I am going to use this setting on my a74+1018. Thx man
This has been my daily driver combo for 6 months. Solid for vlogging and landscape
Nice! I knew that I wasn't the only one using this combo!
Gonna have to take this out for a spin... never occurred to me to swap it from my 6500 over to my RIII... great vid!!!
This lens it's great forma landscape and it's much different with 18-105mm
Thanks, Christopher. This is precisely what I needed to know.
My next purchase will be the 16-35 full frame.
I recommend playing with the sigma 30 for FE. Basically makes a nice, compact nifty fifty.
Thanks for sharing. Do the sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN, I heard it covers a lot of the FF sensor.
Hi, this lens it's more sharp than 28-75mm kit lens? Or best the Sony 16-35
Thanks for the closer look
My current widest full-frame option for my A7II is a Minolta AF 20 F2.8. The Samyang 12 F2 is better on the A6000 and does cover a bit more area than APS-C, especially without the hood.
Awesome!
That might just be my setup for the wide angle part.
Would be nice to see a few more shots and a more in depth review of the two together.
I’d be curious how the censor stabilization works in APS-C mode with this lens.
just what I’m looking for, thank you 🤌🏽
look at samyang 18mm/2.8 It's a full frame lens, that will give u perfect sharpness, a full stop wider aperture, good af and is even smaller than this. it's crazy cheap too.
Making this video you just answered my question. Thank you!!
What camera and lens you used for this video to shot ? It is amazing.
If you remove the rear baffle it improves a lot especially between 14-18mm. Also there is a custom profile somewhere in the internet and I use it with my 7r2 for real estate :). It works great.
My Sony DT 30 F2.8 Macro and DT 50 F1.8 cover my A7II pretty well. The baffles on the DT 35 F1.8 blocks the corners a bit. Of my E-mount APS-C lenses the Sigma 30 F2.8 DN covers the most area.
After Sony released 12-24 GM, I'm glad I have held onto 10-18 for A6400 and A7iii.
I can stand useful info like this in 5 min (or less) chunks. TY!
I'm going to do more bits with apsc lenses like this in short vids. I like watching short videos, might as well make them lol
Well, I am searching for a lens, wide angle for my a7 any recommendations? I was looking at some tutorials and I found that 10 18 mm f4 sony is a great choice what do you think? I want to shoot travel videos using my a7 on a gimbal, maybe you can also recommend a gimbal if you have knowledge on that subject! Thanks.
Would you use it for real estate video on crop mode? On an A7IV for example? I think I would. But certainly not in ff mode
Superb comparison brolls
내가 알고 싶었던 정보를 사진과 같이 잘 정리 해주었습니다. 감사합니다.
I love this lens plus I subbed
David Oastler haha how random to see you here. Hi David!
Welcome back! I've always enjoyed your videos. Glad to see you're back at it! As for the subject of this video, it's very intriguing to me. Like you did, I have a Sony A6000 I bought in the 2-lens kit (16-50 & 55-210), then I added the 50mm/f1.8 (APS-C model), the EXCELLENT Sigma 30mm/f1.4, and finally a Sony 18-105mm/f4. I've been thinking of stepping up to the A7iii based on the rave reviews, but my pockets aren't deep enough to afford FF glass at the same time, so I'm wondering how my APS-C glass would perform while I save pennies for a couple FF lenses. I expect vignetting, but I can work around that. You've done reviews on some of my same lenses in the past. If you still have any of them, and the time/desire to pop out a video, I'd love to see/hear your thoughts on those lenses with your new A7iii. Thanks, and keep the great videos coming!
I'll keep them coming for sure. I've got a handful of apsc left and I intend to try them all out in this video format.
Could you show us more lens tests with Large Format ( mamia ) focal reducer and some sony/vintage full frame lenses on full frame body ? I heard that in many cases you can get the large format look and extra light with almost full frame coverage or even no issues at all, depending on the lens.
I've been wanting to do that, it's a little pricey though...
hi how about the oss? still works?
Yo the vignetting actually looks sick it you want to go for that ultra-wide retro/peephole look
thanks for the video. It looks like there is no problem what so ever with vignetting or anything if you put the camera in super35, yes? This lens is essentially the same as a 15-27mm f6 for the full frame world if you apply a 1.5x crop factor to both the focal length and aperture. The full frame equivalent lens closest to that is the 16-35 f4. For landscape photography, if you intend to shoot at a full-frame equivalent of f8-f11, do you think it would make that much of a difference, using this 10-18mm in super-35 mode versus buying the heavier 16-35? Let's assume the most you'll ever print is a 16*24 photo, on a a7iii?
That question is also bugging me also.
If this lens is not an option for real estate what lens on a budget is for full frame?
