I'd Buy This... 1958 Edition Toyota Land Cruiser!

- IF I were to buy a new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser... this would be the trim I'd shoot for. With an MSRP of $57,750... this Land Cruiser 1958 Edition seems reasonable. Still not "cheap" by any means, but an easier pill to swallow nonetheless! Especially when you compare it to the First Edition I reviewed last week, that MSRP was OVER $77K!! Which is insane. The 1958 Edition Land Cruiser stays true to form when it comes to simplicity, built in Japan, and affordability. Price-wise, this 2024 Land Cruiser 1958 Edition is on par with the 2024 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro. The next generation 4Runner in 2025 will sport the same iForce Max motor here at the Land Cruiser, and be high 60s for the TRD Pro.
Personally I Love the cloth interior here. It feels very durable and tough to the touch -unlike most other cloth vehicles on the road today. I prefer the round headlights you see here, compared to rectangular ones you find on the mid-grade Land Cruiser. Would you take this 1958 Edition over the First Edition? Do you think that 2024 First Edition has $20K worth of upgrades over the 1958 here? I don't think so. Still much better than the $81K+ price tag we find on the Sequoia TRD Pro and Capstone.
Let me know your honest thoughts of this new 2024 Land Cruiser. Yay or Nay? As always, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to watch. If you haven't already, please consider Liking and Subscribing. Your support means a lot and it certainly doesn't go unnoticed. Thank you!

57k car with cloth seats………
Looks garbagec
Boomer like you is the reason Toyota doesn’t bring the 70 series to the u.s. complaining about cloth seats.
Yeah as if leather seat is the only rationale for high price
Have you seen a 25 yo Land Cruiser with leather seats? Most of them look like garbage compared to a 25 yo Land Cruiser with cloth. That cloth will hands down outlast a leather interior. I'd take the cloth for sure, I think it looks great. When you live in a cold climate, cloth is better.
And a 4 cylinder….
They cannot sell the TRD Off Road trimmed 4Runners because people don’t want to pay 45k for cloth seats.
Toyota must have sent you a free hat.

The heritage that made the Land Cruiser an icon was legendary reliability and user serviceability.
This is likely neither.
So… you hate the 2.4 in the Taco, but like it in the LC?!?! 🤔
right? make it make sense
This 2.4 in the LC isn't out in the Taco yet. Did he get to play with a production model?

