This is a cover of the Options/Credits theme from the 1993 Genesis game Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball. With the games rushed development cycle and use of the G.E.M.S sound driver nobody expected the music to be awesome. Yet, some of it is, and the Options theme is arguably one of them, once you look past the overdriven guitar powerchords which sound like Tessla coils.
For this cover I decided to limit myself to just one keyboard, and I picked the Casio CTK691. This 61 key workstation keyboard was released around 2007 and I had it's larger brother, the WK3000, given to me second hand when I was about 8 years old. This keyboard has a unique sound to it's samples onboard which I quite enjoy. This song is not using the keyboard to it's full potential.
All tracks came raw from the keyboard and were recorded over two days in January 2024. The main mix of the song occurred on January 15th with final touches applied on the 20th. All effects are simply Audacity plugins, since my audio interface can't (easily) record in stereo.
Recorded using Audacity 3.0.2 software, a Focusrite Scarlett Solo MK-III interface and an MSI Vector GP76 laptop.
All parts learned by ear (slowly) and played by hand. No auto accompanyment or MIDI sequencing was used.
24 bit/88.2 KHZ WAV file and Stem available on request. DM KanawhaCountyWX on Discord or Twitter.
Composed by Howard Drossin, Brian Coburn and Barry Blum. Performed by KanawhaCountyWX. All rights belong to SEGA.