Seems like an awesome idea to get super wide. I dont understand why its so soft though? From 12mm with the blurred edges removed shouldnt it be sharp? As sharp as if it was at 12mm on an APSC body? Or u mean just the center is sharp?
It's softer outside of the intended apsc area, but it's not unusable. Definitely social media worthy.
Would.make no visual difference in ff mode regarding edge sharpness as you wouldn't see it much on social media platforms..print applications wouldn't be ideal
I actually think the vignetting gives a really cool effect zoomed all the way out
Defenitely.. like this peephole look right?
You are refreshingly authentic. I like this video a lot compared to to most lens reviews
what about affordable new primes vs vintage primes ?
That's a good idea
What lens’s do you recommend for real estate especially with a73 body ?
I've been getting very good results with the irix 11mm f/4, clients are always thrilled with the photos.
@@ChristopherBurress thank you for the reply. I will definitely look into it. So far I’m considering sigma 14-24
How about you shoot with this lens by turning on APS-C crop function in Sony A7iii ??
Then what's the point of trying it on a full frame camera? If you want to see how it works on apsc, look for a video of it working on apsc. This video shows how it does with a larger sensor.
Should be fine but it goes 10px resolution instead 24px i think
its also my question, because i want to have "cheap" lens on my fe camera, but its like not sharp on ff body
What are the chances that I finally figured out what might be the best combo to upgrade from the M50 so I searched for "Sony A7iii and Laowa 10-18mm. Low and behold...a CZcamsr with my name, spelled the same (and you know that's rare) has the combo that I searched for and made a review...
I think the 16-35 f2.8 gm lens is really good.👍👍😊
But expensive 😭
I don't understand why it would be perfectly usable at 11-13mm but not on 17-18mm. That's too bad. I really need a compact and light 18mm for video work for my A7 series camera. The FE lenses are too big and heavy.
I have played with this lens too. a little bit regret that i traded it away.
how is the image quality when using this lens shooting 4k video? is there any video quality loss?
Barely any, and you can also use apsc video mode. 4k video is only about 8 megapixels so you don't need crazy good lenses
@@ChristopherBurress thanks!
excellent review. but if you are daring..try the canon 10-18mm with sigma adapter on sony a7iii...honestly it blows away the sony at 50% cheaper price.
Sigma 8 to 16mm with amount to e mount adapter. Ihave this and is pretty phunky ;)
How's the autofocus on adapting the Sigma 8-16mm?
@@cuongdiep9827 I think its pretty ok. The lens doesent have a massive bokeh and its pretty sharp. AF is quit and pretty fast. At least theats my experience
Which camera are you using? I have the a6000 and I'm afraid the AF isn't going to be good enough.
@@cuongdiep9827 I have a A7r2 and the somewhat smaller a58, apsc. Bought the lense back in the days for the a58 and adapted it to the A7r2. Please not, I am not in anyway a pro.
After going back and forth, this lens with the mc11 adapter costs the same as a used Sony 10-18mm. I'd rather have native AF and OSS for the same price. Thanks for your input.
Good video.
Thanks!
AWESOME VIDEO! VERY IMPORTANT FOR MY DECISION. I JUST COUDNT CATCH ABOUT REAL ESTATE, YOU DONT RECOMEND?
This lens isnt cheap so it is sort of point less since you are getting an effective focal length of 18-27mm at almost the same price of a full frame Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens. Full Frame & 2.8!
How's the effective focal length 18-27 if the lens is 10-18? The lens is a little half the price of a FF in the same focal range.
10-18mm is the actual physical focal length. (focal length is a physical dimension, not a fov indicator) 18-27 would be the full Frame equivalent which is a more standardized fov indicaton
@@ChristopherBurress FF equivalent in an APS-C camera, but you were shooting a FF camera. If the 10-18 behaves like an 18-27 on FF, then what's the point of using it on FF?
Focal length is always the same on full frame. Only when it's on smaller sensors does it then need a translation for the fov, we use full frame fov as the standard for the translation. So the 10-18mm is 10-18mm on full frame, 18-27 ff equivalent fov when used on crop sensor
Thx for the video as I've the same lens and while I've used it mainly with my Sony a6500, I started to experiment with it on my a7rII. Any idea what the angle of view is on the FF? I noticed that it is wider shooting with the same focal length on a FF vs APSC.
Since you are used to the apsc perspective what you need to do is divide the focal length by 1.5 to get the perspective you are looking at. So a 20mm/1.5=13.3mm when used on FF.
This is kind of reverse from the conventional equivalent math because the full frame camera came first as far as history goes. 20mm x 1.5 = 30mm if you wanted to know what kind of FF lens will give you the same FOV on an apsc body.
@@ChristopherBurress Cool! Thx for the response.