I feel 57K is still too much. Maybe 40-45K would be more reasonable. That screen / center console looks really cheap.
For something that cost over 55k, you sure did say “cheap” a lot.
Haha right? This should be priced in the high 40s tops.
@@UntamedMotors Definitely .
@@UntamedMotors
I agree. $58k is an expensive vehicle.
I expect more from an expensive vehicle
60k for a base model? Hell naw
Its about 15k over priced.
Agreed. Would have liked to have seen this in the 40s.
Well you are both wrong and don’t live in Realsville
@@scottthompson5855 this is worth $58K to you?
@@scottthompson5855 The only one not living in "realsville" is Toyota.
@@UntamedMotorsYup. In today’s inflated world this is what $58k looks like
It should be at most 40k bare bones. No way I'll pay 57k+ for it.
I agree it’s overpriced and there are a lot of things that should be cheaper but have you seen global inflation these past few years? 40k 4 years ago is about the same as 55k today.
@@cheintz091 that might be, but people are not making more money. In the great scheme of things, buying a new car is going to be the first to go on the back burner.
It looks like you will be driving that 1984 Buick Skylark for another 10 years.
I wish there was a non hybrid, non turbo version of this.
We get a non hybrid in the uk
Toyota should bring in the diesel version, GDJ250,
with 2.8L 1GD-FTV (Hilux's engine since 2016) , non-hybrid
The 2.7 2tr engine is an option on this in other markets, I wouldn’t recommend that one since it’s very slow and underpowered
I already have one of these, it's called a 2010 Nissan Xterra.
It’s ok to like it. It’s not ok to pay any amount of money for the trash it is. I don’t mind the looks of it but I’d 100 percent never buy it only because of the power plant. 57k for that thing is insulting
Shitting on the Taco but shilling this. Make it make sense.
Yes they both suck
Imagine paying $58k for a base SUV WITH a 4-cyl (That we haven't heard the end about from you) without power seats and then complaining about $45k Tacomas with power seats + options + being 1100 lbs lighter than the LC.... Sounds like you drank the Land Cruiser koolaid just because of the nameplate
It's built in Japan, this alone makes a huge difference
So the made-in-Japan Toyota vehicles are built with genuine parts that will last forever and Tacoma is built with fake/lower grade parts and will break in no time ???
Haha I have not drank the kool aid don’t worry 😆 I’d buy a used 200 long before snatching up a 4 cylinder version of it. I do appreciate the attempt at simplicity here though.
It’s a 4cly hybrid, it has a whole ass electric motor you’re forgetting about or don’t understand. This has more torque than the last gen tundra
Yeah , I’m done with his videos.
Nice, $60K? Let everyone know when Toyota has it’s fire sale.
It looks cheap.
Very cheap and plain
All credibility lost… sticks to simplicity… with a hybrid battery, electric motor, motor controller, generator, 4 cylinder, turbo, electronic infotainment, digital gauge cluster etc. Yes, it’s the most DIY friendly Land Cruiser they are making… sarcasm intended! A battery that you’ll be replacing at 150,000 miles for thousands. I’d rather take the non hybrid 4cyl… at least it’s less to break…
The hybrid battery will likely last 200k mi. Turbo is more problematic with seals breaking and more engine stress, something you don’t get on hybrid. Regardless, one can expect this to last 15-20 yrs before planned obsolescence kicks in.
I'm waiting for the the diesel version, 2.8L 1GD-FTV.
This engine has been been powering Hilux since 2016 with very good reliability record
Oops, sorry, you don't get any Toyota's diesel in the US?
@@socalbadger1do you not read specs? The iforceMAX is a TURBO 4 cylinder hybrid system… lol so my point stands. It’s even worse when you think about resale value… at 200,000 miles the 200 series Land Cruiser and older Lexus GX/prado series fetch a fair bit on the second hand market even at 200,000 miles… are you supposed to send this to the scrap heap at 200,000 miles when the turbo is messed up and it needs a new battery?
@@alexsystems2001 even worse
The only saving grace for the new Land Cruiser is that it's still built in Japan. Like you said, they didn't cheap out and send it to cheap labor countries like Mexico to build it. They're still keeping true to form by building it in Japan which takes pride in the vehicles they make. Same goes for the upcoming 4Runner. Although I'm not the biggest fan of Toyota's decisions as of late, this I admire them for. As far as pricing goes, I can't help but agree with many on here. That price tag, although much cheaper than the First Edition, is still way too high for what little you get. This should be a $35-40K vehicle at most. $57K and change and you still get cloth seats, manual seats, manual tailgate, and smaller screen. The price should reflect that so it's still a hard pass for me and many potential buyers.
Toyota has finally given us what enthusiasts have been asking for, for years…a base version LC, with everything you need. They haven’t offered cloth interior in an LC since the early 1990’s! Well done. This would absolutely be the version (in silver or Calvary blue) I pick in a couple years. But people with still complain about something.
This is perfect! Love the simplicity.
thanks for the video. I prefer this new landcruiser 100x more than the upcoming 2025 4runner.
I hope the 4Runner TRD OR Prenium & SR5 Premium have The A/C seats. I hope the 4Runner is still low $50k (TRD OR).
It’s essentially the exact same vehicle
@@JokerG16Nope
So crazy to take away the Land Cruiser from us with 8 cylinders and return it with only 4.
Well it is a downgraded model, the Land Cruiser Prado 250. There was the Land Cruiser 200 and Land Cruiser Prado 150 (GDJ150) in 2021. So to get the next model equivalent to the Land Cruiser 200 it would be the 3.4L TTV6 Land Cruiser 300, but we have to get the Lexus LX 600 to get the Land Cruiser.
Yup.. And then try to market it as a regular LC when it’s a Prado/250.
Well no one was buying or could afford that V8 powered Land Cruiser which had a price tag of $90,000 before taxes. They were selling less than 2000 units per year. Just like no one was buying the old Supra. It was the least selling car in Toyota line up. When Toyota got rid of it than all of sudden people started bashing them.
Lol. Nobody was buying the V8. Buy the Lexus. You can get it if you want it.
which holder do you use for phone?
This is a $35k vehicle at best
It’s 2024! Fully loaded CRV is over 35k.

