One of the drivers Walter Rohrl refused to drive in Finland (the course in Finland has a ton of big high speed jumps) when asked why he answered
"If I wanted to fly I would have become a pilot, flying is not for me"
Amd the fighter polits didn't want to race because if they wanted to be so close to the ground they would have been drivers.
You can never please anyone.
That's just stupid explaining for his cowardice.
@@polhokustaavaasa6897 He's the guy that beat Audi quattro with an 037.
The last time a rear wheel car beat an all drive car.
Pretty impressive for a coward.
Idk how humanity as a whole survived the 1980s lmao
Me neither, but one thing I'm positive, they had a lot of fun.
Juha Kankkunen was wrc champions but also group B champion with the peugeot 205, trust him he knows what he is saying.
There were basically only two rules for these cars. They needed to have a roof and two seats side-by-side. No limits on size engine horsepower etc. It ended in 1987 as you said due to safety concerns due to multiple deaths of both drivers and spectators
There was a limit on engine size but not power.
There was also a minimum weight limit. Bur that.was something rediculas like 800kg
I drive like this everyday!! 😢😢😢 I almost had a heart attack just watching this, thanks for the boost to my heart and bloodstream Kabir!!
That awesome sound of the Audi Quattro came from a 2.1 L 5 cylinder engine. In the Audi 200 it generated 170 hp, or 220 hp for the 2.2 L 20-valve version. In the 1981 rally car it started with 305 hp, by 1986 the 20-V engine arrived to the team with 450 hp, then was tuned up to 600+.
Antti Kalhola put together a video about the Group B using footage, reports and narration from the era, in my opinion it's even better than this one, check it out!
czcams.com/video/zpzOf4-6GoE/video.html
Edit: it does have interviews with the drivers as well. 👍
Juha is Finnish for John and it is pronounced YOU ha.
That Audi S1 is still faster then a modern RS3 😂❤
You ask if someone died? Yeah several. Group b was about to close after the accident in Portugal but the final drop I think was when the Lancia pilot Henry died on race. Rip. 😢
even today rally drivers are the best driver in the world...
check out Driver 61 group video were he explains a bit of the history of group b :)
Attilio Bettega died on Tour De Corse, year later Henri Toivonen crashed his S 4 and both him and co pilot Sergio Cresto burned to death inside the car. Also year prior Portugese pilot crashed into spectators killing 3 and hurting over 30 with his Ford RS 200 .
You can still get very close to rally course . Take a look at any 1000 lakes rally , or Portugal.
There were fingers inside T 16 in Portugal, some spectator lost them.
1:25 For men and a very special woman, Michelle Mutton.
I think it's more accurate to say Group B was for legends. (both cars and drivers were legendary, from a legendary decade)
2:25 how do you think those amazing shots where made?
The drivers weren't the only ones with balls of steel.
The drivers were instructed to ignore the spectators. If they didn't get out of their way it is not the drivers problem.
Big up to the Queen of Group B : the PUG 205T16 ❤❤❤
These rallies where held mostly in Europe like Finland, Sweden, Italy, France, England, Greece and Portugal, but also a little bit all over the world.
I know some of those were in Portugal
Group B is a real spectator sport.
There was more spectators killed in one year of group B that actually contendets in the lifetime of snooker
My good sir, please have a glance at Pikes Peak.
Min 4.50 Walter Rohl..... The best
3:50 bro really said “it must have a v8” 💀💀
Is this one of those "tell me you never been to europe" statment?
@@matsv201 yea x)
Peugeot at this time was fire
Are you posting your own reaction to the one that you did a long time ago?
aka killer-bees !
Aventador 0-100 in 2.8 seconds, Lancia delta S3 0-100 in 2.3 seconds ON FUCKING GRAVEL, that was the actual insanity of group B, and the crazy things they did, like make the roll cage our of cardboard, produce only 200 series cars and move them to another spot so the number looked double on paper
Unfortunately, rally racing is one of the most dangerous forms of racing in the world. Group B rally was THE most dangerous form of rally.
31 people were injured, and 3 had died in the 5 season stretch it was alive. The 1986 Rally of Corsica was the final nail in the coffin for Group B rally.
You mean three spectators. There were at least four competitors who died (drivers and co-drivers, Bettega, Toivonen, Cresto, Wyder) and some had severe injuries.
The audi is a five cylinder
Min 7.58 Michelle Mouton, the Queen. Min 8.02 Stig Blomquist.
Audi is a 5 cylinder, best sounding 5 cylinder ever made
imagine 1986, no abs no power steering, kevlar bodies on spaceframe chassis, the final evolution of the sport quattro had almost 600 hp, double whats allowed today. if you made a mistake most of the time you were fucked.. you had to be absolutely insane to pilot these things
Shitty shocks and struts, shitty brakes.
@@benvaun1330 lmao not really but good try tho.
1980/90 was my time......
Never happen again
Group b was cancelled coz the cars just became too dangerous and fast, too many people died
Min 8.18 Michelle Mouton
Min 8.13 - 8.18 Michelle Mouton....The Qeen
Min 6.15 Ari Vatanen
