Thats what it is for! And we are here to to find that house to buy in a good area!
I was raised in 130th and Powell. It was poor area then and a absolutely hell hole now. Why our current city leaders have allowed this once beautiful city deteriorate to the level we're in now is unbelievable .
Personal safety.
Its because all the city leaders live on the west side and in the west hills they would rather have the bums camped out in the east part of town
He's not kidding. I was in my early 20s when I bought my first home in about 1985. It was in Centennial off 162nd between Powell and Division. It was just a normal blue collar neighborhood, but over the next 20 years it just kept getting worse and worse and worse, until we finally sold it in the summer of 2005 and got the heck out of there. I've deiven through there a couple of times in the last 18 years, and it's just disgusting- I can't believe I ever lived there.
Great info! Thanks!
This was INSIGHTFUL !!! Awesome work pal
Thanks so much and ya hope it helps to map out the area better!
I live in Powellhurst, #2 on your list. Its fine here. Its not worst or near worst.
I live in PA, and I just google mapped these neighborhoods you mentioned and they all look nice. Compared to areas you don't want to go to where i live.
Yes compared to some cities these neighborhoods are probably nice but for the Northwest and Portland they are pretty rough!
@Adam Ya I actually watched that episode, 9 years ago when it aired hahah but you are right their are gangs in some areas but for the most part it is cleanig up! Areas just 5 years ago you would not step foot now are some of the best areas people are moving to i.e. Mississippi ave, FOPO etc.
I've been robbed in some of the nicest looking areas
Check out the Instagram account PortlandLooksLikeShit and you’ll see why these neighborhoods suck
Don’t listen to this guy. My husband and I had to buy a house while living in another state due to a job transfer. The house we ended up buying is in the Centennial neighborhood. We heard horrible things about this area, and along the main avenues certain blocks might be a bit rough or look dilapidated but that’s about it.
The crime might be higher on this side of town but compared to past cities I’ve lived in (Las Vegas, Denver, New Orleans, San Antonio, Lansing) Portland is very safe and never have I felt threatened.
Most people in Centennial that live in houses, own them and many have been here for years. Real estate agents steer you away from these areas because they make less money on commissions. My husband and I have now lived here 2.5 years and plan on retiring here. Btw if you’re racist, you may not like Centennial because it is very diverse.
If you want a lived in, diverse and affordable neighborhood of working class people who are real and prefer having a neighborhood that interacts with each other instead of being over-run by HOAs and/or historical societies, Centennial is a great choice. If you are a bigot, pretentious, like having people dictate and micro-manage your neighborhood, and want to make your realtor richer, feel free to chose somewhere else.
So basically live in borderline Gresham with the worst schools in the city or you’re a racist Bigot? Am I hearing this right?
dirtycowboy79 isn’t saying “live here or else your a bigot” bigotry? I think you really need to google the word
Live right off 181st and Powell it’s just this is the side of town where people know each other and no one new really moves here
I live in centennial and its great. I hear gunshots every night, but there is a range nearby so...
Julian Mahoney lol I know exactly what your talking about I live right off highland
Always keepin' it real. Thanks for the great info!
Thanks so much and ya hope it helps to map out the area better!
You messed up with parkrose they should have been number 1. The only reason crime isn't higher is because police no longer respond to crime there. My wife worked there and police would tell her maybe in a couple days we can make it out and that was after she was threatened with a knife.
True that
It’s changed a lot homeless everywhere Needles everywhere , sty away from Portland
That is simply not true. There are areas here in Portland with no homeless, and little crime but of course they are the more expensive areas where some of the Portland politicos live (no surprise there).
I really enjoy your videos! Do you mind telling me what program you use to put them together? One of you must have some design background! Hope to hear from you :)
Can you do a video on areas like East/West Morland? Also, what about Goose Hollow? My wife and I visited for a long weekend and just drove around and loved those areas!! Goose Hollow looks like there's a ton of history.
