Jeremy Kyle and Grace Blakeley Have A HEATED Debate Over Immigration

  • Piers Morgan Uncensored with Jeremy Kyle is joined by TalkTV contributor Esther Krakue and socialist author Grace Blakeley to discuss BP earning $6.9 Billion during the cost of living crisis and they talk about the growth in migration.
    They start off by discussing the recent figure released by BP of earning $6.9 Billion whilst many are struggling in a cost of living. Esther believes we shouldn't need a windfall tax if these big profitable corporations are "paying what they should be paying". Grace adds that big companies receiving these large amounts whilst many struggle to afford food is "immoral, irrational and it makes no sense".
    Finally, they debate the impact of the growth of migration and if it is a good or bad thing for the country. Grace debates that migrants are the backbone of this country and have helped contribute massively to industries like the NHS. Jeremy however believes that the benefits system in this country makes it easy for people to come here and live without working, which stokes a back and forth between Grace, Esther and Jeremy on whether there is truth to this statement or if it's a "gross generalisation".

    She is not living in the real world, I am surrounded by people who choose not work !! they all have cars, big tv's, loud sound systems and quad bikes they illegally drive up and down my street all day in the summer. I asked one of them what they pay in rent once, they told me that the rent was £650 per month, however they only pay £80 and the government (tax payer) covers the rest.

    Do you know what, I can’t be bothered to work, so I’m going to pretend I’m ill and go on UC and live in luxury on my scrounged £7,000 per year. Woohoo! I’m rich beyond my wildest dreams! It could be 3 x as much and you’d still be struggling financially. What person in their right mind doesn’t want to work and have a quotidian routine. The idea that living on benefits is desirable for millions of people is just flat out absurd. The tiny minority that do will most likely be victims of poverty and inequality. As always it’s socialism for the minuscule elite and hardline capitalism for the poor.

      Neither of them were given much time to form a coherent argument, but she raised a good point about distinguishing between refugees and migrants. If they’re refugees then I’m less clear on whether they’re beneficial to the economy, but it’s clear that even if they’re not… the UK doesn’t take on anywhere near as many refugees as other European countries and of course refugees are by definition in need of support and in the same way as a significant portion of taxes are paid to foreign aid relatively wealthy and safe countries have a duty to support refugees whether from the Middle East or Ukraine. If they’re not refugees but just migrants then the economic data is fairly clear that they contribute more to the UK in tax than they receive in benefits.
      The more complex question is how best to discourage people smugglers and sadly there’s no evidence to indicate that this is an effective way of reducing people smuggling. In my opinion, the obviously best way to reduce this is to provide safe and legal routes for people to apply for refugee status in the UK from France or elsewhere so that they have no motivation to be smuggled across the border in the hope of demanding consideration for refugee status.

    • @Muzikman127
      @Muzikman127 Před 4 měsíci

      @@Joseph_Roffey another good way would be to stop destroying other people's countries. So many of the migrants come from north Africa, and they started coming when we started bombing Libya to oblivion, destroying that country and having a knock on effect on the countries around it. Similar story with those refugees from the war in Syria, without the Iraq war there would be no ISIS. Same with those fleeing Afghanistan, and Iran, countries with heavy Western sanctions _designed_ to starve the people there. And now Gaza, people being killed with British and American bombs and bullets, another mass refugee crisis looming. And Egypt, people fleeing a particularly nasty Western backed dictator. It always seems so rich to me, UK politicians complaining about migrants. How about stop taking part in causing the catastrophic damage to other people's countries that cause them to have to flee in the first place?? Isn't that a good idea?? Why do we think we can rain fire on these countries, especially those on the Mediterranean, and then act surprised when the boats start coming across??

    There are going to be people who can't work through Ill health or caring for disabled family, but for those that can work, then they should.

Also stop blaming companies for making money when the prices are due to governments limiting supply, manipulating markets, insider trade, revolving door politics, regulations, move to green energy, war and fear of further conflicts. How are they "immoral" if you just said they are passing it onto their shareholders? They aren't just keeping it for themselves? Countries like america releasing millions of barrels, in some cases essentially giving them away to other countries, instead of creating new projects to solve the issues. There are far bigger issues than some guy who has puts 10% of his income into oil stock for past 10 years. Also countries like saudi don't respect the current u.s president cause hes a tool.

    • @Joseph_Roffey
      @Joseph_Roffey Před 2 lety

      Imagine you have a wage of £26,000 (average in the UK)… After tax that’s about £21,200… Below average cost of living in the UK would cost you £900 / month… Which leaves you about £10,400 per year. Let’s say you invest that in shares in oil companies…
      Meanwhile someone else has a wage of £50,000 per year, slightly higher cost of living… You still have £22,000 you can put in shares in oil companies…
      So the year finishes, the oil companies give money to their shareholders… That means they’re giving more than 2x the money to the people who are wealthier, than the people who are average…. Now imagine instead of a person who’s earning £50,000, you have a family who are worth hundreds of millions and have offshore accounts and clever accountants to minimise their taxes… And they decide they’re going to use some clever accounting to purchase some oil company shares and minimise any tax on capital gains they receive… Suddenly they pay out £100 to the average person, £200 to the well off person and £5,000,000 to the already incredibly wealthy family. In this way, “giving money to shareholders” rather than investing it in improving the country actually actively makes wealth distribution less equal rather than investing in a Green economy, which yes would increase the value of the shares if successful, but would at least also reduce the cost of living for everyone, so that in 10 years, the food and energy costs go down, so that instead of £10,400 after just living for a year on an average wage the average person might have £11,000 because energy and therefore food have become cheaper to produce (and transport).
