- Dr. Eggman has been an incredible antagonist to Sonic since day 1, and his genius has brought with it tons of very clever schemes, but also some pretty stupid ones.
Today, we’re looking at Eggman’s character in every mainline Sonic game and ranking him from worthless to elite. - Hry
shoutout to when eggman literally grabbed sonic and held him underwater trying to drown him in sonic x

3 things I want to point out:
1. In Sonic Unleashed, Eggman didn't want to control a beast that was beyond his control, he didn't want to control Dark Gaia, he just wanted to harness Dark Gaia's energy to use on his things, at the end when Dark Gaia was whole again, he just told Dark Gaia to crush Sonic but that didn't work at all
2. And in Sonic Frontiers, Eggman ALSO didn't want to control a beast that was beyond his control, Eggman came to the Starfall Islands in search of the secrets of the Ancient technologies, so he could study it and create better machines, weapons, etc. The Cyberspace is where all the Ancients knowlodge and memories are stored so Eggman wanted those for his own selfish reasons, but during the process he accidentally activated the entire archipelago's security system made to protect anyone from freeing The End, making everything be activated on the islands, the guardians and titans appearing, Cyberspace locking everyone in, the Chaos Emeralds being locked in vaults, etc.
3. It wasn't Sage who locked up Sonic's friends, she was helping Eggman on the outside since he couldn't leave Cyberspace, yes, but Tails, Knuckles and Amy were locked inside of Cyberspace for the same reason Eggman did, the Island was trying to secure The End from being free, Sonic was the only one not locked because he was the only one who could freely travel in and out of Cyberspace, that's even the reason why The End called him "the key" and wanted him to do the dirty work by defeating the titans, which would open the Cyberspace making everyone being able to get out of it, freeing Tails, Knuckles and Amy like Sonic wanted (and Eggman too by an extent), but also freeing The End in the process since it was also trapped in there just like Eggman, Tails, Knuckles and Amy
Sage KNEW about The End and wanted to keep it away from being free, that's why she tells Eggman what he did was really silly, and that's the reason she is telling Sonic to leave the whole game while constantly attacking it, while she also is trying to find a way to free Eggman from Cyberspace without freeing The End aswell
If anything, Eggman deserves some praise for creating Sage

I love that Eggman had a backup Egg Carrier only for Perfect Chaos to immediately destroy it.
Very happy to see Sonic CD be elite! The lengths he goes in that game is truly horrifying, to the point where I personally consider it to be the darkest Sonic game of them all, even more than SA2 and Shadow. He’s a complete psychopath in Sonic CD, and every single bad future and it’s music will make you feel awful every time. You can’t do anything, so don’t even try. Horrifying. Nightmare level villainy, if you ask me.

Sonic CD is underrated. 4 different versions of every stage makes every time feel fresh to play. I just wish they could’ve made another Sonic game like it and evolved the concept.

Notice how all of Eggman's "elite" games, involve him winning for someduration of time? I feel like that's not a good enough metric for his threat levels given that he is just as clearly a MAJOR threat in games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure. I think there needs to be another tier that reads something like "Just Shy of Success/Elite" cause a lot of the ones that got placed in the "A Major Threat" tier feel like they range in threat levels. I guess I'm saying that the "A Major Threat" tier needs to be separated into 2 tiers so that the stuff that would qualify as "more likely to end the world" could be properly separated from the stuff that "is only threatening to x specific character".

Sonic Rush games for Eggman boss are really crazy for me that I really loved.
The egg wizard & egg salamander being Multiversal+ power of the stars, having magical abilities The sheer force of its power can create earthquakes and when channeled, it can destroy entire planets. On its own, the Egg Wizard is capable of flight at speeds matching that of Super Sonic and Burning Blaze. It can also launch excessively large missiles and restore itself at will.
I believe the egg wizard is also Eggman's most powerful weapon besides the time eater,final egg blaster etc.

Hey to be fair in Sonic Generations the two Robotniks had to go against two Sonics. I mean if one Sonic can beat one Robotnik, how could two Robotniks beat two Sonics? So I don't exactly agree with you on this one.
The other one I don't quite agree with is actually Sonic 4 episode 1. I think he should be kind of dumb in that because he is literally doing the same bosses all over again with the third one actually being a little different but that's it.
Eggman Nega is confirmed to be from Silver's future and as Eggman's descendant.
It's never clarified well in the source materials. But in all likelihood, Eggman Nega poised himself as an alternate counterpart of Eggman to make sure he doesn't… you know… get written out of existence by accident by revealing he's his descendant.
Also, speaking of Rivals, Eggman actually plays a crucial role in Rivals 2 because he's always in communication with Shadow about Nega's plans. I don't know where he'd be ranked here seeing as he doesn't play the villain here.
He's implicitly in Rivals but he's been into a card by the start of the game, so he'd be ranked Worthless.
Would give extra point for Eggman by aiming and shooting Sonic like an insane supersonic bullet at The End on the Sonic Frontiers DLC. Yeah it wasn't evil but it was useful for everyone and that scene was epic as fuck