Ya we have actually done some great videos about both (Morelands) and yes goose hollow is another great area so close to downtown and the MAX. watch our video on sellwood moreland and top 5 southeast neighborhoods and you will see them! Also reach out any time with questions about areas and we will be more than happy to help!

Living in Portland Oregon awesome thanks!
I have friends that have lived in East Moreland for 30 years. It’s really a beautiful place, mostly crime free with no homeless camps, trash or graffiti. People keep up their homes and landscapes. But it’s expensive and I rarely see homes for sale there. Worth a look though. Sellwood is also a nice area with lots of cute local stores, cafes and restaurants. In both areas there are some great hiking areas nearby too.
ParkRose, Powellhursd-Gilbert, Centennial, MillPark, and Maywood exist because of unchecked real estate development in the 90's. You ARE the problem, dude.
this is indeed correct.
Yes agreed! Make Portland Cool Again
My school is at the Marshall campus due to renovations. Due to distance learning I am not going to physical school but I had to go down their a few times to get stuff. Whenever we went down their their were lots of homeless people
You forgot Rockwood-- it scores highly on the MAGOBB index. (Middle Age Guys on BMX Bikes).
Rockwood is not Portland it’s Gresham
@@Carlos-mu3ge Rockwood is in Gresham, but the city of Gresham is also referred to as "Portland" when written out as an address. Prove it to yourself by addressing an envelope to a Gresham address, but write "Portland" instead. It will still get there. Both are in Multnomah County.
rockwood gang bro
that’s the place where we feel @ home
MAGOBB index, did you come up with this acronym ? Genius .
I'm watching this from a hotel in bridgeton, waiting on truck repair, don't live here. Seems like they are cracking down on the homeless camps. Way less than a month ago🤷
Portland has always been high unemployment for last 30 years. Unless you are well connected to people in business and/or politics it's harder to find jobs as a newbie or from the outside through advertised sources. I had a better luck finding jobs remotely to Phoenix and Seattle while I was living in Portland than I did locally "pounding pavement." I also had another friend who had to pay a private employment agency to get a job right out of college (and get started in supporting himself). This was like 30 some years ago. The recent events of the last two years only accelerated the difficulty for someone coming out of college and trying to find a job or another college grad from out of state moving into Portland.
You should do an updated version - alot has changed
Only for the worse.
We are moving to Portland in January and we signed a lease on a place in Humboldt, so I'm hoping it's a nice area.
He’s somewhat right. Old Town Chinatown’s only sketchy at night. I’ve jumped off the MAX there to mail some letters at the Post Office and encountered a ton of poor people, never had an issue.
Considering how many people I've seen performing bodily functions in the street there, before covid and the lockdowns, I disagree
205 and East~ This is literally a buffer zone to get people out of East Multnomah. Bye! We don't need ya. Keep telling people that Gresham is shit. Thanks.
Thank you, this was a great list. Now I understand why homes in Centennial and Powellhurst-Gilbert are priced at such a low price.
Powellhurst isn't all that great, but Centennial for the most part really isn't all that bad.
Why do “worst of Portland neighborhoods” videos pop up when I search for tours of the Buckman neighborhood? And I can’t find any legit tour videos!
hi i am thank about Applying to OSHU Nursing Program. and i would be working at the Hosptial. I would be renting an apartment which apartment complexes do you think would be safe and fairly inexpensive if any?
Have you moved yet? What areas would you recommend if you're looking for safety and decent living 1300-1500 max for 1bdrm
Maywood Park is actually a small incorporated city surrounded by Portland
Facts!
don't give chinatown a bad name bro.
Kenton actually has a lot of crime right now. So this information is old! Right near the park there is especially bad. Don't get me wrong, I do like Kenton. The downtown area is really cute and there are some decent restaurants there. I'm hoping it will be cleaned up again. Park of the problem are the homeless camps there now. Downtown St. John's, unfortunately, has a great many homeless people roving around, some of which are mentally ill or addicted to drugs. I'm hope again that t;he downtown area of St. John's will be rejuvinated because there is so much potential there. The Lloyd District is not good either. This much be an old video. I live here in North Portland by the way since 2016.
