    No mention of Recross the Paths? Being able to fully stack your deck in any order you want is a defining feature of Modern Belcher decks.

      Yup, I think it’s neat and influential enough to the design it’s worth adding something to mention it, and the current builds that still make it happen as the main goal even without spirit guide

    When I got my first magic product (Duel decks, goblins vs merfolk) I wondered why this card would ever be good. Gotta play lands right? Later I discovered its true power.

    I just wanted to say that I've been binging all your videos for 3-4 years now.
    Thank you for your hard work. And don't be discouraged if series like these get less views or likes, because there are plenty of people like me who love them :) take care

    Anyone else enjoy seeing these in their Recommended list and like leaving them there for a while to build anticipation? I really enjoy this series, but I don't always watch the new episodes when they drop because the deep dives require more attention to engage with, but I always watch them eventually because they're so good and that engagement is rewarding. I enjoy binging these too, so saving up a few episodes to watch all at once is nice.

    I attempted to make this deck work in standard during the Mirrodin Block, using Proteus Staff + Sound the Alarm + Charbelcher. Sound the Alarm makes 2 tokens that I use to activate the staff. The staff reveals the top cards of my deck until I hit a creature, then arrange order of the revealed cards on the bottom of my deck. Since I dont run creatures, the card allows me to re-arrange the entire deck for a lethal Charbelcher next turn
    Unfortunately, the strategy is not only vulnerable (I remember Mirrodin had a good number of artifact hate), but its slow as f*** to pull off O.O I just ended up running a mono-white deck with several equipment bec I just wanted to go unga boonga XD

      That's a really creative way of pulling it off. It's a pity that Mirrodin block and standard devolved into affinity vs unplayable piles.

    The Vintage section was a bit off. I remember Belcher being a 5 color deck using every broken card imaginable in vintage around 2003. when empty the Warrens was printed it got a new toy and went Red Green.

    It wasn't tournament topping, obviously... But 2003 most certainly had a dedicated belcher deck that came out before that extended pt... Proteus Belcher. Control deck with create tokens. Stacked the deck with staff, Drew and activated belcher for the win.

    Belcher in Vintage dates back to 2003 with players like Michael Simister, who piloted the deck to a T4 finish at the 2004 Vintage Championship, Justin Droba, who took a blue-less version to a T8 at SCG Chicago in 2005 as well as a number of smaller scale wins, and Nat Moes, who reduced Droba's versions down to two colors after red started to get rituals. There was also quite a bit of work done on the deck in Europe during that time frame, but the legalization of Grim Tutor made Storm decks around Yawgmoth's Will far far more consistent than they had been since the 4 Burning Wish days and Belcher decks fell by the wayside because they were less resilient to hate and more likely to mulligan into oblivion, making the gain in speed not worth the lack of robustness.

  • @Krunschy
    @Krunschy Před 2 lety

    Some of these decklists without Infernal Tutor really don't read like they should be anywhere near consistent enough with drawing Belcher and finding their land at the same time. Also if your opponent happens to have the Force of Will for your Belcher, you basically lose that game.
    Making Empty the Warrens work on the other hand seems way easier. You don't care about your land, nor do you care about (most) countermagic. Only problem is that taking 2 turns to close out the win might be too slow in Legacy.

      Yeah I don't think it would be a problem If you could use a nonbasic land tutor to get a bad overcosted spell. Or play a deck with only lands and some weird spells on their backs
