I think boats are the best place for electrification because all docs already have power for each boat.
Should also be optimal for powertrain and battery cooling efficiency.
Also plenty of water nearby. For, you know
Well there's not much opportunity for regen, and pleasurecraft don't usually see daily use, so not really. If there were a business case to have one as a rental, then sure.
@@concinnus that's the thing. The boat sits unused and charging for hours or days at a time. Plenty of time to charge up. And the boat is going to be used for just cruising around for a couple hours at a time
@@priceburnett It takes ~15k miles for a 300-mile BEV to 'pay off' the extra energy used in making it. For the Macan, that's about 750gal of fuel. I just don't expect e.g. a rich guy's Yacht tender to ever get used that much.
Electric powertrains are quickly coming a major market segment in the sailboat world. People are repowering with electric and most boats come with it as an option from the factory.
Especially on the race boats the quiet and lightweight are a treat.
Out Of Spec Boatering, I dig it😁👍🏼
Your Dad should buy one! 😅
A good survey of the boat, politely showing the shortcomings.
Based on a $200-300K Fantom Air, there's the cost of a couple of Macans added to the price … : )
In this "half mill" price range, expect:
* joystick steering for 360º docking maneuvers with easy, GPS hold station-keeping, autopilot navigation, optimal "return to port"
* direct drive (the gearbox is the _weak_ link in a boat power train, getting rid of it saves weight at the transom, significantly reduces losses and improves NVH)
* twin engine for efficiency, durability, differential steering
* 2+2 seating, the seats across the stern get buffeting and spray and noise and restricted view, more motion sickness
* range and power seem to be great fun, but it's a small boat not suited to open water (note bow-rising ride in calm seas)
* instruments were difficult to read, console was already looking scratched
14:58 Umm what? You have an infinite heat sink in the water you are riding on. They skimped on the cooling plumbing on a $500,000 3 seater boat. Wild.
It's likely not a coolant -> ambient bottleneck, but an inverter then maybe motor/battery bottleneck. All that stuff is taken from the Porsche and redesigning it is an unreasonable thing to expect.
@@concinnus this guy is talking about “unreasonable thing to expect” on a tiny $500,000 boat. 😂. Batteries, inverters, and motors already have cooling loops. And when they are in cars they have the disadvantage of only being able to reject heat to air. I’ll bet anything they didn’t bother to cooling some of the components. Epic fail.
@@ultrastoat3298 500k is like nothing in the realm of (electric) sport boats. And this is a small project, they do not sell many of them
@@ultrastoat3298A super yacht tender isn’t going to be driven hard. People buy for the novelty. The single motor kills it too. No crew wants to mess with single engine boats in this price range.
Needs a sharrow prop
Very cool to see because of that instant torque. Getting up on a plane is made so much easier. I recall a company in the Netherlands converting boats using used Leaf batteries years ago but this appears to be on a whole new level.
The quietness is similar to sailing, amazing.
This must be great for waterskiing and wakeboarding etc with the instant torque
A plug in hybrid would be great. The EV part only used to get on plane. A ski nautique is already $150k+, I cannot see that many people paying more for full EV version😮
Thank You folks for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste
🙏🏻 😊 ✌ ☮ ❤ 🕊
A boat may not be my personal bag, but it’s interesting to know that Porsche is helping a boat manufacturer to power a racing boat!!
Racing?
Cheers guys
Anyone who can afford a Superyacht can afford one of these puppies. The ideal runabout.
Pure awesomeness 👊👊💪💪⚡️⚡️⚡️👍
Cant wait to see you do the 10% challenge with that
So freakin sick
Were the keys in the jacket or are they at the bottom of the bay?
Sooooo many guys would subscribe to “Out Of Spec Motorboating” 😂
It sounds wonderful!! I’m very interested!!
Look at the Candela C8, it's even better, and cheaper too!
@@swecreations Man so many mistakes...The Candela C8 starts at €330k, so 40% cheaper. You can spec options to get above 400k. The Candela C8 only has a top speed of 30 knots which is much much slower than the 45 knots of this Frauscher boat. The power is pretty insane. And so is the charging speed. This is an actual proper electric sports boat with high-end specs, the C8 isn't. And then there comes the branding, a Frauscher X Porsche colaboration has a higher value then the Candela X Polestar one.
@@bullshitbingo2259 I said "almost half as much". 40% is almost half as much.
I said it has twice the range at a higher speed, it is rated at twice the range at 22 knots that this is rated at 20 knots.
Either boat is extremely well-made and luxurious, and the Candela C8 charges faster than this boat if you count actual range in kilometers per hour and not kilowatts, even more so when you consider you'd be unlikely to find a 270 kW charger at a dock. The C8 is much higher-tech than this, considering it's made out of carbon fiber and flies on top of the water.