I'm from Brazil.
Who city do you recommend for travel and, opportunity, change to live in?
I talking about Oregon ok!
Stay in your country, don't come here we don't need you
Come to Portland! It's beautiful!! Come in the spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom!
Please do top 10 areas in Portland to live in terms of safe, etc
Video starts at 2:03
Max train the problem with Bridgeton it's also the problem with Parkrose I-205 anywhere there is the max train Division Street there's going to be a new bus it's going to have triple doors it will operate like the Max train with its triple doors
lmao there are no scary neighborhoods in portland. move to the warzone in Albuquerque then move back. you'll be fine.
Respect loco... I'm from Albukrazzy too .. they dont know!!!!
you need to update this video because the parts of the Portland area is bad after Covid because the Lloyd center is dyeing and there are a lot of shootings happening all over the PDX area.
Which areas would you recommend then for Safety and Diversity or least just safety and nice living
@@unknowng3532 Not a single place, there's no real diversity either. White people who love to call others racist think poverty is diversity lol. Portland is one of the whitest cities I've ever been too.
One of them took a shit on the dashboard of my car
More than half of these neighborhoods are actually pretty great and some of the only parts of town with decent cultural diversity. I wouldn't recommend moving anywhere in Portland at all if you're not keen on living in a west coast city with west coast city problems.
Liberal city problems.
You really think it is only West Coast cities? The reason west coast is preferred is the weather, even more than the politics.
I was expecting you to actually show some visuals of what you're talking about as evidence, but you show no evidence to back up what you're saying. I know that you could have, because I've been to Portland recently and I saw the horror for myself.
The people in Portland only want to take photos of food, mountains and cocktails. They're desperately trying to bury their head in the sand and pretend it's not falling apart. I don't know why people just can't accept that everything is falling apart.
My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving to Portland! I wanted to know if you know anything about how the music scene looks like in Portland at the moment ?
Ken Del Portland has an alright music scene, but an even greater drug scene
Ok so the one thing that Portland does is do secret concert scenes where you sign up and then you can find out day of where the venue will be! It is a very artistic city and that means with the music as well
Ken, my boyfriend and I are moving to Portland in January and are also into the music scene !
@@stardusstie that's awesome ! We are planning on visiting in January but we wont move until the begining of summer! Let me know how the transition goes! We are currently living in LA but after two years we want something different
@@stardusstie Did you end up moving to PDX? How do you like it so far? 😍
We don't have really bad areas..certainly no ghettos..go to Houston or LA or Atlanta.. Very little scary here.. Shady? Yeah..work at Sauvie? What do they do there? And Saint Johns, nice area..
The homeless ruin along I-26; especially, from 82nd down to 50th and Powell Blvd.
Wow this video didn't age well
Curious about NE portland off Sandy blvd
What is the rockwood neighborhood
You need to swap Cully and Lents for Kenton and St. Johns. Sunderland isn’t even zoned for housing and there isn’t one house and maybe fifty condos in all of Chinatown. So your list is fairly misleading but since you’re new I guess you’re still learning.
What I am taking away from all of these “five years ago you wouldn’t want to live here” towns is we need to wait for gentrification to take hold and then we are cool to move in?
Exactly right. But only if you have the money of course.
What do you think of the Lents area?
What’s going on there? I’m about signed a lease around there, any last words would be great😮
Kenton is Getrified to death
Gateway Hazelwood
Hunnid Duece Hustlerz .... Don't come round if you ain't from round ....
Shots fired , car ghosted, dope cheap.
A lot of empty talk before you get to your point
St. John’s does flood from time to time.
I live in Parkrose. Just don’t tell tweakers what to do and you’ll be fine.
How long have you lived in Portland?
