  • In this video I showcase the all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition. $77K for this is a tough pill to swallow... as an avid Land Cruiser fan, the idea of a hybridized 4 cylinder platform doesn't sit well with me. There's plenty to LIKE about this 2024 Land Cruiser, but there's also plenty to DISLIKE. I'll do my best to shoot you straight in this video. I, unlike many Toyota-focused CZcams channels, owe nothing to Toyota. That hand doesn't feed me, so I don't mind biting it. Too many Toyota fanboys simping for the brand, afraid to offer genuine critque for the fear of losing their invite privileges, haha.
    What is your favorite part of this new 2024 Land Cruiser First Edition? What's your least favorite part? Although the power delivery feels a bit synthetic, the numbers don't lie... 326HP and 465TQ is pretty wild from a 4 cylinder platform. To me, this LC250 is a far cry from the previous 200 Series generation we had here in the States. The 200 Series LCs I owned before were exceptional. My last 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition felt like a bank vault on wheels. So sturdy, so planted... no vehicle has ever inspired as much confidence a say Heritage Edition Land Cruiser. This new Prado version of the LC is full of tech, gizmos, creature comforts and safety nannies. It's over the top in my opinion... It's too much. $77K for a 4 banger doesn't feel right. What are your thoughts? Would you agree?
    Thanks for watching as always. If you found any value in this video, please consider Liking and Subscribing. Your support means a lot and certainly doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you!

      Unfortunately most of these new vehicles are not affordable to the blue collar working American. Hard pass on these new Tundra’s, Tacoma’s, Landcruisers, etc. The 2025 4Runners look great, but they are not going to be affordable either. Such a shame!

    Sadly, the Tacoma has been such a complete disappointment that I’m kind of just soured on Toyota in general at the moment. I was excited for the Tacoma and the Land Cruiser, and I’m one of the very few customers that was eyeing them both.. now I’m likely eyeing neither of them just because I don’t think Toyota deserves my money right now. I’m not going to incentivize their behavior by buying one of their more premium products in the lineup. I think they need a wake up call, and if that means me sitting out this new generation Tacoma and Land Cruiser then so be it.

    • @MarckySportsDenver
      @MarckySportsDenver Před 18 dny +14

    • @ChrisDavis333
      @ChrisDavis333 Před 18 dny

      @@MarckySportsDenver I do. There’s ways of getting your emissions credits, I think they seen it as an opportunity to increase prices, and keep people in their service centers where only their mechanics can work on your vehicle. Parts/Service centers are a large component to selling new vehicles. Trump is going to be elected in 5 1/2 months, he’s going to cut regulations, toss out the green new scam, and then what? We have a bunch of unreliable 4 cylinders that nobody wanted. There’s all kinds of V8 trucks and SUV’s still being produced, how are they doing it but Toyota can’t even do a V-6? You’re telling me the government made Toyota cram a 4 cylinder in their entire lineup? Give me a break. Toyota is greedy. What does moving manufacturing of the Tacoma entirely to Mexico do? Allows them to produce the truck for pennies on the dollar. What does cramming the same exact 4 cylinder engine into every new vehicle in their lineup do? Allows them to produce a single engine instead of several different ones, while getting tax credits for hybrids, and increasing the MSRP by an obligatory 30%. Why do the Tahoe, Escalade, Yukon, F-150, all still have V-8’s? Aren’t they outlawed? We can go down to the V6 but those exist in literally every lineup of every manufacturer in the US, so we know those aren’t illegal. So why did Toyota have to pass that step and go beyond every other manufacturer? The truth is they didn’t have to, they weren’t forced, were not even talking about V8’s here were talking about V6’s.. you can’t tell me they couldn’t have put naturally aspirated V6’s, they chose not to.

    Built in Japan instills confidence. The 4 cyl/ turbo/hybrid instills concern of the long term reliability and post warranty service costs.
    If this vehicle had a 6cyl /turbo I'd be at 100% in on getting one but $80k for the current 4cyl engine setup is an easy NOPE. The hype for this suv will be short lived and will sit on lots until discounted big time. I mean since when do dealerships allow test drives of 1st edition, just arrived models. These were supposed to be pre-sold. Also Toyota is currently running a lease where you get $1500 towards a lease for this suv. The writing is on the wall already.
    Also, can people stop with the "its the guuberments fault"
    BS; how come Nissan, Honda and Kia all have 2024/2025 suv models with V6 engines in them. No turbos and no hybrid crap attached.

      Toyota has made a vehicle that last much longer than all their competitors. They also see how much money the other manufacturers make in mx cost over the life of a vehicle. They know very well the mx cost over the life of these new trash cans will be much higher than previous gens. If this thing came with small V8 I’d be interested in at least looking at it. Toyota simply does not care about the consumer anymore, at least an educated one. But most Americans are fairly inept and will buy what’s popular cause it has stupid tech crap that doesn’t mater.

    So glad you got your hands on the new LC and made this video.
    I bought a new 5th gen 4Runner Trail in 2011, and over the course of my years of routine service visits I obsessed over the Land Cruisers occasionally displayed in the dealer showroom. In November 2020 I finally bought a 2018 CPO 200 series, and now after 3 1/2 years and 55,000 miles in the driver's seat I still feel the same awe as I did with the first door close and turn of the steering wheel. The new "250" doesn't even begin to stir any amount of desire. It even falls way short (to me) of the value offered by the prior 150 version we can get in a GX460, which a 2021 CPO just joined the 2018 200 in my garage at about half the price of that 250.

