I feel like Kallen viewed Zero as this perfect figure that could do no wrong. Not just a human, but an ideal that represented what she was fighting for. But once Suzaku unmasked Zero as Lelouch, that illusion was broken. This is probably why she criticised Lelouch in season 2 more than she critiqued Zero in Season 1, she's recognizing him as a real person with flaws. Of course, this also leads to her having a more personal friendship with Lelouch sense she gets to talk to him when he's not using behind the mask of Zero, or pretending to be a lazy kid while at school.
I feel like part of why Kallen falls in love with Lelouch is her loyalty to Zero sort of "merging" with the more "human" connection that she develops with Lelouch in season 2. She remains equally dedicated but for a more emotionally driven reason.

@@Elly3981 Your right. Kallen's finding out that Lelouch's complacency towards Brittania that he expressed as a student was just an act, so she's probably wondering just how much of his personality is a mask, which makes it difficult to determine how she truly feels about him (romance or otherwise).
I feel like she's initially in "denial", telling Lelouch that she's only loyal to Zero in an effort to separate them and rebuild the illusion, but by then it's too little too late. Suzaku broke the mask in front of her own eyes.

I really love the character development surrounding the Lelouch/Kallen pairing. Zero was an illusion that Lelouch created to represent his ideals in a personified form. Seeing Kallen going from her dedication to the symbol like Lelouch was planning, to growing to appreciate the real person behind the mask was debatably my favorite character dynamic from the show.

She loved both Lelouch and Zero. Or, to be more precise, she came to see the two of them as one and the same, because they were. This was her struggle throughout a good portion of Season 2, but she eventually came to recognize them as the same person. Technically, she never knew "Lelouch vi Britannia" until after she learned that he was Zero, and that was Lelouch's real self, but then learned more of his real past from Nunnully. It's "Lelouch Lamperouge", the spoiled, lazy, narcissistic, playboy that she didn't care for, but that was a false persona he put out to hide his "real" self. And, quit frankly, that's who Shirley was in love with; she never came to know the "real" Lelouch, despite learning his secret identity. And unlike with C.C., who was able to get into Lelouch's head and learn about him that way, Kallen's relationship and understanding of him developed naturally, which ranks it above his relationship with C.C. and make it more genuine and sincere. Lelouch also opens up to and trusts Kallen more than anyone else y choice whereas with C.C. he didn't really have a choice since she got into his head and they were bound by their contract, so she came to know him by default by discovering everything about him that way, but not even she understood him to the extent that Kallen did.

I wouldnt want lelouch to be romantically involved with anyone, but if I had to choose, I would always choose Kallen. Shirley is too innocent and C.C is too wicked, so Kallen is imp the closest fit for lelouch, although its true that it would be out of character for lelouch to love anyone romantically.
Edit: Scratch that, Kallen wouldn't be "a better fit", but she would definitely be the best choice for Lelouch's sanity and well being, considering how cc is so far removed from humanity, and shirley is completely powerless to do anything, but Kallen cares for Lelouch, looks up to Lelouch, and still maintains her emotions.

    • @heavydonkeykong5190
      @heavydonkeykong5190 Před 3 lety +12

She was always my preferred shipping for him, but admittedly, part of that could be that she is my second favorite character behind Lelouch.
But even apart from that, I just love the complexity of their comrade relationship and dynamic and how Kallen initially represents everyone who idolizes Zero, but then gets to know the person behind the illusion.
Sadly, I do agree that romance isn't the most likely outcome for Lelouch. He loves multiple people in very different ways, whether it be intimate relationships or surrogate brothers like with Suzaku, and of course his love for Nunnaly. But as the ending very clearly shows, he would rather sacrifice his own life to build a world for the people that he cares about to live in, rather than actually be with those people himself. Nunnaly is his reason to be alive, and he even leaves her behind in his death.
Lelouch values belief over love. So instead of prioritizing being with his loved ones, he instead puts those feelings aside for the sake of his goals, which he carries out for his loved ones' sake.

I think it would be better to interpret the Refrain scene from how it translates from Japanese if you watch it in a sub. I remember in the sub Kallen says, “Can’t you think of another way to get her back?” in which ‘her’ would refer to Nunnally since this is the episode after Lelouch fails to capture Nunnally. This line translated this way also makes more sense from earlier in the episode when Kallen tries to call Lelouch after watching Nunnally’s announcement of the new SAZ of Japan. Some scenes translated like this sometimes makes me not trust how the Dub is translated if it doesn’t make that much sense. In the Dub, Kallen says, “ Can’t you think of another way to get it back?” It’s weird because she would be referring Nunnally as ‘it’ since she’s trying to encourage him to keeping going after failing the last mission and especially since he was about to take Refrain. I have other examples I could think of but this one stands out to me.

The Resurrection movie might not be canon to the timeline, but unlike C.C and Shirley; Kallen relationship and her knowledge of Lelouch is pretty much the same as the main series. She broke down when she met Lelouch and refuses to call Suzaku "Zero" because at that point, she stopped seeing Zero as a symbol, instead she sees it as another alias for Lelouch. So it's pretty clear that she loves Lelouch, and not Zero.

Why do people always say C2 instead of C.C.

Because the show says it that way

You're right but, I watched the subbed version, and it was C.C. maybe they just wanted to abreviate it or something.

In my opinion, kallen might mistake her respects for zero as a love. What she love is Zero’s ability to make her desire become true not the person. She ready to sacrifice her life for zero is more like because with zero’s ability her dream will become true not because she love him.

Personally, I believe that Kallen was more in love with Zero, the brilliant and charismatic revolutionist, her ideal version of Lelouch. If she had not known that he and Zero were the same person, Kallen might not even have taken interest in Lelouch because she didn't even like him all that much before she found who he really was. She also placed Zero on a pedestal and revered him so much as a messiah that she forgot that he was also human who made mistakes, had flaws, and short-comings like everyone else. Such a persona would have been difficult to keep up indefinitely so Lelouch would have ended up disappointing Kallen in the long run if they did get seriously involved.

I would never forgive kallen for betraying lelouch just because she wanted to feel important.
Wasn't she the one who told lelouch to use them as he liked? To forget about nunnally and to become zero and command them as pawns.
But then she betrays lelouch at his lowest for doing the thing she told him to do.
Personally I find her a hypocrite and a attention hungry pawn