He doesn’t live in Portland, I believe he lives in either Texas or Cali, can’t remember which one. I’m a Portland realtor who’s lived here the majority of my life
I live in rose city park and it is a great area. Decent schools, low crime rate, lots of things to do and places to go, great restaurants, Around 10 mins from downtown. The best part of rose city park is south of sandy north of Halsey east of 47th and west of 57th however the whole neighborhood is great
Is that the Hollywood District?
Where is Jessie Ray? Haven’t seen him lately. Well except in the comments section.
Carmen Roxas helping all our new awesome clients find their dream homes!!
Love how much of this boils down to “homeless people scary”, lol. Thanks pal
Homeless people aren't scary. People in meth psychosis/unstable are, and 99% of them are homeless. Go spend some time around them and find out! Let them in your house!
Not gonna tell ppl how to raise their kids but that Old Town Chinatown bit was... yeah...
You’re way off about Gresham.. 10x safer then anywhere in Portland Metro
how bad is bad cuz from phx it might not be so
How is 350 thousand 'cheap' for a house?! WTF! Real estate agent talking here.
Would kill to get into a home for 350k. That's hella hella cheap
Is flavel inside powellhurst?
Flavel st is in Lents
How is Cully not on here?
I take it this guy has never heard the term "an economy of words".
What about near Tabor Park?
Tabor Park is Amazing! Both North and South Tabor are pretty nice spots.
Nicest area in portland
I moved north of Tabor a year ago. It's very nice still. If I had to live close in PDX it would be Tabor if I could afford it.
Milwaukee forsure
Are you saying it’s bad? There are parts of Milwaukie that are super nice, very high end, but if you’re closer to McLoughlin it’s going to be quite a bit worse.
I used to live in this City, & I remember when The Southeast & Northeast areas always make the new every day for a negative reason. And to this day it still happens.
Maywood Park is not a neighborhood in Portland
S.E & NE the Fraziest!
I ❤ Lents!
Break out the snow plows...
The very worse black heart of Portlands weirdness is city hall ,
Its like walking into an outpost of
the Kremlin.
Living in St.Johns its the best place ever, the community is really friendly.
Where did you move from? I've never even seen a real community in PDX. People are cliquey, judgemental and rude.
This guys list is not accurate, but he probly thinks voodoo doughnuts are good lol!
I’m from Portland but from the hood side
Where my rockwood people at
Is wonder who's fault this is in looking at you California
This guy obviously is new to Portland. There are NO bad neighborhoods in Portland. Everything is relative. You are being sold a product here. Some of these "Worst Neighborhoods" are the best for others.
Hell to the nah; he is right. You're just angry you live in a shitty neighborhood lol
@@hondakid9170 I live in Alameda Noob.
He does not actually live in Portland. He did for a minute, but I think he’s back in Cali or Texas
Just visited Oregon last week .sooo amazing place to lived..love the scenery
❤
The fact is most areas of Portland are safe, our biggest problem in the last 35 or so years is petty theft, car break ins and such. If your car hasn’t been broken into you’re not a Portlander yet...
My older brother had his collection of OR trailblazer sweaters stolen out of his car. They didn’t take anything else just the sweaters.
I hear shots fired almost every damn day in Parkrose, bro. Within a year, I coworked/befriended a murderer and befriended 3 murder victims.
PARKROSE REPRESENT!!
This video doesn’t pass the racist sniff test.
I guess "clean up"means " black remove ." I loved where my family there.Same thing is happened here in Birmingham, Al. All the area you are talking about is black.
fr this dude a racist gentrifying clown
Again, keep the map up and shrink your face to a very small talking head in the corner.
I guess everyone has their own definition of terrible. Visit the Bronx, Compton, certain neighborhoods in Baltimore and then come talk to me.
Yeah I live in the centennial neighborhood (#1 on this list) and I've never felt unsafe living here.