Fortunately for you there is a 35K SUV in Toyotas lineup, RAV4 hybrid. Get real.
bruh, thats too low in this market with inflation. 50-52k is probably more fair because of the lockers and crawl control
The specific cloth used in the 1958 Land Cruiser is one of my favourites. I think they are more comfortable and arguably better looking than the cloths used in other Toyota models.
70k starting in Canada for that base model, one up starts at 80k, so no thanks, just like Taco pro is at 80k and base at 50k .
Wasn’t the previous Land Cruiser 90k Canadian?
Lawd, Canada really getting bent over on price. Yikes!
@M85Iroc can't recall but it was an actual Land cruiser not this plastic toy they are pushing
@@M85Iroc I believe it was about 1997... this is not a LC, it's a Prado. There will be no comparison between this and a LC200.
Yup I agree with you. Toyota lost its mind with these prices.
Is the new LC Premium Fuel only?
Everyone in the comments who is justifying the price of this 45 thousand dollar vehicle are embarrassing themselves. Just stop.
I think we are getting to the point where it may make s sense to buy used, even if the used prices aren't appealing.
Agreed
It has a map holder? What is a map?
The long gas cap is for the markets that get diesel so they can have the DEF filler neck next to the gas filler.
I do like the round headlights better. The cloth looks good. Hopefully it isn’t too hot in the Hawaiian heat, that is why I wish the First edition wasn’t so expensive for the A/C seats. I would need to get waterproof seat covers.
I got black MESO covers for my chrome Tacoma door handles anyway
My fully loaded 24 TRD Pro 4Runner stickered for 58,000. And I got it for $1,000 off. This is nice, but I don’t see the point of these new Land Cruisers TBH.
More room, nicer ride, better driving, rear and center locker, full time 4wd, better mpg, better towing. Leather and sunroof are really the main luxury things a Pro would have over a 1958.
I actually saw a 1958 today in black and the cladding wasn't horrible, blended well with the black exterior color.
Well, I was a Toyota fan boy; but I traded my 2023 Tundra for a 2024 Chevy silverado Trail Boss with the 5.3 V8. Me and Toyota are officially divorced 😢
Did you get that invite to the next premier. You know after the port F’ing it’s a 60k 4 cylinder base model.
My friend just bought a new hybrid Rav4 . He had a Infiniti Q60 he had on lease. He was super excited on the Rav4 now he has had for a few months. I asked him what he thought and he said he thinks it sucks. He said it sounds like a rattle box. He said it creaks and has a ton of road noise. He said he can't wait to get rid of it. New cruiser looks so cheap.
To compare the two is ridiculous
Idk bro but built in Japan is better than Mexico but I don’t think these engines will have the lasting power of the previous generation Land Cruiser
I'm not a fan either of the new turbos and the prices. I do think if Ford can produce a turbo that reaches 200k miles that Toyota can definitely make a reliable turbo. Only time will tell.
@@JOSH-ge4ocexcept for that Ford's credit rating at Moody's S&P, Fitch is not as good as Toyota's. Ford's financials is not that good, they would trade their financials with Toyota in a heartbeat, their Debt to equity is more than 3x higher than Toyota. Automakers are financial institutions, they make money on getting low interest loans from Fed and use that for loans and leases from their customers buying their cars. They take massive loans from govt to finance their expansion. Toyota earns more from interest earned than interest due.Toyota also simply sells more cars than Ford is way more profitable.
@@JOSH-ge4oc Toyota has sustainable debt, they make a lot more profit than their debt. They still make more than they spend. Unlike our government, so it’s fine

