in this thing
Question, who the hell is buying a used car w/ 32,000 miles for $88,000?
I am gonna LAUGH my ass off when all these greed corporations go BANKRUPT FROM THEIR GREED!!!!!!!
55,000???!!!! What the FUCK 🤣

I want the FJ Cruiser back and I want a manual transmission!! Get the cost down and give me something fun!!
I have a 1996 Land Cruiser, Land Cruisers were never cheap new. In 1996 they were 40-45k, that’s 80-90k adjusted for inflation. The new 2024s sound more affordable.
I really don't understand how so many people can afford new vehicles. I can't - not with a very modest house I bought 3 years ago and was extremely lucky to even get it. Thankfully for me, I can turn a wrench so I am very comfortable driving an older vehicle. 2004 Tahoe z71 with 130k miles.
Toyota is promising a lot of great vehicles, I just hope they can build enough to even out prices.