What happened to the Cupra (MEB) - Silent Yachts cooperation? 🤔
I would love to see some car to boat charging.
I need a 20' electric Bass boat with a top speed of 70mph.
Doesn’t everyone? 70mph is about 100kw or under 150Hp.
A used Tesla model S 100 battery and two Netgain warp 9 motors would be about as cheap as you can go. Given the warp 9s are $5000 each, and the total mass of the motors and battery are about 500kg minus the rest of the power train, stick to 4 stroke with a wet exhaust for now.
Or just buy ten trolling motors?
As Kyle likes to say, “Hell yeah!”
But… $500k is crazy 🤪
a fiberglass boat 500K+ VAT THAT IS CRAZY !
Wish I could hear the sound of the boat but you never stopped talking
I love that Porsche is doing these kind of projects! I wish Tesla did similar things
Plenty of former tesla peeps&x execs are doing this!
Electrification, boat, and Tesla build quality....eh, after you mate!
@@4literv6 nope
would love for you to review our boats!
The skipper should better put his safety on... 😂 (+ lifejackets missing)
They have included 2 battery packs
It needs range extender foils.
Boats are ideal for EV. Level two charhing already exits in every boat slip. I thought this would have come first.
Let the expert explain your not smarter than everybody Kyle damn chill 😂😂😂
I want an electric boat for on Lake Oconee
Over 500K and only two to three hours of power? Plus the cooling issue? Sounds a bit crazy to me. Good idea, but not Porsche’esk. Back to the drawing board, I would think.
Porsche did a marine project with 300hp 928 engines back in the '80s.
Ended up being too expensive for too little power.
These electric boats are too expensive for too little range!
Will this Porsche EV boat be compatible with Tesla chargers?
Every Tesla chargers in Europe are CCS 2 so yes....
Electric Boat channel? Go for it, I'd subscribe.
Electric boat. Has a totally different meaning on the Submarine.
Come on Arnold , say California, say it! Please say California …
The Candela C8, which uses Polestar 2 batteries and is made in Sweden, is completely carbon fiber, has been in production for multiple years, costs almost half as much, rides much smoother over waves, has more than twice the range at a higher speed than this boat, and is bigger too. Would definitely buy that instead of this.
Half as much huh? Interesting, thank you for sharing.

What is the battery pack on it? How many kilowatts is it?
around 4 minutes they say 100kW same as the porsche
100 kWh gross, same as Macan
Wonder how they deal with battery cell outgassing in a wet environment.
uhh there is none the battery is entirely sealed I'm in the process of electrifying a boat replacing the inboard v8 with the battery and motor from a nissan leaf.
I would never have considered buying a boat with a gas motor because I hate the smell & noise & fooling with petrol… this I would consider ….
Fast boat
85kph is slow af for a boat
Very cool product... for the ~1%'ers.
Thank goodness for them! Without them buying new tech and making markets by growing demand nothing would be affordable. 👍🏻😎
Out of reach for 1%ers. This is for the .01%ers.
Man... talk about a lifestyle brand...
1/2 mil and no roof? nice trick.
sweet
Great. Wealthy people can now have their chauffeur following their "day" cruiser from marina to marina in their Cayenne Turbo towing that mobile charging station. The planet is saved ! Trust fund baby is getting all excited...
Hello guys
Tesla is the best car company ever! No gas stations, No oil changes, No smog check, No corrupt dealership, No catalytic converter and as fast as a $550,000 Lamborghini.
They copied Polestar lol 😄 Polestar sells an electric hydroplane boat
45km range at 41km/h is horrible. That is less than 10% of the range of an equivalent diesel/gasoline boat.
The battery ain't even 3 gallons worth of marine diesel in total energy genius. 😀
overpriced
True, but all boats are over-priced.
And after that, they get expensive! 🤣

This is really cool but the price is stupid. No one with money is going to want this.
This is exactly somebody would say without money. 500k for a nice sports boat is not that much, especially if it is electric
Another affordable EV reviewed. For those who can drive their electric Rolls Royce to the marina to go electric boating.
Yeah it’s affordable if you also have a super yacht
And yet another person complaining about a product they can't afford. Since, just because they can't, no one can.
How about just enjoy the fact that things like this exist, and know that it always trickles down to more mainstream affordable things.
Boatering is not ok. You’ll embarrass yourself every time you say the channel name in front of people, and they will 100% judge your butchering of the language.
Wow this is amazing. But I think normal boats this size cost $22,000 to $70,000, albeit slower. $600,000 is something different.