@@UntamedMotors they want me to trade my 3rd Gen Tacoma when it arrives, but I might just keep it… Toyota dealers are bullish on the older gen v6 Toyotas
Idk if I’ll call it basic… it’s really cheap looking inside and somewhat outside…. And that price for that …. Still a no go for me
I like it - its old school! I would consider it for my desert house!
My 3rd gen Tacoma 4cyl 4wd had low compression at 40k miles chasing a cold start pop which is a know issue. Rebuilt motor later still had issues! 2017 and I’m still recovering from that crap.
Invite received?
This is the exact vehicle I’m going to get. I like the simplicity, it capability, it build at the Tahara plant in Japan so you know it reliable
Love your honesty 😅
50 years ago, standard seats in many vehicles had vinyl seating surfaces. If your car had cloth seats back then, you were in high cotton!
Great review with lots of common sense thoughts. I prefer the round headlights VS FE ones. I got a 2017 TRD pro in cement color. I’m thinking of getting this LC. I like the new engine and can’t see paying 70k for the 6th gen 4runner TRD pro.
For that price, no sunroof?
They finally invited you to the press releases.
Remember he said he is buying a house that's over his budget.
And then he is gonna get this too.
I agree with you on everything! I really love the seats (I’m not a fake leather fan). I’ll upgrade the sound system and wheels/tires/suspension, of course.
The tumor rear hitch cover is such an after though
This is a Tacoma with a built in box cap, now you’re ok with it? Totally discrediting yourself.
Love that cloth interior, that has to be the best I've seen.
I like the seats. But, it does look like a base Work Grade fleet truck.👀
He says, "He's a fan of cloth interior," in which I am a fan as well but not at a 57k price tag!
Great video really showcasing the truck. Thanks for getting under it multiple times in the rain! haha. Man, all Toyota cars are just too expensive across the board! Agree the differences between this and the first edition are not worth the price tag, with just additional things that will eventually break, but unfortunately neither is this worth the price tag! Crazyness.
I force max is a problem already! Would rather the 4 cylinder than a motor with known issues. Looks great but hard pass because of price and engine. Like someone else had mentioned 35k sounds right.
? What known issues
I like this model a lot, my only concern now is the engine performance driving uphill.
Good run down. Do the rear seats fold flat (thinking sleeping in the vehicle)? I personally prefer the NA 5th Gen 4Runner (I just can't get past the 4 Cyl gas turbo...that said, I might buy a 4 cyl diesel turbo if one is ever offered.) I guess in 3 to 5 years we'll know how reliable the Japan built 4 cyl gas turbo is.
Hard to see the appeal of these trucks. They look really nice on the outside, that’s the positive. People buy this to say they have a Land Cruiser, but it’s a Land Cruiser in name only.

Cloth seats what is this the 90s. I’ll take a 2024 4Runner
I’d take the 24 4Runner over this too… but I’d be lying if I said these cloth seats weren’t pretty nice. Perhaps I just like the nostalgia to it. 🤷♂️
@@UntamedMotors I’d probably like them to, but the wife will say otherwise especially for a high 50k vehicle she wants a 4Runner or a Volvo
Unfortunately comments like these highlights the facts that nobody is buying cars for 15-20 year ownership anymore. You don't want power seats on a car you are gonna have a long time.
The thing is beautiful . But would be a pure luxury to own 😮💨 I like that vehicle
Overpriced
I like it. Simple design, nice-ish interior. Loose the hybrid (and its cost) and the price should be in the $40k’s. Has a rental car vibe.
Iam digging this one.
It reminds me of my current Tacoma grey cloth interior ages well. This is the one!
Let’s get a poll going this or wait for the 4 runner ??
That model would be my choice too. I like it.
Two things keeping me from buying it. 57k price tag for a 4 cylinder turbo truck with a whole lotta cheap plastic all around. I really think $40k is a more realistic starting price for this base model. You will need that extra funds when you begin fix/replace the turbo and the hybrid batteries 8 to 10 years later.
Id take the 4runner. Why? Because the 2.4 blows up.
Please enlighten us, about the 2.4L Toyota engines blowing up.
The problem with hybrid is the vehicle end of life is when the battery dies and related electric drives fail. 5th gen 4R will go on forever with easy maintenance.
Amen to that. I’d snag a 24 4Runner before this any day. 💯
And I will get a free battery pack when I need it in fuel savings over ten plus years
Love the cloth interior! I wish more Toyotas had that.
No sunroof offered on the 1958?
I love this one.
No thanks I’ll keep my V8 tundra and 4runner lil turbos is a no go for me 👌🏽
Yeah, I’d like to get one of these for the wife in a couple years. 2” lift and some real tires.
Super skeptical about the I Force Max. I want to buy one I will wait until 2025 we need more owner reviews. Every review is at the dealer lot we need actual owner reviews with miles on the dash
So far TRD John has 10,000ish miles on a 2024 Tacoma that he lifted at Wescott Designs. He drove from Florida to Arizona and back. Without any problems other than having to some reprogramming some issue on the way to Arizona.

When we think fondly of the 25 year old land cruisers that toyota built their reputation on, did they have power seats? Or leather that lasted 25 years?
I would never pay more than 40k for this car. This is as basics as you can get.

I'm not too much as a fan of the burlap looking seats and that's what they are burlap seat covers and the raised floor in the back if you get rear-ended this vehicle is scrap metal but since it's a hybrid they will not accept it in those wrecking yards because it's hazardous waste😅 yes it was a Bare Bones it would have crank up Windows😊
Like that the AC/ heat is still not screen / digitized. $58k is ok as long as there's no dealer markups...
I just can't imagine the stress that engine is under to produce those numbers. What i mean is, we really need to see what these cars will do after 100k to 500k. Maybe then, I'll be convinced.
