    Another great video Lloyd. My first 100k was supposed to be on 16th May, but it was (un) fortunately cancelled. Tbh, I wouldn't have been properly prepared for it. Great advice on being a smart runner, which I'm trying to be this year after two years of injuries. So now I have one year to properly prepare for that mountainous 100k. Keep the good work mate!

    About a year ago I was 279 pounds and I decided to sign up for a 50K about 4 months out. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done and i got last place but i finished. Now a year later I’m attempting my first 50 mile race in March in Moab, Utah weighing in at 215 today. I’m nervous as there is 7K of elevation gain and the cutoff is 14 hours. This video helped me work through some of the problems I anticipate on the run and calm my nerves. Thanks for taking the time to do this! Next year I’m gunning for the buckle.
    Cheers!

    Well did my ultra yesterday and it's a learning experience.
    Grab that gpx file the day before, they always update the bleeding thing, due to access rights and other things changing. Ended up doing over 40 instead of 37 miles.
    Food needs to be on point, I was close but towards the end my guts did go inside out.
    Eat and walk on the tough uphills, run everywhere else and pace yourself.
    Padded shoes!!! Yes my Altra mont blancs were brilliant, but towards the last few miles i was aching for more cushion.
    My ankle gave out, and had to walk most of the last 10k, repeated going through moorland took it's toll.
    Which was a crying shame, as held second for a good while until then, still made 20th so not bad for my first.
    Had a lot of fun doing it for sure, I'll certainly be repeating it.

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 2 lety

      It's a tricky route navigation wise Darren, easy to get lost! 👍
      Well done for getting your first Ultra finished, it's a good feeling. Unfortunately your feet are always going to hurt after running that kind of distance and no amount of cushioning is going to stop that, it's part of the fun 😊
      Well done again, onwards and upwards, thanks for watching 🙏

    Awesome Video! I already ran a few 50-60ks but I am preparing for 50 milers and 100ks. The one thing I am trying to figure out is how much I need to drop my pace from a 50k to a 50 miler...any advice?

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks Jonathan, I'm glad you liked it 👍
      It doesn't sound like that much of a step up from 50k to 50miles but it definitely feels like it when you run it 😊 obviously there's things to take into consideration, what type of terrain the route is in your 50 miler compared to the 50k's you've run? Personally for me if the route are similar terrain I'd probably drop my pace by around 30sec-45sec per mile. Also a lot of it depends on how you're feeling on the day, the weather, how your trainings gone etc. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel and don't forget to subscribe to our channel to keep up to date with future content 🎥🙏

    "Back2back" sounds like a great idea. Besides that, what should be the total weekly minimum volume and the longest minimum long run distance?

    • @Run4Adventure
      @Run4Adventure  Před 4 lety +3

      It's a great way to train for long distance 👍
      It's hard to say because weekly milage is very personal. I think you could run 100k off 35-40 miles a week but I'd personally run a few more, I'd try and average around 45-50 miles a week depending on how you are felling. I might also do a couple of longer weeks in my training block of around 60-70 miles but only a couple. Obviously a lot comes down to weather you're racing the distance or you just want to make it to the finish line? 😊
      As far as longest run, I don't think you really have to go any longer than marathon distance and I rarely do, only really if I've worked a 30,40ish mile ultra into my training. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

    Very helpful tips as I just signed up an ultra in Turkey, the 2020 Salomon Cappadocia Ultra Trail - 119km with an elevation of about 3700m. Aim is to finish either to crawl or walk and earn 5 ITRA points. I've done two 50k's with one lucky podium finished with just 2000m elevation. Is it doable to jump to 100k's. Currently I'm training at an average of 100km weekly.

    This is what I have coming up:
    Half Marathon, 6th September. (target 1.40)
    15 mile cliff run, 27th September.
    Road Marathon, 25 October. (Target 3.45)
    50k cliff ultra, 29 November.
    When would you recommend I target a 100k race? Maybe March or April next year?

      Hi Zebedee
      Sounds like you're going to be busy!
      March and April should be OK for the 100k 👍
      Will all the other distances be your first time at these distances? If that's the case don't forget it's a big step up from 50k to 100k! 😊

      @@Run4Adventure I did four half marathon training runs back in April with the fastest at 1.48 which is the same time as my first ever HM aged 18 in 1990. I also managed a 20 mile (hilly) road run in just under 3 hours back in March. The 15 miler I did last year in 3.11, I'm much fitter 12 months later. Last weekend I did a 10 mile cliff run in 1.35 while last year I did the same run in 1.56. It's my first ever marathon but bizarrely I did attempt the 50k ultra on the cliffs last year and made it to 40k feeling strong but my left knee was sore so I stopped before I injured myself. I'm a 48 year old male and am returning to running after a break of 16 years. I walk the dogs twice a day, commute 10k to work each way most days by bicycle, have been open water swimming weekly and running 3 times a week (13 miles average- including two 5 mile runs and one hills and sprints 3 mile session). Recent PBs: for 1 mile is 6.04 (last week) 5k is 21.57 (2 weeks ago), 10k is 46.30 (I did 47 minutes 3 weeks ago because I went out too quick) and 10 miles is 1.18.47 (March).

      Sounds great but running long distances is very different as you found out when you ran the 50k 😔
      I would maybe try and work on mobility and strength a bit as well. Being strong and flexible will really help you running long distances 😊
      I know a lot of runners who have tried to fast track there way to running longer distances and it can lead to problems. I would always recommend building up slowly to build strength and to learn how to mange your body and nutrition 😊
      I personally think it would be good to run several Marathons before you take on 100k 👍

      @@Run4Adventure thanks for the advice. Makes perfect sense to me. I'll try to get more thsn one 50k/ marathon under the belt before I step up to the 100k distance. I've seen some events where you can do two 50k runs on consecutive days which sounds appealing to me.

      Well done for digging in and getting to that finish! 💪
      Unfortunately our stomachs is always the weak link when running distance. It takes time to work out what's best for you when it comes to nutrition but you'll get there eventually 😊
      Thanks for watching and onwards and upwards 🙏