Wish I seen this before I literally just bought it for my a7iii lol & doing a real estate shoot, my luck is terrible
Oof. Fortunately the a7iii still has enough pixels to use the cropped image. I really like the irix 11mm for real estate full frame.
@@ChristopherBurress going to look into that, hopefully I can get good enough images for the agent tomorrow.
Oh you will definitely have good enough images out of it. Just set your camera to apsc mode so you get the framing right.
@@ChristopherBurress thanks for the advice !!
So basically this lens can really do 16-18mm on FF - not bad that's kinda cool ... there's not a whole lot of affordable autofocus ultra wide angle lens for FF.
For photography Would you suggest a a7iii or a a7r ii?
A7iii all the way. Much better low light, faster general operation, 2 sd slots, longer battery life, better autofocus, and 24mp is still plenty of resolution.
make sure you take off the lens hood
I like to switch it around. Sometimes I mount my Zeiss Touit 12mm on my a7iii and my Zeiss 55mm to my a6500. Super 35 mode looks amazing full frame is great but not really necessary for videography.
I got a Sony a5100 with a F4 10-18mm lens. When I shoot in manual mode at F4, 1/120, 60fps the video looks extremely flat and looks nothing like yours. Is the flat, bad image quality because of the a5100 body ?
You don't apply the crop factor on a full frame body. 10mm is still 10mm. Similarly, f4 is well F4.
Yeah, but if an apsc shooter wants to know how wide it seems on FF, he is used to what he can see with an apsc sensor, so you tell him it's 10mm FF he's like "yeah I've shot that, how is it any different?" you tell him is nearly 6mm on what he's used to and he's intrigued because thats certainly in the niche lense category and he's probably never used a lense with that FOV before.
How about video?
Sigma 56mm f1.4 on FF.
I need to get my hands on that lens....
Wow! A 10mm on full frame?!
Heavy vignette tho
#2wide2handle
a7iii can be set to APSC mode
Yes it can, that's what I used for the apsc mode shots in this video.
@@ChristopherBurress This lens is great for video, but I am not sure if the a7iii performs better in low light with it than the a6500 does, need to try that out :)
Anton V. A7iii has the same low light performance as the a7sii below 124,000 ISO... lol
The image qaulity looks bit basic tho.
As expected.
Total sacrifice of quality for full frame. Better off saving for a FF super wide. Going that wide just for social media you are better off using your camera phone i.e. IPhone 11 / Pro Max
Why don’t you turn on auto APC lens conversion on the Sony?
Because I want to see what happens with full frame.
From what I understand, the APS-C mode on the FF bodies limits how much of the sensor is being used. Essentially, you're using an APS-C size area of the FF sensor and losing megapixels, so instead of a 24MP FF sensor, it acts like a 16MP APS-C sensor. That eliminates most or all of the vignetting at the cost of resolution. In that case, a 24MP body like the A6000 would likely give better shots. I may be wrong in this thinking, though, and I'll gladly bow to anyone who knows for certain.
You're totally right, but it actually acts as only a 10mp sensor, you need to divide both the width and height of the sensor by the crop factor to get the correct resolution. So you would get sharper photos from a 24mp apsc sensor.
Did anyone here watch the video? 🤦♂️. Amazing.
I’m just wanting a ~16-35mm without the 16-35mm price lol
get the tamron 17-28 and a 35mm tamron 2.8 Rockinon\Samyag 35mm 2.8... and you are sorted for cheaper.
I would love to see how it looks when it is on gorilla pod and you are vlogging with it at various zoom levels. Don't think I would use this combo for my vlogs and would just use a6500 as intended but would be interesting to see.
I should have included that, you're right. Why didn't I think of that....
I had the 10-18 and it's really not good, I've covered my points in a review
I've seen reviews saying that it's bad and some saying that it's good. I love mine and the image quality is good. But other people have had a different experience.
did you say stupidly cheap? because i remember canon 10-18 being 200 dollars : p
Well that's certainly cheaper lol. More talking on the full frame wide zoom side of things. When compared to the apsc offerings it's not the best deal out there.
Great video mate! I gave this lens a shot on my A7III as well. I'm pretty happy with it. Check out my latest video. :)
background so dark, you can hide batman in there
You're so cute!
Someone broke into my car and stole mine along with the sigma 16mm... so sad
Oh no! That's terrible!
you're so cute
$600-$800 is cheap? Haha! Ok.
Relative to the nearly $2,000 of the full frame ultrawide zoom... Yeah.
Uhmm, im calling Bullshit! 1:39 "Zoom in to 11-12mm giving you a APS-C equivalent 7-8mm" Uhmm, No! a 10-18mm APS-C lens, zoomed in at 11-12mm = 7-8mm on APS-C!! wuhhhh???
Sorry to spoil your day :-)
