This the sort of event more communities need. Low key, both pocket book and people friendly gatherings. Perfect!
Due to much of America's refusal to accept cyclists on the roads and to promote safety, gravel racing is the future. Just the way it is in a failed state.
Preach 🎉
This was perfect! Thank you for organizing this, Nolan! Looking forward to the next one.
Great turnout and lots of nice Ritcheys, makes me wish I was on the west coast.
Had a lot of fun! Thanks for organizing!
Major props for such a fun-looking and inclusive event!
Glad the event turned out successfully. Riding through TC is always enjoyable.👍
Congrats on this initiative 🤙🏼
Well done Nolan. You’re both rational and inspirational. That’s a rare commodity!
Posting the route well in advance is a great point. Gives people a chance who are interested but aren’t sure how to gauge their ability from a route map a chance to scout the hardest parts of the terrain weeks in advance.
Thanks for putting this together, it was a great time!
Congratulations! Nice to see Fergus and Mitch.
Route looks amazing, Ritchey is awesome 🤟🏻
Thanks for modeling an inspirational way for people and industry folks to work with shops, teams and communities to improve cycling culture. Great points about what makes or breaks the experience.
And the award for best username goes to.. 😀👍👍
Very Cool. Nice job!
Looks like a lot of fun! Kudos for helping put it on.
This is so cool! Mad props to you for bringing together such an inclusive and laid back event : )
AWESOME!!!
Good points. Sweet steeds. Looked like good times.
This is so cool! I'd love to see another video going into how you planned this kind of event. Like the marketing, the logistics, any waivers that needed to be signed, etc etc.
Great!
Loved this event dude! So much fun and so much good food 🏆
Thanks for the broll. Half these clips are from you!
@@TheBikeSauce happy to help 🫡
Keep doing it.
So cool to see you gathering people both in comments section and real world! Congratulations 🎉
I'm happy for you, man. Looks like the event was super successful and a ton of fun. Good job putting it together. I wish they had these kind of low-key events in my area.
Oh Wow, the food😋😋. Looks like a great event.
Fantastic job--super bummed I couldn't make it. Hoping to make it out to the next one. Thanks for the amazing vids.
The route and the event looked amazing! Hope to join in one day. Buenas vibras!
More of this!!
Hope you put another ride together. Looks like it was a lot of fun. The food looked tasty!
Looks like a awesome friendly ride. Nice route, me as Dutchie should come to Calli/LA again, this time without my snowboard.
Such a good day, Nolan! Love the recap. You captured the vibe very well. 🎉
🤘 thx for documenting it. Your write up on Radavist was fantastic
I missed it. I hope it will happen again soon, All of this right in the backyard of my old town ❤🎉🎉 Look like a great time
It feels great to be part of this event. The last DH almost killed me but I’m glad I made it home in one piece 😂 Thanks a ton for a wonderful experience 🍻
Got a little loose!
Great stuff! Keep it up :D
Looks like a fun event.
I’m in Texas, but this could be a good destination for a vacation day.
Nice!🙌I had a great time, and I am definitely down for the next one!
Nice!
Nice. The food!
Looks fun! One of these days I'll make it out to Maverick to ride with Kevin again ✌️
what this content is, is great! thanks
I agree totally I live in flat South Florida so if I was there in your neck of the woods, I would love to ride this event and yeah, especially since I don’t know what kind of elevation you have out there. Of course I’ve rode in Costa Rica with some hill climbs. I got the legs sometimes but good suggestions that you mention. 👍🏻😎
Man, i wish I knew about this! Dunno how I’m just finding out you’re based in Whittier. I’ll have to come to the next one- love the channel!
Wait TIL Fergus is the marketing manager at Ritchey! He's a great guy, used to race up here at Hellyer Velodrome!
damn i really want to pick up a gravel bike to join on the next one
Great ride, great food and great group.
What else does one need ?
Coffee > lots of coffee (haha)
Major FOMO. Next one! Sick crew Nolan! Well done!
Looks like it was a lot of fun. I’m with you on post in the route in advance. Both for the pre-assessment you mention but also so people can self nav if they make a wrong turn. It’s ok to post a previous version with a “things might change” tag. And it’s ok to change day of if conditions warrant. That doesn’t negate the value of posting.
It seems like having that optional climb is nice, both to keep the faster riders engaged and the slower riders from feeling the pressure of someone waiting for them.
Looks like a cool event, I’m new to gravel cycling and a bit of an outcast with a flat bar setup I build up from a niner RLT9 last year with mostly mountain bike components so I could ride when the trails were wet and muddy. Over the last year have grown to really enjoy this type of riding and have put 2,154 miles on this bike on mixed terrain. Thanks for sharing this event and i enjoy your channel, I hope there are more event like this to follow.
Flat bar bike would crush this route! Sounds awesome
I'm really loving alt-bars on my bikes these days so you're not alone!
Damn, how did I not know about this. :(
Next time!
Big group rides with any elevation is difficult for everyone - Too much waiting for the front, and not enough breaks for people at the back. Consider splitting the group into 2 or 3 next time (longer ride for the fast group so everyone gets back at the same time) or encourage "social repeats" for the faster riders where once you get to the top you go back down to the back and ride back up with everyone
Do you have a link to that route? Hope to get to the Pacific this summer.
Link is still up on my IG bio. I can put it here as well
@@TheBikeSauce not sure what you mean by IG
Sorry, Instagram @thebikesauce
@@TheBikeSauce never-mind ....
Straggler-aka Brian’s new BFF 😅-here! I had a great time, and am proud of my DFL finish.
The route was a huge challenge for me, and I absolutely wanted to turn back midway through the warmup climb, but Brian’s presence guilted me into persevering, which then translated into making it through everything.
And at the finish I found great people, food, coffee, venue, and vibe-all around a great time, glad I came!
See you next time…hopefully with some more fitness. 😬
Nice! You crushed it. I even saw you tackle the extra credit 💪
@@TheBikeSauce I just followed the route-ignorance was bliss! 😎
so decades ago when i was riding my MTB on that same route ,was i actually riding "gravel " and i didn't know it ? lol how ridiculous is the term gravel . it use to be called riding your bike .
Decades ago, ‘MTBs’ were just rigid single speed swept back bar bikes. How ridiculous to give them a name.
lol come on man you have to admit that calling riding your bike on different surfaces "gravel riding" is a bit absurd . i've been riding that way for over SEVENTY years . i would ride my bike to school , first down an asphalt street then on a dirt path across a field and onto some loose stones and then back onto some asphalt . as i got older i did the same thing but traveling much farther distances . people have been riding like that for decades and now its called "riding gravel " 😂😆🤣 very silly .
Suppose I can’t argue with that. Gravel is just today’s term for ‘mixed-terrain.’ Sounded weird to me at first too, but you get used to it
