I love the way we play.
"The secret of change is focusing on building the new and not fighting the old."
I always remember when he joined us he said he wants us (City fans) to be proud of the way we play, and I am. We're showing the right signs (of playing great football) and that's what I love. That's how I know we're on the right track. He's all about how we handle ourselves on the pitch and off the pitch, and that clearly shows.

Why dafuq do people want Pep to change his style. It's actually ridiculous. How would football progress if you don't accept change. Pep's football has created some of the best teams in football history that would be remembered for decades. So the English need to get off this mans back

Pep's football? I'm sorry, lets get some facts straight right now. Before Pep took over the Barcelona team, were they not already a world beating team? When Pep took over Bayern Munich, they had just won the Champions League. Did Bayern win the Champions league under Pep? Let me save you looking it up on Google; Bayern was knocked out at the Quarter finals. So Pep comes to the Premier League and guess what...nothing. So Pep's football is bullshit, it doesn't work unless you have a team like Barcelona, which is possibly the best team that ever walked on the face of the earth.

Atlantic Moving Picture Limited can easily counter this comment by saying before chelsea changed into 3-4-3 this season would you have said that if they change into it they would win the league? defo not because at the time they were doing bad and just a change of formation shouldnt impact them that much but it actually did it's not magic or the quality of the players it's simply the tactics and style of play you don't need the best players in the world for tactics to work but obviously the players need to complement the tactics for example peps tactics need good passers and of the ball and aggressive and players with high work rate on and off the ball etc.

A bit of context. This interview was done at the end of the 2016/17 season and Manchester City didn’t win a trophy.
People said Pep needed to change but he said his style is fine the way it is. He listened to what people said, but knew why they were wrong and stuck to his convictions.
Now it is season 2017/18 and his team have only lost one game (to Liverpool) and are dominating the Premier League. Pep was right, he didn’t need to change his style, he just needed the right players.
Moral of the story: if you know you are right, stay true to that.

  • @davidlogan8905

I'm a Utd fan, but I think Pep is brilliant and is clearly a very intelligent man in the world of football. You can tell he thinks creatively and 'outside the box' with his interpretation of "what is a defensive team?"
He's right to stick with his method, who else's method can he possibly use but his own?! Completely abandoning his style is not an option; all he can do is make some tweaks here and there in order to adapt, but then that's what he had to do in Germany as well. Maybe he underestimated the particulars of the PL, but all he can do is learn from experience and adapt to it - and that's a more subtle thing than changing your style. It's like how conducting yourself differently at work than at home doesn't mean you have changed who you are, it just means you have adapted.

David Logan He is shit mate, he talks about trophies that he has won with the strongest teams at the moment having the best players in a league that's ruled by 1 or 2 teams. Tell my what has he achieved this season? He has been exposed! Look how easy La liga is Zidane took over in his first half year he won the CL in his second the league and can also win the CL. At least Zidane rebuild Real, Pep took over a overpowered Barca and enjoyed the succes.

    • @verbplural5631
      @verbplural5631 Před 7 lety +3

Ro Na as a man united supporter myself.. i think that comment against Pep and that Barcelona team he took over was unfair.. he made some key changes such as getting rid of golden Boy Ronaldinho and Deco as well as telling Eto to smarten up or suffer the same fate. He being of Catalan upbringing and from the academy understanding the Cruff philosophy and practices it religiously, he simply reminded the team and the club of their traditions. He reinforced it by playing certain players that adapted to it alot easier and that's what made it work. Now having said that he also had Messi that most teams were scared to death of which made his philosophy easier to implement since the opposition were also trying to work out how to stop Messi. Messi thrived under Pep as well too though as he was given more space based on the Barcelona philosophy. At Bayern he had the players but they were not built for his type of football so didn't get the coveted prize in the champions league. Still I like how he is a football man, loves the game and is willing to tweak a few things to change the style, that can only improve the game.

