Damaged By Fire DEVON 5403-Li-20 Rotary Hammer Drill Restoration

DEVON 5403 lightweight electric hammer, purchased for $8.
The outer shell was badly burned by fire. Fortunately, the main control circuit is basically intact and can be restored to function after simple repairs.
The mechanical parts are fully functional and show little to no wear.
The rotor cooling fan blades were burned, and the main shaft was accidentally damaged during replacement, so the rotor was replaced with a new one.
Finally perfectly restored.

To my utter shock and amazement, this repair is not nearly as worthless as it might appear at first glance. I decided to do some research, and found out that the shells of a drill like this are actually cheap, like under $20. Provided that the internal components are fine, it might be worth it. Major caveat, though, I was going by the pricing of a similar drill from Ryobi, and not this exact drill, but I'd reason the prices for parts are similar. The most expensive part is, unsurprisingly, the motor and circuit board. However, this guy had to replace the motor shaft, and Ryobi does not sell that separately from the rest of the motor, so I have no idea how much that could cost. That being said, I don't think this is a particularly good idea. Given this drill was in a house fire, the heat might have compromised some components, meaning it might up and fail in short order. But, if it was just a broken case, with no heat involved, that would be worth fixing, especially a higher end tool. This tool, on the other hand, seems to be a budget brand tool.

Arguably. To my utter shock and amazement, drill shells are only like $20. So, this is a tool that retails for $150, approximately, and was purchased for $8 (Incidentally, who would sell something like this? I would think most people would just trash it, or give it away for free.)
So, replacing the case and some other bits would be not all that expensive. That being said, given this drill was in a house fire, I'd hesitate to try fixing it, given the heat could have compromised components in a way that is not visually apparent. Especially since this is a budget brand tool, and would not cost that much to replace. So, this technically saves money, but not enough to be worth it. A higher end tool is far more likely to be worth it.