Pleaaasse.... Give me a break!!!!! Stop trying to make one of the safest cities, in USA be a hard place...... I live in Albq , New Mexico. .. been here for 42 yrs... .... Been other places too.... This city is very dangerous.... You can't even imagine the things I ve seen in the past few years!!!!!!!!! There s nothing cool about the ghetto... Portland is not the ghetto, and it is definitely not dangerous......
I live in Portland Oregon. Born and raised. With all due respect when was the last time you were in Portland Oregon? This state has went from being a beautiful place to live and safe enough for me to walk to the store alone at night to boarded up buildings including our courthouse and justice center. The homeless flooding every park, sidewalk and street corner with no one to turn to and limited resources for any kind of help. I live in the Centennial area and it's scary to even drive to the store during the day. We have decriminalized all hard drugs so their wont be much help or consequence on that issue either. Our police departments budget got cut by millions of dollars not to mention under staffed by hundreds and we've had 50 homicides so far this year due to gun violence and the year is only half way through. That is 3 times higher than Seattle Washington which has a higher population than Portland by like 100.000 people. Let's not mention all the human trafficking or the number of children that go missing every year... even worse... the innocent kids that get hurt in the crossfire of these shootings and gang violence. In the last year I have seen so much hate, violence, destruction and death that I fear Portland will never again be a beautiful happy place that feels like home and Portland Oregon being one of the safest states to live in??? That is a joke! It is a blood bath with so much violence and people divided that even our government is giving up. This is no longer the Portland Oregon that some of you may have known. It is more like hell on earth.
Sincerely,
The Centennial Girl
Stephanie , I respect your comment and violence is violence..... You are right.... I m just looking at the population of Albq 550,000 and Portland is 650,000 or so and we have 62 murders already this year, it's crazy here..... But I see Portland and what it was and now , and I understand your feelings... God bless...
I am from Albuquerque but I have lived in Portland for the past 16 years and I can attest that Albuquerque is more dangerous than Portland is. Portland is far safer and more comfortable than ABQ is
@@stephanierowe2025 it depends on what you are use to.. 50 compared to what houston as going on is nothing
@@laquandaplusfamilythingz2319 Houston well considering that last year we had the biggest surge in gun violence that Portland Oregon has EVER seen with 90 homicides, shattering our city's previous high of 66 that was set more than three decades ago. Of those 90 people murdered last year I personally knew 5 of them.
We also had a record high amount of shootings which was 1,288 which also included 385 people wounded and 2022 is not looking much better. Our Police department is understaffed by 128 officers and they are unable to keep up with the violence.
Besides the murder rate we has a record high for car theft and these thief's are just burning cars on the side of the road when they are finished with them and it's a totally normal thing now to the point where a cop will just drive right by a car engulfed in flames. Our homeless community are spilling out into the streets literally. Cars are running them over as they sleep on the side of the road in tents. Portland is a blood and Oregon has pretty much turned into a lawless state.
P town Hoover’s!!
Realtors are ruining this town.
I think it’s the developers that are ruining this town. Building apartments that look like boxes with little character and no on-site parking. The City of Portland has the idea that if you don’t have parking in apartments people will use alternative transportation but the wishful thinking hasn’t worked well. Instead people with cars park in the neighborhood streets around where the live.
just so yalls know PORTLAND IS GHETTO but im used to it
How long have you been a gay?
Burnside has a lot of gangs and cleaning up good luck, the Crimes won’t ever leave, and I don’t plan leaving there, Be honest no one should ever move any of those places regardless if clean up, to many gangs, Cartels and kidnapper, and crazy peoples, if your innocent person your just looking for trouble for stepping into their territory, Beaverton is much better
No way in hell anyone would live in that hell hole dude
i lived in hillsboro or. it wasn't good because im white and theres a lot of mexican people talking trash about you if your white. then i moved to Vancouver wa where i currently live.
I guess they forgot who was there first
It should be called why is Portland the worst city to live in. In the whole country.
Beaverton is the only place to live...
Anywhere in Portland is awful to live.