It is ridiculous that people even ask him to change completely. He changes little by little in his own philosophy to get better, but starting from the scratch would be waste of his talents. Also his way won so many trophy, in two different countries, created teams that could last a long time and played amazing throughout the career, why would he change based on one season's result, with a team that needed massive revamping and needed two seasons just to get back on track(according to some source)

Gary Neville couldn't last 4 months in Spain's La Liga and probably would have been thrilled to finish third place with a chance to play in the Champion's League. Would it be fair to say that Pep's worst year as a manager was more successful than Gary Neville's best?

Hernan let's examine the facts, Gary Neville is from England, he played for Man United and the English National team, coached for the English National, played for legendary manager Alex Ferguson. If he's criticizing Guardiola's tactics then surely he must think he knows more about football strategy than Guardiola. My question to you is, why didn't his superior English tactics survive more than 4 months in Spain's lowly La Liga Santander?

Anyone who claims Pep inherited a great team at Barcelona is speaking from ignorance. Barcelona was struggling under Frank Rijkaard and didn't win a trophy in 2006 - 07. When Guardiola took over he dismissed Ronaldinho, Deco, Zambrotta and Thuram and replaced them with young players from the reserve squad (Busquets, Pedro, Fabregas, Thiago) Barcelona became a great team because of Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola's biggest failure was that there were key players in and out of the squad throughout the season. Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho missed a lot of games because of suspensions compromising continuity and form. Also the captain, Vincent Kompany was out because of injury. Perhaps pairing John Stones (a young player) with Otamendi or Kolorov was not ideal as either may not have the leadership or organizing abilities on the pitch. And there is Claudio Bravo, lol.

To be fair, its about time Guardiola started taking criticism with a bit more dignity. To compare his performance as a Manager to Gary Neville's is a bit rich anyway. I'm sure if Neville had Messi, Suarez and Neymar up front he would have found things a bit easier at Valencia....! He's starting to sound a bit like Wenger.....if he's not prepared to accept that he may have to adapt his style of play for the Premier League and keeps finishing 3rd or 4th then surely he needs to acknowledge that he has been a failure...! I like him as a coach but I hope he doesn't turn into the other tosser in Manchester who blames everything else but himself....but is happy to take all the glory when things go well.

And one season or not.....even by his own admission he has said he would have been sacked if he had performed like this over there. And less of the mong.....

hahah really your comparing what pep did at barcelona to what neville did in valencia is ridiculous ...pep got a barcelona in its prime that team could win cups without a manager face it its a fact! neville did fail at valencia but it was an already doomed squad when gary took over guardiola has a very nice style of attacking football hentought he would win alot with city in his first season lmao

pep is so selective, he lets down very key players most times because of sentiments, Iheanacho was the most prolific striker in the EPL at a point until he sent him to the bench killing his form...the result is a trophyless season for city.

He's too stubborn to realise he must change. You don't have time on the ball like La Liga or in Germany. And this I don't like tackling, ridiculous in English football.

Guardiola's style has been failing season after season. Winning the league with Bayern Munchen could be done even with Gary Neville as coach, given the distance between Bayern and the other teams. Now, in Guardiola's last 2 seasons in Barcelona he lost the Copa del Rey and La Liga to Real Madrid, and the Champions League to Chelsea. In Bayern, lost in the UCL all 3 seasons, and in City, failed in all competitions. So, it's not a novelty. Except from his 3 first career seasons, which were a surprise to others, he was successful. After this, the other clubs studied his style of play and he suffers many many goals. His style is simply too risky, and he will not win anything again, probably. Only some games: 3-1 to Monaco, 5-3 against Monaco, 4-0 to Everton, 4-2 to Leicester, 3-1 to Chelsea, 4-0 to Barça, last seasons 4-0 to Real Madrid in Allianz Arena, 3-0 to Barça... in all GREAT games he suffers a lot of goals. To keep a clean sheet against Watford is easy. This lack of balance in the team does not give solid ground for winning titles.

Conte inherited a team that won the league the season before last, if not for Mourinho almost relegating them, they would have been up there last season. Remember their form as soon as they sacked him? He's a good manager, but let's not be under any illusion that he's a complete miracle worker. I will give him credit for Moses, though he has always been good.
