      Not buying it J PL. Robby Savage isn´t World Class. Has never been and his punditry sucks. Stopping players on a one-off doesn´t elevate you to World-Class. You have to be putting that kind of performance consistently to be consider World Class. Robby Savage was average. Hard working, no-nonsense kinda guy, but average. He is desperately trying to fit in with the likes of Owen, Wrighty and McManaman. If he thinks he is World Class, he is out of touch with reality.

BUT he is saying that there were days where he could produce a 'world class' level performance against a high level opponent where he might have looked like one of the best DMFs in the world. Which is sort of true for most players as anyone can have a day or two where they're completely unplayable. But you have to do it consistently to be considered a 'world class' player over the length of your career.

    I can see Robbie's point. He's not saying he was a world class player. And to the others saying 'you stopped a player' .... well yeah, that was his job during that match. Midfielders like Vieira, Roy Keane etc, their job was to be a defensive midfielder, it wasnt to score or create goals, even Didi Hamann for Liverpool, his job was to take players out of the game and he did it brilliantly.

Like Phil Neville against arsenal, he made Vieira look like nobody but that doesn't mean he's better than Vieira but on that day he played like a worldclass midfielder. Three pundits who were attacking players WOULD come out with a response like that, but I think Robbie Savage has a point. Lots of players can be world class for one or two games in their career (being world class consistently is the key) and you can also have world class defenders and defensive midfielders. These players don’t ‘just stop’ people, there is an art and a skill to being good at that.

    • @japphan
      @japphan Před 7 lety +12

      They were laughing because they didn't understand what he was trying to say. He makes a silly claim as part of his argument.
      His argument is basically: "If consistency is not a part of the term "world class",I would be world class."
      Everyone agrees that Savage never was, even though he had games where it would be hard to justify swapping him out for any other defensive player.
      He makes the argument in the other order, thus putting the silly claim first, at which the others laugh instead of letting him finish.
      So, the clip shows people laughing at a man making a valid point, to which they all agree.