in issue #14 of the IDW comics, Dr. Starline attempts to destroy Sonic (and Silver) in a well-thought out and executed plan, which appears to succeed. Despite this apparent success however, Eggman is enraged, saying: "The hedgehog is MINE to destroy! I could carpet bomb him any day! That's not enough- that's NOT THE POINT! I have to BEAT HIM! I have to prove I'm SUPERIOR!"
Eggman doesn't just want Sonic to be defeated. He specifically wants to be the one to defeat Sonic, and anyone trying to beat him to the punch is his enemy as well.

Eggman character development on Frontiers was emotional
In the case of Sonic Frontiers, Eggman didn't just not understand the full power of The End, he didn't even know The End existed, Eggman was simply trying to harness the power of the Ancients' technology, he had no idea The End was a thing. Sage was the one of trapped Eggman in Cyberspace to protect him from The End while also failing to tell him what she was doing. Probably cause she knew that if she told Eggman about The End, he would try release The End from its prison so he can harness its power

Dr. Eggman is one of the greatest video games villains there is! He may be goofy at times, but there are also other times where he can be very threatening especially when he blows up half the moon or holding Amy at gunpoint in Sonic Adventure 2. Eggman is a little bit goofy in the later games especially in Sonic Boom even though Mike Pollock still did a great job voicing him just like Deem Bristow did in the games.
In eggman's defense for the Rush games and Generations, there WERE two sonics, so...

7:11 - You kinda glossed over the parts where Eggman and Eggman Nega beat up Blaze with the Egg Salamander to get the Sol Emeralds, used the Sol Emeralds to tap into The Power of the Stars (a primordial cosmic power that can reshape the multiverse), almost merged Sonic’s universe with the Sol Dimension with the now Super-level Egg Salamander, and took on two Super forms at once in an even fight. Also, the Egg Salamander is one of the few Eggman machines that can outright hurt a Super form. So this is easy bump to Pretty Menacing.

I'd put him in SA2 in elite.
I understand why Heroes' Eggman is in the Worthless Tier since he got captured by Neo Metal Sonic and then got beat up by Team Chaotix, but he did also give Team Chaotix their missions.
I bring this up because many of the missions involve stymying Neo Metal Sonic's plans. For example: Rescuing Chao in Ocean Palace and Lost Jungle prevents Neo Metal Sonic from getting more Chaos Data. Destroying the enemies in Grand Metropolis and Power Plant liberates the city from Neo Metal Sonic's control and prevents him form stealing its energy. Destroying the capsules in Bullet Station destroys the Shadow Androids within, or at least destroying ways for Neo Metal Sonic to transport them. The rest of the missions serve the purpose of guiding Team Chaotix to where Eggman is imprisoned so he can be freed as soon as possible. Despite being locked in a room for most of the game, he did manage to be involved throughout the game's story.
This could be grounds to move Heroes' Eggman up to at least the Kinda Dumb Tier, but having a game in the Worthless Tier is better for content.
in 06 after all he still does a lot to stop sonic and friends, apart from wanting to harness the princess power, the usual bases full of robots, he makes sonic and dark team fall into a trap blocking them into the future so he could do what he wanted, and escaped sonic many times with the princess, the real bad thing would have happened because of a malfunction killing him and elise but sonic avoided that, but in the final area i recall that he helped coordinate as usual the other characters to fetch the emeralds (this is at least what i remember)
In case no one said it yet, for the egg robo in sonic 2 you can hit it with well timed jumps over the claws you can also play it safe and hit him from behind if you jump over the fire

I'd have to rate the Sonic Advance games higher, since he succeeds in kidnapping all of Sonic's friends in 2, everyone but Sonic and Tails in 3, and intentionally splits the world in 3.

Hm, I could also not forget the one to add when you vouched for CD-Eggman being the most brutal that it wasn't even mentioned that if during that one race that everyone was popular with, that if Metal Sonic failed, despite being his front-liner of the game, was killed by the Doom Beam and he didn't even show signs to care in the game at all, making him a bit more cruel even than Lord Freiza there for the "cost of failure = death" treatment. (well, we know he simply rebuilt Metal Sonic later on, but....)
Also I do agree with the other users here too, but I have to add this: Despite Sonic Forces being somewhat a bit disappointing but not awful, the fact that Sonic had to go with his younger self AND *you* as two others makes this side serious; He is a pain to Sonic, while Infinite is a pain to *you* just the same, yikes!
Sonic Forces has C-tier gameplay with an S-tier story.
So Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine isn't not good enough for you? It's canon man, CANON! You had one job to bring glory to this game, and you shoved it under the rug...
