Rio makes a point of when things become personal and it was highlighted that Terry's comments where just that. Yet Terry said he felt he had been dug out out a few times which shows he felt that things said had been personal too. Whether or not that was Savages intention, the comment by Terry reflects that Savage had indeed hurt Terry on an emotional level.

Robbie Savage is right; everyone is entitled to an opinion, regardless of their ability. John Terry recently described Jose Mourinho as "the very best I have ever worked with", yet Mourinho hardly had a glittering career as a footballer. So by Terry's logic surely he would ignore any feedback Mourinho ever game him as immaterial? Alan Shearer, one of the greatest players the UK has ever produced, had one short stint as manager which ended in relegation. Thierry Henry had an incredible career in which he achieved a lot, but has been slated as a pundit for his lack of insight. My point is one's ability as a footballer does not have a defining influence on the validity of their opinion on the game, nor should it. The laughter from the journalists in the room, most of them failed footballers themselves, is quite bizarre when you consider Terry is basically saying he doesn't respect their opinion either.

    • @devilrobbie25

Exactly. Journo's will always do that though, fake laughing at managers and players bad jokes then go and slate them in their paper 30 mins later. Like a bunch of old women.

Not a direct comparison to Savage but plenty of people who go on to become top managers and coaches were not great footballers, played at a mediocre level, not in a top league etc or retired early due to injury / not making it. Terry would listen to his gaffer and respect their opinion regardless of their playing career, trophies or achievements I guess! (His old boss Mourinho played less than 100 professional matches)

I don't think JT is saying that savage can't give an opinion. He can, only JT won't listen to him, and I think he is right to say so. Players can't listen to every opinion made about them, they should only take in their managers and people they trust.
