  • Around a month ago my wonderful wife took on her toughest challenge to date by running and completing her first 100km foot race, the Salomon Serpent Trail 100k. To say I am very proud is a massive understatement and we had lots of positive feedback from our amazing viewers. Now Liga isn't a big fan of being in front of a camera but I thought it would be great to get her to come on the channel and talk about her experiences taking on the 100k distance for the first time.
    Really hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

    I'm so very proud with Līga's achievement. I've never loved running so much that even 2 km run is a challange for me. Seeing someone I can relate to finish 100 km race looks insane. You inspire me Līga.

    Really good film Loyd and congrats to Liga. So much of what she said rings true for a lot of us.
    I think dealing with stuff as it happens is absolutely key. The only thing I would add is that whilst really long runs aren’t vital for finishing, they can be useful to see what your stomach can handle over extended time.
    I come from a cycle racing and then IM background. I’m the type that always needs races or events to aim for, it’s my ‘carrot’ so I totally get Liga’s comment.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Ian, really glad you enjoyed the video. I totally agree long runs are beneficial in so many ways but I was just highlighting that you don't have to be doing mega mileage to take on some of these distances. To be fair nutrition is all on the day anyway, you can practice, practice and practice and then it can still goe wrong on the day! 😂
      Thanks for watching and supporting the channel Ian 🙏

      @Run4Adventure  Před 2 lety

      Glad you enjoyed the video Paul. Nutrition is so personal when you are running a long way. Some people can keep eating sweet things and some need to mix it up a bit with some savory items later on. It really comes down to practice and finding out what works best for you 👍

    Ooh I know that tiny little village, walked right through it after discovering that lovely little trail, I'd love to run it, but probably end up twisting my ankle knowing my luck.
    How long does it stretch, did they open it up, I remember further up it was closed?
    Good to see Liga, definitely needs to be in more videos.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 2 lety +1

      Unfortunately the trail is still closed off because the river Bank has collapsed Darren. When it is fully open you can run all the way from Hayle to Marizion. It's about 13 miles I think 👍

      @@Run4Adventure Oh really wow, so a full marathon really, that would make for an awesome day out.
      I can only run the camel trail so many times, as it's a half marathon really, unless I go down to Padstein that is, might get closer to a marathon then.
      Such a shame is still closed, I only discovered it last year, right when they closed it. I really do hope they either fix or reroute it.
      Always glad to comment, you're both such lovely people.
      And you can tell Liga that she's inspired me to event for the first time in years, I'll be popping my cherry with the Bideford half next year.

    The Serpent Trail 100k was my first ultra, sounds like it was easier when I did it though, no mud for me. I realised at the NDW100 that I should have used the poles to stabilise myself in the mud but far too late :p. Well done Liga, I'm also a big fan of the races!

      That's awesome Luke, it's a great first 100k but Liga did have some very tricky conditions on the day. I'd always recommend carrying poles for 100 miles just incase, you never know when they might come in handy! Did you manage to finish the NDW100? 🤔

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was wearing my trusty Salomon kit - S/Lab Sense Ultra 5 Set running pack and my favourite skort - both very old but still going strong and I've never had issues with them. I was wearing Saucony Peregrine 10, I had Xodus 11 in my drop bag in case I thought I needed more cushioning in the second half of the race but I didnt feel like I needed to change my shoes. I had the Ciele/Run4Adventure cap which is very comfy and Stance socks. Basically I wear anything Loyd recommends and it seems to work 😁

    Never run an ultra - but love long runs in the mountains and forests. But I'm wondering: Where do you apply the vaseline / body glide? All over? Inner thighs? Between the cheeks? I've only used bodyglide for triathlons, and that's for getting the wetsuit off faster, and prevent rub / chafing in the neck...

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm sure you can work out where you apply the vaseline Torkil, so I won't go into to much detail 😉
      I'd say apply it where ever you think you might get any chaffing. I used to use body Glide when I was competing in triathlon but I found it didn't always stop the rubbing, especially around the neck! 😲

      @@Run4Adventure Thanks for the reply and another inspiring video! (But as a novice, I would appreciate more detail: apply liberally or spread thinly? I guess I’ll have some googling to do - might be interesting results..🙈)

    • @ligapurvis
      @ligapurvis Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, apply anywhere you think you might need it. For me it's pretty much everywhere 😁 Underarms, shoulders (in case running pack rubs), underneath sports bra so it doesn't rub), I guess men apply it on their nipples (although Loyd cuts out "sexy" circles from RockTape 🤣), pretty much anywhere underneath shorts area and I should have covered lower back this time. I didnt feel any chafing whilst running but it was very sore afterwards, especially in the shower. Is this detailed enough? 😁

    • @SuperTorkil
      @SuperTorkil Před 3 lety

      @@ligapurvis Thanks! I cut out the middle cotton part of a regular bandaid, and just use the two ends to cover my nipples. I find tape so much more painful to peel off! I’ll have to try the vaseline treatment on a hot day - I would imagine it mixes badly with sweat, but I guess I’m wrong since it such a popular way of preventing chafing!
      Congrats on the 100k, and good luck on Transvulcanica!