    This looks like what I imagine a Nissan Xterra would look like in 2025. If Nissan were smart they would see the millions of disenfranchised Toyota fans, and they would put bunch of money behind the Frontier and battle the Land Cruiser with a new Xterra. The new Frontiers look nice so they have it in them to make a cool Xterra, I think they could steal back a large portion of Toyota’s market share in the midsize truck/SUV segment. The Xterra might have been one of the most sold SUV’s of our lifetime, it has a cult following, I think it would be a slam dunk right now. An all new Frontier and Xterra, taking the lessons learned by Toyota, keeping what we like and getting rid of what we don’t. No 4 cylinders. The top trims both being 20 grand cheaper than the Toyota counterparts.. let the reviewers get their hands on the products and do side by sides, and show what your getting for the extra 20 grand if you’re getting anything at all. Build a product that you believe in and I think you’re going to beat Toyota right now and take a large portion of their large fanbase that have become dissatisfied by this latest generation. If I was Nissan brass I would be drooling at the prospect of answering this call.

    Great honest review. I get what you say about the 200, but this can't be compared to that Land Cruiser in any way (unless we're just looking at how close the price is to the last couple of year of the 200).
    This is a Prado, pure and simple. Very few people outside of North America do or ever will refer to a Prado as a Land Cruiser, because it just isn't. In many ways it's like it's like saying the Bronco Sport is a Bronco.
    I've been a life-long owner of Land Cruisers all over the world, and have owned other Toyotas, Mazdas, Nissan/Datsun, Mitsubishi, etc. (most in 4WD models). Made-in-Japan is not always what it's cracked up to be, but it certainly means that you're getting better/much better than average dedication and competence from the assembly line workers.
    The 200 series (and the current 70 series) are probably the last true-to-heritage Toyota Land Cruisers ever to be built. Unfortunately, where I currently live, the 200 series was not an option, so I purchased a 2023 4Runner TRD OR (only available as a Premium in Canada) that I will be keeping forever.

I feel forced into this tbh, just to get away from turbo 4 cylinders. I wonder if Toyota considered using the turbo V6, without turbos, though i'm not sure how powerful it would be and tuning enough power might not efficient. Naturally aspirated, even with the hybrid option would have been an instant buy for me lol. This vehicle needs a Land Cruiser engine. Land Cruiser is not just a name badge. The exhaust note is depressing, because the 4Runner also sounds that way.

There is no back seat hatch in the middle to put your skis or tall items through (don't want to fold for this because need the two larger back seats left and right) and clicking those buttons up and down to adjust temperature is going to be a hassle. Maybe all of us LC-enthusiasts feel like this. Toyota slaps us LC guys across the face by giving the Lexus GX a V6 twin turbo while we get the 4-cylinder. Why not, at the very least, have a LC V6 model?
    I've owned 4 LC's including my current 200-Series and would LOVE a new LC as I've owned my 2014 for 10vyrs now, and I'm getting the itch but this won't scratch it. Like you, MAYBE in a couple years after real-world data comes in, and kinks are worked out (and maybe they offer in a V6!!).
    Very disappointed they've done this to us. If they wanted to sell more 200's they should have started with true Base models and upgrade packages vs all being loaded.
    Finally, WTH is the deal with the choice of tires? The LC is supposed to be fully capable off road even if the overwhelming majority of driving is done on pavement. Try getting out of thick mud with those street tires. All the 4WD power is useless when all 4 tires are simply spinning.
    LOVED YOUR REVIEW (probably because it was also mine, without actually driving one yet!).

    I told my friend about Toyota's latest moves, and I was like, "Seriously? Who in their right mind wants a four-cylinder engine in an SUV, especially one that kicks off at $70,000? And don't get me started on the battery-operated SUV nonsense. It's like they're trying to destroy their own image! Plus, it barely even improves MPG. I'd bet my last dollar these models are gonna flop hard. Nobody's gonna touch this junk. Can you imagine trying to fix that stupid battery-operated mess? They should be focused on what's best for their customers, not this. And let's face it, they don't get us Americans. We want rugged, manly SUVs, not these European or Japanese little car wannabes."

      Ya except they’re sold out everywhere at the moment. Maybe after the newness rubs off future year models will flop but so far there’s enough people who want it. I’m starting to think that those of us caught up in the old days of pricing are simply the delusional ones

      @Lmatdhr now show the actual first quarter sales on them.... they're not selling out. That's just Toyota knowing that most people are suckers and will make an impulse decision to get one from other dealers giving the illusion that they're in demand. There's 2 rows (including the iforceMax) at just 1 of the 2 dealers within a half hour drive from me. They're not even difficult to find just about any trim with options

      This is the best move for Toyota, no one wants those old thirsty large engines. Also that new V6 in the Tundra is unreliable. 2.4 is the best option imo until they fix the V6. Also they need to comply with the regulations so part of the blame is with policymakers

      Bro i was with you, but honestly Americans don’t want manly tough off-roaders. if that was the case the Xterra would’ve still been around. sadly this market loves mall crawlers…or if they buy the rugged SUVs, they are pavement princesses, to the point the 4x4 is almost never used

      @@JokerG16 they don’t want that kind of reliability they just want “will never break down and will require almost no maintenance and will take me skiing or hiking or camping if I so choose”. Which is ideal for that. The engine in this car is probably the best engine mechanically for reliability Toyota has ever made, along side the v8 in the Land Cruiser.
