  • In this video, Craig Bimmer explains a modification that isn't often talked about in the BMW community and demonstrates installation. This mod is compatible with the following BMW Valvetronic engines: N51 N52 N55 S55 N20. MILVS add 1mm of intake valve lift when the Valvetronic system is in its max position. In this video, I demonstrate how to install MILVS on my 2006 BMW 325i.

    This video is sick. There's not a ton of information online about building N52's since most prefer the N54. Glad I found this channel. It seems like only recently we are starting to really see the tuning potential for these engines and chassis.

    Source - Jim tuned my ECU to accept an N52 in place of the N51. Coded for 3 stage manifold, 2ndary air pump out (only on N51) and threw in the higher redline at no added cost. Really happy with the results and service from Kassel.

If you're considering it, do it as cost effective as possible, because while it is worth it if you're trying to push the limits on n52, it's not worth breaking the bank too hard. hey man I got a question for n51/n52s that's unrelated to MILVs but I see that you drive ur n52 pretty damn hard and even pushing it to the limits at 7.5k rpm and revving out the car a lot but have u ever seen any types of head gasket issues or engine blow outs on completely stock engines? and I'm only talking about wear and tear and engine abuse not dumbasses who just don't maintain the car at all. I've only ever heard or seen a few very rare engine problems where someone's n51 block had a tiny crack in it that would just piss oil everywhere and even that's like a 1 and a million with these cars and I've only ever heard of a hand full of head gaskets blowing out but that was mainly from the car over heating from a coolant hose blowout and the car couldn't turn itself off fast enough for how fast the guy was going. I'm mainly wondering because I have a 06 n52 with 190k miles now, I've done a shit ton of maintenance and replacing parts on it to the point that I'm well over 6k in the car and the car definitely has a lot of life in her and I'm gonna end up doing a lci conversion to the headlights, headers, and a 3 stage manifold but I used to drive the car hard as fuck hitting red line a lot and sitting at 6k rpms for a solid minute. but what would your take be on a chance my HG fails?

    • @UltimateBimmerExperience
      @UltimateBimmerExperience  Před 2 lety

      Just like you said, I wouldn't say it's impossible but personally I don't think I've ever heard about anyone blowing theirs from natural causes. I've read a lot from forums over the years, and I don't I've seen anyone talking about that really. I have seen accounts from people with 250k+ mile n52 and still haven't mentioned replacements of headgasket. It might be one of the only gaskets we don't have to worry about really at all lol

    • @I_Ali_I
      @I_Ali_I Před 2 lety

      @@UltimateBimmerExperience thank you for a quick response and ur outlook on these engines. I just wanted to see if you've ever seen or heard any of these problems on the car, I've known that the head gaskets are extremely rare and these engines last a long ass time, but I never really asked anyone that knows more then me about them. I was really paranoid for a while about my head gasket because I was losing coolant every few weeks with no sign of a leak and I remembered a while ago I hit like 5k rpm and saw a cloud come out the exhaust, then when I opened up the coolant cap and started the car I actually smelt exhaust but there was no bubbling or coolant spilling out and at first, this all pointed me toward a small head gasket leak and I was a little upset about it and was even looking at Hondas lol because I was so annoyed at how much money I spent on the car in a year and a half I owned it. But then about a week ago it got real cold and a leak actually showed in the lower radiator hose. Now that I replaced the hose the exhaust smell was gone and all my coolant is good now. My take is that exhaust was coming up from the lil leak in the hose and the cloud that came out was probably just water. I'm not sure but after I changed the hose and changed the coolant I let the car sit for 10 mins without the coolant cap and everything seems good to me now. I even lost love for the car for a bit bc of it being a n52 engine but u actually brought my love back for them and now I'm gonna start redoing the car and finishing the things I wanted to do with it and shit man after looking at the market that seems like the cheaper option now

      I use only oem KY oil. Lol I used Castrol gold bottle 5w30 and try to change every 5k miles. But the engine shown here I had only owned for 15k miles, so I suppose I got kind of lucky with how the previous owner did oil maintenance. But I've since had to replace this engine due to my own negligent mistake. But I got by what the Manual recommended but change every 4-5k on my regular 3 series

    Good video but "vtec garbage" is hilarious for an n52 driver to say.

      I was speaking just on my options for n52. I'm not sure what tunes accommodate MILVs across other platforms or if they're as necessary. I hope to try this on my n55 sometime in the future.
